I personally would not be getting the attachment but.. One point that I would like to highlight and rarely mentioned about the hori compared to other joy con alternatives is that the console does not have to keep the hori charged since they do not run on batteries.. After using the hori for the past 2 years, I have noticed that the console is less heated after hours of handheld gaming with the hori. It has become my favourite joy con by far.
I purchased this because I love playing my Switch in handheld mode, but I cramp up too easily with the Joycons -- and I want to preserve them for as long as possible. You can buy just the USB attachment part direct from HORI for $30 now. Used split pads are all over eBay for $20-$30. I picked up a SPP in red for $25 and then the adapter. So minus shipping i'm in for $55.
I'm curious if this would work on the left joycon with the dpad that hori made (while using a regular right joycon). Also; if you attach two regular joycons to this; would the joycons register and function as a wired controller (with even less latency)?

That is a great question! I’m not able to test this unfortunately, but I googled it and there’s an article about it by NintendoEverything that states it’s NOT compatible with PC.
It's cheaper to get the skull and co joygrip and the skull and co. Neogrip combined and put trigger grips on both and attach and detach the joycons from one to the other. Neogrip is dockable and it stays on the switch even with the joycons detached. I think nintendo is forcing them not to make the split pad wireless cuz they know they'd lose money from everyone not wanting to buy joycons. Nintendo is also too prideful to admit that they should probably make their own wireless split pad.
I was wondering why? doesn't make sense why they didn't add extra features including wireless. There's so many 3rd party controllers like the split pad that have rumble, motion control and are wireless. Just hesitant to pull the trigger. Have you had any experience with any of these?
This looks nice but id rather buy another controller for table top and docked mode. I will get the split pad pro alone for the handheld mode. Thanks for the review!
I just wanted to buy the attachment i already have splid pad and i love it, but my god that means the attachment cost 40-30 alone.. u right it's not worth 80 Bummer :\
The attachment is a little bit too late. The attachment should've released the same day as the split pad pro. Hori should've released a wireless version instead
@@redcrimson1028 oh that’s because hori is officially licensed and to maintain that license they have to conform to what Nintendo wants and Nintendo hates direct competition. So anything licensed by them officially, you can guarantee will fall short from a third party.
They need to drop hori and party with nyxi instead because they are making legit controllers. I have the gangar hori and yes they look nice but hori is so limited compared to nyxi
All slack should be given. What wired controller uses USB-C on Switch? The ports on the doc are USB-A. If you want this handheld, you wouldn't need the adapter at all. It makes no sense to have a cable that's USB-C when there isn't a C port for a controller.
joy cons started drifting like like crazy so i got a pro controller but i could not play portable so i bought a split pad last week. just get split pad the attachment set is worthless
Overprice for what it offers. Os precisely, for what it lacks. I've seen cheap 30 bucks controllers with NFC and Wireless. Hori could've at least try to put one. And there are many like the Split Pad Pro that can work separate from the Switch without any attachments. The only thing Hori has going by comparison is a better D-Pad than most others. And with the full set price I could buy 2 controllers, a dedicated D-Pad for when needed and a better wireless controller.
Hori just needs to make a split pad pro that works like joycons. Binbok does it, and so do a lot of other off brand names but the problem with those controllers are the atrocious dead zones. Maybe then it'll be worth 80 dollars. As they are now, I can't see this being a good purchase. If they functioned as regular joycons, the block that connects the controllers could be a charging block.
this is a load of crap, they should of released the attachment making it wireless and, able to buy it seperatly for those who allready own the split pad pro, i would buy the attachment in a hearbeat, missed opportunity, so annoying
this nothing but damage control trying to fix there design faults. there are already third party that replicate the joycons better and cheaper. hori might as well release a version 2 model that features gyro, battery, rumble, split co op mode. these are basic switch features that other third party has done better, surprised these where actually licensed by Nintendo.
I really wish Hori would release a version 2.0 model too. Needs vibration and a battery. We’ll have to wait and see! Thank you so much for the comment 😁

Why tf is it wired at that price point ? Edit: if it is optional fine but wired only ??
