You should check out: "Queen: 1977 We Will Rock You - Part 1: Rocking the World (Episode 11)", on the Queen Official YT channel. It goes over how they came to make the song We Will Rock You. Very interesting in how the stomps and the claps came together.
Honestly, you should do a whole-album reaction to A Night At The Opera if you want to dive into more Queen. It's full of absolute bangers and will grow you as a person!
The man wasn't trash talking 😅 I get played every time I watch Queen live. And I LOVE it ❤ Freddie is a truly masterful artist. There will never be another one like him 😢

@@kristie825 so true. I remember Queen all the way from my childhood. In the 90's I was a young teen, listened to Queen, Whitney Houston, Bryan Adams. I know that Queen is back thanks to Adam Lambert (somehow it works, but he knows he will never be Freddie and I respect him for that). Whitney Houston died not so long ago (at least for me), I still "have" Bryan Adams (actually I've been at his concert few years back and I'm going again, he will be in Poland next month). But artists like these don't pretty much exist anymore.
Freddie had a throat infection and he was told by his doctor not to perform because he could have damaged his vocal chords but Freddie said that Queen would be there. Freddie at 70 % is better than most at 100%. He had 70,000 fans in the crowd and 1.5 billion watching at home in the palm of his hand that day
@RoverWaters It was one of the largest satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time; an estimated audience of 1.9 billion, in 150 nations watched the live broadcast, nearly 40 per cent of the world population. The impact of Live Aid on famine relief has been debated for years.
I was one of the 1.5 billion watching at home in the US. I was 15. I still remember being moved to my feet watching Queen. And Freddie, omg Freddie, had me in the palm of his hand. This performance STILL gives me goosebumps and brings me to tears ❤🤘🏼
This live set put Queen back on the map and immortalized Freddie Mercury as the greatest frontman to have ever graced a stage. Even almost 50 years later We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions are still sport anthems, and Bohemian Rhapsody is still one of the most unique and beautifully composed rock songs because of Freddie's huge love for opera
I envy you finding Queen now . I first saw them 1973 and have loved them since . Over 50 hits but the album tracks are amazing too . Freddie was a one off , nobody could compare !!
@@kennyamer3327 i’m so jealous of you !! i was born in 2009 and i absolutely love queen and freddie. such a special band i don’t think no other band/singer will compare EVER
It's important to remember that this wasn't Queen playing to a Queen audience. The people there that day weren't specifically there to see Queen, a lot of them wouldn't have said they were Queen fans, but he had them fully in his control, eating out of the palm of his hands. He was THAT powerful as a performer, THAT charasmatic.
Hey @annmariew100 correct me if i`m wrong but my was told Queen was not even annoucend to be performing that day ? werent they not just a back-up band ?
@@masky1739 They were not a back up band but they joined up a bit late. I believe it was already sold out when they announced they would be there, so the audience did not know that Queen would be there when they bought the tickets
@@leong1190 Roger found them a place to rehurse and kept them at it. timing them tightly so that they were totally on point for the concert. Many of the "big bands" hadn'''t really made that much effort, and simply played their latest hits. Queen totally ruled.
@@joannagodfrey5111 I saw that in a documentary. After they decided to join the concert they went all the way. They knew the time would be tight. They are just about wrapping up at 29:15 and you see a red light come on at the front of the stage. Apparently that was the time light.
The best Live Aid performance for sure, but in no way the best live performance ever. Not even Queen's best live performance in History. Most watched, I can believe that!
@@endthisnonsense7202while the matter is very *very* subjective, queen’s live aid performance is considered THE best live performance of all time by many, *many* people
I was 5½ and this is an earliest stand out memory, on the loud TV -- and Queens manager (I think) really DID push the master volume up so they were louder than the other acts too 😂 that was in the movie but it's true 😆 Savage 😁
I was there that day in 1985 as a 15yr old pop music lover... I left that day as a convert to rock music, thanks mainly to Freddie & Co... You need to remember that this was NOT a Queen concert or even a Queen audience, in fact they were a last minute addition to the line up. That said for 22 minutes that afternoon Freddie had close to 73,000 people in Wembley and almost 1.9 billion watching on TV globally eating out of the palm of his hand. I'm now a 55yr old woman who's been to 300ish live rock concerts over the years, everyone from Guns n Roses to ACDC to Uriah Heep, Meatloaf, Status Quo, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi (48 times 😂) to H.I.M and the 69 Eyes.. but that 22 minutes right there is still by far the best 22 minutes of live greatness EVER! And one show that has never left my memory! God bless you Freddie and Thank you for the music.. RIP you legend 👑👑👑
What a fantastic memory! Wow, you shared history. I like to think and speak of Freddie in the present tense! He was only on loan to us 😢 but lives on In our memories and these historic videos! 🙏 he’ll never really die. ❤️
