That bass line is an absolute killer.
There's a famous performance of the song from 2013 in Tokyo. It is a bit different though because it's more than 10 years after the song was recorded. Recommending Cave and The Small Print from MUSE next.

2:53 You are right about Too Many Puppies' feel. Primus was one of their influences. And Muse occasionally played Too Many Puppies' riff in their earlier days. Another fact, Futurism led to the idea for Hysteria's bassline.

Not the original version and although this XX version does not have as many changes as other songs the vocal effects are brought up way more in the mix. To be honest they don't add much, if anything, when compared to the original.

Funny you should mention Too Many Puppies on that cymbal intro, I bet it's a direct nod to Primus. When I saw em at Bottlerock, they started playing the intro to Too Many Puppies, and I thought Futurism was coming. Sure enough the band talked about how big of an influence Primus was for the band growing up, and jammed out some Too Many Puppies riffage! I was stoked.
(6.2 is objectively a proper score for this Muse b-side... not a special song for Muse by any means, but checks some boxes, and is a short&sweet track if you're in a certain mood.
The song sounds good but overall it's ok and I personally didn't like the vocal effect but it's ok
This is the remixed version and although I like a lot of them more than the originals, this one was just bleh. I am not sure how to elaborate, but it feels overmixed and just loud compared to the original to me. It still is a good song though, and I am glad you agree.
Remixed version on this track is better, period.
You should check out their Shepherd's Bush performance, those small gigs with the die hard crowds are AMAZING! I'm not a fan of this song or some of their other b sides.... But they played a few at that gig and live they're so great. I should have expected that really as I hate Muse recorded, I think their music is so boring. However I've seen them live three times and they manage to become one of the best bands in the world somehow.
Futurism is one of my favorite songs, with my favorite Muse bassline, but i really wish they didn't make you react to the remix, i loved all of the OoS remixes, except for this one, maybe it's the vocals. I like the original better, live is great too.
May i ask what was the most impressive song you've heard from muse?
PLEASE please please listen to Only Dying by Stone Temple Pilots. Its a demo on core. Its incredible.
If this was two years ago, would it have gotten a 6.2? Or is a 6.2 different and considered "higher" today than it would have been two years ago?
@@amassaic Remember I had to rework the scoring to make it more clear what the number scores stood for, plus I got tougher to avoid the trap I kinda fell into.
Definitely a mid song imo for Muse. Nothing really special about it, yet not terrible, it just exists within their discography
