Sorry, just saw this comment. There is no host tether on a rented server. The "non-dedicated server" is actually just online multiplayer hosted on your machine, and this game takes too much processing power to run, for your home machine to host a bunch of people all spread out around the map. You can extend the tether a bit (there's a video on my channel about how to do that) but it seems to work for some people and not others and I'm not sure why. I also have videos on how to set up your own rented dedicated server. Or you can play on someone else's unofficial server. Either way, no tether there.
we have a problem when we create a server, not Nitrado then our host has the problem that the other players move very laggy. Not playable, and that was the case for all of us, so everyone tried to host but ONLY the host had the problem.
This is because you aren't actually creating a server. They shouldn't even call it that, just confuses people. It's just a multiplayer session that one person is hosting on their own machine. The same machine they are also trying to play on. That's a big strain on a lot of computers and consoles. That's why it's creating lag for the host. Renting a server is different because all the processing is being done on a separate, professional server machine in a big server farm. So no tether, nobody is hosting it on their own machine, and anyone can use it even if the other players aren't online. Tends to be less laggy in my experience.
@hansl1534 I'm sorry, I don't set the pricing. Nothing I can do about that. You could all join somebody else's unofficial server then, you can't pick the mods and settings, but it would be free or much cheaper. Aaron Longstaff has free servers, so do some other creators. So it's really an annoyance
I've done it before, you have to dig into the game files and find the Game.ini file and GameUserSettings.ini files. And copy the changes into there, in the correct format. One thing I'm running into is not being able to pick up wild dinos on my non dedicated server. Also single player never saves. I hate admin logging. Im on xbox. Luckily non dedicated is saving so far. But i can't pick up ankys, phiomias, etc. Pve mode is on and everything. It just won't stay true. Not a big deal. Im old school. I build traps. But dropping them in is much easier. Im on xbox by the way. So hopefully they fix it soon.
In PVE mode wild dino pickup is disabled by default. You'll need to either find that setting and change it, or switch the world to PvP mode, in PVP it's enabled by default I believe. Also culling unwanted babies is far easier in PVP mode, so most of my servers are set to PvP even though we play pve.
@SongbirdGaming I did not know that. I'll give it a shot tonight. I found the setting but everytime I change it it doesn't switch. I'll swap to pvp tonight. Thank you! I like the baby feature though. Makes taming 10x easier.
PvP mode shouldn't effect wild babies in any way. In pve mode "unclaimed" counts as another tribe, and you can't harm other tribes' dinos sooo... if friendly fire is on, then you have to claim them and then kill them yourself with a weapon. Flooding your tribe log with death messages. If friendly fire is disabled you can't even do that. In PvP mode you can munch unclaimed ones with a dino and get some extra xp for that dino.
You mean for a non-dedi session? I haven’t really been able to figure out a way to do it either. Maybe it’s something they will add later. Or maybe I just haven’t played non-dedi enough times to figure it out. But I think you can make it private, and then just sent invitations to the people you want to join maybe? If you mean how on an actual server, check this video out. ruclips.net/video/S_Xi8TnNmk4/видео.htmlsi=ZI3j2FzXZgNSAe1q
You have to set up an admin password in the screen where you launch the non-dedi session, and give your friend the password. For example say the password was abc123. Then they need to hit tab to open the console and type "enablecheats abc123" (without the quotes). Then they should be able to use commands. They'll have to do this again each time they get on.
@SongbirdGaming so I had my friend type the enablecheats with the password to the server and he still can't use commands. I'm pretty saavy with ark so I made sure he did it correctly but still no go.
Maybe? I'm not sure. Someone who might know is @meanren. She taught me how to download server save data... not sure how that would work with a non-dedi. If it's a rented server, I can get you a discount code btw, and could ask my Nitrado rep.
If you are referring to the tether between the host and guests, yes it still exists. This video explains why it exists, and how to extend it. Note on lower end consoles I've heard reports of this not working. @@The2000scorpions you can extend it. Not to the degree you could on ASE but it is adjustable. Or, you can play on a server. The tether is only a thing in non-dedi sessions. Do you know how to save your world on non ded multiplayer. We constantly have to start all over and it’s frustrating. We tried the save world command. What else can we do?
How did you use the saveworld command? Was it the host that did it or one of the guests? And if a guest did it, did they use the admin password first to enable cheats? That command should work. I don't really know what to tell you other than that. Other than maybe consider renting a server? You can set the save interval that you want on a server, and also you can do the saveworld command whenever you want. It has a lot less lag, and you can leave it on all the time so your friends can hop on even if you aren't available, or if nobody wants to play for a while, you can turn it off so time doesn't pass and everything pauses until you're ready to play again. You have total control over all of that, and can even turn your server on and off remotely using the Nitrado mobile app. And there's never any tether. Also if you get arked you can roll the server back to a previous save. It's not super cheap, but if you get some friends together and pool your resources to rent it for six months or something in advance, then you do get a discount. And if you and your friends decide you don't wanna play ark anymore, you can switch the server over to one of the other over 100 different games that Nitrado hosts servers for.