"an estimated audience of 1.9 billion, in 150 nations" if you take the population of those 150 countries you get ~1.9 billion which implies everybody from those countries watched or listened the broadcast.
I was excited when I got Queen +AL tickets, it came up at work: Coworker: I don't know Queen. Me: yes you do, you just don't know you know Queen. Coworker just looks confused, so I stomp, stomp, clap a couple times. Coworker: that's "We Will Rock You" Me:..... which was written by Queen. Coworker: And "We Are the Champions"? Me: Also Queen. Coworker: I guess I DO know Queen! We didn't even get to "Another One Bites the Dust".
When he was shocked that we will rock you was from queen,my first thought was,"wait until the next song is coming up,he'll be shocked that we are the champions was also from queen lmao". I was not disappointed😂😂
47yr old black woman here. Our Era of music was the best time to be alive for a lot of us Growing up we didn't see color when listening to good music❤...... The Best Soundtracks To A Lot Of Our Lives .....🥰
We didn't see colour and we didn't see homosexual, lesbians etc❤ We loved the music and didn't bother about anything else❤❤ (From a white, 53 year old😉)
We were too busy living life to see colour, we lived through music. Now at 69 i cannot go a day without music and way back when Bob Marley sang Dont worry about a thing coz every little thing is gonna be alright, that became my mantra to life. From an old white woman.
Amen to that! And strangely it seems Gen X grew up the same all over the western world. In South Africa we had the same experience. We raised ourselves, loved music, our friends was our everything and everyone that enjoyed what we enjoyed was our friend. No medication for kids, no therapy. It was sink or swim. But we helped each other and protected one another. We hated establishment and their rules. But had enough fear of authority that we dreaded disappointing our parents by making bad decisions. Good thing is, no cellphones! But otherwise it was us against the world and we lived in an awesome era! Things started changing in the 90s and it accelerated faster and faster to the chaos we have today. Where almost nothing is authentic, true or sincere. I look back and have only good memories although our home life was a horror show, we survived by living outside in the world we created. Cheers my fellow Gen Xers! How blessed we were/are to have those memories and experiences.
It wasn’t only Queen who realized they had been sensational. Paul Gambaccini, who was part of the BBC broadcasting team at Live Aid, recalled the awe among other superstar musicians watching backstage. “Everybody realized that Queen was stealing the show,” said Gambaccini. These were the very words Elton John uttered when he rushed into Mercury’s trailer after the set. “You bastards, you stole the show,” joked the charismatic star. “Queen smoked ’em. They just took everybody. They walked away being the greatest band you’d ever seen in your life, and it was unbelievable,” said Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters. “And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time, because they could connect with an audience.” . Their impact was summed up by Geldof. “Queen were absolutely the best band of the day,” the Live Aid organizer said. “They played the best, had the best sound, used their time to the full. They understood the idea exactly, that it was a global jukebox. They just went and smashed one hit after another. It was the perfect stage for Freddie: the whole world.”
The lead guitarist, Sir Brian May, is also a legitimate rocket scientist (astrophysicist). The entire band is easy to overlook with Freddie in front, but they’re an amazing band
@@karenpostelwait6508 Not to forget Roget, who did the high notes of Bohemian, or how John made an amp in the 70's that's so unique Brian still hasn't managed to recreate that specific sound to this day. They were all so incredibly skilled
At 75 now this was MY era...I find it wonderful how so many younguns are getting into and being blown away by Queen right now. We knew it, we felt it, we were there !
We all seem to have a strange sense of pride about it. Like "Ha! Take that (insert any current artist's name here)!" Don't get me wrong. There's some really good stuff out there recently. There's also some real crap. I love it when the younger generations realize what they missed out on. My daughter is 42 years old and she's a HUGE Queen fan. I brought her up right. LOL
The moment "Hammer to Fall" starts, after that call and answer, this is no longer "Live Aid". This is a Queen Concert, that happens to have other people there as guest bands.... There is a reason that this performance is considered the greatest live performance of music in all of human history.
4:42 lol not even Queen could do the “Galileo”s live. They mixed it so much and hit such high notes, they played that part as a recording during concerts. I was obsessed with Queen a couple years ago, I watched hours of docs and live concerts. I bought Queen’s entire discography on vinyl and jt was my best decision that year. If you watch Dave grohl perform, you can tell he watched this concert 1,000 times
9:45 so Radio Gaga of means nothing-kind of. Roger Taylor (drummer) has said in interviews, his toddler wandered into the room and said “Radio Caca” and Roger was like …that’s funny…hm So they kinda went off that, but Freddie also had a deep affinity for actual radios, because this was right around when MTV was starting to “kill the radio star”. So that’s part of it, the lyrics “someone still loves you” is about the radio as a dying medium. The video is crazy and futuristic, but the bloopers are even better, because they can’t stop laughing and they look ridiculous in a flying car. Also Lady Gaga’s stage name is a direct reference to this song.
