See what I like a lot about this song is that it doesn't try to be the greatest song you've ever heard, but it does its absolute best to be the most fun and bouncy song you've heard. And I like that. Such a fun song to listen to.

Okay, you need to get this clear: BABYMETAL does not include and never has included the Kami Band.
Also, the Kami Band has never appeared in a scripted music video (not talking about "live" videos).
There is the concept of Team BABYMETAL which includes the ladies, the musicians, the composers, choreographers, technicians and all kind of their staff.
Team BABYMETAL + the fans = The ONE.

I think this is the first reaction to this song that I‘m seeing that doesn’t have the reactor smile from ear to ear. So I’m a little relieved to see that you at least liked it in the end.
I grew up as a metalhead in the 80s and hated everything about the 90s electronic Pop music, so I shouldn’t like this. Yet I had it running on repeat right after release. It’s so refreshingly fun, and I think the music video contributes a lot to this. Especially for a BABYMETAL fan, it’s nice to see the girls obviously just having fun and goofing around. We don’t get that a lot.
The Kami Band has always only been BABYMETAL‘s live band. They are not playing on the studio recordings, and they have never appeared in a music video. I hate them being pushed to the back as much as the next one, but this is not a sign that they are disappearing completely. Also, this is a collaboration, and it would be a little weird to see two bands playing, wouldn’t it? So one has to stand back.
If I‘m not mistaken, your predictions have already come true, the song was featured as the title song of a WWE show in Berlin.

You were right about the commercial value for this song. WWE already used this as the official song for their Bash in Berlin event:D
Also about the red flag you had. Kami band has never been part of any music videos babymetal has done and they never play in the studio versions of the songs(except for one of the Japanese kami members Leda Cygnus who is credited in couple of babymetal songs). So it makes sense that Kami Band isn't here either since they are only a live band for BABYMETAL. If you someday react to the live version of the song on babymetals channel you will see the Kami Band playing. Also the people saying "it's not babymetal without the Kami band" are wrong. BABYMETAL is literally only the 3 girls and the kami band are their own separate entity. Well obviously not a completely separate since they obviously play for babymetal in their liveshows but officially they have never been part of BABYMETAL.

@@snappy6132 That's not the kami band in the Megitsune MV they don't even hold the right instruments since one is playing the taiko drums not regular drums and all the other actors in the video are holding shamisens not electric guitars or the bass. They are just some actors. Same for the Karate MV those people aren't the kami band players either. Only time you see kami band in the official babymetal videos are the live videos never the studio made music videos.

Good to see your face finally crack a little at the end of the song. Your foreboding was unnecessary.
BABYMETAL are so versatile that they can collaborate with pretty much anybody and make it work and make it work well. They will fit in with their style and they make it look and sound almost effortless ... it takes a lot of hard work, talent and professionalism to make it look so easy.
This collaboration was actually BABYMETAL's idea - they were wanting to make a song people could dance along with like Electric Callboy's 'We Got The Moves' but they felt something was missing.
They decided to ask EC if they would like to be involved so they went to see EC playing in Boston (they were both there at the same time last year) and met up backstage with them before the show.
    'RATATATA' was the result.
After a lot of back and forth and over 20 rewrites and variations etc they finally agreed on this final version. It is very much in the EC style, but I'm very happy you could see it is a real 50-50 collaboration.
I do have one request - give it a rest David, please. The Kami Band were either in Japan or in America getting a break from the almost constant touring ... this video was filmed in Germany with BABYMETAL and Electric Callboy, it surely figures Electric Callboy would be providing the instrumentals for the recording and would be the band appearing in the music video.
The Kami Band are BABYMETAL's LIVE band for LIVE performances. There was no Kami Band at all for the first two years.
From their first appearance in October 2012 and for the next year and a half the Kami Band supported BABYMETAL at a couple of festivals and played the encores in some concerts.
After the first album was released in Feb 2014 BABYMETAL played 2 nights at the Budokan early March 2014 and the Kami Band became the full time support for all LIVE shows (nothing more) from there on.
The Kami Band has never appeared in ANY official music video unless that video was filmed at a live performance.
The Kami Band has never played in ANY studio recording (with the only known exception being Leda Cygnus who played guitar and bass in a handful of songs).
Nothing has changed at all in that respect. All that changed was the Kami Band of the West came in to support BABYMETAL in the increasingly lengthy tours allowing the members of the Kami Band of the East the time to continue with their own projects, other bands, families etc and the Kami Band costumes were changed with masks replacing the face paint.
Everything else with regard to the Kami Band is exactly as it always was since 2014 - that is 10 years and absolutely no reason to think or believe it will change.
Back to the song - BABYMETAL and Electric Callboy were all having even more fun performing it live together at festivals they were both playing - twice at FOX_FEST in Japan during BABYMETAL's sets, then in both bands' sets at Rock im Park and Rock am Ring in Germany and at Resurrection Fest in Spain.
In those sets BABYMETAL would join Electric Callboy and EC would play the instrumentals or Nico and Kevin from EC would join BABYMETAL and the Kami Band played the instrumentals.

