- Young Money is one of the biggest labels of all time. It birthed artists like Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, and more. Founded under Cash Money by Lil Wayne, the rapper mentored and scaled the careers of the biggest rappers of the next generation. But with beef and lawsuits between the artists and Birdman, the label took a sharp downturn and you wouldn't recognize a single new artist that's been recently signed on the label. In this video, we'll discuss the rise and fall of the label and everything in between.
Nobody:
Nicki Minaj every song: young money ❤
Naw fr as she should 😂
That's solid that's what a real one would do any one who ain't a prisoner of the moment and remembers that time nikki blew 1st and stayed up at the top from the beginning bt she still never acted to big or to good to show love and appreciation to the one who put her there drake did not do the same n look at him now
Lil Wayne: Young moolah baby!
Lets face it. Lil' Wayne, Nicky Minaj & Drake were the 3 headed Dragon of Young Money. Besides Tyga, anyone else barely got a look in.
But Jae Mills was nice before Young Money.
@@andrejamison2723 Thats fine but what about during or after YM?
@@Senate300 being with young money is what messed his career up. He has been ghost writing for them ever since
Word to Mack Mayne 😂😂
Curren$y doing very well independently after he left YM and started Jet Life
Wayne was so humble and he wanted everybody to shine more than him
Meanwhile Aubrey Weinstein did the exact opposite

Tyga telling everybody drake was fake from day 1
True💯
facts
Fake at what
Tyga is even more fake though he was raised in a well off family but portrayed a street image and paid the Hoovers in LA to act like he was solid
@@askellpositive don’t be dense
Tyga never got overshadowed. He was huge on the west coast even when Drake and Nicki blew up.
IYKYK
I’m not from the west coast but I agree, Tyga has always had his own wave and that baby face works for him, he still looks 18 so the younger ppl don’t think of him as old.
@@lisag.4054 💯👍🏾
He kinda did why you think his album take forever to come out I'm pretty sure he even spoke about this once.
He was still big but I feel like he could have been bigger if he started at a different label.
I’m lowkey proud of Tyga. I didn’t see him going far but he was consistent, made relationships and got his crown
Dry your lips they are “low key” still wet from Tyga
@@paulflores6406”dick riding” cuz bro happy Tyga ain’t let up?
Wayne is the goat. There would be no Drake and Nicki Minaj without Wayne. He put them on at the height of his career and let them shine. Name an artist Drake did that for

@kapo2012fb FACTZZZZ. LETS NOT FORGET WAYNE INSPIRED MUMMBLE RAP 💀☠️💀☠️💀☠️
It's so tragic how the majority of artist (not just in Young Money) don't get paid and were abandoned as quickly as they were introduced.
If only Drake was like Wayne there would be a lot of great artist from Toronto
The majority of YM wasn't from Louisiana.
You was signed to a n. That was signed to a n. That said he was signed to THAT n
Believe it or not during those Hot Boys days Lil Wayne was not the biggest artist on Cash Money or the superstar. Juvenile was
Juve was…and for good reason because 400 was a blazer…even for a NY’er like myself…but Wayne already was, always was, the young gunna with the most swag out the group…from Bling Bling on…
True n BG as well
Wayne was easily 3rd back then cause BG was that nigga
Curren$y isn’t somewhat active he’s constantly puttin out music.. underrated too
Facts and one of the best in the game!! Spitta never disappoints.
💯
He is the only former member of YM to have independent success
Exactly and I listen to Currensy more than any artist in this video, no disrespect to them
@@DezZ9 real talk!
Saying curren$y is SOMEWHAT active is crazy
I agree, he was and still is active doing it independently
Nicki Minaj is the richest female rapper ! She is the most awarded female artist!
Drake and Nicki are label mates to the rest of YM, It is not their job to "make them hot". Wayne gave them all a spark and they didn't catch fire so the only one to blame is their talent and work ethic. You only get one shot, do not miss your chance....Eminem.
It was heard of. Master P was the 1st to do 85% No limit 15% Priority
Yeah but Priority records is nowhere near the size of Universal
PERIODT ‼️ That’s what I said too. 🎉
@@Kinghulio2333It doesn’t matter. P was STILL the 1st rapper to get an 85% disto deal.
Was it a fall? The major artist became bigger than the label. That’s a W together or not

Y’all are actually tripping right now. Y’all can’t be serious
cash money has sold over a billion records and most of it was before streaming took over. they were they biggest at some point

Drake, Nicki, and Tyga! Are young money. Let’s be real. I’m not saying the other ones weren’t hungry! But those three were hungry. Even Tyga come back was flawless. How much you want it.
Mills had a hot song and a remix before he even signed with Young money

The damage this label did to the genre is crazy.
What damage has Young Money done to the Rap Genre?

