Thomas, I couldn't figure out the mct oil problem. The first time I took mct oil, I used the recommended scoop. I'd been serious about keto for months at that point. I was LIT UP. I didn't understand. I was jittery, wired, needing to move. So the next day, I took 1/2 a scoop, never knowing that my reaction was good. I even asked people, recently, in different keto groups, but no one claimed to understand my reaction. Thank you. I've also been driving myself crazy trying to understand why my bg is way higher than before, but my A1c is still 6.5. Now I do. I eat almost 0 carbs, allowing a few from liver, bacon, and avocado. When I don't eat, my numbers are 140-160mg/dL but after I eat, I'm down to 110-130mg/dL. Thank you. I was wondering why my ketones were always 0.5-0.7 most of my day. Now I know. I'm DEFINITELY fat adapted. 😅🤣
GREAT explanation. As much as I know about keto/carnivore/fasting, I never really knew that about the keto sticks not registering as a sign you’re fat adapted. I’m on day 7 of a 40-day water fast. Day was fine, day 2-3 were hard, days 4-5 got my energy and then some back, day 6 I was feeling like a boss.
Thank you so much!! That's the video I needed🙏. There's so many questions I couldn't answer, for instance, about the levels of glucose. I'm on strict Keto and OMAD from August, and I couldn't understand why my glucose suddenly went up, I was scared 😣. Thanks for the information.
I tried diets like this several times. Each time I lost a lot of fat, but I also lost muscle and definitely negatively effected my cardio and strength.

This is a great insight into gauging how keto adapted your body really is. I ticked 5 boxes. The only one I couldn’t answer was MCT oil. I stopped using it as didn’t seem to do much. May time to use it again. Like youI had been a little concerned my blood glucose had risen, I put it down to reduction of insulin spikes and post meal over driving glucose into cells.

I'm 235 pounds 6'1 height, a good amount of muscle but im 25% fat due to a dirty bulk. but for me, it is amazing I always had a MASSIVE appetite now I'm ok without food.
The information about the urine strips was very helpful. I was a bit frustrated as to why they only show a 'trace' of ketones. Happy to know this is normal due to being fat adapted. Thanks.
I’ve been carnivore for 9 months, the last 3 months -dropping oxalates(with ALL the symptoms), my concern is: severe anxiety/depression suddenly appearing! I’ve never had a high anxiety depression ! My insides were jittery. I tried to exercise, got tired- thoughts got alarming ! Dr google, suggested that brain wasn’t fat adapted…..I checked vitals, I’d dropped a lb a day(so what ! -when I feel close to tears). My oxygen sat. Was 85%! I usually was 99% ! I was so miserable, wanted to drink vodka-anything to stop the blackness. Finally I decided to eat something….had no appetite- so I pretend I’m cooking for someone else - and usually partway thru cooking my appetite appears. So a roast beef sandwich with two slices of bread a dollop oh mayo, followed by apple slices. I’ve regained that weight, but my head is better ! So now what ? I’m 74, no gall bladder, cardiac stents twice, with arthritis/inflammation from my last motorcycle accident. I was very vegetarian since childhood . So avocados, white rice, and soaked rolled oats might be the least damaging items to add ?….. or …….I take only blood pressure meds- which I’m weaning down, stopped everything Rx, using various citrates (Mg, Ca, K) ……..40 years ago I was given psych meds- terrible experience-won’t use them! I’d appreciate your thoughts here, thanks ! 🙏
Everyone watching this should look into Operation Underground Railroad because I was so amazed to see a company donating to this cause. It touches my heart and I will buy it simply knowing thats where their intentions are put🙏

