You never answered your own question: is it really worth the extra money? Of course the sony GM is the better lens, but is it much better that you would pay more than double?
Hi, Thank you for the video. It would be great to add a comparison between these two indoors.
Hi, At 2.50 you said that it has dispersion lens to help chromatic aberration as well as colour fringing - are they not the same?
Is it possible to use the Zeiss 24-70mm F4 ZA OSS lens in conjunction with a Sony FE 2x teleconvertor or is the teleconvertor only to beused with a 70-200mm lens?
How does Sony 24-105 compare to these two lenses ?
Very useful video! Thank you!
why would you want landscape with f2.8, most of mine is shot with f8 and up
100% agree with you! However I know people who do street photography/handheld shooting at night that would use the wide angle at 2.8.
Also for astrophotography
Because of the better corner sharpness... but 900 grams!
In my experience wide aperture lenses perform much better than their f/4 cousins stopped down. You are still paying for a superior optical design, and not just extra F Stops.
It's called creativity
Did you mentioned about focus speed? Or I missed it. Is there any difference?
Realising this is a random question… But wanted to ask your thoughts on which of these lenses would be best for videography? Or even if you thought these lenses should be used at all for videography? I am looking into acquiring a 24-70 Sony lens and have not been sure whether to go for the f4 or the F2.8 g master…
Hi Matt not random at all, great question! It all depends on what’s within your budget and if you need a lens that’s a little bit faster or not. Both have excellent autofocus, and perform really well, but of course, the GM is f2.8 provides more flexibility regarding better performance in lowlight as well as a much shallower depth of field. Our staff personally prefers the Sony 24-70 GM!
I think the f4 just won simply because of size. If I want to do low light street, I can grab my 35mm or 55mm.
What camera body are you using? Nice video
Afinal, vale o investimento na 24-70mm 2.8? ou a 24-70mm F4 satisfaz?
Paulo eu uso a 24 70mm F4 zeiss e faz o trabalho,como diz ai o Hibbs ,as fotos dele e quase sempre a F8,para que gastar tanto dinheiro.eu uso A7R2 tenho 3 lentes uma lente fixa e duas zoom,,,,24 70 mmF4 zeiss,,,,,Sony70 300mm 4.5 5.6 G,,,,,,e o meu bebe 85 mm 1.4 GM.Nao sei o que faz,mas a 24 70 zeiss e boa a meu ver.
I prefer the F4 as I use primes when I want sharper and faster glass. The F4 is a good enough "jack of all trades" that covers a wide range and is portable.
My go to camera bag kit is the 40-70 zeiss, the F4 70-200 g and whatever prime I think I will be using the most (usually the 50mm f1.2 GM).
Where did you get the shirt
Wow the colour on the zeiss looks WAY better to me in these comparisons 7:39 🤩
Does anyone know which is better for video!? I have the Zeiss currently. But thinking of switching to GM for video performance.
The gmasters with low aperature are often very lound when focusing unfortunately. I found this out the hard way after purchasing a 85mm G master lense
I'm a big fan of them zoom lenses, the versatility is too good
Do we know what camera/ video camera was this video shot on? Looks pretty solid
Jack Hu the Sony a7r range probably mark iii or ii
does it? 😐 The highlights are al blown out to me...
Stop adding "mark" to camera names, just say A7R3
@@zacharybohlman4069 im also wondering where they get the "mark" lol
hello
i wanna buy a zoom lens for my a7 iii
i look for a lens for making movie
which one is better to me?
Why would you use 3200 ISO 1/8000 shutter? I'm confused. Wouldn't 1/1000 be plenty sufficient for shots of buildings and people walking at 800 ISO for better image quality? You would use 1/8000 to freeze a flying bird or something really fast right? Someone help a noob.
He probably shot in auto.
DOF aside, the 2.8 lens looks much better in contrast and tone.
what do you think of the sony 24-105 f4?
Excellent. I have it. If you are ready to carry this large and heavy barbell.
It beats the zeiss f4 in every way
Take the sound volume to the top if you want to hear something in this video...

