These guys helped launch MTV, for those that aren't aware, when MTV first launched it was mainly videos before there was anyplace else to watch them. Kids like myself, would just spend hours watching the channel and Duran Duran's videos were very impressive for the time.
Thanks for listening!
They still are today! All from Duran Duran. They know the filmmakers to use.
yes, it was so exciting to see new videos. They were so huge! I liked John Taylor & Nick Rhodes best
@@k53ss22Thanks for watching!
I always start my mornings MTV-80s Fantastic channel 👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️
The most underrated band in music history and one of the most important. They shaped the 80’s music scene and pioneered videos and they still produce great albums.
underrated by who?
Hardly underrated
There’s no way they are/were underrated
So many people don’t understand what that word means and it’s a word used far to frequently
You seriously think that the music press and general perception of this band isn’t underrated when all they are ever touted as is an 80’s band, and every single time they are interviewed they are reminded constantly of their days as “new romantics” and past fashions! I’d say that counts as being underrated for their musicality, accomplishments in record sales and influence on other musicians.
@@darrenhill6225 They are shortly being inducted into the hall of fame, yes underrated my arse 🎵
Simon Le Bon is a legend. First time I’ve seen him on the Jimmy Kimmel Show.
Love Duran Duran! Congrats on the Hall of Fame induction next month! 🙂
Keep watching!
Let me have your email!
Not next month. Next week my dear.
They should have been inducted 20 years ago but better late than never.
He’s not only a great singer, but also fun to listen to in interviews.❤
And on top of all of that, he’s got a great soul…an empath - a great human.
Disagree, I think he has a a unique and distinctive voice, which most great artists possess. But of course we like what we like.
I had massive crush on him thru out 80's. Ayyyyeeeeeeee 😜
Great singer?? He's down there with Bob Geldof..in the basement.
@@spanishpeaches2930 they were both able successfully, to communicate their lyrics in their own style regardless if you think they can sing or not.
I cant even say how much I loved this band. Duran Duran and Depeche Mode are the most incredible bands ever!
Xney on Depechey, comprenez?
I'm a Duran Fan since 1986, I grew up with them, they are and will be always my favourite group!!!!
I've been since 1982
@@edp3202 Me too. "Girls On Film" was the first DD song I was introduced to...
Simon Le Bon, very talented, handsome and smart guy
Love the band, Simons voice singing live just gets better and better
Unlike on the night of Live Aid 🤣
@@SamLowryDZ-015 true
This man has always been super easy on the eyes🥰🥰
One of my favorite voices ever. Love Duran Duran.
Been Duranie since 1983. Listened to them all day today. Especially, since it's Simon's 64th birthday. Only seen them twice in concert. Better than not at all. 🎸 🎤 🎶
64? Dayum he looks amazing!
Could somebody please pick my jaw up off of the floor??????
There were not enough emojis to do them justice.
6 times for me
My big brother pitilessly mocked me for loving Duran Duran back in the 80s, only to shock the hell out of me twenty years later saying "I only said those things to rile you up, they were great and still are". We were able to attend a Duran Duran gig in 2004. It was an incredible gig and one of my best adventures with my brother. I'm not well enough to attend gigs anymore but I've been lucky to see them live many times in the past. I'm so glad they were eventually inducted into the rock & roll hall of fame but I'm really sorry to hear Andy has cancer.
This was great, the back and forth was wonderful and Simon is just so much fun. Duran Duran deserves the induction, they have incredible staying power and the ability to flow with the times while still remaining true to themselves. Been a fan of Duran Duran since the beginning and Kimmel does a great job of the interview.
Great composer and singer, Le Bon.
Composers write music, but Simon writes lyrics.
Duran Duran were the BEST band of the 80’s!! The BEST music videos! (Planet Earth, My Own Way, Rio, Careless Memories……). They sold over 100 MILLION albums!!! Incredible!!
Simon le Bon is too smart for this show. I knew this was going to be awkward for him. Happy Birthday Simon!
He looked a bit tired.
It must be a drag to DO the PRESS tour all day for two weeks straight.
It wasn't awkward
How was this awkward???
Too smart? He’s just a pop singer not the guy who cured cancer !
Agreed, I thought the questions were a bit inane.
I'm beyond happy that Duran Duran are finally being inducted into the Rock Hall! It's long overdue, seeing as they were among the true video pioneers of the early 80s, but better late than never! Duran Duran forever!!! ❤️
80s was best decade to be young. Miss it so much.
Me too - and the music especially... Bands like Simple Minds, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode and U2 were pure energy - I have so many memories from back then
Been loving Simon since I was 8. I'm 47 now ❤️
Geez, Simon looks good as ever.
Not bad for 64 years old today eh 👍🏼
Me screaming along with the audience!!!!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Keep watching!