Only carbs are maybe a Banana once every few days or once per week for potassium I believe stops the pain in organs experienced without Banana. Each day Supergreens Powder/Pea protein/Hemp Protein. Also daily supplements for fasting. Coconut Milk powder in Coffee. Hovering around 12.5 13 stone weight wise. I'm on the fat track rather than carb track. Maybe a person's still adapting here;) Good Film Great seeing you. Top lesson. From Craig.
Never tried with MCT oil, but does the same rule apply with butter? At least butter coffee is really energizing for me, compared to regular coffee even.
As for the last one (peripheral IR) if blood glucose goes up, and fats are in the blood as well, doesn't the excess sugar damage the LDL receptors and causes the liver to reject the LDL from returning to the liver, which in turn causes the LDL to become plaque in the arteries?
Thanks Thomas. I have been on Keto for 5 years, no cheating, feel great. The granola has 7 carbs, sounds high??? Sure would like to try this as a cereal with heavy whipping cream. Hope you and your family are doing well. SORRY to hear You Tube is being difficult, I sure like them a lot. Hope it all works out. T
.. from what ive learns is that there are three types of ketones.. acetate, acetoacetate and beta-hydroxybuterate.. am told strips are only measuring the acetoacetate (dietary fat).. the acetoacetate transitions in to beta-hydroxybuterate ones fat adapates which may also be the reason why the strips do no detect it..
OMG THOMAS!!! I just came back from urine test strips and i was so up]set that it was blank..also be cause i have not had carbs since the last test...and here you are... I've been doing keto for about 3 months now and I think I've plateaued a little bit. I do anywhere from 16-20hr fasts daily and usually eat once a day a high fat meal and snack on peanut butter or almonds or something. (my schedule is pretty hectic). I usually stick to foods that are less than 5g carbs a serving (usually try for 3x fat to carbs or more). I don't crave carbs at all and I drink a ton water and black coffee. keto has become easy for me at this point but my weight has basically stayed the same the last few weeks. Am I not eating enough and that's why the weight loss has slowed? Or is it just my body finally adapted to the ketosis and just part of the process?
When in plateau I tend to cut fat a bit and focus on hitting my protein and that helps. If you've got fat to burn for fuel you don't need as much fat to keep feeling good. Hope that helps.
My brain loves MCT oil and quite often will be within 5 minutes of taking it. Go from brain fog and feeling largic 2 very clear thinking with plenty of energy. All it takes is one tablespoon for me.
I tried regular keto and didn't find much success. I had to dial it down to carnivore to start losing weight. Dr Ken Berry's channel is an excellent source of information on that.
Same! Traditional keto works great for a lot people but some people are so sensitive to carbs and inflammation that they need to go carnivore to see results
Thomas, I'm not sure I am fat adapted, been on keto for 6 weeks and added IF actually the 2nd week because it felt right. I started out at 186 at 5' 10" so I'm not like the others here who lost 100 lbs+. Some may even ask why I needed to go on it in the 1st place. I went on it because I'm 55 and addicted to carbs. Before keto I could scarf down several pancakes at breakfast without thought and maybe 30 minutes later start raiding the cupboards for trail mix or granola bars (thinking it's healthy eating right). And at 186, that is close to my all-time high of 193 I set when I was 32. I didn't want to keep subtly gaining a pound here and a pound there and find out one day I'm 200 lbs. So that's why I'm on keto and after 6 weeks, I'm down to 174 with a goal of 165. Do I crave carbs? No, but my mouth waters a bit when I see cake in the store. I will say this, I have to take it easy on the substitute sweeteners like monk fruit because they are too sweet for me. Instead of one packet in my coffee, I use half. I drink Le Croix and if I drink a diet coke, I have to look at the can for a moment because it's too sweet to be diet coke. So I don't drink too many of those - maybe 1 a day. Keep up the good work! I'm an engineer by trade so I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to science and the way you cover things is very intriguing. I'm trying to get my wife to think about keto but so far she has her defenses up. I was hoping I would be the proof. Maybe if I lose a few more pounds. It would make meal prep far easier if she were on it with me.
Not really sure what's going on with the urine strips. I tend to have a range from Trace to Moderate. I'm not even sure I'm doing this correctly, tbh. Do I do the keto coffee in the morning, or do I do the fat bomb shakes? Do I use real butter or ghee? These are things I am asking myself from time to time.
Very interesting topics today....cutting edge and right on target for the right information at the right time. I was curious about the dynamics of fat adaptation and how to look at urine test strips from a useful perspective. I also like your take on when to use MCT oil....that fat adaptation needs to have occurred and that fat metabolizing enzymes need to be present. I am curious about the term metabolic fitness and how quickly one can shift between using either MCT oil for energy or carbohydrates in large amounts for energy. Where is the balance between physical activity, the depletion of glucose stores and reinitiating whatever biochemical pathway necessary to use whatever you have available for energy...glucose ketones etc. Great stuff, keep it up and thanks for the information.
Yay! I’m finally fat adapted. Ive been on keto almost 3 months and I am IMing 18 hours 2 days a week OMAD and the other days 16 hours with 2 meals I’m losing 1.5 pounds a week on average and have about 25 lbs to go. I’ve lost 21 lbs so far. I’m glad you mentioned the glucose going up. I was a little concerned. It’s been like 100 and now it’s finally like 94 when waking
Sorry, but you might be fooling yourself if you don't think that artificial sweeteners raise insulin. I have read that the pancreas registers them as being hyper-sweet. Like much sweeter than corn syrup. Best to avoid digesting manufactured products.
Ive been fasting for a long time my urine ketones is still very heavy especially after exercise and my blood ketones are also in the optimal zone. How do you explain that ? I don't think that not registering ketones on urine strip is a sign
Anyone have any advice? I was on keto for 2 weeks and on my 15th day I'm registering low ketones. Can you become fat adapted that quickly or have i messed up? I'm quite healthy not fat and pretty active throigh work?
I knew about all the other stuff except the blood glucose issue. I noticed after 2.5 years of intermittent fasting, my glucose levels would be somewhat higher. Freaked me out at first. I used to be able 50 to 60 in a fast, now I'll test and be about 80 to 90 some days
Yeah, blood glucose goes up quite much when im fasted. Its whenni eat carbs that i get a 4.3 blood glucose level, like 5 minutes after the intake. If i dont want it to happen, i gotta eat slower digesting carbs. If i eat fast digesting carbs, id have to mix it with fibers, proteins and fats to make it slower digestion and to have a slower insulin response, because my cells crave the carbs so bad when insulin kicks in that it leaves almost non in the bloodstream. Not sure if its healthy. Is it?
Iono know about the craving carbs part. I just like bread in general, I used to eat whole bread loaves by themselves. I still like bread even if I'm not eating it.
Yes but you will be metabolizing less fat during your feeding window and will most likely be much less fat adapted. You can do a period of ketosis for 10-14 days to become more fat adapted and metabolically flexible
🤯🤯🤯 well ill be damned. I started measuring my glucose as well as my ketone. Everything looked normal in the beginning. Glucose low and ketone high. Then I saw a reversal of the two. I though for sure something I was doing was wrong and stopped for a while. I may have to start again and keep detailed records of my blood levels. When should I start to see this transition? 1 week, 2 weeks,4weeks?
I dont know if its because I'm on the Autism spectrum or not. My brain doesn't feel lit up. But I do notice when I have to much carbs or protein at the wrong time. I feel slower and my treats increase. But I dont feel lit up
On my normal diet my FBG used to be 3.8 ( 68).......now keto friendly, 30 grams carbs after exercise only, my morning FBG is 5.8 (105)....i was freaking out back then when I found out