  • @ericifune5543
    @ericifune5543 3 дня назад +11

At the Rock am Ring festival, it was played twice, during each of their sets. 10's of thousands dancing along. Electric Callboy's tour manager did a video. He said he was uncertain about the "fu fu" backing vocals. Until he saw it live. It's a common karaoke technique. The entire crowd was singing along and getting hyped even before the song started.

  • @BlackArr0w
    @BlackArr0w 3 дня назад +14

Kami band never was really involved in studio version of songs, that's why it makes sense for EC band to be in the video!
Kami Band is the LIVE BAND, so you will see them in the Live Video, if you decide or get requested to react to the live version of the song.
To be honest the Kami Band as been pushed less back than what they were before 2023. They even got some new Solos (as you could hear in Metali!), that shows that they have no intention of stopping using them!
On a side note, did you notice how cool Kevin looked in the end? No one turns around like he does!!

I forgot to talk about the Kami band stuff. The original Kamis were what's called "East" Kami band. They're the ones you saw in most of their live videos. The Kamis they have at the moment are the "West" Kami band, The two guitarists and the bass player are from the band Galactic Empire, and the drummer is Anthony Barone (formerly of Shadow of Inttent, now with All That Remains).
As someone mentioned, they do give them their solo introductions at the Legend MM concerts. "Yava!" has the one that sticks out the most to me, but I do believe there are a few more that I have missed seeing myself. 😁

Nice reaction. Tyyppl said it already: the Kami Band NEVER participated in a BABYMETAL music video, ever. The Kamis always were their live band, and they stayed their live band through all the years. I don´t think that this will ever change (at least I hope that this will never change). The live version was played by the Kami Band (West) and you´ll hear (and see!) the difference immediately 😉 Are they "pushed back"? No, to the contrary. Maybe one day you´ll react to "Arkadia" from the "Legend MM" concert (2024). A LOT of Kami Band in there, almost like in the early days of live BABYMETAL. And it is a great song, many solo parts of the Kami Band for you to listen to 😉
Btw., the Electric Callboy band did a fabulous job at their live performances of "Ratatata", too! I like their sound very much, very German 😄 I wouldn´t mind to listen to "Arkadia" played by the Electric Callboy band, curious how they would sound playing the song.
Btw., did you notice the slight difference in the sound of the "harsh vocals" here and there? The second "Are you ready??", for example? To be honest, I expected at least a visible reaction. There´s something special in it, not really hidden, almost "in your face", especially if you know about BABYMETAL. Still most reactors simply miss it...

Regarding the Kami Band, I don’t think I’m wrong, but to my knowledge they have never been in music videos (outside of live show videos, of course).
One thing I have noticed, as I follow each of the Kami band individuals on twitter, is that they are involved with a lot of different artists besides BabyMetal and seem to be constantly working, traveling to various places in the world, etc., particularly the Western Kami band members. Maybe their schedules didn’t allow them to take part in the music video. 🤷🏻‍♂️
I appreciate your concerns. I do give credit where it’s due, so I gotta give credit to Kobametal in that he finds the best session musicians to back the girls in studio and on the road. I feel as long as he is in control of production, they’ll always have a great band behind them.
Now…after all the mention of ‘cheese’ and ‘pie’, I need to get something to eat!