You guys know that Nintendo won’t allow Hori to add all of these things that were asking for because they don’t want the direct competition.
I was wondering why? doesn't make sense why they didn't add extra features including wireless. There's so many 3rd party controllers like the split pad that have rumble, motion control and are wireless. Just hesitant to pull the trigger. Have you had any experience with any of these?
@@Lag1914 yes actually. The nexigo ones are pretty good. The kinvoca brand was good too.
this thing is annoying cause I already had 2 sets and had to buy a third set just to get the attachment piece they should sell this separate
I prefer wired controllers. In my opinion, chargeable batteries and battery packs get expensive over time vs a 1 time price.
This looks nice but id rather buy another controller for table top and docked mode. I will get the split pad pro alone for the handheld mode. Thanks for the review!
Totally agree!
Wireless controllers have delays so wired is better for more competitive gaming
great video, keep it up
It’s 50 dollars at Walmart where I’m at
I just wanted to buy the attachment i already have splid pad and i love it, but my god that means the attachment cost 40-30 alone.. u right it's not worth 80 Bummer :\
It makes everything quite expensive, unfortunately 😞
@@TweitenTech sad
Very useful info. I think I'm going to get this attachment set.. because I'm a 50/50 kind of guy! 😎
I love it. Hope you enjoy it!
Wire lowers latency but momen making more versatile
The attachment is a little bit too late. The attachment should've released the same day as the split pad pro.
Hori should've released a wireless version instead
Nintendo won’t allow them to put all the stuff they want to in there.
@@MyFaithfulSword then how come other companies did? I have a few third party controllers/joycons that has everything in it but the NFC Reader.
@@redcrimson1028 oh that’s because hori is officially licensed and to maintain that license they have to conform to what Nintendo wants and Nintendo hates direct competition. So anything licensed by them officially, you can guarantee will fall short from a third party.
what if i just wanted one with out a whole new controller T^T
They need to drop hori and party with nyxi instead because they are making legit controllers. I have the gangar hori and yes they look nice but hori is so limited compared to nyxi
All slack should be given. What wired controller uses USB-C on Switch? The ports on the doc are USB-A. If you want this handheld, you wouldn't need the adapter at all. It makes no sense to have a cable that's USB-C when there isn't a C port for a controller.
I have to be honest this controller is so big like an Xbox controller but I have big hands so it should be a piece of cake
joy cons started drifting like like crazy so i got a pro controller but i could not play portable so i bought a split pad last week.
just get split pad the attachment set is worthless
Overprice for what it offers. Os precisely, for what it lacks. I've seen cheap 30 bucks controllers with NFC and Wireless. Hori could've at least try to put one. And there are many like the Split Pad Pro that can work separate from the Switch without any attachments. The only thing Hori has going by comparison is a better D-Pad than most others. And with the full set price I could buy 2 controllers, a dedicated D-Pad for when needed and a better wireless controller.
I have just bought the set today and I can't wait for tomorrow already
Hori just needs to make a split pad pro that works like joycons. Binbok does it, and so do a lot of other off brand names but the problem with those controllers are the atrocious dead zones. Maybe then it'll be worth 80 dollars. As they are now, I can't see this being a good purchase. If they functioned as regular joycons, the block that connects the controllers could be a charging block.
I'm not happy with the wires
I just want a controller with a jack port for the audio with everything else the pro can do. You failed Nintendo!!! Not that hard!!!
Nice
this is a load of crap, they should of released the attachment making it wireless and, able to buy it seperatly for those who allready own the split pad pro, i would buy the attachment in a hearbeat, missed opportunity, so annoying
only took 2 minutes to finally get into the video
Lol of course you can’t connect it directly to the switch
What if i used usb a to usb c dongle??
this nothing but damage control trying to fix there design faults. there are already third party that replicate the joycons better and cheaper. hori might as well release a version 2 model that features gyro, battery, rumble, split co op mode. these are basic switch features that other third party has done better, surprised these where actually licensed by Nintendo.
I really wish Hori would release a version 2.0 model too. Needs vibration and a battery. We’ll have to wait and see! Thank you so much for the comment 😁
