I found a 4th way if you leave coffee beans in a mason jar of sugar for like a month you can make coffee infused sugar if you use turbinado sugar for a sprinkling on top
Awesome sweet rolls. Not overly sweet and great espresso flavor. The only downside is I followed the recipe exactly and the milk qty is off. I believe 1 cup vs 2 cups is sufficient. I used 2 cups milk and had to add way more flour than should be needed. I will definitely be making these again but will use less milk than the recipe calls for and will start with 1 cup starting off and add more if needed! Thanks for another recipe! Merry Christmas to you and all of the people on this channel!
Yep I had the same experience. I think there’s a typo on the recipe. In the video here it looks like only 1 cup of milk is used. I just tried it today, and while it came out okay I also ended up needing far more flour to reach the desired consistency. Hopefully Chef John notices! Also, being in Florida, the butter in the filling never solidified into the desired paste consistency.. so I had to place it in the fridge 😅
This recipe looks great. Two other recipes you might like are James Hoffman's "A Coffee Cake (That Tastes of Coffee)" and the rich "Goya Recipes - Argentinian Chocotorta" (or another version).
Interesting. Surprised that you didn't add and cinnamon but I know you weren't making a cinnamon roll, but it seems to beg for it. Love you channel, we are all so lucky to have you helping all of would be chefs easily make really cool and different things. Have a great Holiday and thank you.
I really like chef John’s delivery, not to mention his scrumptious recipes. I’ll be making these tomorrow, and I agree about NO cinnamon. You don’t need to improve on strong coffee. Thanks, from the north of England.
Hmm! I believe a new tradition for Christmas morning is about to be launched - Mimosas and Triple Coffee Sweet Rolls. Thank you for another wonderful recipe 🇨🇦
There's likely a typo on your website recipe, as 2 cups of milk to 4 cups of flour makes for a thick pancake like mix. I ended up using over 2 cups more flour before it started resembling a dough. Most other recipies have a nearer to 3:1 ratio of dry to wet.
me too!! I thought I did it wrong in the first time somehow so I threw away everything and started the 2nd round which turned out the same 😢 so I ended up adding two more cups of flour...
I've been a follower since your grilled cheese sandwich video. That fork don't lie was real revolutionary stuff back in the day. Admittedly, I've stopped religiously watching for quite a bit. It's the holidays soon and I don't feel the greatest. Sitting on the couch, on a rainy night, I chanced upon your video again. Your voice has aged a lil. A little more raspy. But your enthusiasm hasn't. You no longer end sentences on a high of a note as before, but your zeal hasn't dropped. You missed out on cayenne this time round, but, still, nailed every single dry punchline. I nvr thought a RUclips video mainly staring a pair of hairy arms would stir up so much. Thank you for being a literal, soothing, calming voice in my years growing up. Happy holidays Chef John. Ps. Have you posted part 2 of that turkey video yet???
Give it a try! Yeast breads are actually pretty forgiving and delicious even if 5hey aren’t perfect. Also, Chef John’s recipes are carefully crafted & explained.
G’day from Australia. These look amazing and could taste the coffee from here! Could you also please give us a tutorial for cinnamon rolls? Happy Christmas Chef John 🎉
Those look sooooo yummy. I do have to say that in all the many cooking videos I have watched you are the first(I think) person to use the rolling pin with handles. Most everyone uses one with no handles. Seems more difficult to me.
I so enjoyed watching this, but Chef John, admonishing at the end that if you don't like coffee, then you shouldn't eat them, was a good message for me. I can't stand coffee, but it's so fun to watch Chef John.
And that is why Chef John is the best YT chef. He not only very often suggests alternatives for how you might want to make something, but even considered the fact not everyone likes what he likes.
These look amazing!! also, what is the elastic bag you use to cover the bowls to proof the dough? It looks so much better and reusable than plastic wrap.
I owned a coffee shop, most folks didn't know about origin coffees, (IE: Columbia, Ethiopia, Sumatra, Kona, The only American coffee btw). I think some customers believed there was a French Vanilla coffee bean tree perhaps somewhere in Le Midi France maybe. IDK Shamefully I made a lot of money off flavored coffee. Most folks are also unaware that the true flavor in any coffee comes from the roast. Star Bucks trendy burnt garbage ruined coffee. It's easy to burn a bean. It's a skill to roast light, or medium roast. It's basically lower slower roasting, which is neither profitable or efficient. The best breakfast blends are mostly light roast, (Highly caffeinated) with a peppering of dark, usually Columbian. Dark roast is actually lower in caffeine than light roast. Also more antioxidance are present in lighter roast than in the char of dark roast. Italians perfected the marriage of dark coffees & creams using steam exhaust from the boiler of the espresso machine to create the magnificent libation known as the Latte'. So, I totally understand your recoil, when you tried a pumpkin spiced latte'
A bit of cardamom might go well in these; cardamom and coffee is a classic combination popular in the middle east, plus you'd be going somewhere in the direction of swedish Kardemummabullar
Hey Chef John I love all the recipe videos, but would you ever consider making some videos focusing on techniques to apply to cooking in general (how to marinade, how to season, etc) or how to combine ingredients you might find in a typical cabinet into functional meals, without "buying for the recipe"
That sounds SO yummy😋. Only thing is that it seems (by appearance) that there isn’t enough filling (based on the amount seen with a cinnamon roll). I’m going to double it. More is better 😍
I see that you have the CVS shower caps to use as a reusable covering. The advantage is that they are clear, the disadvantage is that the elastic is flimsy and breaks down with washing.
I am one of those people who isn't fond of coffee, and my wife absolutely hates it. I am wondering if it would work to swap the coffee for cocoa powder (besides the bit already in the filling):?
Hello Chef John, is there a version without instant coffee ? I dont have and dont want to buy. Could I just add ground coffee to hot milk and filter to remove the grain ? but don't know how I could do for the filling.
@FoodWishes hey Chef John! Happy holidays and thanks for the lessons...here's a suggestion...sprinkle chocolate covered coffee beans on top for your quad!! Bahaha
Streusel topping with ground chocolate covered coffee beans? Or, I guess, ground coffee with some cocoa/chocolate streusel with ground coffee would probably do the same thing.
Hi Chef John. My favorite chef of all times.
Mine too. I didn't find him until a month ago. I can learn to make a new recipe and laugh all at the same time!
For sure.
Mine too! I’ve been watching his videos for many years.
Anne Burrell deserves a nod.
Join his membership, we have a lot of fun on Wed. and Sat. It’s a small fun group!
I found a 4th way if you leave coffee beans in a mason jar of sugar for like a month you can make coffee infused sugar if you use turbinado sugar for a sprinkling on top
They also make coffee flavored "chips" that could either be added to the filling or sprinkled on top.