    • @i.shuuya3231
      @i.shuuya3231 3 дня назад +4

I think the confusion comes from the fact that BM uses "OFFICIAL" as synonymous with "MV", but very loosely in some cases.
Metali is an official video but no band is shown. However, it has a whole production behind and a defined aesthetic. Karate is also a fully produced music video (OFFICIAL) but *a band* is shown, same with BxMxC, Headbanger, etc.
They also use the word OFFICIAL when they post live footage with the studio tracks, like with Pa Pa Ya. In that video, the actual Kami Band is shown.
So you could make the argument that the Kami Band does feature in BM music videos, but you could also say that those don't count because it's live footage.
Either way, this doesn't tell us anything about whether Babymetal is getting rid of the Kami Band or not lol

That's because most of the pro-shots for the music videos are done at the big stadium shows in Japan, and Su-metal is fully locked in for those. Firstly, thanks for the reaction. Absolutely a top 5 song for me!
Secondly, I am a little disappointed in the 'Conspiracy Theory' thought about the Kami Band stuff. You pointed to this as your evidence that they are being wiped out yet historically the band is almost never in any official music video (there's some grey area over a couple of videos like Karate and Megitsune, but neither clearly shows Kami band members, so could be actors pretending).
Conversely, the official versions from live show performances as of late quite clearly show the Kami Band quite prominently (and both bands, EC and Kami, play the song depending on who's set it is at the time) so i'd offer this as my 'evidence' that Koba and BM are not getting rid of the band at all. The recent videos have cameras focusing frequently on the band (there's even a cool shot of a camera attached to the bottom of a guitar, pointing up towards the neck and seeing the guitarist playing).
Essentially, I think your worries are a little misguided and there's not much to base this theory off.
    Sorry for the ramble!

The Kami band is not and has never been officially part of Babymetal, and are never in music videos. In fact, they are also never even used to record songs. They are 'only' their live band. So nothing new here, especially since Electric Callboy's band IS fully part of their group (obviously), so they will be used for the recording and featured in the MV.
Yes, many fans agree with you that the Kami band should not be pushed back to the background as much as they have been for the last couple years (me included) but this collab and this MV does not prove anything towards them possibly getting rid of them all together, in my opinion. And I really see no reason to assume that will ever be the case.

Really fun reaction! The one thing I was wondering after seeing your reaction to Momobanger last month was if you were going to be the first reactor I've seen catch that Momo was doing some of the harsh vocals here as well. You didn't mention it but then I don't think I've seen any reactions where the reactor did, so no worries, was just a minor curiosity.
To address your concerns at the end, note that the Official Live video of the debut live performance at Babymetal's Fox Fest 2024 where Electric Callboy were special guests, the performance came during Babymetal's set and so features the Kami band with just the two Electric Callboy singers joining Babymetal on stage. There is fan footage of some European festivals where Babaymetal joined Electric Callboy to do the song during Electric Callboy's set that it was the other way around. So, basically when they are actually on stage together physically you get whichever band it is the set of. Then when either act performs it in their regular shows, they use video footage of the other vocalists while performing with their own band. Also, the Kami Band has never had a strong presence in this sort of theatrical Music Video. Music Videos that use footage of live performances yes, but not theatrical music videos like this one. I'm not going to say you concerns will never come true (though like you I hope they don't), but I definitely don't think you need to worry that this is Exhibit A that it has begun.

    'Musically there's a lot happening'
Absolutey, the fine craftmanship behind this track makes a very cleverly considered song sound effortlessly simple.
The first chorus is stripped of music power to make it hit harder later on and prevent fatigue. The Harmonic minor scale is used in the Japanese verse insted of a pentatonic.
The expected ratatata pre-chorus the 3rd time is reduced to a musical jumpscare to reset the brain and get it 'ready for the drop'. It has a pre and post chorus that could be effective choruses in themselves, and uses radical variations in the 3 verses. It's a massively acessible but still eccentric and unique feeling pop-metal song. This is not even mentioning the video which is instantly memorable. its more than genre-mashing it's musicaly alchemy.
Give it a few more listens and you will soon know how addictive this song is. 3 listens turn into 30+ If you don't love now, there's a good chance you might in a few days.