Crazy Little thing called love is a tribute to Elvis, written by Freddie in his bathtub in under 10' The man holds an entire stadium on his hands with his charisma.. That's a night that Queen stole the whole show.. ❤❤
Always amazes me watching people react to this that no ever comments during Crazy Little Thing that Brian May seamlessly swaps guitars, not once, but twice. He's a guitar ninja, I swear.
If you want to see the true power of Queen watch the video of the audience at a Green Day concert singing Bohemian Rhapsody word for word. What often gets forgotten is Queen weren't on stage until about 6pm in the evening and the show started at midday, and it had been a hot day, and everyone must have been suffering from the heat and the sheer amount of time thy'd been stood around, yet were still this enthusiastic to see Freddie and Queen, it wasn't just a Queen audience there yet to see and hear them you wouldn't think so.
After this performance, the part where Freddie gets the audience following his "ayyy-oh" runs became part of the next Queen stadium tour the following year (1986, again at Wembley), and is SO epic and legendary here in the UK, that 21 years after Freddie died, at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics in 2012, they had huge screens and holograms of Freddie (along with support from Jessie J) doing it, with 80,000 live spectators, including literally thousands of mega athletes like Usain Bolt, Lebron James, Michael Phelps, Andy Murray, Gabby Douglas, etc (and me, but I'm not an Olympic athlete lmao 😂)... all singing along at his command - it was spine-tingling and AMAZING (it's here on YT if you want to see it) 🤯🤩🤩
None like Freddie, before, then or since. Powerful magic. At 78 years old, I was able to enjoy his magic during its own time. His work never gets old. I was also captivated by his work with Montserat Caballe. The two of them loved and respected the talents of each other. Now that they are both gone, we are so fortunate to still have their music. Thank you for reacting to his music in the best way it can be cherished.
It always cracks me up when people discover that Queen wrote We will Rock You and We are the Champions. I grew up with rock music to the point of playing it myself, so this band is extremely well known to me, but I do realize not everyone had my upbringing. Watching people discover the stuff I grew up loving, and finding a love for it is as entertaining for me as the music is.
I’m also tickled by this. I’ve seen several people saying that they didn’t know that was queen! So funny I always thought these two songs were so iconicly queen.
I just love waiting for the moment when it dawns on people that they have known some Queen songs all their lives! So special! Queen is the most amazingly talented band, and Freddie Mercury is just mesmerising!
It's also worth saying that even back then the crowd knew the words and came in for the first "We will we will rock you" when Freddy stays silent......
If you notice there are 3 lights at the front of the stage, they indicate how much time you have left. Each artist had 20 minutes to perform. When Queen runs on stage you hear them all do a quick sound check. At the end of the set just as the last cymbal crash falls the light turns red showing they are done. This is THE Masterclass on stage performance.
I watched this live, with my dad, THE biggest Queen fan...even he was blown away by the brass balls of opening with Bohemian Rhapsody! Where do you go from there?! If you're Freddie, where-ever the hell you want! This was THE best live act I've ever seen! It didn't set the bar, it threw it into the stratosphere!
@@KnoxHill holy shit is the best explanation. It was an electric time! Why we were there, what Liverpool Aid supported, all of it. Honestly, I was in tears. I have never been that engaged in a performance before or since. Everyone was there for a purpose. Didn’t matter ideology, politics or belief, we were there for a common good. It was a time I will never forget. I was 20 when I was there. They don’t do music or festivals like this anymore!
A day I'll never forget. He wasn't just a singer, he was an entertainer. I still have my Live Aid ticket today nicely laminated and locked away safely in a safe. I was there Somewhere in the middle in front of the small black stage with the cameras. Even better when he came back on stage later that night.
There was no intro because the performance was limited to 20 minutes. He and his band rehearsed this until they had the timing perfect to highlight his biggest hits. It worked he had a huge comeback that lasted 10 years.😊
*Their hits (they were all incredible song writers). And unfortunately his comeback couldn't have lasted 10 years as he died 5 years later. No one like him before or since.