I am an extremely avid fan of Duran Duran and this was a wonderful interview thank you for doing this
Our first dance at our wedding was “Come Undone”!! We both loved the song so much but perhaps didn’t think about the lyrics! Nevertheless still married after 25 years ❤
That’s kind of funny actually.
Where did find that person?
Hey at least it wasn't the Police's "stalker song". lol
About freakin time! DD had a sound all of their own! They paved the way for many 80s style music.
They still have a sound all their own and their last album is one of their best. It's called Future Past. Check it out.
Simon looks amazing!
Keep watching!
Back in 1988 I watched them live in Brazil... That was a fantastic concert, they were(and still are) so cool.
I watched this while eating the birthday cake I got specifically for Simon's birthday (well, Simon LeBon and John Cleese). Happy birthday Simon!
I loved seeing Duran Duran when they were here in Toronto. Hearing them play their old stuff and their new stuff really shows that they have maintained a caliber of excellence throughout the years!
Congratulations on your induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this weekend. Well deserved!
I'm so happy to come across this interview! I tried for over 20 years to see them in concert. Duran Duran were meant to be my first concert as a teen. I had tickets to a show that got postponed in the early 90s and finally saw them in Seoul, South Korea in the early 2010s! Happiest moment!
Live Aid 1985 was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. Wembley was one of Queen and Freddie Mercury's best performances ever. Love Duran Duran forever.
...
An amazing human being from a truly amazing band whom I've followed for over 40 years already got my tickets for a Hollywood High...Next week will be truly memorable 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️💋
I was about 10 yrs old, when I first heard a Duran Duran song, probably The Reftex... I've loved them ever since...😊😊😊
Same here. But I was about 7. Happy New Year to you!
@@pisto30 Thanx, the same to you!
"There's so many comebacks, we haven't gone away!!" I love you, Simon Le Bon!
DD are my youth and my present. Wrongly labeled as Band of the 80s they are pillars of music history. Plus their knowledge of music is enormous. I don’t recall how many times I saw them live. I still treasure those vibes. They deserve their place in the Music Hall of Fame and it was time
The Reflex! My all-time favorite pop song ever!
Love me some Simon LeBon. He looks amazing!!!!
I just felt old when Jimmy said 40 years ago. I had a crush on him back in the days
Have always adored Duran Duran, and was lucky enough to meet them at an album signing years ago. Simon was also kind enough to chat to one of my friends on the phone, as well. Nicest lads ever, plus killer on stage.
They have never been better live! One of the GREATEST BANDS OF ALL TIME!
For the first time in my life, I was able to buy a Duran Duran satin tour jacket from 1983. They label the jackets as “vintage“. Lol! I do not care that I cannot fit into it, I have my dream concert jacket! I am damn near 50 years old and I’m able to afford one now. I saw Duran Duran back in 2016, for the first time and I loved every second of it! It was as if I was a kid again. I hope to see them again. They are just as phenomenal today as they were 40 years ago.
Lucky To Have Met Mr. Le Bon
Many Years Ago
Down To Earth Human Being.
Great Live Band As Well With Duran Duran
Caught The Current Tour At MSG
Worth Every Penny
I love Duran Duran since age 15 and they sound awesome 40 years later
Thanks for listening!
I'd do anything just to spend 5 minutes alone with Simon le bon. He seems like such a nice man
Just when I thought that I couldn't love Simon more...💜💙💜
I was in love with Duran Duran and especially Simon LeBon, it’s been 41 years since I first heard Planet Earth and I was hooked at 13.
So iconic
80s and 90s was a great decades for music
And you wanted to dance
So I asked you to dance
But fear is in your soul
Some people call it a one night stand
But we can call it paradise
Just wanna say Duran Duran is STILL so good live! I saw them a few years ago on tour with the great Nile Rodgers. I'll never forget it. Esp since I was such a huge fan in the 80s, and saw them perform back then!
Saw them at the Hollywood Bowl last month - incredible surreal experience! Careless Memories was a highlight.
Another hour of this please! 🥳
He looks young still. He's a good banterer of wits to match Kimmel.
The Reflex, finally the truth comes out! One of the most underrated bands out there, period.
I have been a fan of Duran Duran since 1982, they have made some incredible music and videos over the years, they are brilliant live band, after 40, years they are still making great music and touring, Duran Duran greatest band ever
So grateful to have grown up in the 80's.
Simon still looks youthful, he's obviously an unpretentious guy with alot of talent and charisma.
"I'm on the hunt, I'm after you" I've been singing it wrong for 40yrs 😆👏🏾
I always thought it was "I'm on the hunt down after you...".
@@michaelrmurphy2734 Same!!! 😂
Duran Duran love them for so many years
One of the only reasons I would ever watch Jimmy anymore. D2 rules. Congratulations!!!
