"I miss my dog, and my wife". In that order. Classic.
I'm sure he would have mentioned the wife first if there had been a woman on the side of the road barkin' at cars.
I used to have both, now have neither 😂 still have the bike , though! 😎
How did that go over my head lmao
I only miss my dog.
I'm in a motel in Cape Charles, Virginia as I type this. Heading to Front Royal tomorrow to start the Sky line Drive. The USA is biking heaven! Getting my UK bike out of customs at JFK was a pain, but now I'm on the road. All worth it.
Fort Valley road parallels Skyline, is nice and twisty and is toll free. Beautiful countryside down that way.
Welcome to America. When passing an approaching rider, remember to point 2 fingers down as a proper wave. This indicates, keep the two wheels down and hello fellow rider.
Unless they are on a Trike, then point 3 fingers down. Haven't yet run across anyone on a unicycle. Not sure what to do in that circumstance.
Enjoy. Shipped my bike from the UK to the USA, a few years back (before the plague and shipping prices going through the roof) for a cross country 6 week 11,000 mile 'bimble', including the TAT.
Hope you have (had?) as much fun as I did.
Born and raised Kentucky native here, outside of Ireland and Scotland my home state is the most gorgeous place in the world. Come see it in the fall!!!
Love doing road trips in the USA. I always take the back roads, much more fun and you get to see the real America and not the generic Highways!
People think I'm nuts for riding around northwestern New Jersey - but it is a whole different world out there than you'll see from the NJ Turnpike or the Interstates.
Living in Florida, my wife and I would often head north for our vacations to the mountains. Either each on our own bikes or two up on mine, we would have what we called a “No” vacation; No reservations, No predetermined destinations, No expectations. We would stumble across some of the most beautiful scenery and twisting roads imaginable.
I love those kind of road trips, no real plans just hit the road and see what comes your way 👏👍
I miss my dog.... And my wife.... Good save there Bruce 😂
😉😇
Wow America!! You kept that quiet!! Fantastic Bruce looking forward to the rest 👍
Ha Ha - Quiet?! Oh aye, apart from posting all over my socials and chatting about it on the podcast for months🤣🤦♂️
You’re always away on press launches Chops, you’ve not got time for all this, get back in the garage and get that build done 👏👏👏👏👍
… “oooooh a tank!”… love it! Looks and sounds like you’re having fun… thanks for sharing 😁👍🏼👍🏼
OMG talk about roads, so jealous, talk about an office with a view, enjoy and can't wait for more.
Lovely engine that
Wow, I live in Kentucky and thought about how great it would be if you rode around the roads were I live and now here's the video with you here. I hope you enjoyed your trip when you were here. Wish I road and knew you were here, would like good conversation with you.
I'm an English biker and I have friends in Betsy Layne on the Cumberland Plateau.
We might meet one day, who knows
I have a lovely word for the road less travelled - Shunpiking!
Enjoyed that Brucey! Gold Wing territory that......
Cheers Andy, aye absolutely, the Golding would be incredible on those roads 👏👍
When me and my hubby first went to the US, we went into Wisconsin, Monroe. And there were signs for horse and buggy, but we never saw any. Looks like the Hillbillies have moved state🤣. When we visited Arizona, we drove through a couple of Indian Reservations (Apache and Navajo), and it was the same there with cars just dumped
Great video Bruce. Reminding me of my time when I lived in Georgia. Great roads. You made me smile.. it took you till 8 minutes in on the video to ignore the 55 speed limit .. 🤣
Theres a youtuber I watch who's based somewhere Indiana "Mini Bike Mike's Garage" some of the scenery looks identical to his ride outs!
I hope our "hillbillies" don't get you like they did Ned! BTW Blue grass basically came from GB! I was going to say we have a ton of twisties in Southern Ohio/all of Appalachia, you would miss out if you hit the Interstate to get to Florida. Watch out for logging and coal trucks and you'll have fun. That's not a high end neighborhood with the junk in their yards but that's how the country is around here. If it's a rust out old van it might be an Air B&B for you to stay at!
I'm north jersey I'm going down to Virginia for nine days in May!!. After watching this I'm even more excited. You hit on a point i liked. Riding on a solo trip is the best mental health in the world. I hope you had a great time.
I'm heading down from PA to western North Carolina starting May 1. If I see you, I'll wave! 😄
@@tombiggs4687 enjoy yourself. I wish the timing was right would of bought you lunch and had a chat.