TRIVIA: At 2:22 Freddie was blowing a kiss to his Mom, who was watching the live show on TV at home. At 10:21 According to Brian May, Freddie’s “AY-OH” call-and-repeat w the crowd… was NOT planned! (At least, the other band members did NOT know it was going to happen.) When Freddie sang that first “Ay-Oh!”… Brian said he was at the back of the stage (he was doing something w his back to the audience) and he just thought to himself: “Oh, so we’re doing THAT, now, are we?!?”😳😄 At 16:30 In EVERY live show, at some point Freddie would always “give a backside bow” to the crowd as an “EFF YOU” to the guy about whom Fred wrote the savage diss song: “Death On Two Legs”. At 18:00, 19:00, and 20:28 While performing “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, Brian May always changed guitars THREE times: 1) Acoustic 2) Stratocaster (borrowed from Bass player John Deacon) and 3) Brian’s Red Special. (Brian’s so smoooth, most people NEVER notice!) BONUS: 23:02 “Oh my God, I’m an IDIOT”😁 26:25 “Oh sh___t, I shouldn’t even publish this video”😜 29:27 YOU NOTICED THE LIGHT CHANGE AT THE END! (NO ONE ever notices that the red “stop” light comes on EXACTLY at the same moment that Fred’s arm comes down… That’s just how PERFECTLY the band had practiced their timing.) 29:45 You also noticed that Freddie would make a point of highlighting the other band members during their solos.🥰
Thanks to Roger's perfect metronomic beat and plenty of rehearsal they only ran over their slot by 12 seconds, which seems to cast doubt on the call and response Ay-Oh bit being unplanned. You seem more informed on this than me though, you've piqued my interest.... I'll check it out, thanks
@@philhallbrook7008 If you find out I was misinformed, please let me know! (I’m sorry I don’t remember if Brian’s quote was just in print (which of course would cast doubt on it) or an on-video interview. I’ve thought about the timing aspect of course, but finally assumed they must’ve allocated a couple of minutes “padding” where Fred had probably “intended” to give a little introduction. I believe Peter Freestone had also said in an on-camera interview something about the “AY-OH” session being spur-of-the-moment. Peter’s opinion was that, because the not-a-Queen-only-but-mixed audience had responded so well following Fred’s lead during “Radio GaGa”… that Freddie just decided to do the “AY-OHs” on the spot.
@@GreatestFrontman I grew up listening to Queen because of my dad. I was lucky enough to see them play MK Bowl but unfortunately I was only about 6 so don't remember appreciating it like I would today. Genius is right
Freddie used the broken mic stand as a performance signature. At an early concert he accidentally broke the mic stand off the base but continued the show.
I’m 73 and had the incredible experience of being there live‼️ Everyone there walked away high on Freddie! Everyone went into the stadium high, then Freddie sang us straight, then took us outside our universe with his own personal magic carpet 🤩❣️‼️❣️ To think that he was sick that day-He was a true wizard and the mic was his wand🪄🪄🪄❣️❣️‼️
Hi, this was Queens 17-minute slot at LiveAid in 1985, and I had the honour of being there. You seem to think we were sitting in rows? No, this is the old Wembley stadium, and the crowd was to capacity ...72,000. This was the greatest performance of all time. I first saw Queen in 1977 plus a further four times up to 1986 at their last concert. The amazing thing is that no one knew who would be performing until they came on stage BUT everyone is a Queen fan. How could you not be ? Also Freddie was performing against doctors orders . He had a throat problem at the time !!!!❤ pleased you love it and I wish we had a time machine and do it again. Cheers from the UK xxx❤
People need to stop saying this because it is not true. Queen was one of the bands mentioned in the original announcement by Bob Geldof. Queen hadn’t agreed to do the concert yet but neither did half of the bands Geldof rattled off.
It°s not true!!!! Queen were booked from the very beginning, Geldof planed it, they just did not know about it and later they were not really interested in it. But thank God they said finally yes to perform. So the whole world can enjoy this. Anyway during the Queen performance called up a person and gave the biggest donation!!!! So Queen saved Live Aid. Their concert was streamed in Philadelphia in the JFK stadium too. Mega!!!!
Mercury had a baritone, but through incredible control of his voice he sang like a tenor. His vocal range spanned four full octaves, more precisely 37 semitones. An analysis of his vibrato determined that his vocal chords simply vibrated faster than others. Mercury’s vibrato moved at a whopping 7.04 Hz, whereas the typical Western classical singer has a vibrato somewhere in the range of 5.4 Hz to 6.9 Hz - and this is just for classical singing.
The measure of true greatness, is sounding even BETTER live, than they do in the studio, with effortless transitions. Queen rehearses until everything is second nature. Pure professionalism!! ❤
The Galileos, as you put it, are a complete studio creation. I am 68, and have seen Queen 5 different times, with Freddie as lead singer, when they did Bohemian Rhapsody live, they left the stage and let the music, and lights and incredible audience participation take over. They came back on for the Rock finale. Radio Gaga is where Lady Gaga took her name. Radio Gaga is about the watered down meaningless lyrics on many stations, real music is to be treasured and preserved. Hammer to Fall is about nuclear annihilation. (In the shadow of the mushroom cloud) . Rain pouring through the window panes is about nuclear fall out. Chernobyl is a horrible example of what we have to be so careful to protect our children from. Freddie broke the mic stand when he began with Queen, he just likes it more lightweight.
Those were the days, also have the best memories of concerts back up to early 2000s. Best memories because I was invested in the artist, not through a phone screen. Imagine the "aaaaaaaaaayo" part through a phone screen. Naaaaaah!!!!!!!
For 20 minutes queen had not just the live crowd but everyone watching around the world in the palm of their hands. Freddie was in total control that night. Epic performance
