Your walkthrough of 401 came up on my feed, You kept referring to "JJ;s" then I found this clip. So glad I did. I was in Woodstock yesterday and Waterloo was only another 45 min away, so I made the trip. What a great a great store with amazing selection, fair prices and very knowledgeable and friendly staff, Thanks so much for this walkthrough or I would have never have found this place.
Kind of glad we don't have a FLGS near us and the ones that are further away are small. That place looks like a warehouse. It's tempting enough browsing amazon. I'd be in trouble if they were literally all at my fingertips.
What an awesome game store! Nice shopping trip. I love Underwater Cities-hope you enjoy it! The expansion has recessed player boards, which was reason enough for me to get it. 🤓
This is my favourite game store. I also spend hours in here and they take all my money. Recent purchases were The Red Cathedral and Rolling Realms. Yay J&Js!
I had so much fun visiting board game stores on our 8000+ mile road trip this summer! It is so easy for me to spend hours in these stores once I visit. Great video!
I have spent MANY hours and MANY dollars at J&J's since I moved to Cambridge about 12 or 13 years ago! You mentioned Mr Jack in passing: it's a wonderful little 2-player game and is in fact in my top 3 games of all time! You also looked at Hive, which is an excellent "play literally anywhere" game for fans of Chess-like, 2-player, luckless strategy games. And great choice with The Quest For El Dorado (it does work very well with 2 players controlling 2 explorers each) - if you end up enjoying it as much as I do, the Golden Temples standalone expansion adds some really fun elements. As for Atheneum, I haven't played it, but the book shelving theme is very much along the lines of another fun Renegade game, Ex Libris.
My girlfriend and I moved to Cambridge within the last year and we're kind of on our own and looking for more folks to play games with. Are you aware of any local game groups? Thanks!
We love watching your board game shopping trips! J&J's looks amazing! 😍 SO many games! It's awesome seeing what on the shelves at other game stores. We've been talking about doing a vlog of all the board game stores near us in Ohio.
I adore Red Raven games. We have Above and Below, Near and Far, Now or Never (waiting to play until we finish a campaign of Near and Far), Sleeping Gods, Eight Minute Empire (plus and expansion), and Empires of the Void 2. Sleeping Gods is my favorite game of all time.
I have to admit I came from boardgameco's giveaway video and I liked the linked video so I stayed and subscribed. now I watch your videos regularly and it's my first vlog Style boardgame channel. first clog Style Channel in general to be precise. I liked the stroll through the store. the store that I used to went to was tiny compared to that but I still could spend an hour on looking at boardgames easily. since you mentioned Cascadia - it's a beautiful game. easy to learn and yet very variable through the different cards and ways the animals score. a game my gf regularly asks to play. it's easy yet fun and just a super chill game. totally recommend it. last game I bought and just unpacked was living forest, the nominee for Kennerspiel Des Jahres (yes I'm German). congratulations for 2k subscribers I bet there are gonna be more soon.
Holy cow that store is amazing!! I wouod be in so much trouble if I had a store with that many choices near by! Also, Red Dragon Inn is pretty fun. The trove you picked up is nice since it has slots for all the games. My most recent purchase was Space Station Phoenix. I saw it played on Dice Tower and liked the mechanics and had to have it. Going to break it out soon and play with my husband. I also ended up winning two games at thr convention I was at where I purchased Space Station Phoenix. [Festo! and Bears and Bees won via raffle].
The biggest board game store I’ve been to is Madness Games in Dallas Texas. It looks like you could fit two of them inside this game store. I’m so jealous.
Thank you, Jenna! This is the most addictive part of board gaming- discovering new games at the store and bringing them home! I’m glad you could bring us along. We LOVE Underwater Cities so I’m excited to hear your thoughts. Our most recent purchases were Creature Comforts, Just One, Chronicles of Crime: 1400 and Honey Buzz. I would recommend all of them :)
Oh wow! I would love a store like that! All of my local stores are mostly Magic, Warhammer, D&D or similar. With maybe a shelf or two of modern board games. I'd love to support a local store but typically they have just widely available games that you can get even at Target or B&N. Every once in a while something else but..rarely. I live just north of Los Angeles - and I haven't found anything like this (if anyone knows of any please shout out). That is such am amazing great store!!!
Underwater Cities and Isle of Cats are both great games! I've heard good things about Quest for el Dorado...but hadn't heard of Atheneum. Now I'll have to check that one out! Loved the video, you guys are so lucky to be close to such a fantastic store!