What filter fit on g master?
82

Thank you sir
Not looking to use this for portraits... Just for all around shooting. I have a 24-70mm f/4 Vario-Sonnar and I have just purchased a Sony A7iii.
I hope to use the Vario-Sonnar (at least for a while) on my new camera. In your opinion will I be terribly disappointed with the image quality?
Hi I am also the same situation, using 24-105 canon l lens and bought tamron 28-75 but not happy, dont know pics are not sharp. Now looking to buy zeiss 24-70 , cant afford gmaster. Whatsbyour take kindly reply thanks
I am wondering if your copy of the Tamron lens might be off focus a bit. The earlier copies had some focusing problems which, I believe, were remedied by a firmware update. The 24-70mm f/4 Vario-Sonnar does not have a reputation for sharpness either; especially away from the center of the image. My copy bears that out - especially on my APSC cameras.
I am waiting for the arrival of the A7iii which I have recently purchased and I will test the lens out on that camera.
The lens that I will test it against is the Sony 70-200mm f/4 G OSS at 70mm. In reality, I don't expect the Vario-Sonnar to be much competition against the 70-200mm G lens but, that will be a good baseline.
I'd be very happy if the Vario-Sonnar is usable on the A7iii...
Richard Crowe yes i am thinking to buy zeiss because tamron is not fine. Also i have updated version of tamron and people say that use 2.8 or 4!for sharp inages and if inhave tonuse f4 then why spend money on tamron its better to buy ziess 24-70 and use f4 on that
I own the Zeiss and I am using it on my Sony A7III. I am not that impressed with the image quality, especially when it comes to low-light conditions, you need to crank the ISO up to 12800 to get a brighter image, with loads on noise. At the moment it does the job, but I will definitely sell it in the near future.
So which 24-70 do you prefer and why?
Image samples: 7:10
FEATURE CORRECTION: The Sony 24-70mm F4 uses a 67mm filter thread

what's recommended for newborn photography f2.8/f4
Whatever you prefer, but generally portraiture of any kind people will prefer shallower depth of field to isolate their subject. So you could say 2.8, but f4 would do great as well.
Can we have the photos from the comparison?
Hey John! I'll put it up in a blog post and you'll be able to download it. I'll link you when they're up
Are you the little brother of kai?
Hi
4:40 cameraman is focusing on the guy wearing a suit instead of the subject lol
You forgot the price. Yes the G master is better but a price off 1200 or 2100 euro two times more one a lens. For a 1000 euro you can bay a good prime lens 24, 35 or 50 mm. The better than the G master.
I've had the 24-70 Zeiss. Nope. I don't have the Sony GM but the Sony 24-105 so much better.
i see people in shorts and half sleeves, & i see people in suits.
is it summers or winters ????
Shoots Sony with a Fuji shirt

The logo in the corner is incredibly distracting :|
18-105 vs sigma 24-150
That poor guy from 7:21...
lol bummbag... good way to play if off
Surprise dark horse answer: Tamron 28-75/2.8 :)
Would love to see that comparison.
Dave Dugdale's favourite !
No 24mm..
Crap talking, that ain't no 24 nigga
never owned a lens with so much distortion as the zeiss F4, it's clearly an adv. strategy to put Carl Zeiss's name on that piece of garbage. really good built quiality but really really poor image quality. it distorts not only on the sides of the image but really near the middle, did a whole shoot with to models and when i looked at the material they had a Quagmire face going on. real bummer
I was about to purchase this tommorow
@@makeanaveragemanrich1284 don't be stupid and don't get that
The GM is better, if the cost is in the game go for the Tamron 28-75 and please don´t buy de one "branded Zeiss"
zeiss so so much sharper
@@akhyarrayhka4048 No it's not. At f4 is the less sharp of the 3.
Hmm. The Tamron has no OSS, starts at 28 mm instead of 24 (it is more than you might think) and is larger. Without OSS I can’t use it in my 2nd cam a6400 for filming.
@@karlv.tinero2660 For the $ of the GM you can buy the 17-28 and the 28-75. Or the 28-75 and a gimbal. Also you dont need oss for filming, there are tripods, gimbals, steady cams, mono pods and sliders, oss is only a good tool.
Cristián Escobedo Del Castillo Thanks. I would not buy the GM, too heavy and expensive. I have a Gimbal, but for free hand movie shots on the go, I need OSS. The Zeiss delivers 24 mm, is compact and portable, not expensive and delivers a decent quality incl. OSS. As an option I think the G 24-105 is very close to the GM with less size+weight, better zoom range and great quality. The main point for the GM and Tamron is the 2.8 and even better sharpness. But the Sony G and Zeiss are in my opinion already good enough...
Just a whole video of this guy talking