As others have said.. they (all performers that day) had 20 minutes (absolute) to do their set. Queen spent a week practicing so they could squeeze as much of as many of their hits as possible.. they nailed it. Also - they were not on the program as they were a last minute add.. so this wasn’t a Queen crowd! There will never be another Freddie… he WAS music! Great reaction, as always… thank-you!
True professionals. You can actually see the stage light turning red at the exact second Freddie brings his arm down to finish the last song. What a tight band.
I hosted my first viewing party for Live Aid. It was an experience. Half a dozen of us crammed into my little studio apt. My tv hooked up to my box speakers, all the windows open. I was a fan before, but after that I was a die-hard fan for life. Even at that distance Freddie's power came thru the screen. Queen did not disappoint. We clapped and sang along. Thankfully it seemed everyone in the building was also having a Freddie experience so there were no noise complaints. :)
The drummer, Roger Taylor, helped Freddie with the high notes due to Freddie being ill. I love hearing the beginning when each of them do a sound check in just a few seconds that you would miss it if you didn't know it was happening. Such an amazing band. I am happy that Roger and Brian May still get to play the songs they helped to bring alive and as well as the ones they wrote. Each member brought something to the table and Freddie mesmerized the world.
There was, is and never will be an artist like Freddie ever again. This dude was one of a kind a master of the voice, a king of audience and a queen of the stage. He is a Legend a true Champion and Champions never die cause he'll be remembered forever 🔥🤞🏻
No truer words said. And I'm so proud that Freddie is instilled in my children and still children around the world hear him and love him !! Therefore he still lives in people's hearts 💕
"So don't become some background noise, a backdrop for the girls and boys who just don't know and just don't care and just complain when you're not there" Thanks for encouraging people to listen actively.
Hahahaha the last 2 reactions that’s amazing. Even someone as musically inclined as yourself didn’t know how much these guys changed music. They have to be one of the most special bands of all time
Especially as we knew this was going to be the expression having seen the reaction to "we will rock you" and knowing "we are the champions" would be the next song.
I think everyone who knows knows the reason why he was sick and Freddy only found out afterwards the diagnosis which was sad for him and everyone around him
Queen has all the greatest sports songs ...we will rock you another one bites the dust we the champions under pressure and more ...their music will be around forever !!!
Freddie Mercury, for money at least, was THE greatest entertainer in my lifetime. I vividly remember hearing when he had passed away. I had just met my then girlfriend's parents for the first time that weekend and it had gone very well. My girlfriend and I were on our way back to Liverpool where we were both at university and we were cheerfully going over the weekend and how it had gone so well when it was announced on the radio that Freddie had died earlier that day. The rest of the journey was driven in silence. When we parked outside the house I shared with some mates, it was clear we had both been crying. We got out and hugged for what seemed like 10 minutes. The world was a bit sadder that day. RIP Freddie.
The second song is Radio Gaga. It is where Lady Gaga took her name. The song is about Freddie's love for radio and all the gaga and baba people were talking about the demise of radio with the newfound popularity of music television.
@philhallbrook7008 You should let Roger Taylor know because it looks like he's not even aware of that. “That’s part of what the song’s about, really,” said Taylor. “The fact that they [music videos] seem to be taking over almost from the aural side, the visual side seems to be almost more important.”
@abdab7 @philhallbrook7008 you're both correct tho? written by Roger about radio glory days being replaced by visual with title/chorus inspired by Felix Taylor as a toddler saying radio caca (caca = poop in French, Felix was raised bilingual). Roger had mostly 2 categories of songs: rock n roll lifestyle inspired and nostalgia inspired lol A bit more political/social commentary with solo stuff later.
don't be embarrassed the amount of people who have sang we will rock you and we are the champions at countless sporting events without knowing its queen is incredible :) great reaction as always
If Bohemian Rhapsody "the movie" said that then treat it with great scepticism. I certainly did. Loads of things in the movie weren't accurate, in fact they were downright lies. I enjoyed the movie a lot as a movie, and I thought the cast were all brilliant, but as a Queen and especially a Freddie fan since 1975 it was no documentary. Of course it wasn't because it was never meant to be!
I can honestly say I was ther that day! right in front of the mixing desk - what a great day and so many other bands showing their worth and solo artists like Phil Collins giving their all. Now I am 71yrs of age and this fondly makes me remember my 'youth' and when music WAS music and how it brought us all together - great reaction by the way!
I think part of what makes Freddie Mercury so compelling to watch is that he appears to be having the time of his LIFE up on stage! And the fun he's having and his enthusiasm are contagious!