Yep, just tried making this and I believe I probably have about twice as much dough as I need - two batches it is then.
My boyfriend loves coffee. Definitely making these soon. Thank you Chef!!
Engagement ring soon to follow! 😅
You are a treasure
This recipe looks great. Two other recipes you might like are James Hoffman's "A Coffee Cake (That Tastes of Coffee)" and the rich "Goya Recipes - Argentinian Chocotorta" (or another version).
I’m surprised you didn’t eat them with a cup of coffee! OMG I can’t wait to try these!

MAYBE with cardamom. That's how I drink my morning coffee.
I’ve been using dental floss for years to cut my cinnamon rolls. Great technique! Gonna have to try this one, John!
Those look delicious 😋😋👍
Chef John knows the way straight to my heart. I will most definitely be making these this weekend!
I'm thinking some ground pecans or walnuts would be pretty good in the filling too.
To a confirmed coffee addict like myself, this is Nirvana! Thank you sir, and Merry Christmas! 🎅🎅
Love, love, love those! 💖 The world needs more delicious coffee sweets 👍🤩🥰
Hmm! I believe a new tradition for Christmas morning is about to be launched - Mimosas and Triple Coffee Sweet Rolls. Thank you for another wonderful recipe 🇨🇦
Love your recipes. They always motivate me to make new things.
I love Chef John videos and have made a number of his delicious recipes. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to him and all his viewers!
This looks great!
OH MY GOODNESS, GRACIOUS! That looks heavenly but I bet, it tastes sinfully delicious!
New tshirt! “Dead yeast don’t dance”, we need it now!
Miam! Absolutely ravishing! And what I love as well is that you are using a reusable plastic wrap to proof your dough!
Made it today, reduced the sugar to 1/2 cup, my family loves it😊