I can only speak of these two games as I own them and I can definitely say the quest for el dorado and isle of cats are so much fun to play! For the quest for el dorado we made some house rules of our own to the card market in order to avoid some people hogging all the good cards. Happy gaming!
Thanks for the ride. It's 'weird' for me to see a real store cause I'm a homebound disabled board gamer and have never had that experience. To me, buying is all about scrolling and always seeing the front cover. They aren't sorted by type like 'roll n write' section or anything but now I can see how that might be great to have that on websites when you can see them all at once. I never see the side of the box or big or heavy a box will be compared to others. And like when you showed at 7:50, I didn't realize very different games from the same company could have similar boxes either. lol I guess if you're looking for one specific game a knowledgeable staff is a must cause those shelves are overwhelming! I highly recommend you try Parks: Nightfall alone first. I love expansions but Nightfall truly feels like it adds enough to the game. Tons of Parks card, new sites and extra weight. Parks for us is a more relaxing game and feels 'complete' with Nightfall. We even mix in some stuff from Nightfall but not the campsites if hubby doesn't have the brain space. Good that you are trying Isle of Cats before the Explore & Draw. I much prefer drawing cat tiles from a bag and placing those colorful cheeky cats on the boat than drawing them myself. But of course if you love 'drawing games' it will probably end up in your library anyway :P To me though it would be too repetitive thematically. I'd look up other themes with drawing first. I think you'd love Tang Garden. Solo plays very differently, but feels like 2 games in 1. But there is an interesting fan solo on BGG someone came up with to simulate a partner. You asked my latest purchase: Hubby is picking up Maracaibo from Post office on Saturday morning :D Also bought the expansion right away. It will also come with Canvas, Cardaventura Vinland, Dog Lover, Café, Lewis & Clark, Walking in Provence, and Tranquility (I needed more choice of smaller/shorter games for health reasons). When in stock, Ark Nova will ship with Villagers, Fossilis and Canopy :D Birthday and anniversary shopping is great ;)
Wow! This store is like 15x bigger then my dogs here in Newfoundland Canada. It would almost be overwhelming with all those choices! I feel as though I could spend an entire day in this store and still not see them all. Great video and very funny ! I heard you talking about Cascadia amazing lighter game that is one of the easiest games to get to the table.
That’s what we enjoy so much about visiting J&J’s. Even when we already grabbed all games we planned on getting, we stick around for quite a while just to browse a bit (lot) more
This was really cool. So so many games! I haven’t bought any games lately but a Kickstarter “Psychic Pizza Deliverers Go To The Ghost Town” was just delivered 🙃
Good haul! El Dorado is a ton of fun, works great at all player counts! When you're up for smaller games, I would highly recommend Floriferous and the Isle of Cats: Explore and draw, both great games!
And what a great selection at your FLGS! We don't have anything close to that in Ottawa, I'll have to stop by next time I'm visiting grandparents in Kitchener!
We just played El Dorado last night and really enjoyed it at 2 player! We plan on introducing it to my parents this weekend so I’m really looking forward to that :)
So many fun games 🤤 we just got dinosaur world!! Still in shrink I’m scared to crack it open! What an amazing store! I’ve been trying to get my hands on a copy of canvas and can’t find it anywhere!! 🥰
Just seeing this now, but lovely to see you enjoying the store! How did you manage to spend that much time in the store without me bugging you constantly!? Or did I bug you constantly and you just wisely and intelligently edited it out... ^_^ Either way, I'm glad you enjoyed your haul! Thanks for stopping by, hope to see you again soon!
MARC!!! Hello! It is so fun seeing you comment here! Thanks for watching the video. 😊 We absolutely love J&Js and you are one of our favourite parts of it. It is always so nice to see you there, giving people great recommendations and helping us out with our choices and questions. We really appreciate it. Unfortunately I think the day we were there you weren’t working. Hoping to stop by again soon! Thanks again for watching and commenting Marc.
Nothing more Canadian than a Tim’s breakfast! Is the Biebs brew good? We were surprised by how much we loved Tim Biebs! Also, you mentioned the size of Dinosaur World - have you considered Duelosaur Island? We have both, and though we LOVE World, having Duelosaur is nice when we are in the mood to play just my husband and I but don’t feel like dealing with the table hog that is World.
