Dont pay em no attention Mr. Martin. I've seen those fish you've caught off that deck. It served its purpose very well. You continue to inspire me to catch the next fish and you have been for 30 years! God bless you sir!
Roland still getting it done! Nice to see a fishing legend promoting inexpensive ways to get out there and enjoy the water. I love pulling up to the ramp in my 14 ft Jon boat with homemade everything, small outboard and bad camo paint job to see some poor soul in a $50-60k rig who can't figure out how to get it in the water, much less catch fish😏 Well done, sir.
ROLAND! Respect the homebrew from a veteran. If you're ever in Arizona, we have some MEAN bass down here on the Colorado River. Would love to show you the deal out here
Good job. I really like to watch when you punch through the heavy hydrilla with power everything. Pole, sinker, line. And yanking out big hidden bass underneath it all. Like the flippen and pitching king of the Delta. Big ol Dean.
I was on Okeechobee in March Roland we stayed at Lakeport lodge and every time we went out I was praying to see you but we never did lol I destroyed the bass and I am the new Mayan Cichlid king lol been watching you and Scott since 81 lots of good memories with you God bless the Martin family
I think you are a great role model. Your enthusiasm is clear and I like it that the emphasis is on fishing regardless of how you get on the water. Thank you Roland for setting the bar where it belongs. Your fan forever! Mike
Roland Martin! I wanted to thank you for your videos. Your energy, spirit and enthusiasm makes your videos OFF THE HOOK! I've watched your videos on senko fishing over and over and it's finally paying off. Topped by PB two days in a row. Bite was tough today, so I whipped out my blue sharpie and painted the tail of my green pumpkin 297 and they hammered it! It has completely changed my fishing life, considering all I could use was top water or rapalas before watching your content. I'm your biggest fan and will sing your praises to every young fisherman I meet. And if I ever enter a kayak trail tournament, you will be the first one I thank when I reach shore as the champion. (I'm dreaming now, but I also dreamed of catching fish on soft plastic for 30 years! And look at me now!)
Your the man Roland. My father in-law and I redid a 14' aluminum boat this past winter. Basically just the three wooden bench seats and the transom. Just at Lowes yesterday to pick up stuff for a deck. Since it's a V-hull, I'm putting the deck down on the bench seats to keep a lower center of gravity. I like that you reuse and recycle. Fish on!
Roland Martin they are not that many 71 year old men that has the energy like you and the only way you can get that type of energy is to go fishing every dayI've been watching all of your program for 58 year may God bless you and keep up the good work
Roland, you remind me of my uncle the way you did all that work. I spent much time with him as a young man and learned a lot. I was pleased to see you doing the job yourself.
You have helped me catch a fish or two over the years but never DIY casting deck. It’s perfect timing because my son is wanting to put one on my old bateau. Thanks!
Cool still seeing you plugging away after all these years. I got to meet you in about 1978 at Frank Fensoms Pro Bass Shop in Raytown, Missouri when I was 18. You and Frank were so gracious to my brother Paul and I.
Great video! I’m thinking you also taught Wood shop in your teaching days👍. I inherited my dads 1947 Alumacraft Ducker rowboat, great shape except for paint but we almost Always catch fish. I repainted last year with awesome camo job, but told my son, did it for us, the fish don’t care what your boat looks like😀. Thanks for all your great videos🎣 Good fishing and God Bless
Subscribed. I watched you and Jimmy Houston growing up and learned a lot and I have caught many fish throughout the years to include missing my state record twice by 6 oz. I pass on what I learned to my kids so I guess one could say that I passed on what I learned from you and of course some of my own knowledge picked up along the way as well... lol. Guess you have influenced more than one generation in this house and I am sure many others. Had no Idea you had a channel on youtube but I am glad that I found it. Keep it going. I can also say, viewers on here do like to know that you read their comments where it is a different venue than watching a TV show. It is a more personal theater, if you will.
Thats awesome. I know of a place this would be perfect for me. I see kayaks in this place all the time. We have an old Chevy Suburban i think would fit great. Thanks for sharing. this project.
Great video! My grandpa had a shop a lot like yours! He was a huge fan and I grew up watching you fish:) Keep up the good work! That was some solid information about building a front deck on your boat! Love it!
RUclips channels take time to grow and i hope yours one day equates to millions in viewers and $$$. Guys like you and bill dance filled my tv on the weekend growing up as a kid. I learned from you then and im still learning from you now. One of if not the best fisherman that ever lived imo.
I have the same 1542 and I love it , it dont have to look purdy ,it just has to work,,even an ugly boat will help in the quest for bass,,fish on teacher ,or should I say professor martin,,thank you for taking the time to pass on some great knowledge ,look forward to the next video,,
Hi Roland You may have seen these before Cam Cleats or Open V Cleats they may be faster, more convenient and provide adjustable depth for your anchor lines. You can search those names, they are not expensive. By the way you gained even a bit more respect after seeing the milling machine in your shop !! I enjoy your videos.