Thanks
Thank you very much Dougie! That’s very generous of you bud 👍🙏
Always bad on holiday when you see that dog that reminds you of yours back home.
Once again, you’ve found some of the best riding roads in the world. That area of West Virginia and Virginia is a hoot! I was riding there in the summer of 2006 on my SV1000S and was happily surprised to see the local road departments out on Friday with their street-sweeper trucks to get the surface prepared for the anticipated weekend riders over the coming weekend. Been awhile since I had tuned in to your channel and it’s great to see you again.🤙
Cheers John, welcome back bud 👍
Great video Bruce. Love the fact that Calimoto is taking you down roads less travelled and showing us roads that we have never seen before. I'm gonna enjoy this road trip boss. Ride safe.
Truly looks like the perfect combo: Those roads and the Triumph. Seams like it can work in its sweet spot all the time while flowing through all those bends, and you know it has plenty left if push comes to shove.
Hell yeah it’s awesome seeing you ride 22 in Kentucky! That’s my stomping grounds! I love riding these back roads!
Loving the first episode of your new Yankee series. Nice to see a different part of the States on a youtube channel. Great to see you just having a ride for your own pleasure too, look forward to the next episode.
Yup you are riding in hog and wing territory with those roads 🤓😎🏍💨💨💨💨💨👍🏻🇨🇦🍻
Top work Bruce. Loving the new branding and top effort on the thumbnail too 👍
Thanks Chris, wish I could take the acclaim but I’ve used a proper company to do both 👍
Lol, familia, familiara, familiar, when you're familiar with something..... Sort of an oldie here currently planning for my CBT and your videos are inspirational, thank you.
Yes please, More.
Can you hear Banjo's? Cracking comment ! Loving this so far.
What a cracking "little" adventure. Proper nice to be loaned a bike for the trip, it gets expensive fast hiring bikes. Can't wait for part 2
Lived in southern Indiana for 7 years. In flatland Chicago now for almost 20 yrs and so ready to leave to the twistys again. Heading down this weekend for the Eclipse.
Another blinder Bruce, those back woods roads are better than our A roads regarding surface quality. A great adventure.
This is fantastic. I can't wait for the Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway.
Thank you for your "hard" work Bruce. 😄
Ha Ha it’s ok Thomas, I’ll suffer for your enjoyment … 😉👍🤣
Luv the thumbnail great empty roads the bike is a belter very capable non GS 😂 liked ye had the Calimoto glitch when ye lost signal be great if they had user message saying use offline maps when it happens 👍 gonae enjoy the series cheers Bruce woohaaaa
Cheers John,
Aye that’s a good idea Re the offline maps message, I’ll pass that on to them 👍
Glad you like the thumbnail too, I’ve just started using someone to do them so it’ll be interesting to see if it has any effect on views etc 👍
First time viewer, found your channel based on a review of calimoto. Looks like you are enjoying the United states. Hope you have a safe trip.
Absolutely stunning place.. love USA and you chatting about tail of the dragon and skyline drive, etc. Wow, that brought back a lot of good memories from my trip..
You're definitely practicing what you preach Bruce. Nice one 👍😊...
Thanks Les, living the dream bud 👍
Good choice staying North, fantastic roads all around. I had the pleasure of The Tail of the Dragon last year on my nearly 3 month long trip. Headed for a campsitre just south of the Tail and en route Google maps had me go a quicker route than I planned. I was riding a fantastic road and thought that if the Tail is as good as this it would be brilliant. Like you, I used my phone for the maps but didn't download them and I hadn't a clue where I was. It wasn't until I passed Deals Gap I realised I had done the Tail!! Oh well, did it the other way the next day on my way to Nashville. I must edit more of that trip. Thanks for your vids. Stay safe and have a blast.
Skyline Drive is amazing!
Enjoy your journey! Looking forward to seeing more of ya touring the USA. Ah...day2 you get to meet the @TheGorillaBiker. Class act that guy!
Loved the tour from Winnipeg to Tennessee and Kentucky. Wish we had more time down there. Nice one Bruce!
As soon as I heard the name Aled wondered if he had Welsh ancestry 😊then I seen the name Aled Morgan 🏴must be a link somewhere, beautiful scenery 👍🏻
As a Brit now living in Connecticut it's very different riding a motorcyle in the U.S. Predominantly not being allowed to lane filter or split. One thing that's nice though is the roads are much quieter in rural U.S than they are in the U.K but so many double yellow lines at least here in New England. Oh and they call it "Passing" not "Overtaking." Stay safe and have fun. Hope the weather holds for you.
