I recognize the greatness of Duran Duran, but can't articulate it as well as POR does. Flipping Undun, Union of the Snake, New Moon on Monday are amazing songs too, but Re-election Day and Is There Something I Should Know rank with Hungry Like the Wolf as their best imo.
Duran Duran your music it’s timeless, amazing and simply genius, one of the joys of my life it’s to have the luck to hear your masterpieces, I sincerely thank you!
Awesome bass player, and the most ridiculously handsome men in music history especially as he got older. And just thinking of " Do do do do do do do do" automatically makes me feel great. Excuse me now I'm off to Spotify.
The Chauffeur is an underrated masterpiece. A juxtaposition of soaring and rapid vocals layered over a dense hypnotic track. Some of the best lyrical content and unbelievably good production. Starts off purely electronic and introduces the band for a powerful outro section. Just so well done
"I know the answer, but I'm asking you the question..." A magical moment of our lifetime, not just in 1980's music. Brilliant lyricist - brilliant team.
I teach sophomores. I play music between classes all the time. When I play Planet Earth or Save a Prayer kids come up to me all of the time and ask, “What is this? I like this.” And when I show the video of Save a Prayer on the screen between classes, the girls still stop and look at Duran Duran like it’s 1984 all over again. There’s good reason to believe that there’s hope for new great music from these young kids. I see it in them all of the time.
@@donnalynn2 A lot of Duranies are kinda tired of it though. We hear it every tour and it's gotten to the point of this (along with Ordinary World) becoming our bathroom break/beer run songs. We don't hate it... just want to hear something different for a change.
It’s tragic that most people and pop culture as a whole mostly remember Duran Duran as one of the early ‘pretty boy bands’ when in fact, as stated, they were anything but that. Wrote their own music, played their own instruments.. really, really well.. they’ll always be one of my favorite bands for the simple fact they are real musicians in a real band. The amazing music they created goes without selling. Top 5 songs off the top of my head tho.. 5: skin trade 4: the chauffeur 3: union of the snake 2: so misled 1: do you believe in shame?
Let’s face it by 93 DD was long dead, and a relic of the the 80’s. I’ll never forget stopping by my fathers and clicking on MTV, and Ordinary World came on.. I watched, and after i was like holy shit these guys pulled it off. Great song, and they looked great.
I grew up loving Duran Duran in the 80's. So when the early 90's came around, I heard their songs like Come Undone and remember thinking, "Man, Duran Duran is back at the top again. They did it again."
That song is what made me a fan I’d seen their videos and pictures and I didn’t really care, until my friend played me that song and I was blown the fuck away
It's hard for me to overstate the impact this band had on me. I started dating my first girlfriend at 15 in 1984, and she introduced me to them, often playing Seven and the Ragged Tiger while we went through the timeless rituals of first love. She actually looked like the girl on the cover of Rio, in terms of her facial structure and piercing eyes, although blonde, not brunette. All these years later, I still have pretty much all their albums and even many 12" vinyl remixes, which I have introduced to my wife, who also strangely enough, is quite a bit younger than I (she was born after Duran Duran's heyday in the 1980s), and looks even more beautiful than my first love. I also remember going to a Duran Duran concert in 2003 in Toronto in a night club. It was the original line up, and despite having a free 2nd ticket, I couldn't find any one of my friends to go with me, so I gave it to an absolutely gob-smacked woman just outside who didn't have a ticket. I'll never forget how awesome it was to stand at the bar of the club (The Government), order a gin and tonic, and then, as I squeezed the lime into my drink, turned to see not 30 ft from me, Simon, John, Andy, Roger and Nick, playing and sounding as incredible as ever. Life can be profoundly wonderful and strange at the same time. Affection to all those who still know how good Duran Duran are.
I have been a Duranie for going on 40 years and I feel like they've never really gotten their proper recognition. As songwriters and musicians, they're truly underrated, especially John Taylor. His bass playing is so gorgeous and melodic.
@@elvinventucillo4501 yeah, just because teenage girls back in the day went crazy for them, they were immediately written off as worthless. Because fuck forbid any teenager like anything, amirite?
