I haven't found a need to water my Elmer's but I do have a video where I mixed my Elmer's with some vinegar to make my flower petals more moldable. I'm guessing you mean using soft or chalk pastels for adding color? That can work on quilling made of tight coils like the ones on this crocus video 👉ruclips.net/video/NI3gx20MeDU/видео.html Open coil shapes like these petals would get a little bent up with pastels.

The paint is totally optional. But watercolor is one of my first loves and I like to show as much new techniques as I can 😁