Kami band is never in non-live music videos. They never have been. They weren't a part of the BMTH collab either. They've done a bunch of stuff without the Kami band. I mean, let's be honest, the Kami band has been a constant rotation really since day one...just like their studio musicians...

If you listen to the first Babymetal album this collaboration really makes sense.
Iine and Uki Uki Midnight have some heavy electronic elements.
About the band, looking at the credits of the video I'm pretty sure the music is played by EC (produced and mixed mostly by EC members, only Koba is mentioned, probably for working on the girls' recordings).
The decision on which channel it would be released was either a marketing decision or they just threw a dice.
They might switch out Kami band members just as they did in the past when the band members have other things to do (they play in other bands or have their solo stuff). They had to replace bassist Clint Tustin with Ryan Neft for some shows this year and I think Anthony Barone will be missing on drums on some upcoming shows.
But they won't play without a live band ever again. They are big enough to afford a band. And the fans expect a live band.
And the experiment with Metalverse performing without live band did not really work out well. So at Fox_Fest they had Asterism as backing band.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 Don't worry. In the latest two-day Arena shows (Legend-MM) in Japan, our Kami Band (Chris, CJ, Anthony and Clint) played 4 cool instrumental intros that the audience loved and applauded.
I had been interested in your reaction when you would have covered this song. You finally did it. Before I viewed today's video, I was sure that it would turn out to be a lot of fun because your recording time is over 40 minutes. That is normally a good sign, and I was correct 😄 。 As you predicted, this song has been used in WWE events, two times.
I fortunately witnessed the live debut and the second performance of RATATATA by BABYMETAL and Electric Callboy together in the two-day Fox_Fest on May 25 / 26 in Japan. Fun, happy, exhilarating, bubbly... Those words I could think of, as you can imagine. There were many mosh / circle pits over there 🤣. On Day-1, the girls and Nico / Kevin hugged each other (then group hug) to celebrate the success of the live debut (heartwarming!!)
You must like that live performance, because this song was played in the BABYMETAL's setlist in the festival. So the band on this stage was our Kami Band (I liked it, too !!).
★ Just so you know, you can find the official LIVE video in RUclips !!

Say what you will about RATATATA but it has already become their biggest hit. Along with giving them their first #1 single on Billboard.
Add to this passing the 40 million streams on Spotify. i think it is safe to say here. This has been a very good year for Babymetal.
Also, this was a 50/50 project as Kevin had talked about in an earlier interview. More than i have seen in past projects. We also got to see a side of BabyMetal we rarely do.
    _____________________________________________
So this was a nice departure here. In addition to seeing Momo-Metal growling more as well. As you see in the duel with Kevan "Are You Ready" in the 2 chorus is actually Momoko.
Koba has stated he wants to use Momoko's talents more here moving forward. Which all i can say is f*** yea!! 🤘🦊 However, this isn't their lastest project here.
That litterly just dropped almost as we are speaking. Babymetal just performed on Music Station. Which is one of tbe countries biggest music performance networks.
    _____________________________________________
They performed alongside Eric Martain of TMG. Or better known for the 80's rock band Mr. BIG. It takes a bit to suprise me here but this really was a huge suprise.
They both performed Eternal Flames of what i think is one of Su-Metal's strongest vocal performancs of the year. Eric and Su blend so well together & while this was just a teaster.
The full version should be coming out soon. Anyways, great reaction as always here!! Babymetal soon will be opening for SlipKnot as well in Mexico City. So we have that to look foward to as well. 🙀💕

  • @lencooke944

Hahaha, Damn, after a mostly positive review of both bands you launch a conspiracy theory of how Babymetal will junk 10 years or more of live backed performances for some complete form of backing track. That's just really weird, and it is wildly inaccurate. You made a bold claim, can you please explain how you came to this conclusion? I would really love to hear how you are able to suggest this without using the terms like: "just my thoughts," "I have heard", or "my friend who is 'connected' told me".
David, I am really comfortable with your score, I would have been comfortable with your score if it was a three; We don't all like the same music. That would have been completely justified. No harm, no foul. But to push an unfounded conspiracy theory is just poor form. It devalues your credibility.