Why did the bg go up when you are fat adapted? And, isn't it less good?
I haven't adapted to being fat yet but I'm working on it. 😂🤣 (j/k)
🤣🤣
THOM, YOU WORK SUPER HARD DUDE- MUCH RESPECT!
Wow.. I'm so early 🤭🤭
This video is what I need now 🥳🥳
I tried diets like this several times. Each time I lost a lot of fat, but I also lost muscle and definitely negatively effected my cardio and strength.
@@vettevegas1624 I have about a tea spoon of creatine every day. Everybody has a slightly different biochemistry. It just hasn't worked for me and I have tried several times for various lengths of time.
Wow isn't this timely 😁 I started keto 5 days ago, Iv no strips so I was just winging it lol ... I did kero last year for 3 months & lost 20 kg, but over the past 4 months Iv put on 4 kg so it's time hmmmm, Iv lost 3 kg so far mainly water I'd say ...
1/ no strips
2/ yes I went 8 hours today & made myself eat
3/ I'm doing housework like a crazy woman lol
4/ nope not interested in carbs nor sugar 🙌
5/ ? I don't know what the oil is sorry I'm in Australia
6/ yes I'm more awake & thinking much better
7/ I don't have a glucose meter
Thank you, I'd say I'm fat adapted yayy 🙌🙌🙌 thank you very much Thomas 😁
You can get MCT oil at Woolworths! Next to Avocado Oil!
Such great info - thanks! My blood sugar readings started to increase a month or so ago... and it was freaking me out!
OMG That's why the ketone strips don't register ketones! Thank you so much
Ok so listening to this was so good. I answered yes to all questions. (Haven’t tried mct oil on its own to feel that brain power , but I will now) I’m excited about the fact that my glucose was high 100ish after 2 days of a water fast I was so confused. So... thank you 😊 Love the info you share.
Thank you for that explanation. I have some of those symptoms and I was getting worried! Now I know why. 🙂

