Very interesting Mark . Even someone like me who has been reading about all things rifles, bullets , ballistics etc for 32 years learned something new from your video. Cheers 🍻
I really try to do my homework as a general rule, yet even so I am amazed at how much in-depth knowledge I keep gaining from watching this channel, every time. Thank you for posting such excellent content.
That's also why golf balls have the dimples to create little air pockets to reduce the friction and help them fly straighter, cheers as always Mark you are a wealth of knowledge 🍻👍👍
I have been shooting guns for 40+ years, I've been a competitive rifle and pistol shooter, I am a military trained Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician, and I didn't figure there was much left for me to learn about bullets, but I did today because I never knew this stuff about HP target bullets. Thanks!
As a novice but seriouse shooter of only 4 years and loading my own rounds for acuracy I found that HPBT Tips of high quality were superior. I didn't know why until now so you just explained a whole lot of stuff to me and I'm wondering how you gained such valubale knowledge. Thanks for the education you give us your superb.
Hey Mark, as much as I enjoy watching you slap steel at extreme ranges; videos like these are a pure joy. I really enjoy the statistics and knowledge part around this sport we love. And your delivery of information, is always well done.
Great video Mark! Probably the best explanation I have ever heard as to why the boat tail hollow-point is such a consistent round. For taking whitetail out to 400yds, I have found the 150gr Sierra boat tail hollow-point gives me the best combination of accuracy, consistency and terminal performace in my .270 Win. Thanks for another interesting presentation Mate! Cheers to you and Sam!
Things that I didn't know that I needed to know. Not a long range shooter but really interesting information that that when practiced can only help one improve.
I just learned of bullet tipping and pointing. Questioning claims made of improving accuracy. Your explanation of the aerodynamics of hollow point target bullets fits with my knowlege of supersonic shock wave formation. Thanks you validated my hunch and saved a gadget nerd a bunch of money and time at the reloading bench.
I am just not getting into shooting a over 100 yards and have been doing loadings and found that the bullets that have the hollow points that I thought would not be good are so far the most accurate for me. Now I know why. THANK YOU!
Very well explained the cross grain hatching used in engines to hold oil for improving friction loss linked with the bubble at the leading edge of a rough form bullet tip is brilliant thinking and showing your understanding of ballistics worth listening to, 👍👏👏👏👏👏
Mark, I want to thank you for teaching me something new today. I am guilty of honing the tips of my ELR hollow-point bullets down to a consistent roundness, always weighing each round to make sure that their weight was always equal to each other. I had no idea that the speed of the rotation would do it better for me. I was probably causing some erratic flights of my bullets. Never too old of dog to learn a new trick. Thanks for the great information.
Echoing a previous comment, I have studied firearms and ballistics since the '60s, yet I still learn plenty from these videos. As with so many things, quite a bit of the time things are glaringly obvious, but only after they have been pointed out. Thanks again Mark!
Once in a a while you come across a video that is so informative and so well done it makes shooting so much better with new found knowledge. Great video sir
Interesting, great video. I did wonder why my bag of cheap M80 bullets were open on the backend, and I have used sierra matchkings in the past and wondered why they were hollowpoint. So thanks for answering those questions.
Now this clears up my previous question on a recent video of yours . My bad for not having visited all of your past videos as I would have had my answer . This “year old “ video popped up on my RUclips this AM and explains that previous question . Lol
Real fine work and a phenomenal cover of a subject that has eluded many I shoot with and too many think military rounds are the end game and now you’ve given me a video to share and educate, thank you professor Mark and a good day to Mrs Sam.
Again very interesting Mark, the way you explain it makes perfect sense, up until now I always thought a hollow point bullet would be less accurate due to more turbulence, you learn something new every day!
Really great explanation of the “bubble effect”. i’ve heard about it before but your presentation is the best one I’ve seen about how the rough circular surface and the bubble together make a more stable aerodynamic surface than if we tried to craft the bullet into a point. I wish i had a super slow mo camera so i could see this in action. it’s interesting too how you mentioned that the point can be a trade-off between BC and accuracy.
I swage my own bullets and I learned something here. Good stuff! The real beauty of the flat based hollow point is that it is probably the easiest bullet there is to make. Easier than a soft point. So that makes them a win-win for shooters who want excellent accuracy and a lot of it at an affordable price.
I agree with everything you've said, very good job of describing it. I've also been told that the hollow point also moves the weight of the bullet more to the rear & less in the nose & that this is beneficial for accuracy?
Jesus Mark...and I've sought after ballistic tips thinking I was doing something. The more I watch you, the more I gotta rethink things. And I'm still working on testing the sub vs. super rimfire...lol. Anyhow cheers buddy!
When you say "consistency, which is accuracy" (around 2:44) and "inherent accuracy" (around 10:30), "Precision" was the word you're looking for that's most related to consistency.
The high pressure air bubble! Never realized that! Often wondered why they left it so ugly looking? All this time I thought the HP was to shift the center of gravity back in relation to the center of pressure...😎"thanks"👍148

I really enjoy your explanations, using logic with physics is very rare today! Thank You
Cheers Dale, thanks
Thanks for answering questions I've always wanted to know. Almost every teaching video I have is a questions I've asked myself.
Awesome, Cheers
Things that I didn't know that I needed to know. Not a long range shooter but really interesting information that that when practiced can only help one improve.

A nice one again. Now i know exactly why my target bullets have a flat or boatail back and an open hollow point 👍👏
Yep, Cheers
Mark, That is the best explanation that I have ever heard!
Thanks Man
You definitely answered a lot of questions as to why. Thanks for the explanation.
Cheers Will
Again very interesting Mark, the way you explain it makes perfect sense, up until now I always thought a hollow point bullet would be less accurate due to more turbulence, you learn something new every day!
Thanks Nick, Cheers
I found out through my own experience that HP/BT bullets are more accurate. Now I know and understand WHY. Thank you.
Cheers man
Having watched your videos,if you say that’s how it works, I believe it !

The high pressure air bubble! Never realized that! Often wondered why they left it so ugly looking?
All this time I thought the HP was to shift the center of gravity back in relation to the center of pressure...😎"thanks"👍148
Lots of details involved, glad you liked, Thanks Charles
Awesome thanks.

Good explanation, thx
