One of the signs of a great composer is that the song is equally good (or better) when it's been pared down to the bare basics of guitar and vocals. Of course, it helps if you have a great musician on the guitar and one of the greatest voices ever singing. Three side notes about crying to Nightwish songs: First, I'm a cynical old man but I often shed a tear to Nightwish songs. Second, I read a review by a Finnish journalist who had listened to the album at the press viewing back in february deep in the Finnish forests. His conclusion was that the entire album was a masterpiece and that he cried like a baby after many of the songs. Finally, I was typing as I was listening. Then Floor turned on the afterburners at 3.50 and I could no longer see the keyboard through the tears, so I had to wait a few minutes until I could finish my comment. That woman is a miracle. Tuomas is a true miracleworker.

@@TheVigiIante No, I don’t agree :). But I wholly understand why some metal fans, or Nightwish fans, or even ”general good music” fans don’t like it. There are no ”hits” on this album. I hated Harvest at the first listen. I still don’t like to listen to it, but after listening the whole album I totally understand its place on the track list.
The solo album was good with most parts. More mellow. Some great music in it. But I didn’t like the excessive use of spoken word. And it was repetive. But if you mean with the comparison the second part of this album... well. The solo album was better. There are lots of similarities.
But if we are talking about the whole album, this is great. It is not easy. Or poppy. Or might not even be progressive enough for some. But the last album that made the same kind of affect on me was released in 1995 (I did remember the year wrong afterall in my first comment).
And the 1995 album wasn’t a metal album :). And Nightwish as band didn’t even exist back then. Totally different genre(s). And it still is a masterpiece after all these years. I’ll hope this Nightwish album will too.

We see a mother with no child
We meet a stranger poor, exiled
How's the heart while it still beats?
    Asks a no-one
    Another John Doe
Sorrow hides well in your shell
A fellow man with hurt to spare
    Dear one,
Here I am to share the fear
    An act of kindness
    Without an amen
    How's the heart
    Underneath the silence?
    How's the one
    Drowning in the mire?
Let us sound a human paean
    Come in, the fire's warm
Burn the rope and dance some more
We met where the cliff greets the sea
Shared a story, took the leap
Rose up rooted, hid a note
    You know where
    You've been there
Now there's one who came from me
A child of light, another tale
    Dear one,
Night will come but not to stay
    Why?
    The answer's in the
    Fair winds my love
    Fly towards the calm
    Fly utterly lost
    Towards a beating heart
    How is that heart
    Underneath the silence?
    How is the one

The concept of "supergroups" is an old one. You get a couple of talented musicians from various groups, usually bored with their current status and, sometimes, with egos aching to get away from the "little people", so they talk to their equally "suffering" buddies and say "hey, we should team up and make something together"...and it seldom actually works out.
Then sometimes you get a perfect storm, a lightning-in-a-bottle, a mad scientist's secret formula come to fruition. Maybe it just happens, maybe it takes a struggle to achieve, but to have SIX wonderfully talented musicians in a single group able to work together and compliment each other to create such wonderful and powerful pieces of art...DON'T CHANGE A F***ING THING!!!

Wild Card is hard to sing because it uses many vocal colours, up to an including distortion, fry screaming and false cord screaming, but it doesn't have the hyper complex staccato phrasing and *shifting* staccato phrasing at that. It doesn't have the sudden phrase to phrase register leaps (in Wild Card the register changes and timbre changes are generally section to section or line to line, not phrase to phrase), it doesn't use dynamic phrase to phrase changes in degree of cord closure and larynx position, and it doesn't feature as technically demanding an opera part as Shoemaker contains.
In a sense, Wild Card was designed specifically to play to Floor's existing strengths, whereas Human Nature has Floor doing many highly technically demanding things she *hasn't* done much of previously. I remember this being released 2 years ago and me loving it but I wasn't expecting them to actually perform this version live. They did and I had tears in my eyes, it was an experience. ❤️ Fantastic song.

We see a mother with no child
We meet a stranger poor, exiled
How’s the heart while it still beats?
    Asks a no-one
    Another John Doe
Sorrow hides well in your shell
A fellow man with hurt to spare
    Dear one,
Here I am to share the fear
    An act of kindness
    Without an amen
    How’s the heart
    Underneath the silence?
    How’s the one
    Drowning in the mire?
Let us sound a human paean
    Come in, the fire’s warm
Burn the rope and dance some more
We met where the cliff greets the sea
Shared a story, took the leap
Rose up rooted, hid a note
    You know where
    You’ve been there
Now there’s one who came from me
A child of light, another tale
    Dear one,
Night will come but not to stay
    Why?
    The answer’s in the
    Fair winds my love
    Fly towards the calm
    Fly utterly lost
    Towards a beating heart
    How is that heart
    Underneath the silence?
    How is the one
    Drowning in the mire?
Let us sound a human paean
Come on in, the fire’s warm
Dull the blade and dance some more

This song (the whole album to tell the truth) makes me feel unexplainable things and after knowing Tuomas wrote the second verse of the song specifically for and about Floor, it became even more special and very heartwarming, I truly feel embraced everytime I hear it. Everyone stay safe and share all the love you can ❤

What an incredible song, the softness of Floor's voice is immeasurably beautiful. Thanks for that masterpiece Tuomas and Floor Jansen and the whole band

It's going out of control. I fear that this universe won't be able to handle one more performance like this.

    Beautiful!
I think Troy and Flor are the final pieces that make Nightwish complete!
    Very good musicians!