Hi Knox, thank you for sharing your first time watch of Queen's set at Live Aid. Your reaction when you realized they were singing "We Will Rock You" was priceless and so genuine. And a huge thank you for introducing Queen to hopefully a new legion of fans.
Seems like every day, more and more RUclipsrs are checking out Queen's Live Aid performance. This is why they will live forever. Because everyone will see this for years to come. "Moments in Time", as they're called.
I have watched this performance thousands of times since I fell in love with Freddie Mercury and Queen back in 2018 after seeing the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. It never gets old. I watch the original performance or reaction videos every single day and I think this performance is absolutely stunning.! Sheer perfection. Run, don’t walk on over to watch their Wembley 86 full concert performance. It is 🔥 you will really enjoy it. Great reaction. Probably one of the best ones I’ve seen. You picked up on all of the small nuances, including the guy standing off stage with the best seat in the house and the acknowledgment of the audience during we are the champions. I can see you really appreciate the quality of this band. I grew up on hip-hop and R&B, but once I fell in love with Queen, it is hard to go back for me because the difference in quality is so glaring to me now. I still listen to it, but when I want the best, I come watch Queen at live aid.
David Bowie was just off to the side of the backstage watching . He was heard to say after Queen had finished . " They just stole the whole damn show. How can I go on after that " ? ! The Fellow that you pointed out standing with his arms folded just off stage to the right of Freddie, was Jim Hutton. Freddie's Male companion / Lover. He and Mary Austin were Freddie's best friends in the world. He loved both dearly. It was Mary and Jim Hutton who helped Freddie through some emotional times in his life . There has never been since , and I doubt will ever be again the likes of Freddie Mercury. He was a TRUE showman in the classic sense , and by every definition of the word. The type of performer that one rarely sees anymore. RIP Freddie.. You and the Boys in Queen were the most trailblazing , musically influential band in the history of music, and you all have earned every damn letter in the word GENIUS !
I really like how you call out things you see and hear and feel. I've watched this Queen performance numerous times, beginning when it was originally aired in 1983! It's an unbeatable show and you helped make it fun yet again.
Songs in order of appearance (Sorry if someone else commented this before me) -Bohemian Rhapsody -Radio Gaga -Ay-Oh (The warm-up singing that he does) -Hammer to fall -Crazy little thing called love -We Will Rock You -We are the Champions
It was one of the largest broadcasts of all time; an estimated audience of 1.9 billion, in 150 nations watched the live broadcast, nearly 40 per cent of the world population - and Freddie & Queen had every member of that audience hanging on every note.
Three of the four wrote the songs you heard here, and they rehearsed for a week, Fred was just the same in rehearsals it's not something just for the concert, the amount of people who say never heard Queen before, you'd need to have been living under a rock, might not know what band it was but you'll have heard their songs in films, TV adverts, even used in TV programmes. The four also work by eye, so everything is absolutely timed for this performance, as they had just 20 minutes and this isn't even a Queen crowd, they were a last minute group taking part after tickets had been sold. I would suggest going onto the official Queen RUclips and watching a few interviews and documentations, and you'll hear how they got together, Fred actually joined Roger and Sir Brian in their group at university in 1969. You have four highly successful and intelligent people all with university degrees, they built their own Amps, designed own lighting rig, built own guitar, designed Queen logo etc, it's certainly not Fred and the other three, in his own words he was just the lead singer and not the leader
My friend it will be 40 years next July since the greatest performance by a band everI was young then and an old man now. Freddie never made our journey....He was , as you rightly said "taken too early!". Thanks for this iconic video and your positive comments. Freddie Mercury R.I.P 🌷🌷
This was such a technical masterpiece. A huge live performance with acts in multiple countries and satellite feeds across the world and being shown live to pretty much every country. It was the biggest thing on TV globally in 1985! Well over a billion people watched. Today this band and this performance is remembered as the greatest 20 minutes of a show that was the greatest show ever. Other acts gave the performances of their careers on a global stage but those performances didn’t come close to this. Undeniably the greatest performance of that occasion and possibly the greatest live performance ever. No flashy screens, no pyrotechnics, nothing but pure talent.
The audience at Wembley stadium was 72,000 people, with another 1.9 *billion* people worldwide watching on live TV. As they walked off stage, they passed by Elton John, who said "congratulations you bastards, you stole the show." The next up on stage was David Bowie, who started by saying "I have to follow *that?"*
1.9 billion was the broadcast coverage estimation, not the viewers estimation BBC quote "It was one of the largest-scale satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time with an estimated 400 million viewers, across 60 countries"
Be not ashamed you magnificent musician. I was raised on rock; Queen is my all time favorite band, and even I didn’t know at first, how many songs I loved were theirs.
Love your reactions. I have the same vibes! He had to be the Greatest Of All Time. Absolutely no one even comes close. What I would give to go back in time to see him concert! I loved your Bohemian Rhapsody break down on a previous show you did. I never knew what the song meant, but I loved it! Wow! I agree with so much of your assessment of it's meaning. Freddy was so conflicted with his sexual orientation that it was therapy to put a masterpiece of his life in song. What an incredible journey. I feel the shooting of the man actually by his mother symbolizes that the rejection of his lifestyle from those who he loved dearly killed him on the inside. But towards the end of Bohemian Rhapsody he comes to peace with his life. He accepts himself and let the marbles fall as they will. His judgment by family, fans or religion mean nothing because he has to be true to himself. We love you Freddy. You left us way to soon. ❤️
Thank you Knox for the reaction, And one year later on august 9th in 1986 at Knebworth it was the last time he would sing live - in front of 200.000 people -, and one of the saddest times in music history The greatest frontman ever stopped singing. Much love from Greece stay healthy and safe brother.
He didn't stop singing he stopped touring and doing live performances. Remember Freddie wasn't diagnosed until 87, he was feeling tired and just did studio work.
@@nancyblumberg4612 yeap that is why i said it was the last time he would sing live - in front of 200.000 people. this part The greatest frontman ever stopped singing is talking about him as a frontman which means again singing live with the band.
As, Elton John stated: 'You guys took this show. You bastards, you stole the show!' Perfect words from a master himself. Queen is incredible. Your reaction was so well done. Hearing the crowd, watching their behaviors & watching Freddie himself. One of the best shows in history.

