Lower octane fuels ARE easier to burn tho :D I've outed myself as a nerd to many people now hahahaha.
Finally getting around to watching this whole video, I am watching it, just a bit late!
I agree on the BRP, it's a very easy going ride really designed for cars with families I feel. Cherohala and the tail are excellent and there's another road in to WV, I can't remember the name but its' bloody amazing too. Glad you got to do them!
Calling out the big turks for not being able to drive :D They CAN make it around the corners fine btw, I've done it, the pilots are the issue :P
What was that really twisty road near the end? I want to go there :D
Great job on the editing, enjoyed watching the day back a lot. Thanks again for inviting me out, had an absolute blast! Yer welcome back anytime as well, I usually have a few extra bikes up and running :) Lastly, genuinely great to meet you in person finally amigo :)

Bruce, regarding your cameras dropping forward on the mount, even though they are fully tightened.
I noticed mine had very smooth shiney surfaces between the mating parts on the clamp and camera mount (the sort of prongy fingers bit) so i ruffed up all the surfaces that come into contact with some sandpaper to give a bit of bite and it totally fixed the issue for me.
Hopefully i explained that in a way you'll understand, it's a cheap fix and might be worth a try 👍

Glad you are enjoying the area. I live in Asheville, about a mile from the entrance to see Blue Ridge Parkway. It’s a relaxing ride at 50-55mph. The roads leading up to the Parkway are the real fun ones. Keep the speed limit through the towns and you can go at whatever pace makes you happy. Ice is the reason they close the Parkway. You get water in the tunnels which freezes overnight. I feel lucky to live here.

What a mega change in the weather from the last vid, I bet that was a very welcome thing to wake up to!
Magnificent twiddles at the end there... I assume you didn't get eaten by bears and found fuel?!?! 😀

Looks fantastic, The States has everything. No wonder a lot of Americans never leave the country, they don’t have to. I listened with interest to your comments about not missing the cops. I retired in 2022 after 30 years. Felt exactly the same. Missed the people, not the job or bosses. It was becoming so much more authoritarian and I couldn’t reconcile what was being asked of us with my own moral compass…. Cheers for the great Content pal 👍🏻

Blue Ridge Parkway is just brilliant. I've done sections of it twice, unfortunaly by car with the family. One of these days I'll do it by bike. They are stunning roads and are so much fun. But, at times, you do have to watch out for black bear, elk, deer, mountain lion and other fun creatures. Stunning roads and views, all worth it. Those other roads though ... they are a biker's dream.
    Michael is a top guy.

Bruce, I'm really enjoying your series in the USA. Thanks for making these videos a little bit longer than your usual format.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a great flowing ride and is especially beautiful in the summer or during the Fall colors when the leaves are changing, but I can understand why you enjoyed some of the other roads. Those running up to and down from the Blue Ridge Park are more technical and interesting rides. As others have already said, the portion of the parkway south of Asheville down to Cherokee is the most technical and the most interesting. It also has the highest elevation on the Parkway (about 6,100 feet).
If you have an opportunity to return and ride the Blue Ridge Parkway again, keep in mind that the Parkway is a National Park. If caught for speeding, it is a Federal, not a State-issued, ticket and the fine is hefty.
If you ever return, I would love the opportunity to meet you during your travels!

I'm 8 miles south of the NC/SC state line between Asheville and Greenville so I go play in NC often. The roads are so nice because of the state taxes differential between there and other states. Higher taxes=better roads. Glad you're enjoying your trip. Ride safe.Almost forgot there is a large Scottish community in the grandfather Mountain/Linville area on 221 south of Boone NC.

Don’t worry about lack of curvy roads in the western US - plenty of entertainment. Beartooth Pass, Pacific Hwy in California and many, many more. Butler Maps are outstanding for finding mild to wild routes.

The Blue Ridge Parkway varies from long straight-ish sections to some really fun twisties, which I'm sure you eventually encountered when riding south from Boone. One thing we enjoy about the Parkway is that it almost never throws sudden decreasing-radius turns at you, the pavement quality is uniform throughout. Which is very surprising, considering how it hugs the mountain sides and tops. Super engineering. We love *all* the mountain roads down there, their crazy turns and sheer drop-offs; but the BRP is a different mindset entirely, equally enjoyable in its own way.
Always a sportbike guy, I didn't really understand Harleys until I flew out to Arizona and rented a car. The road goes straight all the way to the horizon, and when you get to the horizon, goes on straight to the next horizon. My CBR1100XX would have been torture out there; a Harley or a GoldWing, perfect.

Eastern TN, SE KY and far West NC cannot disappoint if you pick roads with more than three digits or most County Roads with two digits. There just is no actually bad road surface but lots of them that require you pay attention...and the roads are amazing.
FYI, it is not the desert states with all boring straight roads (though they have them) it is the "breadbasket" which is mostly the great plains. County roads, State Roads, and everything is based off the agricultural "section" or a square 160 acres. All roads are straight unless a watercourse (rare) interrupts.
And you accidentally found my favorite Appalachia road...NC80, Devils Whip!

    • @michaelkrenzer3296

And the Blue Ridge Parkway is dull from a technical standpoint. Often the views suck as well as you are above or in the clouds. It is a must ride but like 37th on my list of great American roads. The 45 mph is enforced if you get caught and it is a federal...not state or local...offence.

Looks fantastic Bruce. A great and 'easy' ride along wonderful views. Nice. Just what you want sometimes. There are a HUGE variety of roads here, I drove from Vegas to LA (a terrible road) and when you crest a mountain road at one point you just see the highway go straight to the horizon! Some of the roads around where I live (outside Seattle) are just like being back in Scotland. Big bodies of water on one side and a nice twisty road banked by steep mountains and trees. 👍 Can't wait to see if you made it to a petrol station!

I would think the roads are winding because of the plenty of hills about on the eastern side of the US. Also, looking back at history, both French and British were there, so making the roads, whereas when heading west, you come across the pararies which are just flat for hundreds of miles, nothing to go round until hitting the Rockies. Your drone shows why there's no straight roads🤣

  • @FxRiderST

BRP is best at the last 100 miles. And there're no fuel stations on it. You must get off to refuel.
One handle on the pump is more convenient than many for each fuel grade. It's just you get a little bit of a fuel grade which left in the hose from the previous driver. Maybe that's the reason in Europe they have separate guns for each grade.

Yean the Parkway is a scenic drive for families to go find a picnic spot with a view. The people that think its a good motorcycle road usually took the interstate to get there. If you had done that you would have been ooh & aahing at every view. But you didn't do that an got to see what else is out there. The Appalachians are covered in motorcycle roads an most riders only see the ones with the best publicist. I live southwest of Chattanooga an I can ride any direction an be in twisty mountain roads all day. But all I ever see is locals off the interstate, other than the occasional hard core Trans America Trail rider as it cuts through here. You could come to Chattanooga for a year an ride every day an not run out of new places to ride. But people dont because they dont explore, They go where someone told them to. Chattanooga's advertising budget targets bicyclists an boaters. My town targets hang gliders. Most mountain towns have no advertising budget. So while they have the roads, they are empty.
