This result is consistent with my experience with these two lenses. The online comparisons between the old 24-70/4Z and the new 24-105/4G meant that I ended up buying the G - fortunately I didn’t sell my Z because I usually grab the Z rather than the G if I want a standard zoom.
What we all need to remember is that reviewers will favour the shiny new thing over the older model, because if they don’t then they lose early access to new releases. It’s interesting to see all the hype over the recently released 20-70/4G and how much more useful it is compared the now old 24-105/4G - of course the 24-70/4Z is so ancient that the reviewers usually forget its existence!
Thank you for you comment. 😊👍 that is exactly the reason why I make these comparison videos on my Chanel. New does not always means it is better. 😉
I have the zeiss 24-70 f4 and found my images to be sharp with good contrast and nice color, B&W images are also very nice. The lens focuses quickly on both my A7ii and my A7r3
Thank you very much for your comment. 👍 This lens is still one of the best on the market.
Thanks for this comparison, I didn’t expect this.
Thank you, you’re welcome.
I have the Zeiss 24-70 f4.0 and after extensive testing I agree with comments below - I think that lens got a bad rap for softness in the corners wide open - but everywhere else, at other apertures, it has great performance. Sharp, good contrast, good color. However, I was thinking of getting the Tamron 28-75 f2.8, for better low light performance and shallower depth of field. But then I added the Dxo PureRaw 3 plugin for lightroom and now I easily get 2-3 stops higher iso from my raw files. Outstanding sharpening and noise reduction. So, F4 is not a problem any more. As for getting a shallower depth of field - there is not a lot of difference between f2.8 and f4 - but with lightroom's new lens blur feature you can add just a little extra blur, and as long as you don't go overboard the result is almost identical to using f2.8 - or even f1.8. Conclusion, I am saving some money and keeping my Z 24-70! The only advantage with the 24 - 105 is the extra reach at the long end, which I would really like to have. But I am not willing to give up performance everywhere else for the extra 35mm. Instead I bring along a manual Nikon f2.8 135mm AIS which is super sharp, sort of defeats the point of have an all in one zoom maybe but I only bring it if I know I'm going to need that extra reach.
Thank you very much for your comment. 👍 I didn’t test this function in Lightroom yet it sounds very interesting. 🤔
But you are right, an F4.0 is not a big deal anymore today.
But a F2.8 can save you also a good picture in low light because you can bring down the shutter speed.
on my A7R III I used to limit ISO to 800 max, but with the newer noise reduction tools 3200 is now my new max! 2 full stops. So I don't need f2.8 as much. For really low light I go to a prime, like the zeiss 55mm f1.8.@@dawa5581
I think your comparison of the two lenses is well presented and correct. I have tried the same with the same result.
Thank you for your comment. 👍 I’m trying to make my comparisons always under the same conditions with the same settings and the same focus point to get the best results. I’m happy that you get the same results at your test 😊
Thanks for this comparison
Thanks for your comment. 👍 you’re welcome.
Interesting video! But one question, if the comparison was made between the jpg of the two lenses, should the similar raw files developed with Lightroom give the same results? Thank you
Thank you for your comment. 👍 I have test it also with raw files and you will get the same result.
The Zeiss 24-70 got mixed reviews. I don’t think they were fair. It’s a great lens. I’ve traveled with it extensively. It takes great photos. Nice walk around lens.
Yes of course. The 24-70 zeiss lens is still in very good compact lens. I like the stabilization , the warm tones, and the sunstars. This lens has also one of the best build quality still today.
@@dawa5581 the reach of the 105 would be nice but for travel and street photography it does a great job. The 16-35 is even better.
@@petemcknight803 I own also the 16-35 Zeiss and it’s one of my favorite lenses. There will be a review in one or two weeks on my channel about the 16-35 Zeiss vs 17-28 Tamron. So stay tuned 😉
@@petemcknight803 but there is also another trick to max your reach with this lens. Do you know clear image zoom? It works great.