@@eternex8896 yes, the length of the tether is one of the settings
How do I set a server password not an admin password
You mean for a non-dedi session? I haven’t really been able to figure out a way to do it either. Maybe it’s something they will add later. Or maybe I just haven’t played non-dedi enough times to figure it out. But I think you can make it private, and then just sent invitations to the people you want to join maybe?
If you mean how on an actual server, check this video out.

@@SongbirdGaming i figured it out, its the admin password it works for both on console
I started a non dedicated with a friend and my friend cant use commands but i can ... do you know how i can fix that. Ive tried almost everything
@@SongbirdGaming thank you so much
@@CASKETCRUSHER23 happy to help!
@SongbirdGaming so I had my friend type the enablecheats with the password to the server and he still can't use commands. I'm pretty saavy with ark so I made sure he did it correctly but still no go.
Is there a way to transfer my Non-Dedicated server data for me and my friend to my own Dedicated server that I made?
Maybe? I'm not sure. Someone who might know is @meanren. She taught me how to download server save data... not sure how that would work with a non-dedi. If it's a rented server, I can get you a discount code btw, and could ask my Nitrado rep.

Is this game worth it for just playing single player?
I think so! It's absolutely gorgeous and a lot of fun!
I only play in single player mode and its great.
Is there still a host barrier?
I'm not sure what you mean by host barrier. Do you mean the tether?
If you are referring to the tether between the host and guests, yes it still exists. This video explains why it exists, and how to extend it. Note on lower end consoles I've heard reports of this not working. MS/Sony aren't going to let you tinker with it to the point it would cause crashes.

Yeah there is a tether and you can’t go more than like 300 or 500m I think that’s why I refunded the game cuz on ase my mate and I can go across the entire map with out issue until we come across a cave or something and couldn’t see a option to extend it on asa
@@The2000scorpions you can extend it. Not to the degree you could on ASE but it is adjustable. Or, you can play on a server. The tether is only a thing in non-dedi sessions. It doesn't exist at all on actual servers. Lots of great unofficial servers out there to play on (including mine) or you can rent your own just for you and your friends.
Dude nobody wants to play on a random server where you can’t even choose your own mods, most players play on non dedicated server with like 3 friends, the fact that crossplay isn’t extended to non dedicated servers in ridiculous
This setting does jack shit, im still stuck at 180m iv tried and tried and nothing changes with tether
A lot of people in comments are saying on console only the slider works, typing it does nothing. I don't own a console so can't test that.
need 50x
I put it on hard and that’s about it
Good for you. There’s no wrong way to play Ark.
invest in pop filter jesus christ...
I was using one.
Cry more
you need to relax

We both tried but I think it’s better to get the server. Thank you for responding!