Perfect this helped me sooo much I know I'm fat adapted! I can go 18 to 20 hrs without eating no problem 👍🏽
Seems like you were a bit in a hurry during the filming lol! All good brother! I know you got that dad life in full swing. Thank you for the content, as always

Omg! I thought i was doing something wrong because the urine strip shows small or no ketones . I'm zero carbs and sugar so there are no carb adjustments to make lol. So glad to find your video
in keto for 5 weeks and sometimes I force myself to get the calories down even if I'm in a deficit 2600 cal/day with 30min fasted cardio a day.
Thanks.
How long was it for you when the kow registering started happening?
@@nibs170 After 3 days on the Keto diet.
4 months passed. Lot of ketones but not getting fat adapted. Is insulin resistance can be reason for that ...
Probably. Heard that a couple more hrs of fasting should do the trick. Ex..if you fast 16h go for 18hrs. Im in same boat.
Everyone watching this should look into Operation Underground Railroad because I was so amazed to see a company donating to this cause. It touches my heart and I will buy it simply knowing thats where their intentions are put🙏
I needed this yesterday XD
Recommendation for night time eating. Pancreas having melatonin receptors, carbs and sugar before bed. Habit formation and breaking addiction and cravings.
Wait question here. You do recommend some carb before bed time? I was having a serious insomnia when doing strict keto. Only after i had small amount but high glycemic food put me knocked out. I was so guilty but that was the only way i could go to sleep on time to wake up for the next day........
@@lillllliiill-r3e PastA coma or carb coma are real lol. When my mind wont calm down for me to sleep i take magnegium supplement earlier in the evening, then valerian root powder in a capsule (most drug stores have it) its super safe. anyways, just one of those, the mag or valerian has always been enough to knock me out. also if youre ingesting any b vitamins(supplements or in food) maybe try to make sure that's in the morning, since B vitamins help your body process food into energy.
@@Yourfriendinendtimes I do take mag aspartate but no noticeable effect although valerian root seems to work a bit..... Still 20g or lower net carb gives me heaaaaavy insomnia. Thanks for an advice tho
Thomas. My goals are to establish reaping benefits of Ketogenic diet.
Top lesson. From Craig.
I’ve noticed on my Fitbit app that my resting heart rate drops, when I’m in keto, down around 48 bpm. A few days on carbs raises it by 10 or more.
Wow, I was wondering why my blood glucose jumped up from 90 to 107 lately. I was staying to worry, but now that I know this, I'm so happy. 😃
I feel like food feeds my emotional hunger more than physical hunger. Sometimes I just eat because I’m bored or before my period comes. 🤷🏻♀️
Don't give into those hormones... 12 weeks of eating well , will put you in control.. long term comfort over short term comfort. Go get it!!
It is so hard as a woman to control cravings on pms .But once we youre used to it you'll be good!
I use C8 MCT powder in my coffee every day, I’m not right without it!
Does that have any calories?