@@robynhurley5119 I believe most people know Queen, their songs are either always played on parties or any match like football, or any arena. Queen is also the only 70s or 80s band that has a spot on the top 100 most streamed songs of all time along with other modern artists.
They weren’t even scheduled to be part of the show till last minute. They weren’t on the ticket. Most of the audience came for all the other artists but knew who QUEEN was and were fans anyway.
That's true for all artists. Geldof announced live aid with a list of gigs before anyone had confirmed, Queen was included on this list, just as all others.
It's one thing to be a great studio artist, rocking the world with a breathtaking live performance is epic. Considering the true story behind it, bringing Queen back to life for this event in a very short space of time is incredible - ay-oh!

I was there that day in 1985 as a 15yr old pop music lover... I left that day as a convert to rock music, thanks mainly to Freddie & Co... You need to remember that this was NOT a Queen concert or even a Queen audience, in fact they were a last minute addition to the line up.

“And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time, because they could connect with an audience.”

Roger Taylor (drummer) has said in interviews, his toddler wandered into the room and said “Radio Caca” and Roger was like …that’s funny…hm
So they kinda went off that, but Freddie also had a deep affinity for actual radios, because this was right around when MTV was starting to “kill the radio star”.
Crazy Little thing called love is a tribute to Elvis, written by Freddie in his bathtub in under 10'

This ☝🏻
Omg yes... that was so amazing
Also the donations where slowing down by that time and when Queen went on stage the starting ringing off the hook with donations.
And also, they had such a small timeslot that they jammed packed with everything that you could want from Queen.
Yes!!!!!
No one commands a crowd like Freddie ❤❤❤❤
I’m 40. It blows my mind when I hear people saying they don’t know Queen. Everyone needs to know Queen. ;)

TRIVIA:
At 2:22 Freddie was blowing a kiss to his Mom, who was watching the live show on TV at home.
At 10:21 According to Brian May, Freddie’s “AY-OH” call-and-repeat w the crowd… was NOT planned! (At least, the other band members did NOT know it was going to happen.) When Freddie sang that first “Ay-Oh!”… Brian said he was at the back of the stage (he was doing something w his back to the audience) and he just thought to himself: “Oh, so we’re doing THAT, now, are we?!?”😳😄
At 16:30 In EVERY live show, at some point Freddie would always “give a backside bow” to the crowd as an “EFF YOU” to the guy about whom Fred wrote the savage diss song:
“Death On Two Legs”.
At 18:00, 19:00, and 20:28 While performing “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, Brian May always changed guitars THREE times: 1) Acoustic 2) Stratocaster (borrowed from Bass player John Deacon) and 3) Brian’s Red Special.
(Brian’s so smoooth, most people NEVER notice!)
BONUS:
23:02 “Oh my God, I’m an IDIOT”😁
26:25 “Oh sh___t, I shouldn’t even publish this video”😜
29:27 YOU NOTICED THE LIGHT CHANGE AT THE END!
(NO ONE ever notices that the red “stop” light comes on EXACTLY at the same moment that Fred’s arm comes down… That’s just how PERFECTLY the band had practiced their timing.)
29:45 You also noticed that Freddie would make a point of highlighting the other band members during their solos.🥰