What an AMAZING store!! That would be a great afternoon looking and buying games. I already spend so much at my local small game store I can only imagine the trouble I would get at J&Js I hold off on expansions as well. I've only purchased 1 - Lords of Waterdeep. Love the game but ultimately got it to add another player.
I highly recommended Floriferous. The games you got were great. I love that Francis is all in on the boardgame experience now. I don't do many expansion now. I still want to get The Quest for El Dorado too. You know I love Atheneum. So good.
WOW that store looks amazing!! I love Isle of Cats, the polyomino is so satisfying. My most recent pickup is Three Sisters, on your recommendation actually! It’s arriving tomorrow- can’t wait!
love the store shelf tour! The Quest for El Dorado is a race game for sure, we love it and I always make up my own wildly hard tracks now :) love Atheneum - it was a little too simple for us but I gifted it to our local library so I could check it out if I want later lol I think you will enjoy it!! xox
I'm curious about what you thought of The quest for el dorado. I have it for like six months now and I love it. It's very simple, but I love deckbuilding. Plus.. when you play it with two it's slightly different than with three and four, because you get to travel with two meeples.
My most recent pick-ups were Explorers, Floriferous, and Friday - all at the same time. The Quest for El Dorado is the one that I'm most interested in learning more about. You should have grabbed Floriferous! The theme of the game is walking through a garden, which is so fitting for your channel. It would work for your goal of playing more solo games this month
So jealous of your board game store. My local store has maybe 50 games on the shelves. None of which I’m interested in. There are more puzzles and stuffed animals then cardboard adventures in a box. I think I would have bought half the games you pointed out. Argh! There are so many. Isle of 🐈 🐈 Cats…great choice.
Great video! J&J’s looks like an awesome store! Nice haul Jenna and Francis! Shipwrights of the North Sea is the name of the third game in the North Sea Trilogy. Bargain Quest is a neat little game where you are competing with other merchants to get heroes to shop at your store to buy equipment for beating a big bad. They played it on Game Night on the Boardgamegeek RUclips channel once if you want to see how it plays. :)
OMG, this was awesome! Nice haul. What a collection. You are very lucky (or not) to have such a store so close. Does it mean you have a problem when you are so happy to sit and watch someone else shop for games? 🤣 So many times, I was responding to my monitor trying to answer your questions. If you ever get the motivation, doing this live would really be something. But in short of that, I leave you with this...get Now or Never (because it is a great culmination of the previous two in the trilogy AND you can play it solo). And definitely get Paleo. And no, you do not have to play double-handed. One tribe will do the trick. I LOVE this game! My most recent purchase is pre-order for Encyclopedia...can't wait!
Wow, they have an amazing game selection! I highly recommend Red Dragon Inn, it’s a really great casual game. The big box is the same amount of character decks as the other boxes, just a large box so it can be storage for everything. If you’re iffy on trying a big box they have some two character packs that contain mini versions of the tokens and things you’ll need to play which makes it great for travel too.
Agree with what other people commented on where if that store was my FLGS I'd probably live there... out of your haul, I really enjoy Quest for El Dorado. All the games you guys got were great choices, even the ones you mentioned but didn'tend up getting! My recent purchase was Incan Gold.
Great vid! Def scratched that need to be in a BG store. Just got Wonderland's War from Game Shack here in Toronto. With the publishers going their own ways felt I had to get it not knowing what that meant for future reprints (yeah yeah that's my excuse). Also been meaning to order Awkward Guests from BoardGameBliss, so just have to hope they restock. Also hoping Bliss opens their storefront sooner than later cause i'd love to browse that place. Enjoy the new acquisitions!!
What trickery is this?! So many games! Must be lots of mirrors 🤯 Was fun watching...I'm a bit jealous you got this place! I'd have a hard time paying the prices though 😕 I have a hard time paying MSRP unless it's a Kickstarter. Kickstarter makes it ok to spend $300+$85 shipping on 1 game you won't get for a year+ 😂 I need help.
Wow, that store would be dangerous for me to walk into! My FLGS is really more of a comic book store that has a board game area. Super nice staff, and they give 20% off on preorders and special orders, which is great, but I've never seen so many games on my most-wanted list in one place! Really enjoyed this video!
I have both Kingdomino and Cascadia. They are somewhat similar, but with Cascadia you are juggling tile placement with animal placement, while Kingdomino is only focused on tile placement. I like both games, but I feel that Cascadia has more longevity (multiple variants to play plus solo mode). So idk that you need both… but both are great games!
