I never knew Original Sin was produced by Nile Rodgers! there's just no end to the man's brilliance, is there?!? I also find it very touching that Nile says that DD feels like his second band - long live DD and Nile Rodgers!
This song took my world by storm really when it came out! So I bought the 12 inch single, 7 inch single(poster pack) and of course the album(CD & vinyl).
This was the first or perhaps second HUGE song for me in my youth. Hungry Like The Wolf being the first. But I had just discovered 12" singles as a format. I was thrilled to find you could buy these things called "remixes". I loved hearing the elements of songs being separated and featured in this way. And I got The Reflex just before Christmas in '84 or so. I didn't realize that there was a full length Dance Mix. So I was BLOWN AWAY when I put the needle down on the record and the intro was broken down and longer ... and then I couldn't get over the full version ... the part when you hear Andy's chorus guitars alone ... WOW ... I listend to that track endlessly ... drove the whole family nuts over it. LOVE this record.
As an Aussie, amazing to hear Molly Meldrum had such a pivotal role in linking up Nile Rodgers and Duran Duran (via INXS's original sin). Incredibile !
Here comes one more masterpiece: the GRAPHIC DESIGN of their early singles(7" & 12") and their first 4 albums PLUS Arcadia's "So Red The Rose" & The Power Station.
Matt Ma Yes the album cover art is the best I've seen. They capture the magnetic essence of the band. My fave cover art is the one for the Reflex single which captures a strong magnetic power like you want to be them. The Arcadia album cover art is one of the most creative and brilliant ideas the 80s produced. Amazing.
I was 13 & loved this band! I mimicked Simon's move, where he sets one foot sideways & then steps over that foot & leg with the other leg! Loved this video! Never understood the meaning of the lyrics, which seems normal for the band. Still live them today!
My two fave bands Duran Duran and INXS. I think I love them both because of the Chic influence. Chic was one of my faves when I was young. You hear Chic, INXS, Duran Duran there ain't no way your not going to dance.
Nick has the best accent out of all of them.... but Simon is the most entertaining of them... Nick is a great story teller cause of his voice and Simon is also, but in a more joking light hearted way.... always dig listening to both of them.
I love it when Simon talks about INXS and "Original Sin"...nice one man!. The Reflex is one of the best Duran tracks ever, I loved it when it came out as a 12 year old and nearing my half century...it still sounds as great as it did back in the 80's and my love for it has never diminished.
Duran deserves every accolade! Simply amazing, often dismissed because of the fame achieved. They remain one of the most prolific, interesting, evolving, and creative bands! They are genius and deserve so much more respect.
Simon’s intro at Live Aid: “This one is about a little friend of mine and it’s called ‘The Reflex’.” Methinks it’s about Simon’s little member ... and “giant ig-goo-wan-uhhs.” 😆
That keyboard riff that leads off on the album version is so unique with the guitar finishing the phrase. I guess it was the perfect song to experiment with because it was strong enough you can't mess it up. I had the 12" and I liked the edited, extended and album versions of this song probably equally as much because the song itself was not lost in any of the mixes or arrangements....it seems apparent what the lyrics are about, but who am I to snitch....
Really fascinating! I love that your musical process was so collective and that you were so often on the same page. You have made some of the coolest-sounding music, no doubt about it! 🎵🎶❤
I love Niks explanation of the synth sound because some people claim he can't play but of course, he can. He laid a lot of stuff down in the studio and put it on disk so when they played live he could load up a lot of the synth parts pre recorded, therefore he wasn't jumping from keyboard to keyboard like a lunatic.. haha. Makes perfect sense.
Guys please....... I was hanging on every word especially the answer to “what’s the song about......” and the clip ended. I got the 12” the 7” the picture disk...... my favourite song of all time... Seriously, time to tell us......
Simon used to write _around_ the song using heavy metaphors. He doesn't do it so much anymore. The best explanations I've heard are sex/orgasm and drug addiction. Maybe it's like Steely Dan's Do It Again and it's about all kinds of addiction.
GRAHAMAUS I asked Simon on Twitter if it was about erections (because that’s what my dad told me when I was 15!), but Simon wouldn’t tell me. He made a joke that it was disturbing that I was having a convo with my dad about erections. 😂
I never knew Original Sin was produced by Nile Rodgers! there's just no end to the man's brilliance, is there?!? I also find it very touching that Nile says that DD feels like his second band - long live DD and Nile Rodgers!
Not only it was produced by Nile Rodgers Daryl Hall from Hall and Oats sings background on the track
@@byronbenguche Yea who knew, but if definitely has strong funky production vales, if you think about it, now we know why!
