Let God Guide You: From Weakness to Strength

  • A man struggled with a difficult weakness for 30 years.
Based on his own compelling true story, this person had a profound, spiritual realization and a breakthrough of understanding-that God always loves and values him and remains by his side, ready to help, even during repeated struggles.
Like this man, many of us surround ourselves with shame because we don’t believe we are good enough for God to help us. We might think we must somehow arrive to a certain level of “goodness” on own and stay there before God can step in and take us to higher ground. What’s more, if we continue to fall short, we believe we are hopelessly broken, condemned, and spiritually left behind.
But in truth, as we seek and surrender ourselves to God, whatever our starting point happens to be, God will always be ready to direct us toward the very best version of ourselves. And God will do it with patience and from our own personal place of need. God’s grace and blessings do not depend on flawlessness.

For years ever since I was 11 I struggled with a porn addiction. And I never told anyone. At first I didn't know what it was, but as I grew older I understood. And I knew it was bad I just don't know why I never told anyone. Maybe because I was embarrassed, or maybe because I knew it was bad. Eventually I tried to stop on my own, many times but the addiction and weakness was there like I would try to stop but it never worked. Ended up finally feeling terrible for myself and repenting of my sins. Through the help of others I was able to see God's light. And through God's grace and mercy I have been able to find a happier life for myself, I may not be perfect, nor am I living the dream life everyone desires. I am a regular human being, but I am also a daughter of God. Once we find better things to live for it's when things truly change for us. And my gosh did this video truly help and lift. I have now been clean for 1 year now, I know it's not much, but for me it is a huge accomplishment. God doesn't want us to commit sin and that's why he gives us many opportunities to stop and to try again. He loves our efforts and wants to help us. God bless you

I also was exposed to pornography at 11. The journey that started then has been both miserable and enlightening for me for the next 39 years...to this day. I still find it so hard to lose the images from my mind, and drop the HABIT of objectifying members of both sexes. Without God and repentance, I would truly be in a dark hopeless place today. It does my heart much good to know there are others and I am not alone amongst my fellow men AND women. I struggle to remember to lean on God and not rely only on my own knowledge and effort to overcome this hand I have been dealt. Depression still gets ahold of me these days...I struggle...then I rebound...then I struggle again. I've been free of new images in my mind for 8 months now since accepting my new calling. The old ones from 39 years of exposure will never go away, though.

Yes, pornography is everywhere. Now days, I try to keep away from those things. Even if it is out of my control ( like an advertisement) I look away and get out of the page I'm on.
The images may never go away and neither do temptations, but at least we have God to help us. I am so glad we're both doing better..and I'm glad to know I'm also not alone on this journey! Thanks for sharing!

I've commented before on videos, but this is ME, except I was exposed years earlier and went longer before I finally, finally, finally let Him take over. I'm 6 years clean this month. I should say, rather, He has guided and strengthened me so that I have maintained the cleansing His incomprehensible Atonement gave me. Decades of doubt, struggle, and self-loathing, and addiction gone. If anyone reading this thinks, 'Yeah, sure, for you, but not for me', know these two things: 1. I spent most of my life thinking the same thing. 2. I was wrong.
We're all in this together, and He loves us.

@@davericard2020 I don't understand your question. But yes, we come closer to God by following the example of His Son, Jesus Christ. So, thoughtful reading of the scriptures will prompt us about things in our own lives that we need to work on, get rid of or add to our daily lives. As you gradually start to follow Christ you'll be able to look back and see how things get better and more hopeful.

I asked the Lord for help and asked and asked, finally I decided to hold myself accountable … I found a notebook, and wrote my addiction and my goal to overcome the addiction, then at the end of every day I wrote whether I had a successful day or if I didn’t have a successful day. I prayed for strength, Then I tucked away the notebook until the end of the next day. I can testify to everyone out there that I eventually overcame the addiction and when I felt I could move on I destroyed the note book. My notebook(s) were my own, I never shared my notebooks with anyone except my Heavenly Father. I know my Heavenly Father inspired me to hold myself accountable and I am thankful for it.

In my journey with addiction I have discovered that the greatest miracle of all is that I can have a relationship with God. The miracle of Christ is that I can be a disciple no matter how sinful I am. God gives weakness that men may be humble. Humility is the dirt that the seed of faith is planted in. To me, humility is recognizing just how broken I am. If I don't recognize how I'm broken, there is nothing for Christ to fix.
I have found that as I've drawn closer to God, regardless of my frequency of relapse, the focus on the addiction decreases and my life fills with more positive things. Even if I wasn't an addict, there is always something that I'm doing that's separating me from God. As long as I'm aware of that, I can humbly take a step forward with Him each day.

Perfectly said. 30 years ago my mission president told me to treat life less like a sprint and more like my cross country races: at a continual, enduring, pace. Yes we slip trip and even fall when running but we get up and keep going till the end.

Just recently finished FSY yesterday. When I got home, I was back in the same stressful environment I always wanted to get away from. During FSY, it was so spiritual, inspiring, encouraging, and just overall positive thoughts and feelings. There, I was always with my friends who were very spiritually inspiring. But once I got back home, I was all alone again. Lots of missed school work quickly greeted me, a ton of chores and family responsibilities were brought back to my mind, along with the internet. I wanted to take a break from all this...stress. And that was what I often did before going to FSY. So, I was tempted again. I nearly gave in to it, and I was trying my best not to as I just scrolled through youtube. But then I found this.
I thought it was just a random inspiring talk about the church or from a prophet, but the Lord does work in very mysterious ways.
I love the Lord, and I know He loves me, too. He knows what I'm going through, and that's why he put that video on my yt feed. I just had to take the next step and click. I just hope I don't let him down so much from now on.