People need to stop saying this because it is not true. Queen was one of the bands mentioned in the original announcement by Bob Geldof. Queen hadn’t agreed to do the concert yet but neither did half of the bands Geldof rattled off.
@@nocalsteve Yes!!!
Mega!!!!
Easily one of if not the GREATEST live performances in music history!
This, and Prince Superbowl halftime show are right up there at the top of greatest music performance on TV.
@@Ed7501couldn’t agree more. Both legendary performances
It’s so good it always makes me cry.
10:15 the best thing someone asked freddy: "do you play anny instrument?" Freddy: "Darling i play the audiense" Legend
What also made this extra extra magical, the audiences were fully engaged, no phone no cameras no selfies. Love Queen
❤
The power of Queen is stunning. Check out the crowd at a Green Day concert when the audience sings Bohemian Rhapsody. It's mind-boggling.
There is one other singer who sounds like Freddie called Marc Martel probably the only person I would like to see front queen tbh
No truer words said. And I'm so proud that Freddie is instilled in my children and still children around the world hear him and love him !! Therefore he still lives in people's hearts 💕
"So don't become some background noise, a backdrop for the girls and boys who just don't know and just don't care and just complain when you're not there"

Your facial expression when you recognized "We are the champions" is priceless!
Yes, I was waiting for that because I was sure he would recognize it. Priceless. 😁
I was just about to move on to another reactor when I saw your comment. Now I'm staying to see his reaction! Lol
His surprised expressions are half the reason I watch reactions.
Especially as we knew this was going to be the expression having seen the reaction to "we will rock you" and knowing "we are the champions" would be the next song.
He was sick during this performance. Doctors advised against him performing. Freddie being Freddie, ignored them and put on the show of his life
I think everyone who knows knows the reason why he was sick and Freddy only found out afterwards the diagnosis which was sad for him and everyone around him
@@ligerzero515 I was sad during the first part of br those lyrics are heart breaking
Sorry mate, but Radio Gaga is a Roger Taylor song, and his young son's baby talk was the inspiration I think you'll find

That kiss to the camera @2:24 mins was meant for his mother... it's stated on the film Bohemian Rhapsody 💜🇬🇧
Your astonishment is priceless. More Queen please.
“How many hits do they have?”
A: All of them 😎
Love your realization of how huge these guys were. I was lucky enough to live it and man do I miss him.
I think part of what makes Freddie Mercury so compelling to watch is that he appears to be having the time of his LIFE up on stage! And the fun he's having and his enthusiasm are contagious!
At this point he knew he had aids and was sick with a bacterial infection. He thought it may have been his last chance to be on stage and he owned it.

Queen having played to crowds in excess of 100,000 knew how to control/play the audience. Every song was written with fans in mind. Another little song you will have heard "Another one Bites the Dust ". Queen also did the soundtrack to Flash Gordon. They also performed all the songs for the soundtrack to the 1986 Highlander movie which included Who Wants To Live Forever.

I love the crowd so much. No smartphone in sight. The good old days... Queen is amazing
I really like how you call out things you see and hear and feel. I've watched this Queen performance numerous times, beginning when it was originally aired in 1983! It's an unbeatable show and you helped make it fun yet again.

THE MOST HILARIOUS IS YOUR REACTION to We Will Rock You and We Are The Champion 😂😂😂 The way your smile vanish as the realization hits 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I watched this live from America. Bands played non-stop all over the world to benefit AIDS.
Maybe you’re thinking of the Freddie Mercury Tribute 1:36 😢concert after his death in 1991 it LiveAid was to help starving people in Ethiopia. In 1985
1.9 billion was the broadcast coverage estimation, not the viewers estimation
BBC quote "It was one of the largest-scale satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time with an estimated 400 million viewers, across 60 countries"
Bowie followed up with a hell of a set of his own.
I watched this from Australia. Sat up all night with lots of coffee. Wonderful @

Be not ashamed you magnificent musician. I was raised on rock; Queen is my all time favorite band, and even I didn’t know at first, how many songs I loved were theirs.
I am envious of all the people in this crowd.. Imagine witnessing some of the greatest artists of all time in one show. ❤
