Planning to replace my Tamron 28 75 f2.8 . In real world , we hardly use 2.8 for landscape . The lightweight and extra 4mm on the lower end makes it a better travel lens over Tamron and Sigma and Sony 2.8s . The used copies goes for less than $500. Thanks for the info. Great review .

Thanks for a great video, even today! My question here in 2024, how would you compare this to the 20-70mm f4 G lens? You can get the 2470 f4 Zeiss used now for under $400 while the 2070 f4 G is double the price. Have you had a chance to use that and if so, how do you think the 2470 stands up to it? Thanks again!!
Hey sorry for late comment, would you say 24-70 f/4 is still a great lens? I'm planning to decide between this lens or the zeiss 55mm f1.8, since Zeiss usually has that great microcontrast that gives 3D POP!
The number of blades has of course no influence on the bokeh when you shoot wide open, f4 here.. If the highlights are not round out of the center it is due to mechnical vignetting. Amost all lenses have a noticable mechnical vignetting escpecially the fast (and expensive!) lenses.
Honestly, I messed up the settings. I actually wanted to do 1080p as standard but I didn't really do much video before this, I was more exclusively photos. Here's the long story for anyone interested in not making the same mistake: When changing the settings, you get format (XAVC S etc) and then you can choose framerate/bitrate, the resolution isn't shown on the screen with the exception of the other formats (at least on the A7R2). For some reason I thought 100fps was 1080p on the A7R2 and if I wanted 25/50fps I would just edit in post. The specs on the newer models show that they are but I didn't check mine back then. I should have at least checked the videos during downtime on the trip before shooting more video, but the laptop I had with me was barely able to edit more than a handful of photos at a time so I didn't even want to touch video at that stage. Oh well, lesson learnt for next time but on the bright side, with 100fps, shaky hiking/walking videos can be slowed down to appear a lot more stable.
I'm contemplating between the A7C + 24-70mm f/4 Zeiss vs the a6600 + 16-55mm f/2.8. They are about the same price + same weight & size + similar depth of field. Any suggestions?
I would say your choice is more around APSC vs FF rather than the specific body-lens setups. If you haven't already, I would read up on the pros and cons of APSC vs FF. Also, even if you don't plan to now, if you buy other lenses down the line, that will shift the scales on all those points you've mentioned. Sony's focus is on FF so there will always be more lens/body choice there. If this is your first foray into a proper camera system then you can't go wrong with either. Some other things to consider: A7C is newer so it has newer tech. Primarily this is UHSII vs UHSI storage, fully articulating screen, better AF and USB C. To most people they are probably negligible or simply nice to haves but you would have to assess each feature against your own planned usage.
@@uncruckus9345 after trying out all combo's I found my favorite is traveling with the A7C + Tamron 28-200. Relatively good low light capabilities and i love the range.
I haven't used the Tamron 28-200 but I've used super zooms before and you might be disappointed. Their best feature is convenience over optimal quality. Each to their own and regardless of what you settle for, wish you all the best in your lens search.
Your experience pretty much mirrors mine - in real world shooting, the FE 24-70 F4 works great. Some excellent trekking footage showcasing the lens :)

Im using A7C with zeiss 24-70 F4, and zeiss 55mm F1.8. The combo is very travel friendly.
Im planning on using this combo on my A6400 for travel!

I would suggest the a6600 with the sigma 18-50 or the a7c with the sigma 28-70 instead.

I have this lens and honestly it’s not worth the money. Get a tamron 28-75 G2 or the sigma 28-70 instead.
I hate this lens to death. Soft as f in the corners. Distortion is massive. I cannot see the day i replace it for the tamron 28 to 200.