Duran had such unique songs. Lyrics, production, sound design, everything so original and stylish.
Love these guys! I’m almost 55yrs old now and still dancing to Reflex and Skin Trade!!!!!
Since 1984, my favorite song of all time. Second to none.
This song took my world by storm really when it came out! So I bought the 12 inch single, 7 inch single(poster pack) and of course the album(CD & vinyl).

Duran Duran made part of my life, i love synthesizers and Nick Rhodes !
Duran Duran is the best band on the planet. Masterpiece song, masterpiece album, master band.
Here comes one more masterpiece: the GRAPHIC DESIGN of their early singles(7" & 12") and their first 4 albums PLUS Arcadia's "So Red The Rose" & The Power Station.

Duran duran is the Best Band for me! I Love duran duran ! ♡♡♡♡♡❤
Sabine Wei Duran Duran is the best band in the world.. no joke
Truly THE BEST!!! ❤
My two fave bands Duran Duran and INXS. I think I love them both because of the Chic influence. Chic was one of my faves when I was young. You hear Chic, INXS, Duran Duran there ain't no way your not going to dance.
My favorite 80's band!!!
Nick has the best accent out of all of them.... but Simon is the most entertaining of them... Nick is a great story teller cause of his voice and Simon is also, but in a more joking light hearted way.... always dig listening to both of them.

Such a brilliant record, Simon's voice ahhhh...perfect!
So one of my favorite Duran Duran songs found part of its sound because of my absolute favorite INXS song. Very cool.
Kenton Kruger THATS what the guitar riff reminds me of!
I love when the guys talk about the work behind the D.D. hits.
I just love Duran Duran and all these story's they telling 😍😎😁
Duran deserves every accolade! Simply amazing, often dismissed because of the fame achieved. They remain one of the most prolific, interesting, evolving, and creative bands! They are genius and deserve so much more respect.
I love hearing the history behind their songs. 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Just look at my last name duran this is my favorite music band :)♥
Still waiting for Simon to pop back on screen with his explanation
Lucumu851 the minute he said he'd explain. I knew he was having a laugh. 😁
he can't because he doesn't know what its about LOL
It's theorized that it's about dealing with addiction. Simon has stated that he had 2 male relatives who were heavy gamblers.
Tell me about it!!!
Simon’s intro at Live Aid: “This one is about a little friend of mine and it’s called ‘The Reflex’.”
Methinks it’s about Simon’s little member ... and “giant ig-goo-wan-uhhs.” 😆
love nick rhodes such a class musician
The Relex was musically new at the time, kudos to Duran Duran :)
Also the shout-out they did to INXS that was a class move
Ah yes, Nick, there are some of us still around that remember floppy disks 😂
As a graphic designer I love the cover art work on this. Its so 80s! Now I gotta go look up some Miami Vice logos.
More like this PLEASE!!
One of thee best bands for their time.
I sing this all the time!

SUPERLATIVE BANDA ☆☆☆ I LOVE This BAND from Argentina & ROSARIO CENTRAL ( Central Railways Athletic Club )
Really fascinating! I love that your musical process was so collective and that you were so often on the same page. You have made some of the coolest-sounding music, no doubt about it! 🎵🎶❤
Oh my God this was awesome! Please do one of these for Every. Single. Song. #yespleasethankyou #floppydisksrock
LOVE this. Can you do a "how it came to be" for EVERY song you've ever recorded?
JediSiouxsie Lol😀👍
they certainly wouldn't want to do one for "Girls on Film"
One of Duran Durans greatest tracks and one of the greatest songs ever written
love U NICK!
One of my favorite songs of theirs, love it!
That explains why they got heavy rotation on BET and R&B stations the Reflex had a funk & soul sound too it you can hear the Chic influence on it
Simon is brilliant and funny as hell
Now I’d understand why I loved “The Reflex”, because it was heavily influenced by Nile Rodger’s and Diana Ross’ 1980 “Diana” album.
Nicks voice 😍
Oh do tell Simon and tell us about the lyrics to Come Undone. Been working on the track for a year and 1/2.
I want to give Simon Le Bon A pipe & velvet robe. Make him the new host of Masterpiece Theater!
He would be perfect!
LeBon's lyrics are up to the individual figure out! Somehow, they work!
I LOVE YOU GUYS, I wish you could do this kind of vid for every single song... ❤❤❤❤
Thank you for making and sharing this.
P.S. Simon, feel free to send me that jacket. :)
the original sin is my favorite inxs song too.