Great review, you definitely had me in the first half thinking you’re gonna hate it 😂.
Your analysis of an even 50/50 collab is dead on and so is your comment about “forging swords” and the repetitive effort going into it.
This was done in a true 50/50 collab fashion, with EC and Babymetal going back and forth with numerous iterations to forge this banger of a song.
Also, as others have mentioned, Kami Band has never been in any Babymetal MVs. They also aren’t on any of their studio recordings. Strictly live session band only since inception.
With that said, if you check out their Mar 2024 Legend MM 2-day concert, you’ll see that the Kami Band got massive camera time, with 2 solos per night as well. So no need to worry about the Kamis being pushed aside any more.
    🤘🦊

Yeah I enjoyed the video as well, great collab though I am a babymetal fan so I generally like everything they do, electric callboy did a great job though they dont really do music I like. I have been watching Babymetal for a decade, I never thought the Kami band was part of babymetal, babymetal are the girls. The kami band has always been the musicians for the live performances in videos and on tours. There are 2 kami bands, an eastern and western one, the western being american based musicians. There are and have been over 20 musicians over the years in the Kami band. These guys all have other jobs plus the Kami band also Plays for Metalverse, which is a sister group to babymetal, also from Amuse, 5 of them in the exact same styling as babymetal, they cover babymetal songs and have originals. My guess here is Amuse figured out they really cant "graduate" Su, Momo and Moa as is typically done with Idols get older and Su is closer the 30 than 20 years old, so I think they chose to make a new sister group to have the younger girl idols do do what babymetal was doing in their early years. But I digress... The Kami band has always been the backing band of babymetal, never really the group itself but they are not going anywhere, Babymetal above all things is a live performance group and the Kami band is made for that as well as the Kami band is also doing Metalverse as well. The are not fading into the background, their role was never to be part of the group.

I like how I can often relate to the way you feel and vibe with songs or not David. This one is no exception. I also went in with a little dread because Electric Callboy isn't exactly my favourite band. I am not someone who really enjoys bands that are trying too hard to be funny, to a point where I find it often just does a disservice to the music they're playing. I often compared them (and still do) to a metal/modern day LMFAO. Or to Weird Al. It's fun for 3 min once or twice per year and then I'll go back to other things that I enjoy.
But this song surprised me a lot. I think when they knew they were going to collab with BABYMETAL, they took it very seriously but kept their fun side. And at the end of the day, those involved in writing and producing this song have really nailed the collab to a T. The song progresses flawlessly and the collaboration feels like a perfect 50/50 blend of very enjoyable music from what both artists do best.
I grew a new found respect for EC coming out of that collaboration, even if that still would not make me a fan of theirs. Great song, totally taken aback as well.

    Heck 8.8?
And on the new scoring system, too?
Thats even higher than I thought it could have been!
Kami Band is *not* part of Babymetal. It is, and always has been just the 3 girls.
Unfortunately, as they've been growing, the focus have been shifting more to the trio.
My guess is that in the early days they needed the band to be more in the spotlight, just to make an statement that it wasn't jusy cute girls, but good musicians as well.
That said, I dont think they will ever drop the live band.
Just wish they could get more attention, like in the early days.

David, you have to understand why fans are so frustrated with your views on the Kami Band. Since the groups return the Kami Band have been more prominent (on stage, social media etc.) than at anytime since the early days. Each performance they're stood right next to Su, Moa, Momo, interacting, having fun etc. They've also added a couple of solos. For some recent Asian performances, drummer Anthony Barone, even prioritised BABYMETAL over his own band. Flying in from the US for a handful of shows. The Kami Band are also extremely proud of their position in the group, often posting BABYMETAL related videos, behind-the-scenes photos, praising staff etc.

Something this song did (i say song as it wasn't just the colab itself) is increase Babymetals fan base by 50%. Not just a temporary boost like 'The End' did, but a solid and sustainable increase. It probably had the same effect on EC. How do i know...spotify monthly listen rates (yes, i'm a geek and proud). Before Ratatata, Babymetal monthly rates hovered between 2.1 to 2.2 million. After Ratatata the monthly rate peaked at 4.6 million over the next month before slowly setling on 3.3 million and has stayed like that for months now. I think that is scientific enough evidence to come to the 50% conclusion.