Should last many years and very functional and inexpensive rig!. Ya know I just plain ole enjoy Roland Martin, I got to sit in on a seminar he put on here once many years ago, Roland is a very nice man, and well he's a damn good fisherman too ... LoL not that I needed to say that... 👋😎🇨🇦 Hey from Ontario Canada Mr Martin!!
Hi Roland, this worked well for me,get a qt of enamel based paint and use a 2 inch brush ,I used two coats and it was totally waterproofed, love your vids, thanks
Good job on the boat Roland can’t wait to see you catch some big bass off your new deck been tearing them bass up on a green pumpkin caught one about 7 1:2 pounds
Getting ready for our spot in the Glades I see. You need a sturdy platform to be on to set the hook on those big girls down there. Fisherman carpenter you do it all.Hope to see you there Roland.
What I like about this video is now there was no $100,000 boats or none of these fancy gadgets that most people can't afford and it's nice and simple fix just to get out and get on the water most people forget where they came from I just find it very interesting how your a millionaire on a $1,500 boat thumbs up mr. Martin keep those awesome videos coming. This should be called a poor man's boat LMFAO
Ive been following you since the 80's when I first joined B.A.S.S. your one of the sports Greatest, Thank you for the new videos and tips , keep em coming Bass Wishes.
Good video Roland and im not sure if you will read this comment but i wanted to say thank you for taking the time to talk to me and Jimmy Houston at the Nashville Bass Pro fishing Tournament this past Friday it was nice to meet you god bless Robert Guzman
Mr. Martin, I love that 1542 you have! I'd like a 1448 but I'm not sure how well that will fit in the back of a 5' pickup bed. The 42 may be a better option for a truck.
I remember way back when Roland was the first bass fisherman to use an elevated platform in the front of a boat to help with sight fishing...It was an ice chest...Then he built one with legs that could be taken down, stored and set back up in minutes...Never underestimate this man's ability to think outside of the box...Tackle box that is...lol
Thumbs up ! Now I'm off to watch the boat your son crashed LOL. Edit: I did the same thing Scott did but not under a lot of power and did not do nearly as much damage. Only put a gouge in the front of the skeg out on a local lake " New Hogan " out here in the Motherload region.
Nice low $$$ set up. I'd drill pilot holes with an 1/8" drill bit rather than using screws to mark the holes through the old pattern. I'd put the seat base on after the finish, to avoid the overspray. I might even have spent $20 for a couple of yards of marine carpet. I actually thought it looked OK unfinished, once it weathered a bit. New deck should be stronger. For my fat butt I'd have another layer of wood under the seat mount area, perhaps a 12"x12" scrap of plywood. I like the way you've got the anchor system done, simple, cheap & effective. If I remember correctly you can't use a lead anchor in my state though. I'd like to see you try out a plastic Pelican or Twin troller boat in shallow water.
I wouldn't worry about what "everyone" else thinks about your old deck. Whatever works best for you is all you need. If "everyone" else could put the quality of bass in the boat that you do, then they can get their own RUclips channel and show us how it's done.
I read the story about how your parents were killed in a wreck with you in the car. Very sad deal, but they would have been so proud of you and how well you raised Scott!! 👍🎣
I personally would add a water seal by Thompson the clear nothing fancy. With Florida sun ☀️ might hold up better? So when it does rain 🌧 beads up no worries. I’d also add an electric bilge pump. For those big gully washes. The only thing that concerns me is lack of flotation if the boat 🚣♀️ fills up with rain 🌧 while fishing and the pump fails going to have a Titanic moment. I’d box 📦 in some spray in foam or something to keep you afloat in emergency. Gators 🐊 and rut rough don’t mix.
@@RolandMartinOutdoors You're doing a great job showing us how, but I think it would be exciting to watch someone catch their PB with you by their side.
Some grip paint might be good for your footing in case it rains. I'll bet they make it in green. My brother used grip paint on his boat and said it's great, no more busted and bloody shins
Mr. Martin I have these old Poes crank baits which are like new because I always get stuck fishing plastic worms.what kind of knot would you use to tie them on. Model Rc 1 Poes coffin lip. Thanks for any help.
How did you attach the support member on the under side of deck? Is it just screwed across the bottom edge of deck? Love your videos. Great fun information!
Dude this is easily no more than 2 hours worth of work... lol an impact gun (1'.25" exterior screws), skill saw and paint lol.... you can mount a cooler for your seat/live well. To save money and time.

When you're a Legend like Roland you don't need a nice boat to catch Monster Pig Bass.
I lived on Toledo Bend in the early 70's. Been seeing you promote bass fishing a long time. It's great to see you still helping people learn.
Its hot here in Florida. You did all that and you didn't even break a sweat.👍

Roland, you're the greatest. I hope to run into you on a lake sometime.

Good job Roland now lets go fishin love your video's and Scott's also I watch them all
Hey Roland.....love your videos!!! Would love to see another lure build...that was seriously cool!!!! Tight lines Champ
You should put some outdoor carpet on that deck to make it more quiet to really sneak up on some bass.