I love Niks explanation of the synth sound because some people claim he can't play but of course, he can. One of the most important songs of my life.
I ❤ hearing these Duran Duran stories. Long live D2 🖒🖒🖒💖💕YES Simon please tell us what the song's about. 😂😂😃😍
Guys please....... I was hanging on every word especially the answer to “what’s the song about......” and the clip ended.
I got the 12” the 7” the picture disk...... my favourite song of all time...
Seriously, time to tell us......
It's about a penis, and the way that erections occur whether you want them or not.
Simon used to write _around_ the song using heavy metaphors. He doesn't do it so much anymore. The best explanations I've heard are sex/orgasm and drug addiction. Maybe it's like Steely Dan's Do It Again and it's about all kinds of addiction.
I heard it was about masturbation.
GRAHAMAUS I asked Simon on Twitter if it was about erections (because that’s what my dad told me when I was 15!), but Simon wouldn’t tell me. He made a joke that it was disturbing that I was having a convo with my dad about erections. 😂
Kevin Cooper I have the picture album too! ❤️DD
This song went #1 because this song was perfect for Simon's vocals. I think this was the best he's ever sounded in a song in his whole career to date.
Tchanana tchanana tchananannnnnnn the the the the reflex the reflex the reflex flex flex flex
Roger sad the true. The Reflex is Monster and meisterpice Track.
I love this song
John has to change his hair. Something classic yet modern with edge and texture like Simon's or Nick's styles would suit him so much better.
The title is misleading though isn't it? I didn't see Nile Rodgers reminisce in that video !!! LOL
Simon 😍
Oooo this is a good one.
Totally hear Diana Ross on this!!! Absolutely! Love this!
2:12 never knew that Nick used an _E-mu Emulator II_
Why don't you guys perform this at your concerts? Frigging AWESOME SONG!!!
Faith in this colour
Camera is 'over exposed' for Nick & John segments.
...but it hides wrinkles well :D
DuranDuran is a Gemini band
Nick just told you how he creates two different melodies and combines them
This is musical genius
MOLLY!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
John Taylor!! The funkiest bass player to come out of the UK besides Mark King from Level 42!
DD Mon amour depuis toujours !!!
Oh Simon, will you really never tell???
Love DYRAN DYRAN😄😅😆
According to Andy Taylor's autobiography, The Reflex is Nick Rhodes.
?
Molly meldrum!!😊
Love Molly
Simon’s so cute with a beard
I know they'll disagree with me, but I was always partial to the plain vanilla album version.
Where's the rest of this?
Nile Rodgers is not in this video, but it’s still interesting.
John Taylor makes a mullet look sexy
Nick looks like he's about to murder someone Dexter-style in that room... That's some suspicious plastic arrangement, my dude.
Lmbo! You make a Good Point 😂😂😂
i'd say Patrick Bateman-style, but i dont see the style section covering the floor.
Im still waiting simon still waiting??????
Was Union of the Snake as popular back then?
No, from what I remember the reflex was absolutely everywhere that year. Union of the snake was a hit but nothing like the reflex.
What's with the plastic on the walls and artwork, Nick??
England was too chaotic :) They were bigger than Meghan Markle :)
Why can't I subscribe to this channel?
0:31 '.....giant iguanas.' :-D
what's it all about, (Alphie) Simon?
Simon, you still haven't answered that FAQ...
GEAST SONG!!!
Inxs next
Hallo Simon Lebon Pucci Cinzia😀😀😀
Where is Andy Taylor?
I know what the reflex is.
👍
Simon and Jason Bateman could change places and no one would be the wiser...
Matt Jones very true, I always thought he should play him in the movie.
Matt Jones That isvery true! They're indistinguishable.. but simon is better as we all agree
Ha! They were my two biggest crushes growing up!
I’ve always said the same thing!!!
I always thought that too! LOL!!! But Simon is still the best!! :)
DURAN DURAN THE BEST NN INVECCHIATE MAI SIETE ANKORA MLT GIOVANI I LOVE YOU BY SISSY 85
One snippet from John and Roger? And where was Andy in all of this?
The song is basically about Indiana Jones and his adventures finding lost artifacts of the past.
2:48
THOUGHT THE SONG WAS TELLING PEOPLE TO USE THEIR ASSETS AND NO STAND ON CEREMONY IN THE LAWS OF ATTRACTION.
OMG, what the bloody did happen to John?
Duran Duran didn't hear of INXS before Original Sin? So they weren't keeping up with other artists of the early 80s. Fascinating.