I still hope we get a BehindTheScenes vid on the EC channel at some point (though at this point it seems unlikely), especially since the production of it was done on their "hometurf" (probably also why the Kami band is absent) and the vid released on BMs channel. Going by the few interviews I watched during the festival season following this release, both BM and EC, and TankTheTechs comments on his channel who was on tour with EC during that time, this was initiated by BM, who wanted a very dancy and catchy tune. The song with four hooks 😀
From my understanding the song went back and fourth 20 odd times between BabyMetal and Electric Callboy until we get this final mix.
I am glad you were requested the Official MV for a change. The Official live video is not good at all in my opinion. A much better live version is the one from Rock AM Ring 2024.
You must have the patience of a saint to keep repeating about how to request songs on your channel. Well done.
For me, this collaboration is epic. I am not a fan of Electric Callboy but the part they play in writing the song and making the MV is wonderful. I am reminded of Dads dancing at their daughters birthday party. 🤣
I hoped you would notice how happy Moa, Momoko and Su were. They were not having to remember dance moves, stage position, blocking etc. The joy the acting gave them is noticeable and for me, it is part of the charm of the MV. You did catch the fact that they were joining in the humour. 😎

And there are significant differences between the two groups. One of Electric Callboys Band members is the Co Owner of their video Production Company, so it eas kind of obvious who they would ask for help with a video. While in the case of Babymetal the Video Crew for leave it all behind came from F. Hero while the Video shoot for Ratatata was done in Germany. While the Kami Band was preparing for the first live perfomance at the Fox Fest a few days later. Yes Electric Callboys took their whole Band with them to Japan, but this was more a benefit for them, they had tank there.

I love this song but i really hate colabs, i feel it dilutes the brand of both bands when i se it. Babymetal are doing far to many atm, i wish they would concentrate on their own music tbh as the output has been quite low for how long they have been on the scene. As for the Kami band they were never part of the group to begin with, they were only brought in for lives, they don't even perform on the studio albums as far as i know. Also the proper Kami band dont even perfom with them anymore in their original itteration.

They have really only done 2 true colabs in this sense of the word (leave it all behind and ratatata) the rest have been guest appearences, some years old. Their last album had no colabs at all. These colabs are what Babymetal do inbetween albums. It's either this, or long stretches of nothing new at all until the first single from their next album drops. If you don't like them you can always ignore them, you don't have to like everything.

So we have a total of 5 collaborations in 15 moths.

@@General_Cartman_Lee I know, but i meant only two of these are non-guest colabs. Only Metali and Ratatata are official Babymetal songs that they have the rights to publish. LIAB isn't a true guest collab but probably belongs to F Hero. People can take or leave non-official Babymetal songs. It's obviously a planned phase that might have one more surprise colab before ending. And they have increased their fanbase by a solid and sustainable 50% with Ratatata so it's not a bad thing in the long run.

@@Ryujin170 Also it's better to have such good collaborations than having nothing new.
Also contrary to colonelbasic9736's opinion I wouldn't call 4 albums in 10 years "low output". Not everyone is so productive to release 12 albums in 7 years (The Beatles) or 7 in 5 years (Queen).

@@General_Cartman_Lee Yeah we would all like more Babymetal music. But i think the problem that some bands like Band-maid have is too much output. Dedicated fans may be fine with this, but it can overwhelm a newer fan and make them less likely to listen to everything they have done, possibly never listening to deeper cuts. Babymetal have avoided this by pairing their back catalouge down to the bone. They probably have a ton of songs that they could have released but didn't as Koba likes to obssess over one song to perfection instead of just producing many.

To your question: Where is the Kami Band? Hmmm, I had the chance to see the Ratatata performance twice within 3 hours at the same day. At the Rock am Ring and Rock im Park festival in Germany this year you could listen to both. First the three ladies guested with Electric Callboy and their band performing "Ratatata" and hours later the Electric Callboy guested with Babymetal and the Kami Band. And what should I say? You could not find the difference. So "Ratatata" seems to be stripped down being playable without the extraordinary virtuosity by the Kami Band. It is working for everybody. Both bands have it on the setlist for their individual tour and nothing is lacking.