These words were meant for me and so many others that are trying to battle this plague. For most of us, it is a weakness that we are trying to make stronger but it is so hard. I love everything this video teaches. Thankfully, Heavenly Father judges us on the intent of our hearts. I am learning to not live in the all-or-nothing paradigm. I may keep falling but one day I will get up and I will stay up. Persistence is the key and Jesus Christ is our advocate and partner in all of life's challenges. Hold strong everyone. We can make it with Christ by our side.

I live that so much. It really captures what real love is. It is acceptance, but belief that someone can reach their greatest potential, and a desire to help them do so. That is why God expects so much if us, and why he is always ready to forgive us and help us overcome our shortcomings.

Christ is the way to make the guilt and shame go away. His gospel brings peace and love. Following his commandments brings confidence and contentment.

Its amazing how God can place answers in your life straight in front of you. "Stop trying to do this yourself, Let God Guide You". I am very grateful for this video as it has some relevance to me. Last night it happened once again after a few months of staying away from it. I found myself stumbling back into that pit once again. I was disappointed in myself, I felt I was weak and maybe God can't help me because of it. But I as I was trying to go to sleep to forget about it, I was prompted by something to sit in my bed and pray about it vocally to ask my father in Heaven for forgiveness and for strength to overcome the battle. After that I went to bed with a bit of anxiousness and doubt in the back of my mind thinking "Do you think this will work? Will God assist you in this fight, or will he leave you". I've always felt the spirit at times. I remember when straight after I received the gift of the Holy Ghost I started to cry. It wasn't tears of sadness but tears of joy and happiness. Also other times when I enter the Bishops office I feel the spirit so much in that it's a different feeling than all others I have ever felt. This morning I woke up and started up my computer to do something productive for Seminary as I have been absent for a few days and I wanted to get up to speed with the rest of my class. Our current Seminary topic is The Book of Nehemiah and
I opened up RUclips to learn about it on Book of Mormon Central and by my surprise I saw that the Church had uploaded a new video. (I do watch all the Church's videos when they pop up on my feed, especially the ones with Jesus in them as they always piqued my interest). I clicked on this video hoping I would gain some more knowledge to strengthen my spirit and when I watched the video in depth listening to it I felt like this person is had gone through the same trials as me. I continued to watch and carefully listen when those powerful words entered my ears "But your not a hypocrite, just because you have a bad habit your trying to break. God sees weakness differently then he sees rebellion. When God speaks about weakness it's always with mercy. So stop trying to do this yourself, Let God Guide You" my eyes began to water I knew that God put this video on my feed for me to see. I cannot explain how lucky and thankful I am to the Church and producers of this video. I am also very grateful for the Holy spirit, Jesus Christ and my loving Father in Heaven. For those of who currently going through any battle, that maybe similar or ones any different I felt I should share this with everyone. "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths". Thank you all.

To everyone struggling out there with this addition I just wanna let you guys know I just like how you picked it up you can also drop it right back down that fast and that easily. I know because it happened to me I was addicted for 15 years and now I’ve been freed. I used to never believe people when they say that they would wake up and one day guy just took away their addiction but then it happened to me. So many little gems in this one video that we just fly over your head if you didn’t know more. He stopped focusing on what he didn’t want and started focusing on what he wanted and he said at the end that the ending hadn’t been written yet really take that into consideration and I promise you that you will overcome this. I am gratefulFor everything that heavenly father has given us and me and actually I’m also grateful that he allowed me to go to my diction. It allowed me to build a relationship with him and I know that do I can do all things to the Savior Jesus Christ

Wow!!! just, Wow!!! You guys have hit it out of the ballpark with this message!!!
This reminds me a lot of that foot prints in the sand poem. That Our father in heaven is not asking for us to be perfect, he’s just asking us to take his hand to walk with him. To allow him to guide us as any real loving caring and compassionate parent would. I feel sometimes especially as an adult that I become very stubborn. And feel that l have it all figured out. That l can handle myself, but to be reminded with messages like this. That we all still greatly need his guidance, because he can see the future. Our Heavenly Father can see our potential. But he also can see the things that will tempt us. The things that we can be insnared by the Lucifer with. And if we’re willing to open our hearts and humble ourselves. To ask for help that he will take us as we are now and guide us to what we truly can become. To our true greatness And our true success, not worldly success.

One day, I confessed to my parents that I had an addiction, and from there, I've learned to put my trust in God and others and allow them into my life. Well done Michael! Humbling ourselves by turning to others for help was the wise thing to do! I've been learning to ride motorcycle this summer and a phrase that has really caught in my mind is "target fixation". In motorcycling, it's when you focus on the thing you're afraid of, the side of the road, the obstacle in the way, etc. Instead, we need to focus intensely on the path out of danger. Seems to be wonderfully applicable in many of life's challenges including this one, wouldn't you say?

I myself have struggled for years with pornography. There's never been an easy solution. But I know that secrets lock us into isolation while the truth makes us free. I identify so much with the line 'you haven't written it yet.' Taking away finality makes it possible to live in the gospel today, right in this moment. I'm so thankful for this message.