Very tasty looking! Thanks for sharing the recipe.
They look delightful and tasty. Thanks John, and Happy Christmas 🎄❤️👍
The quadruple coffee is the capuchino that I would like to eat this with. 😁
I'm not good at reading and I thought you meant the addition of a monkey.
your videos make me very happy chef john 🥰
Love seeing that glaze spurt onto those buns. Nice and thick glaze which I assume is very rich and loaded with great flavour
Your show is always so relaxing
Now, I know what I am gonna bake on christmas day morning…❤
Those look fantastic. You make it look so easy, even though I know its not. Thanks.
Give it a try! Yeast breads are actually pretty forgiving and delicious even if 5hey aren’t perfect. Also, Chef John’s recipes are carefully crafted & explained.
Pumpkin Spice Latte Trauma, I experienced that my self years ago. Great vid and recipe as usual John Thanks for all you do!
Perfect as always!
this is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen; thank you!
G’day from Australia. These look amazing and could taste the coffee from here! Could you also please give us a tutorial for cinnamon rolls? Happy Christmas Chef John 🎉
+1 to this, also from Australia!
Rolling out block of puff pastry tip works with dough, too... roll out 4 corners first and it will help greatly to keep straight lines on all sides.
Happy holidays. Thank you for sharing
Those look sooooo yummy.

Those look incredible. I’ve an idea to take one, slice it in half or thirds, and make French toast out of it. Oh god, that could be too delicious
OOoooohhhhhh I was trying to decide what sweet bread recipe I was going to try for Christmas morning, and I think this might be the one!
These look great ingredients, Chef John.

I think I'm going to try these for Christmas gift goodies 🎄🎁💕

These look amazingly delicious. Thank you Chef John for another great video!
"If I'm curt with you, it's because time is a factor."
And to prove it... A little bakers humor.
I love coffee. These look so tasty.

These look fabulous. Merry Christmas to you and yours!🎄🎅🎁❤️
Thank you for including a temperature!
Good morning Chef John from Sacramento CA
These look amazing!! also, what is the elastic bag you use to cover the bowls to proof the dough? It looks so much better and reusable than plastic wrap.
I know there are culinary ones but simple plastic shower caps are cheaper in price
Nice Reno 911 reference in the rhyme 😂
Chef John was a garrote assassin in a past life 😉🫢🫣
A -past- life? You saw how well he cut those rolls.
OMG! Those look fantastic! 😋

Now that looks fantastic, thanks!
This looks friggen delicious.
Seems delious and yummy
Amazing as always chef John 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Oh wow! I gotta try these 👍🏼
Looks so good
Happy New Year 😁
I'm so excited to try!!
Served next to a phat line of expresso 😊
Espresso or “espresso”? 😉😂
0:14 The fourth way would be dunking them in your coffee. D'uh!

You can also use floss to cut the rolls. Eat the small ends raw…trust me soooo good.
I have a guitar string I use.
I. Love. This. Man❤
That sounds SO yummy😋. Only thing is that it seems (by appearance) that there isn’t enough filling (based on the amount seen with a cinnamon roll). I’m going to double it. More is better 😍
For those who use metric, the internal temperature is roughly 93C whereas the oven temperature is roughly 190C.
Disagree, I think cinnamon-type rolls photograph *way* better covered in icing! 😂😉 These look AMAZING!
I see that you have the CVS shower caps to use as a reusable covering. The advantage is that they are clear, the disadvantage is that the elastic is flimsy and breaks down with washing.
NO SHAME In The Crumb-Clean-Up Game!😋😂💖
This looks dangerously delicious

when I worked in a bakery we used to check for doneness by pressing the center of the roll, done sprung back, under stayed down.
Love that the Detroit pizza pan showed up 😂
Hello Chef John, is there a version without instant coffee ? I dont have and dont want to buy. Could I just add ground coffee to hot milk and filter to remove the grain ? but don't know how I could do for the filling.
Is it possible to make it without a stand mixer?
If you want to roll out dough in a rectangle: form a ball, cut it in diagonally and roll it out.
Mind you I’ve never made them before, but couldn’t you fit a fourth helping of coffee in if you did the Cinnabon Heavy Cream in the pan trick?
Looks so good. I no longer have an oven 😢
“Let me guess, someone stole your sweet roll?”

I had to find it!
awesome recipe chef , please show Arabic Areeka and Yemeni masoob recipe please
The Detroit pizza pan wears many hats
4. finely chopped chocolate covered espresso beans sprinkled artistically over top🙂
just sittin' here drooling...
Perfect with a nice cuppa tay.
@FoodWishes hey Chef John! Happy holidays and thanks for the lessons...here's a suggestion...sprinkle chocolate covered coffee beans on top for your quad!! Bahaha
The OG of the OGs
This might have to become a tradition... Maybe a Saturday morning tradition...
I gotta add cinnamon ❤
Streusel topping with ground chocolate covered coffee beans? Or, I guess, ground coffee with some cocoa/chocolate streusel with ground coffee would probably do the same thing.
Yum Yum
A coffee streusel could possibly have worked to get a fourth hit of coffee involved, though I'm not sure how well it'd work.
But, if you DO like coffee….wow!!