Start making keto meals for her too. No one can complain about food choices if it’s the other one cooking and doing the work
Goin all day with zero hunger👌 like a super power

I've been perpetually in the gray area of gobbledygook yi-men-dee-beh since 1998.
Ive been on keto almost 3 months and I am IMing 18 hours 2 days a week OMAD and the other days 16 hours with 2 meals
I’m losing 1.5 pounds a week on average and have about 25 lbs to go. I’ve lost 21 lbs so far.
I’m glad you mentioned the glucose going up. I was a little concerned. It’s been like 100 and now it’s finally like 94 when waking
Why did the bg go up when you are fat adapted? And, isn't it less good?
Amazing. Tnx for the info thomas
I do OMAD and don't feel hungry. Yes fully adapted 😊

Sorry, but you might be fooling yourself if you don't think that artificial sweeteners raise insulin. I have read that the pancreas registers them as being hyper-sweet. Like much sweeter than corn syrup. Best to avoid digesting manufactured products.
Great video! Thank you!
Ive been fasting for a long time my urine ketones is still very heavy especially after exercise and my blood ketones are also in the optimal zone. How do you explain that ? I don't think that not registering ketones on urine strip is a sign
Are we still burning consumed protein and oil even if we are not fat adapted?
I'm in my third month and this is the first week my average blood glucose started to climb over 100 avarage.
Let me point out the only biggest issue here, your bottom right corner is our bottom left.🤣🤣
Rest of the video top notch 🤠🤠
Anyone have any advice? I was on keto for 2 weeks and on my 15th day I'm registering low ketones. Can you become fat adapted that quickly or have i messed up?
I'm quite healthy not fat and pretty active throigh work?
Thank you Thomas for the video.
Good video! Just one linguistic question: How to do you spell the word you said after "gobbledygook"?
Thanks for the content! 💪
I knew about all the other stuff except the blood glucose issue. I noticed after 2.5 years of intermittent fasting, my glucose levels would be somewhat higher. Freaked me out at first. I used to be able 50 to 60 in a fast, now I'll test and be about 80 to 90 some days
Isn't peripheral insulin resistance a bad thing?
Thanks Thomas great video
Appreciate this video! Thank you 😊
How to know?
Me:2-3 days into water fastin, oh i know or else i would be falling down xD
Can the mct test work with coconut oil too?
Excellent video 👍❤️🎯💥
This is a super important video
But if your urine ketones are negative, how do you know if its because youre not actually in ketosis or if you are truly fat adapted??
Yeah, blood glucose goes up quite much when im fasted. Its whenni eat carbs that i get a 4.3 blood glucose level, like 5 minutes after the intake. If i dont want it to happen, i gotta eat slower digesting carbs. If i eat fast digesting carbs, id have to mix it with fibers, proteins and fats to make it slower digestion and to have a slower insulin response, because my cells crave the carbs so bad when insulin kicks in that it leaves almost non in the bloodstream. Not sure if its healthy. Is it?
How do I stop losing weight on keto? My goal was 175 lbs and I am now approaching 160! More fat and protein? Weight training? What / how?
Iono know about the craving carbs part. I just like bread in general, I used to eat whole bread loaves by themselves. I still like bread even if I'm not eating it.
Why don't we have all these awesome items here in Australia....
Don't do keto but do a lot of fasting...does this video still apply?
Yes but you will be metabolizing less fat during your feeding window and will most likely be much less fat adapted. You can do a period of ketosis for 10-14 days to become more fat adapted and metabolically flexible
I worry that elevated blood glucose is from muscle break down? 🤷♂️
Love your video's...does the granola ship international??🥺
But I dont feel lit up
So I paused on the Nutola to check the macros. 3g of sugar for every 11g of fat? How is that keto, much less "super clean"?
How many kitchens does Thomas have?
Love the shirt.
the b-roll on this channel is like if Eric Andre were the producer
On my normal diet my FBG used to be 3.8 ( 68).......now keto friendly, 30 grams carbs after exercise only, my morning FBG is 5.8 (105)....i was freaking out back then when I found out
Thank you for this. As always very helpful.