7:33 Yes, Tidal Blades[1]: Heroes of the Reef is a very interesting game - it is worker placement, engine-building - you are upgrading your traits - which help improve, for example, the number of dice you have or can refresh at one time, etc. It also has the ability for you to upgrade your dice. You have to choose either the blue die path or the red die path. In addition, you are fighting a monster - and you get points for giving the final kill of the monster, but at the same time, you end up losing all of the dice you contribute toward taking out the monster. I played it one time, back in December and really enjoyed it. I just found the Deluxe Kickstarter Edition, so I HAD to snag it!
Just picked up Under Falling Skies yesterday. Patiently awaiting the weekend to try it out. Also that Atheneum game looks super interesting! Will be cool to see if you play it or do a review.
Will definitely be doing a video on Atheneum Mystic Library! I feel like I haven’t heard anyone talk about it! I’m so excited to play it! 😊👏🏻 did you get a chance to play Under Falling Skies yet? If so, how was it?
@@TheBoardGameGarden it was so much fun! And so stressful. Don't want to talk about what happened to Roswell. When I saw that it was a solo only game, it was an instant buy. Can see a ton of replay value (if I... Get good haha).
Last board game I purchased (which I thought was discontinued) was "DooM" (2016). Cost me $118.00 Canadian. Also that store you guys are in is absolutely insane
I thought my local game shop had a great selection! Wow, they really have a huge inventory. Also, now that you said you like Kingdomino on BGA I agree that K:Origins is the one you should buy IRL :) also SCOUT is now my favorite filler game of all time. You should snag, not many stores hold it.
In your video, I'd like to recommend 18xx series like 1848 or 1862 (@17.00). Other trains theme i.e. cube rails like chicago express/ Irish guage and its series are also good(@17.00) In the case you want to try something pretty unique like a role playing game, I'd suggest Alice is missing (@3.26).
Wow that store looked amazing, I would be worried going in there though as I could spend a fortune in my own FLGS that is nowhere near as big as this I would not know where to start in yours
Thankfully it is like a 40 minute drive away so it’s not somewhere we go to often! I can’t imagine how dangerous it would be if we were like 10-15 away! I would be there every weekend! 🤣👏🏻
Nothing even remotely close exist here, I had a seizure at a certain point. Thanks, it was fascinating seeing so much stuff all together. You’d need to call the police if you’d try to push me out such a place before I’ve seen every aisle, every shelf.
Ugh! Forgot to take the title off of “EDIT MODE”! Please excuse the ugly royal blue. 🤣 Just imagine it as a beautiful title with a nice semi-transparent background.
Just got Coffee Roasters and Dungeons Dice and Danger. Looking forward to playing them. Thanks for your reviews.
J&J’s is the best!!!
Nice. I go to Waterloo often to visit family and I try to visit J&J every time. Great store.
Wow that's a huge store ❤
Kind of glad we don't have a FLGS near us and the ones that are further away are small. That place looks like a warehouse. It's tempting enough browsing amazon. I'd be in trouble if they were literally all at my fingertips.
Wow, J&Js used to be my store too when I lived just down the street. Great store!!
What an awesome game store! Nice shopping trip. I love Underwater Cities-hope you enjoy it! The expansion has recessed player boards, which was reason enough for me to get it. 🤓
Thanks for panning across the shelves, I spotted a game that I've been hunting for, Fresh Fish!
El Dorado played for the first time today. Fascinating game. Great first impression of Reiner Knizia
This is my favourite game store. I also spend hours in here and they take all my money. Recent purchases were The Red Cathedral and Rolling Realms. Yay J&Js!
Obsession is great! Hope you get it soon!
Yes great 👍 loved it I'm in Australia and we don't have anything like that, love it I would spend all day there and be broke and happy.
I had so much fun visiting board game stores on our 8000+ mile road trip this summer! It is so easy for me to spend hours in these stores once I visit. Great video!
loved following you guys around looking at the shelves :D
My favourite store! I was the same with you with The Isle of Cats!
Hi Kevin!! Been a while, hope you’ve been well :)
OMG that place is HUGE!!
Parks Nightfall is a must. No need to wait.
That selection is crazy! I’ve never seen so many games all in the same place
Me too. That store is paradise.
SOOO envious of your board game store!! We have a few but they’re all small and not a ton of options.
