My girlfriend invented that technique for us to get around my zero food when playing with cards and cardboard mandate. It works really well in my opinion!
Oh I immediately decided that I was going to enforce chopsticks with snacks when I saw that clip. This bit has created a monster.
My kids totally eat with chopsticks at the gaming table. Their idea, not mine. Couldn't be prouder.

That cheeto fingers clip was the ultimate "NOOOOOoooooo" moment.
Going for the card with the Cheeto hands had me yelling "Noooooo!" at the computer screen.

Went to Midgard and saw him there. My buddy owned a total of none boardgames then and had no fucking idea why I was freaking out and asked him to play.
I then proceeded to humiliate myself in front of Tom Vasel.
She skipped over my favorite reviewers: Shut Up & Sit Down. :(

From listening to a recent episode of Sporadically Board featuring Matthew Jude,
I gather that this was inspired by actual comments on RUclips and/or Facebook.

Ouch.
You could go full circle with an evolutionary step about culling your games and getting back to only 10, then realizing the value of party games again.
Lvl 5. Making your own inserts on CNC machine, printing your own 3D figures, painting them, molding your own tokens, making your own expansions, making your own cards, boards, home rules for BGG (they're better than origin ;). Finally playing with all expansions so long that nobody wants to play with you anymore...
Having gone from “I’ve heard of Catan and maybe Ticket to Ride and I definitely will never play a game that lasts over an hour” to “an engine builder named wingspan? But I’m just not into airplanes... and what’s a worker placement?” to where I am now in a year or so, I love this. Need to add a phase for designer wannabes for those of us that binged Ludology! 😀
Binging ludology is a great rite of passage. Double-binging the Mike era is when you know you're way too into card games too.

You missed Phase 5 where you have so many games you have to start the cull. You know more games than house your in, selling games in shrink, selling games in shrink because you just got the second edition, deciding if you are going to keep edition one and two/deluxe version, I played half that game that counts as a play I could sell it without guilt.
The answer to this is to buy a bigger house.
And actually knowing who Paula Deming is. Woohoo!! I'm level 5!
Second edition? Please, I'm backing/buying Robinson Crusoe a third time.

Cuz, you know you're going to, anyway... and I've never yet been wrong about that.
Phase 6 is when you see a RUclips video of Paula endorsing the greatness that is... meatloaf.
Still watching this 2 years later and laughing every time :D you're gold, Paula.
That Dominion moment is absolutely on point! Though it gives you enough opportunity to go to the bathroom or cook a delicious meal. Or give you a depression how bad you are in this game.

While I think that many videos in the board game space that try comedy are cringe-worthy, Paula is just so completely clever and I cannot help but laugh every time. Seriously, her writing is top notch and her timing is excellent.
My favourite hobby is playing games. With little children and a busy life and teenagers who are being less involved and generally being tired I've found that my family has slipped a bit lately in that regard. And when that happens I tend to drift towards my second favourite hobby - buying games. And in that regard I am doing well and don't really need other players to make it happen.
I'm in the same spot myself.....
Sitting here, opening a Kickstarter game that arrived today, nodding along at every single part of this & fondly remembering my descent into madness, buying expansions for games still on my “shelf of opportunity” & FOMO all-in nonsense.
When you get your first Kallax shelf, you know you've finally made it a gamer. Huzzah!

4:59 never agreed with something more. That was satisfying.
I basically went from Risk/Monopoly straight to Twilight Struggle at 25 years old with no intermediaries, and goodness I still love that game. Six years later and I've played and bought a bunch of titles. Using sleeves, backing games, providing playtesting support, working with designers to port their titles onto TTS. It's a rabbit hole.
This might be my new favorite Things Get Dicey video!

Betrayal is still one of my absolute, all-time favourites and I don’t care who knows it.
Have you looked at Betrayal Legacy? It's not very Legacy, but significantly upgrades the Betrayal rules, reducing the number of games where you need to guess at how parts of the Haunt are meant to work and getting rid of a couple of exploits.

I've added metal coins to my collection and now any game that comes with coins plays at least 1.5 better on the bgg ranking scale.
I enjoyed that was included in the board game genre's. Those are definitely the games I play the most.

I was totally waiting for phase 5: Omni gamer acceptance. And for me maybe I’m on phase 6, “training the next generation”. I’m sure some out there can relate where your gaming options change when you have kids. Great video. Definitely felt like my own gaming biography.

Phase 5: Trimming the collection down to 100 games and doing the "if I like and keep this new one, I have to get rid of a different game".

I need an extra shelving unit just for my oversized boxes (old FFG coffin boxes are not the worst offenders). That makes more sense to me than selling them.
@@AdamWhitehead111 As long as you have a bunch in roughly the same size, just store them free-standing Jenga tower style. Fun-looking storage solution that adds an element of game-play to set-up when you get the box out.
I have my own huge database of games played that I started in 2010 and everyone laughs at me!