A lovely road trip Bruce! Something I've always wanted to do here (as you may know, I live near Seattle now). But with no bike...sob,sob. LOVE the vid! Can't wait for part 2.
The roads certainly look to be in better condition than UK, looking forward to part 2
Great episode Bruce! You're in my happy place. I ride down there once or twice a year from southern Ontario Canada. This series will be epic.
What brilliant roads there!
Lovely roads and scenery Bruce👍. Looking forward to seeing more
Indiana!!!!!
I’m all the way on the other corner by Chicago but still cool to have you over here in my state.
Cool vid. Lucky git😉 Your editing is bang on.
Love the new logo.
Thanks CJ.
Care of the Credit Card bud, worry about paying for it after - anyone can do that 😉👍
Great video Bruce.... enjoyed seeing you rediscover your "joie de vivre" for solo riding and old skool moto vlogging.... Great to also see you riding a Tiger 900 RP... makes a nice change for all us Non GS Wankers. Keep up the good work.
You very nearly started in my back yard and you're on the roads I spend all year on. Hope you have a fantastic time and I can't wait for the next episode.
Sorry to have missed you Todd 👍
Pennsylvania has some nice forest roads ❤ welcome to the states 😊
Triumph?? lol enjoy the roads Bruce. 🏍️
Cracking vid I have a mate who’s been living in Louisville for about 30years he says the roads are fantastic compared to back home. Cheers Bruce man
Teapot. just want to say Thanks, ive been watching your vids and it made me at the age of 48 to take my CBT. really love the 125cc adventure. keep up the great work
That’s fantastic Mark, welcome to the family bud 👏👍
This is great! 🤣 Awesome to have you back in the USA! Hopefully you are reading this comment after having a couple beers and i can convince you to come and ride in Montana and Idaho!
Ha Ha, I don’t need much convincing bud!
Sadly I’m back in the Uk now, I filmed this at the start of March, but I’ll definitely be back over again at some point 👍
We do have one road-nanny state, Maryland. But it doesn't have the best roads anyway. I just need to cross through it to get to the really good Appalachian roads south of it.
The BMW Connected app has its drawbacks, but let me tell you, its twisty road routing is the best I've ever used! I like to pre-plan routes where I can. But sometimes I pick a town 20-40 miles ahead and tell Connected to get me there via the twistiest roads, and it never disappoints. Then I pick another town and repeat. Sometimes in rural areas the wee twisty roads might have too many gravel segments for my taste - but Connected has a gravel roads avoidance feature. Those two features combined, no gravel and twisty routing, are brilliant. It's even discovered some real jewels in areas I thought I already knew pretty well.
Whereas my Zumo XT's "winding road routing" is an absolute joke. Last time I tried it, it intended to take me on major state roads and right through the heart of several decayed industrial cities. No thanks.
Everybody's got to ride da tail udda dragon sometime, just to say they've done it. But I promise you, West Virginia, eastern Kentucky and Tennessee, western North Carolina, and northern Georgia, have a lifetime's worth of equally or more enjoyable roads. (actually the Dragon is virtually unrideable most weekends, clogged with squids and flatlanders trying to prove themselves.)
I guess motorcyclists are spoiled these days by the number of vloggers who post videos on road trips. As such I/we can become complacent/choosy about the ones we watch. Nonetheless, this series has really hit the sweet spot. Keep it up TP.
That’s very kind Bib, glad you’re enjoying it
Brilliant! Been looking forward to this.
Loving it Bruce.
Terrific episode. Fun to see you riding in the states. The banjo comments made me laugh, you were riding through bumpkinland.
Another awesome series on the way, thanks for sharing Bruce! 👍👍
My pleasure bud, glad you’re still enjoying them 👍
Loved this Bruce, give me more you talented old man 😂
I had a night away in Bath / Bristol / Costwolds this week and was congratulating myself for having a great little biking adventure, then I see this! Hope you have a great time.
Never measure your own achievements/experiences against other people bud.
Any time we go somewhere new on the bike, it’s all an adventure. Just make sure you enjoy it 👍👏
Epic vid there Bruce! Keep them coming! Great to see an area of the US being explored that is often overlooked. Definitely think you did the right thing avoiding Florida......way too hot and humid for proper protective bike gear.
