  • Long range shooting requires more than just an accurate rifle.... it requires a collection of supporting equipment working together to create a system that allows the shooter to quickly and effectively put rounds on target at distance. I recently shot the Steel City Rifleman's Challenge match in central Alabama which provided me a great opportunity to see how my system working in a practical long range match. This match isn't your typical PRS match.... this match has long stage times and unknown targets which require the shooter to effectively employ their full precision rifle system in order to make hits. I had a blast shooting this match and want to bring you along for a look at how my system performed!

    I like this style of presentation. I haven’t had a chance to shoot PRS style matches but I would be rocking a bone stock Savage 110 tactical in .308, a knock off Harris bipod, a flash hider, and a Viper 5-25 Gen 2. For the tripod I’m running a Peak Designs tripod. It’s alright but I wouldn’t buy it again. I do like gear reviews as well but seeing the system work together is cool and it helps gives context to the gear reviews.

    Went to Ally to buy ammo to support your sponsor in mid-April - and they were out of stock on about 60%+ of their inventory. None of what I needed 308 and 6ARC was available. Tell the boys down in Texas that sponsoring ammo/advertising, creating demand, driving traffic at the web store is a complete waste if you can’t plan inventory management. I get it that having a stock-out of one or two skus will happen from time to time but to have half or more of the items unavailable means something is wrong with the business. Don’t mean to be an azzhole - but if you don’t know what prevents customers that want to buy from you from doing so, you’re running blind. As always thanks for the content.

    Awesome video man, I'm sure you know, but shooting matches without the can and using a break will make you more competitive. I do the same thing a lot of times because cans are awesome

    • @MountainsMulletsMerica
      @MountainsMulletsMerica  5 месяцев назад

      Yep no argument from me here… a good brake can certainly provide a better recoil impulse and could be an advantage in a prs type match. My opinion a practical rifle should be equipped with a suppressor so that’s why I run almost 100% suppressed…. Willing to give up some performance to get the benefits of the can. Funny you mention suppressors though…. From what I saw out of 20 shooters in this match, only 2 were unsuppressed

    Loving this content! So, the Impact 4000 is zeroed to the reticle in the scope which is why you have to return to zero before ranging? And the one instance when it ranged at around 1400 yards happened because the range finder was looking at a distance well above/beyond your target due to the dial-up on the turret? I can then understand how that Tremor would be the ideal reticle to use with the Impact since it allows you to hold over for most elevations corrections and just leave the turret zeroed. Great video man!!

    • @MountainsMulletsMerica
      @MountainsMulletsMerica  5 месяцев назад +1

      You nailed it! The rangefinder is only zeroed when your scope is set to zero. If you dial your scope it changes where the rangefinder is actually looking vs where you think it’s looking. And yes I agree with you…. This is a big reason why a reticle like the tremor 3 is useful. Allows you to take a lot of shots at distance without dialing your scope. Thanks for watching!

I HATE benchrest shooters because they have all day to prepare and tailor their gear to something specific. Rarely will a benchrest shooter be any good in SHTF or WW3 IMO... Is this caliber specific? Seems crazy lugging around a 20lb rig

    What on the top of the scope in the back ?
    The eye piece seems to be angled down .

      It’s my triggercam 2.1 that I use to film through the scope. I had it loosely sitting on the scope as I had filmed a piece about how great their customer service was but decided to cut that out of this video due to length. Normally it would be mounted tight to the scope and in line to look through the glass.

    You need a heat cover for your suppressor. No reason to fight that mirage. It will totally screw you in windless conditions.

    Just curious to why you are using a mounted rangefinder when the targets are already ranged and the distances are known

      Targets on several stages in this match were unknown location and unknown range. That’s why I’d call this more of a practical rifle match vs something like a prs match

    I have to say, there isn't anything practical about that giant rifle. That would suck to hump around with all day. I obviously don't understand the word practical 😂. Excellent video, as usual.

    Looking at those ally ammo prices, nah bro. I'll keep reloading. 65 dollars for 20 rounds of match 308 is disgusting.

      Ultimately ally is premium ammo and priced as such…. You would 100% be able to reload at a lower cost looking purely at component cost. That said however I don’t believe the ally ammo is out of line for what you get… the $65 308 load is a 176 atip ($0.90 per) in Lapua brass ($1.20 per) so you’re already over $2 in cost with those 2 components alone. Then you have the benefit of not having to develop that load for your rifle, you don’t have to spend the time loading that ammo, and if you do reload you’ve got a great first firing on your Lapua brass for future handloads. I actually shot this exact load in my 308 barrel length compare video if you’re curious how it performs out of a couple of my rifles. Ultimately to each their own and I really appreciate you taking the time to check out my content and support the channel!

      @@MountainsMulletsMerica I completely get what you're saying. The poor man that resides in me on the other hand would rather waste time reloading! Big fan of the channel, always a good watch!

    For some reason a bolt action rifle is better. Mr. Snipe told me to use a bolt action rifle.
