    Hi...I'm very new to paper quiling, in fact never attempted it. I recently bought an initial kit and I tried my hand at it today and it was a complete disaster. I couldn't work the paper to do the outline. The glue wouldn't hold the paper on the line. The paper that came with the kit, I think, is 5mm, but not sure. Would the size of the paper matter? I also tried to make some leaves using a pointed tool, but when I pulled it off it wouldn't unwind. Could this also be from the paper? I'm starting to think my fingers are to big..lol. Can you tell me if paper size makes a difference and why my curls don't unwind? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank

      I've never used a kit so I can't speak to the quality of the paper, but some brands are not as heavy as others and that can affect the way the coils unravel. Before you invest in new paper though, I would try letting the coils unravel on a really smooth surface like a piece of wax or parchment paper. Even just placing the coils on a textured surface can stop the uncoiling. But bear in mind that coils don't have to unravel very much to get the effect. I wouldn't recommend worrying about on-edge or making outlines as one of your first projects, but I do have videos on doing that technique that may help. As far as the width of your paper, 5mm is just a but wider than what I'm using in this video but that won't affect your coils or shapes. And I'm sure your fingers are just fine 🙂 I have larger than average hands so don't let that worry stop you! I hope this helps!

    Have you tried some oil pastels for adding a bit of color?

    • @ThePaperyCraftery
      @ThePaperyCraftery  Год назад

      Oil pastels may work for quilling shapes made with tight coils, but may crumble a bit or leave little bits behind. I have had success with watercolor paints, water based markers (or permanent markers for adding details), or dust from soft pastels. If you try oil pastels, let me know how it turns out!

    Hi I have a Question, what paper do you use for your background? I use cardstock but as soon as I start putting glue on it starts bending from getting wet from the glue. I am not sure what to do.

      I use mat board. Much thicker than card stock and I don't have a problem with warping. I buy mine precut on Amazon. I hope that helps!

    Hi thank you for the video, as always very informative and easy to follow. Can you please recommend the spray or dab on sealant suitable as you suggested. Thank, looking forward for your next video.

    • @ThePaperyCraftery

      Like I mentioned, I didn't try to seal mine so I can't guarantee the results depending on what you use to color your flower petals, but whenever I get a sealant question I always send people to Honey's Quilling site because they've done tons of research on different types and products. You can find all that info here 👉 www.honeysquilling.com/category/sealant/