Hey man, great video! I want to hear you cover the Nicki and Drake rise a bit more in an upcoming video, especially Nicki. I think she gets overlooked a bit in conversations about who are the most skilled rappers of our time just because she's a woman even when she washed some of the GOATs on their own songs more than once. Her mixtape and feature run leading up to her debut was CRAZY

I wish the images matched the commentary. Like we barely even saw Jae Mills this whole time yet you’ve mentioned him quite a bit.
Good job
Great commentary
Squd up was the first young money artist!!! Kid kid, gudda, Tstreets, and like two other dudes. All those iconic squad up mixtapes was the foundation of young money records.
Supa Blanka, and Ra Dizzy. Downtown and the East.
@@i.m.6758 dizzy, kid kid and Wayne the was the coolest, everybody else held they own tho. These was my teenage years. Thanks for reminding me bro !!!
Bro this video was epic
I think the lesson we can all take from this is that selling music is hard. You could have all the talent in the world and might still struggle to really put yourself out there if the circumstances aren’t perfect. Shanell, Cory Gunz and Euro being perfect examples.
As a NY native, I turned this video off after he said Bedrock was what put Nicki on the map. She was an underground legend bro do alil more research
Yeah mans completely ignored Nicki was actually buzzing before YM. The Gucci Mane days and all that.
Hey I want to thank you, Im halfway through your video and I can already tell you either was there or did some extensive research on how young money came to be and where they are today