What a great bloke to give you his bike. Looking forward to seeing you make the most of it. Excellent first vid.
Aye Aled is a top lad 👍
Up here in New England if a river or stream has a road by it. Take it. Those are usually the best.
another great video, top locations awesome roads. you've definitely made me get out and ride for longer, further and more often (Aberdeenshire). Stay safe
Yep sounds about right “I miss my dog ……… (oh ye better mention the wife too)😁😁😁
Welcome back to the USA! Another great video. Good riding and stay safe.
Thanks Rick, it was great to be back over there 👍
i love the route you doing so far
You lucky person, enjoy
This is so much better than the usual feet up motorway tour! That little known actor Charley Boorman was in Deliverance 😎
Oh Virginia Tennessee Carolina. Best roads on the east coast. Your in the meat of it.
Cheers James, I genuinely loved riding there 👍
You can hear banjos. You can also see the grinding rural poverty.
Man if you had more time there is even better roads in West Virginia and in Southwestern Virginia where I live. I ride a 2002 Goldwing 1800 and I pick the most gnarly twisted roads I can find glad you had fun in the States here.
I have friends who live on the Cumberland plateau, I hope to do the same as you and travel there on a bike one day
It rains a lot in Kentucky, and although I have never been it reminds me of Scotland, which I do visit a lot.
"Complacency kills"
-Angie the ice climber
brill video nice to see more of the USA as for the Tiger think the 1200 rally pro is going to be the next one for me till the next one ride safe
Cool trip 👍
Wow great first vid Bruce I have a 900 rally pro and think it’s great all rounder done France and Spain on it going to the Pyrenees in may on it !!!!! Looking forward to to the series Bruce 👍
This series is going to be awesome can't wait :)
Hope you’re enjoying it then Danny 👍
Living the dream there Bruce. I envy you doing this. Superb🎉
Simple as booking some flights and hiring a bike bud - credit card took the brunt of it and I’ll worry about paying for it later 😉
My calimoto has started saying 'U-turn when possible, bumhole' :)
Wow 🤩 lucky bugger love this made my day and a bonus is you love the last bike I developed for triumph and put my heart and soul into 😎👌❤️
You’ve done a cracking job Lee, it’s a great machine 👏👍
Fantastic stuff Bruce! ! Fantastic quality of content as usual, fair play to you.
I hope you don’t mind me saying but “ride to food” channel is well worth checking out for what America has to offer on two wheels.
Thanks Adam, glad you’re still enjoying it.
Great, thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check it out 👍
Great video Bruce. America does look stunning, would love to do it one day.
Thanks bud, make sure you do it 👍😉
Great 1st Episode Bruce 👏🏻👏🏻 Been looking forward to this series 👍🏻🏍️💨🇺🇸
Not seeing a lot of potholes Bruce not like Glasgow Scotland 🏴
‘Can you hear the banjos?’ 🤣
We rode a very similar trip last year, a lot of the same roads. TN, VA, WV, NC From the Raleigh NC area.
Now you are making me wish I had not part-exed the tiger 🤣
I had mine while working in mainland Europe and took it over to Munich and also to Denmark while working on projects out there. I did return 1 day journeys from both locations 800+ miles each time and will say that getting off the tiger Rally Pro at the end of the day was like getting out of an armchair, so comfortable a ride.
I think if my legs were longer I may have kept it lol
I am awaiting the landing of the Himalayan 450s I may have to get a 2nd bike
Been looking forward to this ever since you put out the call on Patreon. Happy to see you escaped Appalachia without having been captured and forced to add to the gene pool.
I've been riding those Appalachian roads since the 1990s and almost everyone I've encountered down there is friendly and welcoming... unless you bring an attitude. I live in the Northeastern US and I run into far more hostiles up here.
Ha Ha, I concur - the folk were/are incredibly friendly and respectful, I absolutely love it over there.
Genuinely wish my wife was up for moving that way as I’d live there in a heartbeat 👍
Great video, the roads look brilliant. Glad you like Calimoto, I used it for a year but I moved to Scenic and I prefer it. Ride safe!
Aye I’ve had a look at Scenic, I like the social integration but the route planner isn’t as good as Calimoto for me - no other route planner allows you to separate the route into individual legs and tailor each leg depending on how twisty you want it
Brilliant.
Thanks 👍
Very interesting, if only it was like this in the UK, well you can dream
There are some great riding roads here in the UK Regg - Scotland, Wales, Peaks, North East, there’s gems all over 👍