Excellent haul! You’re gonna have a ton of fun with those😄
Just came to like this to rep a local amazing store
I already have Ark Nova and have played it a bunch. You guys are going to love it.
Underwater Cities is amazing.
Yeah!,! Isle of cats. One of our favs. Hope you like it.Our newest game this week is Nidavellir. A great card dradting/blind bidding/point salad game.

I love watching FLGS around the world, this was awesome! More store vists please LOL
I recently got isle of cats as well and love it! My newest game that I picked up is cerebria from mindclash though.
Love J&J Cards! Usually end up spending way too much when we make the trip to Waterloo.
Us too! This actually was a pretty small haul for us! We typically get like double this but we were good this trip! 😊👏🏻
12:39 I have got to try Fake Artist! It may be good fun, especially with the people I am playing games with now.
Holy board games! I wish I had a LFGS like that. But then again, maybe it's for the best that I don't as I would probably spend way too much money.
I’m happy it’s a bit of a drive for us because if it was any closer I would definitely be going like every weekend! 🤣🤦🏻♀️
We love watching your board game shopping trips! J&J's looks amazing! 😍 SO many games! It's awesome seeing what on the shelves at other game stores. We've been talking about doing a vlog of all the board game stores near us in Ohio.

J&J's is a nice store. Used to frequent it a lot. Is the board game cafe down the street still open?
Yes it is still open. Round table games in Guelph is a great spot as well.
Oh wow! I would love a store like that! All of my local stores are mostly Magic, Warhammer, D&D or similar. With maybe a shelf or two of modern board games. if cascadia is anywhere near retail its a great pickup. hard to find.

Very jealous of J&J’s - so many games I saw there that are on my radar. Been looking for Genotype :)
I am regretting my decision not picking up Genotype! 🥺

Nice game store. Go back and get parade it’s great. Also mandala the card game even better👍
My most recent purchase was Stars of Akarios. Haven't had a chance to dive in yet, but super excited for it!
WOW that store looks amazing!! I love Isle of Cats, the polyomino is so satisfying. My most recent pickup is Three Sisters, on your recommendation actually! It’s arriving tomorrow- can’t wait!
AHHHH! That’s so exciting! I hope you love Three Sisters Iris!! 😊💕
love the store shelf tour!
7:19 Yeah, agreed! I just backed the whole collector’s edition of Tang Garden on KS!
My most recent boardgame purchase was Everdell! I'm super happy to finally have my own copy!
The other expansion you were looking for at 8:18 was Wheelwrights of the North Sea. Raiders is by far the best of that trilogy.
Ohhh good to know! Thank you Randall! 😊 I’ll have to check out that video because that does sound very interesting! And yes SHIPWRIGHTS!
OMG, this was awesome! Nice haul. What a collection. You are very lucky (or not) to have such a store so close. Does it mean you have a problem when you are so happy to sit and watch someone else shop for games? 🤣
So many times, I was responding to my monitor trying to answer your questions.
Love J&Js!!!
SAME! 😊
Isle of Cats is the game that got me and my wife into the hobby a few years ago, it’s such a fantastic game!
I wish I could get my hands on that bargain quest 🥺
I left a comment on one of your other videos about Parade. You need to just get it already, you won't regret it. And you're welcome. ;-D
11:08 I heard Now or Never is good!
obsession is super well made! Would love to try ark nova since its so similar to terraforming mars
Enjoy the new acquisitions!!
this was fun to watch! :)
This store is *enormous*.
I know right! And that’s not everything in the store! They have RPG stuff, mini painting stuff, dice, Lego, etc all in other aisles! It’s amazing. 😊👏🏻
I'm so jealous, that store looks amazing. It puts the stores near me to shame.
11:59 I would ❤️ to try Lanterns someday!
Isle of Cats is one of my favorite games. Can't wait to hear how you guys like it.
I’m going to miss J&J when I move overseas shortly ☹️
Man, I would be deep in debt in a hot minute if I lived within driving distance of that place. Also, I would need a new Kallax :)
Definitely recommend Hive, it's a great 2 player game and usually doesn't take too long to play a round!
Get good haha).
all of those games you guys picked up sound cool! excited for ark nova on frannys preorder :o
I’m so pumped Britt! 😊👏🏻
23:43 Deckbuilding and Racing Game!
4:03 What is Dragomino? I have never heard of that one!
