Long range accuracy test- match bullet vs hunting bullet

  • Have you ever wondered how far you can accurately shoot a hunting bullet? Or what the performance difference actually is for a match bullet vs a target bullet at long ranges? In this video we'll deep explore the real world performance differences in a dedicated match bullet vs a dedicated hunting bullet out to and beyond one mile. Certainly specific bullets have specific applications but in recent years hunting bullet technology has improved making them more accurate at much longer ranges. We'll fire 2 of hornady's most popular bullets side by side, the 230gr atip and 220gr eldx out of my .300prc barrett mrad to get real world data on how each bullet performs out to and beyond 1 mile. I think you'll be surprised with the results.

    Hornady ELD-X were pretty good for me but they had noticeably different accuracy than Hornady ELD-M for me in .243 and .284 diameters. The ELD-X were acceptable but not outstanding at 1,000 yards.
    However, Berger Elite (or Extreme Outer Limits) Hunters have been nearly identical to Berger Hybrid Match bullets in .243 and .284 diameters and both were outstanding at 1,000 yards.
    I've had the Berger hunters out to 1,200 for the .243 diameter and 1,400 in the .284 diameters.

    • @K-bob_45
      @K-bob_45 3 месяца назад +1

      Those berger elites are a real monkey wrench in the distinction between hunting and match. I believe it’s also true that Sierra and hornady have different accuracy requirements for match bullets vs hunting bullets. I’m better berger doesn’t make a distinction.

    Good equipment. Reliable, accurate rifle and optic. Capable cartridge and projectile for the task.Time behind trigger in similair terrain, positions and weather all covered appropriately but that stinking wind can be a pain in the arse!😅
    Any of us who have shot past our comfort zone on a windy day have their experience like the last course of fire.
    Nice job showing everything in your video. A big help for those who may be figuring everything out. Also the real experience of long range with your method of explaining, setting up, impacts and corrections is a plus for your channel in my humble opinion.

    8:14 time stamp, I’d venture to say the bc variation on the a- tip is much smaller than that of the eldx. As demonstrated in the video , may not show its ugly head in practical hunting ranges , but it most certainly will at longer ranges when traditional ballistic calculators and g7 bc starts to show its inadequacies. Great video as always.

    Went to Ally to buy ammo to support your sponsor here in mid-April - and they were out of stock on about 60%+ of their inventory. None of what I needed 308 and 6ARC, etc. was available. Tell the boys down in Texas that sponsoring ammo/advertising, creating demand, driving traffic at the web store is a complete waste if you can’t plan inventory management. I get it that having a stock-out of one or two skus will happen from time to time but to have half or more of the items unavailable means something is wrong with the business. Don’t mean to be an azzhole - but if you don’t know what prevents customers that want to buy from you from doing so, you’re running blind. As always thanks for the content.

    Incredible video, perfect format, and interesting material. Thr A-Tip is manufactured to tighter tolerances than the ELD-M or ELD-X, so this is not an accurate representation of match vs hunting to be fair.
    You need either a eld-m/eld-x combo that are withing 1-2gr of each other with equal powder charges and go from there.

    Hey Mr. MMM, you had that wind, that you did not need to contend with, you have enough land out there, "I can see", you have "PLENTY", of land, to set up your target "DOWN WING", Sooo, you get an accurate comparison of the two different rounds, you're going for "Range" comparison, not windage, you can figure windage on your app, but to get an accurate "RANGE"/"DISTANCE", comparison, you got'a have dead wind or shoot straight down wind, besides the fact, you are way over 1,000 yards out, that wind is doing six different things between you and your only flag, at the target. so you're just going off of what the flag is doing. Just a thought, Cheers to ya mate!

    Why aren’t you running your chrono when shooting those longer ranges? I think it’s likely that some of those misses are outliers on your MV range vs an error in the ballistic model

    • @MountainsMulletsMerica
      @MountainsMulletsMerica  3 месяца назад +2

      Great question and something I thought about after filming…. I have another ELR caliber compare video coming in a couple weeks where I did run the chrono for the ELR shooting and it illustrated exactly what you mention.

      @@MountainsMulletsMerica watching king of 2 mile is like watching paint dry but it definitely got my wheels turning about why misses happen. Every single one of those guys has a chrono on the gun. I think when you’re shooting out to transonic distance it’s a neat must unless you have a ton of data on a given load

    • @LFDNC
      @LFDNC 2 месяца назад

      I’m beginning to think we should all get a chrono. I recently saw a video about ammo manufacturers not being honest about their ballistics. I’d have to hunt it down, but Hornady was one of the companies in question.

    • @MountainsMulletsMerica
      @MountainsMulletsMerica  2 месяца назад +1

      Correct, the range finder is only correct at the distance you zeroed it. If you dial up for a shot you’ll need to go back down to zero before you range again
