You may never see this Ian but you , your voice and lyrics literally saved my life ! I listened to "in loving memory of " end to end probably a 1000 times, somehow your words spoke to me in a way I can't explain, as funny as it may seem I just knew I was not alone even when had no one in my life . I just want to say thank you ! And although we may never meet in person , I want you to know you were and are still very important to me !
I feel ya man, been there and I used to feel that pain and forever alone in the universe feeling, but tomorrow is always a new day my brother! Just know you are not and by far the only one that feels this way. Stay strong and whatever will be will be my friend go with the flow and float to safety or struggle against the tides and drown from panic and exhaustion. Life changes from minute to minute my brother, so... You'd better stick around or you'll never know 🙏❤️
Thats an amazing story John W! This is a very deep song to me as well! Always know that you are never alone....we are all connected and flying through space together, even after this short life here, our energy will travel beyond still somehow strangely connected. .
I was sort of cut off from the world in 1998 when I first heard this song. I had made a cassette recording of it without any clue who it was. After an exhaustive search, I found Big Wreck. Thanks to uploads like this I'm still enjoying this music. Thanks so much!!
Why does this only have 414 likes? This song is so brilliant and Ian Thornley is an incredible talent! Song writing, vocals and guitar, all just massively talented. I guess we will have to keep him for ourselves in Canada, but i feel bad for the rest of the world!
Still a fan of the original, but this is amazing. One of the greatest bands ever. I had the pleasure to see you and the boys at "The Outback" Sault College in Sault Ste Marie about 15 years ago with Joy Drop, and I'll never forget it. You started your first set and were rockin out, second song in, power cuts out on you guys, and my drunk ass yells out "Now that's some power right there". You laughed and handed my girlfriend a half smoked cigarette. One of the best shows I've seen. And you have been an inspiration of mine for years! I love your music. Please come back to the Soo.
I heard the original for the first time after I graduated high school. Now that I am 37 and has seen my share of shit, this new version is more powerful to me. I have been a fan of everything Ian has done and always will.
i've been waiting this moment for a long time... but now i can assure it: nothing in the world will never beat the 2014 suhr party version of this song, to me... there was some magic going on that night, there really was...
Thank you, Lee Anderton. Without that interview, I would never have known about what is now my favourite band. Ian's voice is truly something to behold, and this song takes it to another level, I think. Thanks, Ian. :)
Watching this video.... ahhh.... I was thinking Ian's looking older now. Still good, but older. Then it dawned on me that I've been listening to his music for almost twenty-five years.
Great sadness in Ian Thornley's eyes at the end there. I'd hazard a guess this beautiful and poignant music video coincided with his own situation round about that time. Loss is great thing forever remembered. Perhaps the ending is the loss. Or the loss happens before the ending. I lost once but in a twist of irony having walked away she came back forever. I hope you find your peace if you haven't already.
It’s amazing to see this video versus the OG Big Wreck video. In the OG it’s like yeah I f’d up but why are you doing me this way. This is you got everything good & you turned it into a bonfire to ruin it.
The car was probably the first memory of him loving her and order to move on he had to destroy place in his mind where he just could never leave. This remake is so tragically beautiful just like the video. Well done Ian...Well done!
Matthew Good brought me here....got me to Big Wreck...got me here Not usually a fan of songs being "redone" but, I haven't heard a version I didn't like! 👍 Any other artists doing this song?
The context of the music and lyrics in this song was meant to mature into this remake. Very clever and insightful to sing about memories you thought were in the past but revisited due to circumstance where unresolved feelings resurface. What a better way to that than to create an alternate arrangement to a song about that very thing you wrote two decades ago. Bravo. I get goosebumps every time I hear this rendition.
Amazing! Very moving and emotional. I love seeing this side of Ian Thornley. He brings so much feel and emotion in his music. A true talent like none other.
I'm beyond excited I stumbled upon this whilst looking for another song! Can't wait to share with my hubby - we have been fans since we first met each other in Uni. Love this new release! Such a powerful voice!!!
As much as I appreciate Big Wreck / Ian Thornley, this version, although stand-alone fantastic had it been released before the original, just doesn't stack up to the heart and energy of the "In Loving Memory" version.
ummm.. Mike dropped..... Thornley, BiG Wreck. biggest unknown band best known to me for their brilliance since the first BW song heard in 96... Blown Wide Open MFRz
I don't know if u read or care about the shit people type on here... but I have so many thoughts to ask u about music and future related..... including what I think the best remake u could do that the world has ever heard
Ian, I did a remix of your song. I hope you enjoy it. I've been a fan since the first time I saw you on the tour where Big Wreck opened for Dream Theater. Your vocals are so hauntingly soulful. It's like listening to a banshee calling out to a lost love, heart breaking, and reaching for redemption. The music video, wow. I was not expecting the road it went down. I have to ask you, "What or who inspired this format?" Who directed it, who was the screen writer? The cinematography is fantastic, and the lighting is on point. Question. For the original music video from the ILMO record. Who at Atlantic thought it was a good idea to cut out almost a minute of total song time? That genius deserves a sledgehammer upside the head. BTW, Atlantic fucked you guys. Typical of them when back then, labels chose who was and who wasn't going to be the next big thing. They should have given you that push they gave other 90s bands of the time. I still say to this day, you have the absolute best guitar tone of all-time!
if you close your eyes and listen to the music you will see the sunrise

Rock on, dude. Stay positive and let the music heal your soul as needed. Peace.