it was Lil Wayne that brought Drake into the game, so he better know where he stand.💯
Curren$y is not “somewhat active” he’s one of the most consistent rappers in the game right now
Lil Wayne in Carter III and IV: yOuNg mOnEy cAsH mOnEy!
Curren$y is actually is still doing good after leaving YM and doing good independently on his Jet Life label
They still popping though I wouldn't say it was a downfall they all are still goats especially tyga, Nicki minaj and drake and lil Wayne himself. Their all older but lil Wayne made some legends and did right by his artists unlike how birdman did his artists, plus lil twist and gunna had a
Decent run too. Thoses who kept up got bigger especially the ones who stayed consistent
Good video
Look, they had their run. And it was a good one. Not my era, but give credit where it’s due. And it all starts off with Wayne going solo and dropping consistently until he reached the top. Plus, once he started featuring on other records, it was over from there. Quite impressive when you think about it. Also, with a team like that, I’m sure the other artists, musically, contributed to hooks and/or concepts, probably gave away songs to get the tracks the light they deserved…it happens all the time. In the studio, when there’s the right chemistry, it’s can truly be a team effort, if everyone’s on the same page. And for a minute , they were, that’s why they had their run.
The Nicki disrespect on the comments is crazy. She should have never been in this video.
Yeah Cory Gunz is so raw and a victim of bad timing and circumstances. he woulda been massive in different eras but he also coulda been pretty big in the era he was with YM had he signed somewhere else instead.
Wayne with the MellowHype shirt!
How is Curren$y "somewhat active" with over 25 tapes on DSPs? 😂
The big three is gonna be successful forever no down fall
You got Curren$y effed up but continue….🥾 ⚜️
I agree, he actually has done very well since leaving YM with his independent label Jet Life
When did they fall the internet is just wield
They want them to be fall offs so bad
I don’t hear anything about Drake or Nikki not getting paid or not being happy is this true?
When did they fall ? They all goat
The music was changing, and a lot of people were being left behind, and Drake was the biggest reason for that change, he became a super star with just as big of influence on hiphop as lil wayne and unfortunately the young money roster was just not there yet
Can’t say an artist fell off if they know how to adapt with new music and remaining on charts.
19 minutes of clips is a summarization not a documentary lollll
Nutt Da Kidd was the best out of all of Young Money artist outside of Wayne.
I only know Gutta Gutta from Filnobep 😂😂😂😂
Man this video… First young money the biggest label😂 second Curren$y somewhat active smh. Spitta make more music then all these guys combined. If you don’t know about HIP Hop say that
exactly my dude. curren$y is active and sadly underrated
Jae Millz & Gudda Gudda had so much potential. And so did Shanell, I liked her style & her music was good
Favorite Gudda and Mills song?
@@johnreadstoomuch6927 I remember Jae Millz zone out 2 mixtape back in Summer 09 & the 1st Virgo mixtape was solid. I liked his “Take You Down” & “Birthday xes” flips on those songs. As for Gudda, I remember him from Wayne’s No Ceilings tape. That’s how I was kinda introduced to him
they all definitely should’ve been bigger
Nutt was the best outside of Wayne.
@@johnreadstoomuch6927 I really enjoyed Jae Millz first Virgo mixtape especially his flip to “Take You Down”. Mannn Summer 09 is so nostalgic 😫
I feel like Drake learned business like Wayne and Nicki learned to rap like Wayne
Drake said his name stood for "do right and kill everything" sh#%! he wasn't lying he still out here on the number one charts crazy
Ill never understand the hate certain artist get...
"Welcome to Guddaville" was dope and should've been his debut
Twist sounded too much like Wayne and that handicapped him but his music is solid
You should do a video title " YOUNG MONEY- THE MOST POWERFUL LABEL EVER WITH THE 3 GREATEST RAPPERS EVER!!
Currensy ain’t some what active. He IS active. Independent. Jet Life Records. Mans is SUPER good. Underground KING
Lil twist put Justin on that drank
greatest of all time
To make this video short. If you’re an artist. Don’t sign your life away to any record company. Independent is the way to go, yeah it’s way harder and damn near impossible but if you make it possible, the money is way better than what these companies say they’ll give you. RIP Dolph
That's what Curren$y did when he left and started Jet Life and doing well independently
Wayne didn’t discover, he just attached his name
The worse thing you gonna ever hear about Wayne is somebody wrote a song for him 😂 young money never fell off the label was just a platform and they had a good roster, they just idolized Wayne to the point they lost their identity and sound in the game...the only artists that survived got their own wave...young money can never fall off as far as history though !
[Def Jam has entered the chat]
Young thug is basically Wayne 2.0 like damn I didn't even realize how much they looked alike until I watched this video. I'd be salty too if I was Wayne
Which is why lil Wayne is a top 5 rapper/influencer of rap in history.
Currently managing Lil Wayne’s son Lil Novi, I’d say this is fairly well documented
LITTLE DID HE KNOW JUSTIN BEIBER WAS INDEED A PUPPET 👀👀"👀"👀"👀💯💯💯
It’s like The Avengers but with rappers.
15:51 nicki at least did a feature on a song by shanell
"Blending R&B and RAP in a way that's never been done before" 😂 Drake got his style from Phonte, even he acknowledges that simple fact.
AINT NO FALL ❤ BJ YOUNG
THE SAVIOR
@3:16 STOP 🛑 WHY was having this type of distro deal “unheard of” at the time whn No Limit had ALREADY done it⁉️ 🤷🏽♀️‼️🚫
Great question and thanks for watching. The difference was in size of deal. Birdman modelled his distro deal after Master P and just did it on a larger scale. No Limit signed a deal with Priority Records which opened the door for Cash Money to do the same with Universal - which was simply just a much larger, major record label. Universal is actually the parent company to Priority Records which is where No Limit signed their deal with
and he's still the best and biggest rapper alive
Rumors of shooting Wayne’s tour bus?…it’s not a rumor. Thugs manager was blamed and arrested for it. It happened

dope vid... but when did Drake out rap Rick Ross? Nah... Rosey held it down on their tracks!!
Amazing. What they are doing to Drake now they did to Nicki in 2018. It played out the same too!! Slander and lies to promote hate. Shanell Actually Released Quite A Few Mixtapes In The 2010s
YMCB are in many ways like the 'pop version' of Aftermath Records. Sure, they gave us 3 of the biggest stars of an entire generation (Nicki Minaj, Drake and Lil Wayne), just like Aftermath gave us Eminem, 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar, the former two are two of the 5 biggest stars in hip hop history. But WHO ELSE have they given us?
Exactly, the majority of their signees (Busta Rhymes anyone?) were left to collect dust on the shelf and never got to actually release an album on that label?
I mean where are the albums of Stat Quo, Bishop Lamont, Joell Ortiz, Eve, Raekwon, King Tee, etc?
And where are the ones of Gudda Gudda, Lil Twist, Mystikal, Shanell, and more?
EXACTLY!
What about ymcmb flow??