My favorite band of all time. I was about 6 when they started hitting their stride with their first major album
Happy Birthday Simon
Still all these years Simon is so gorgeous.
Huge Duran fan since I was a teen walking down the beach singing Save a Prayer to myself. I always knew I was right about them, and after a few decades the critics finally started to get it. I also totally agree with Jimmy that "Do They Know it's Christmas" is a great song. I always thought the song and even the name BandAid showed how much better more creative the Brit rock/pop scene was at the time than America with it's dull and cloying USAforAfrica.
Happy 64th Birthday, Simon, 10/27! They were on Kimmel on my birthday, 10/26. Nice bday gift for me!
I love Simon and the Duran Duran band so much!!!
We love you very much from Israel Jerusalem
Damn, he looks great ! Being a fan of Duran Duran for 40 years !!
I can't believe he's 64!! He looks like he's in his 40's.
Si knows how to turn on the charm! Happy birthday, dude!!!!
Thanks for listening!
Duran Duran stole American nation with their music and friendliness to the world. I'm a Durranie since 1982.
What an awesome interview.
Side story: Was in Tokyo in the early 80s and happened by the Keio Plaza hotel by chance where all these Japanese fan-girls were hoping to catch a glimpse of the band (who I had no idea were staying at the hotel) when one girl saw me (random white guy) and started shrieking, which started a chain reaction...
😅
Lol! Love it!
How fun!
Simon and his tiger baby necklace... he is lookin' great!
HUGE fan when I was a teenager. Duran Duran was my first live concert when I was 14. Saw them again live with my sister a few years back. They are still amazing all these years later!
😍 My favourite singer and band of all time! Simon, you look amazing, happy birthday😘 You all guys look fantastic and ALWAYS sound incredible!!!
Simon is aging like a fine wine. 😍
_Bon_ ...Simon Le Bon! 📺💿
They were one of the best concert performers I’ve seen in my lifetime. So entertaining and talented.
One of the best live shows I will ever see. I love this band, huge influence.
i have i huge admiration for Duran Duran since 1985 i am portuguese
Love!!!!! Simon still looks and sounds amazing!!! But he spent so much time on Live Aid and lyrics they didn’t get to talk about the HOF induction.. oh well!!
What a great interview! And a fantastic band.
Congratulations to Simon and the rest of the guys on being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...Well deserved and I remember when MTV made it's debut in August of 1981,"HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF" was one of the first videos to come on the air... Very revolutionary at the time...
HLTW came out in 1982, but Planet Earth and Girls on Film were out in 1981. Though GOF couldn't really get played in its unedited version on MTV until late @ night, if at all.
Good morning Ma'am and Ty for your feedback and I started corrected that HLTW was released in 1982 and I do remember Planet Earth and Girls in Film well but and like I mentioned before kudos to Duran Duran and I appreciate your feedback... Stay safe and God bless 🙏🙏🙏
I used to have a massive purple poster of Duran Duran on my wall in 1984!!!They rock💥
LEGEND!
He was my crush when i was a teen.. my fave band
Preston, you are an amazing man. Truly inspirational.
I think we all took it for granted that music would always be that good. If only...
Amazing!!! My all time favorite singer. I was so happy to see him! and he did an amazing job singing. I like the song Invisible! 😊
Superb interview.
Keep watching!
These guys MADE MTV, Hungry Like the Wooooooooooooolf!!!
Any young folks out there should listen to Duran Duran
Thank God, they do 🎆🎆
I’m 13, my friend is 13 and my sister is 16! We are all die hard duran fans and saw them in Hyde park BST!
@@topaz_floof7449 wow! thats amazing! super cool. I was 12 or 13 when they first came out in 86. You know its good when new generations are into it
@@lauratomczak6797 That’s so cool too! Me, my friend and my sister, we all wish we were teens in the 80s!
@@lauratomczak6797 Actually, their first album debuted in 1981, and by the following year they were bona fide rock stars, mainly due to Rio, Hungry Like the Wolf, and Save a Prayer. ❤️
Been a fan since Live Aid, will die a fan!!! Thank you for great music! Love you guys! 💙💙💙
I love them! Have for 40 years!!!!
Wow! After 38 years since the release of “The Reflex,” Simon finally hints at the meaning of the song’s cryptic lyrics. Jimmy: “Why don’t you use it, try not to bruise it. What are we trying not to bruise in that song?” Simon: “Use your imagination Jimmy.” Priceless response!
I just love him
Simon is the man!
My fave band since I was kid
Let us all pray for our beloved Andy... wish him the BEST of LUCK.......
For LIVE AID, Phil Collins flew on the Concorde and performed on both continents. ❤️🎵
Duran Duran was my favorite to watch during the concert. 💯
They are incredible!