.
Went through a horrible breakup last year. Ive listened to in loving memory over and over in my car... Amazing album. A masterpiece! 💔
Music speaks when words can't ❤
🍻
Thank you so much, Ian. You have no idea how much you have helped me throughout the years......and i can't really even explain it.
All these years later with a slight new twist in the sound, the lyrics & Ian’s delivery; hit haughty & more mature.
If you say you love music and don't love this song you don't love music!!!!.
I was sort of cut off from the world in 1998 when I first heard this song. I had made a cassette recording of it without any clue who it was. After an exhaustive search, I found Big Wreck. Thanks to uploads like this I'm still enjoying this music. Thanks so much!!
This version is all feels. All feels. It just destroys me, guts me and yes even leaves me Blown Wide Open.
Why does this only have 414 likes? This song is so brilliant and Ian Thornley is an incredible talent! Song writing, vocals and guitar, all just massively talented. I guess we will have to keep him for ourselves in Canada, but i feel bad for the rest of the world!
Because kids today don't know fuck all about what good music is.

one of my best song. i cannot understand why they are so underrated??
No matter what, I still get chills that run from head to toe as soon as I hear the first chord. Thank you Ian.

Ditto bro
except for the graduation part...It took me a few yrs
Ian Flitcher Thornley... u give me the sunrise every time I hear and feel this song
it's Fletcher.!
Every single thing about this song and video is, in the true sense of the word, awesome!!!
i've been waiting this moment for a long time... but now i can assure it: nothing in the world will never beat the 2014 suhr party version of this song, to me... there was some magic going on that night, there really was...
+fabrizio peretti That one is great, but the 2015 Suhr performance is EPIC
+Sal Fabbri not for me man, i fell in love with the way ian vocalized that night
+fabrizio peretti I'd have to agree with you. Actually, most Suhr versions are absolute magic.
You are completely spot on I listen to the 2014 version almost weekly. They NEED to release a DVD of that night
+cbappa2 agree so much bro
I’m true to the 20 year old tune but this version Ian did is amazing ..... his whole album is unbelievable ✌️✌️
All I can say is this is one of the first CD's I've bought in a long long time and well worth it. You sir are inspiration.
Admittedly; this took a while to grow on me. Now I love it.
Headphones a must!

That...was... astounding. I feel like I just woke from a fantastic sleep.Thank you so much.
Watching this video.... ahhh.... I was thinking Ian's looking older now. Still good, but older. Then it dawned on me that I've been listening to his music for almost twenty-five years.
This song gives back memories, thank you.
Ian the Man

Jay Lane he’s happy and a new baby coming soon 😊

"Big Wreck" in Life!!!
Chills to the bone. This version haunts me...in the best way possible. Amazing.
The car was probably the first memory of him loving her and order to move on he had to destroy place in his mind where he just could never leave. This remake is so tragically beautiful just like the video. Well done Ian...Well done!
Haunting...
Matthew Good brought me here....got me to Big Wreck...got me here
Not usually a fan of songs being "redone" but, I haven't heard a version I didn't like! 👍

This song would have been perfect in a mob movie (The Departed, History of Violence, Eastern Promises) Especially seeing how the video opens
Amazing...

I'm so jealous , I saw him live with big wreck in 96 :)
He was fantastic! Shredding that guitar and I got so hammered by the end... Good times... Good times
Love it!
As much as I appreciate Big Wreck / Ian Thornley, this version, although stand-alone fantastic had it been released before the original, just doesn't stack up to the heart and energy of the "In Loving Memory" version.

2014 SUHR PARTY
In Life we as People are living in Wreck Why?
Dang..
LIFE. DD. out
I have a need to know what happened to his girlfriend. did she leave? Did she die? 😵
Divorce.
I think the question is referring to the characters in the video, not Ian Thornley's personal life.
I don't know if u read or care about the shit people type on here... but I have so many thoughts to ask u about music and future related..... including what I think the best remake u could do that the world has ever heard
What i want to know is how 5 people disliked this video?
The canadian equivalent to Chris Cornell
uncanny ..both superb
Not even sure who is the original singer for this song? too many people sings this song ...