@@dawa5581 I didn’t know about that. Time to google. Ahh. JPEGs only. But cool all the same!
Thanks for video
You’re welcome. 😊
Takes group photos (30 people at f5.6 24mm flash on A7RII) and corners were blurry stretched and not well corrected within the camera. Indeed to heavy combo, so I ended with sony Zeiss 24-70 on A7C. Indeed sharper!
You’re right, absolutely the right decision! 👍
Nice comparision video, plan to get this lens for travel due to its compactness and pricing.
But after some research, that seems to be two version of zeiss lens which differences by serial number (45xxxxxx & 46xxxxxx) and the zeiss/carl zeiss name infront, heard it was some QC related issue but has never been proven, if that was true, might've been where the negative reviews comes from? 🤣
I’ve never heard about this issue. Maybe you can buy it and change it back if the quality is not so good. 😉
Wow no way. I didnt expect these results.. After reading all the negative reviews I was actually looking to replace my 24-70Z for the 24-105 G.
I couldn’t believe this results neither. 😉 I shoot a lot of test shots and the result was always the same. The 24-70 is still a great lens if you want sharpens till the edges.
@@dawa5581 yes the results are very interesting to say the least.
Were these pictures shot with any lens compensation either in-body or in Lightroom?
Wish I could reproduce these results with a copy of my own 🤷🏻
@@RazorOwned these pictures came directly from my camera. They are all shoot as JPEG with in camera corrections.
Do you end up buying the 24-105? Mind if I ask what are the negative reviews?
@@mdz4525 No I'm keeping the Zeiss. People complain it's not sharp and not worth the money. Resale value is low, therefore ppl assume it's bad.
Super. Ganz großartig. Hab das 24-70 für 429 gekauft
Das freut mich, das ist ein top Preis 😉👍 Am Wochenende kommt noch ein Vergleich zum Sigma 28-70mm F2.8
Which lens is best for videography 24 to 105 or 24 to 70 ??
If you will not miss the focus hold button I would take the 24-70 Zeiss lens. It has a very fast and quiet autofocus. Perfect for video work!
At what aperture are you comparing?
I have mentioned it in the video, it was always an F4.
@@dawa5581 thanks. 24-70 win
@@cuongtrinh8532 you are welcome 👍
các hình trên số sánh ở khẩu độ bao nhiêu vậy bạn
An F4.
Does Sony 24-70mm Zeiss still good in 2024?
Yes, it is still a very good lens and 2024. I have a lot more reviews about this lens on my channel. Maybe this will help you too. 👍
I am probably getting rid of my 24-70 F4, in favour of a Canon 24-105mm F4. I use other canon lenses with an adapter, that works perfectly so far.
ANd gettimng sharp pictures. I just might bin the whole SOny range as I cant afford good glas sfor them, and go back to a Canon 5D,a sthere isa n abundance of cheap second hand glass for it, now that everyone is switching to mirrorless.
Thank you for your comment. Haven't you tried Sigma or Tamron yet? They sometimes have better lenses in terms of sharpness than Sony.
@@dawa5581 not yet, but I am wanting a longer lens than my 70-200 so may go for a Sigma or Tamron for that.
@@PhotographyByRune please check the tamron 28-200mm. For me it’s one of the best versatile lenses for Sony cameras. I have also made a video about it on my channel.
@@dawa5581 That would be nice as a travel/ walkaround lens. But I allready have the Canon EF 70-200 F4 IS, and it performs excelent on my Sony with the 7Artisans adapter.
I am after something longer. Like a 100-400mm or even 150-500mm lens.
But I alo want an ugrade in the 24-105mm range. And I can only afford one, this side of summer and I know the long lens wont be used that much.
So it is a classical battle of want vs need, lol
@@PhotographyByRune then I can recommend the sigma 100-400mm. This is a relatively light tablelands, which is extremely sharp and has a very good performance. I have also a lot of videos about this on my channel.