I've been obsessed with them since 93. Right from their debut, such extraordinary, complex, lyrics, production, and musicianship you don't expect from a bunch of pretty boys most of the time. They have so much personality off stage too and are fun to watch in interviews. They also had the most interesting video concepts., even album art.
This brought me to tears. 😪 I've always said they were not a boy band. They have poetic, enigmatic, melancholic, catchy lyrics. Their incredible musicianship is unique, dark, ethereal, and fun. Chameleons, they are. Each album displays another facet of their personality. "The Chauffeur" is my all-time favorite song of ANY artist. And please never forget Arcadia's So Red the Rose. 🖤
"The Chauffeur" is my all-time favourite song too. I was worried "The Man who Stole a Leopard" would be a pale imitation. So delighted to be proved wrong.
This brought me to tears too. I loved to listen and analyze their music when I was a teen in the 80’s. I appreciate POR’s detail in his description. This band defined my generation.
John Taylor is the reason why many picked up the Bass (or even flipped their guitar for a bass). His lines are a joy to play. A wonderful disciple of the late Bernard Edwards.
Incidentally, Bernard Edwards played with John Taylor that incredible bass solo on "Get It On", during Power Station. Yeah, that's the kind of sh1t that got me into playing bass.
I've been a Duranie for 37 years. DD is still inspiring kids today. My now 18-year-old son is a Duranie and makes music because of Duran Duran. He taught himself how to play keyboards and bass. He has introduced his friends to DD. We had the pleasure to meet the guys in Las Vegas back in Sept 2019. It was surreal to see my son just casually chatting with Simon. Which added fuel to his fire to create. #DuranDuran4ever #DD40
Adam is so sincere and passionate about what he does it makes me feel like whatever band he is talking about is the best band in the world. Every damn one of them :) Always a joy to take the time to watch these.
Careless Memories stands out for me as a fan of their entire library and a teen in the 80’s who later drew musical inspiration from them. Actually I find myself drawn more and more to their self titled album as their most pure new wave music, with each successive album drawing increased inspiration from American R&B, pop, and funk. JT’s bass work was always influence by the syncopated styles of disco and R&B, but his application of syncopated bass lines in these early albums was masterful and served as the foundation of their sound and somehow came across as anything but disco/R&B in these songs. Later on as we get into the Notorious years, they are nearly full on funk/R&B and Thats when I began losing interest in the band because I felt there were far better funk bands to listen to at the time.
I agree with your list 1000% although Save A Prayer has always been my favorite. I have held a grudge about Ordinary World or anything produced after the original line up until I listened to Ordinary World again recently. It really is amazing how it applies to so many things.
I hope the members of Duran Duran watch this. This is what us, real Duran2 fans, think of their music. Thank you! Been a Duranie since early 80s. I got to see them on their Seven and the Ragged Tiger tour in 84, and even 'tho it's been so long... I always keep coming back to their music. My favorite D2 songs: Ordinary World, Save a Prayer, Come Undone, Out of my Mind, What happens tomorrow, New Religion... and so many other.
Duran Duran, their music so catchy. Especially "Hungry Like the Wolf." It's a shot to the psyche that starts 100 mph. But they were disposable pop right? Okay, "Save it for the Morning After" was different. And yeah "View To A Kill" was a grown up song. But nothing prepares you for "Ordinary World." It's godamned profound. It's dark, it's bleak but it's not a drag to listen to. Why? I think it's because by all accounts Simon Le Bon and the guys lived that which they spoke. The worldwide audience knew it, knows it and gets its theme: Won't give up no matter what.
Mine was the over played on the radio Girls on Film and of course Hungry Like the Wolf for me❤️😀❤️😀 I still have posters of them when they came out fresh and brand new and their original cassette tapes as well to this day and other 80s singers/band posters and tapes as well too; on my bedroom walls❤️😀❤️😀
Duran Duran, the best 80`s band ever. They are the most underrated band in the planet by far. All their music are faboulous and they are producing new and great songs until these days. All their records are great and people should pay more attention. Even the marvelous cover albun thank you is perfect. You could make a vídeo only with the B-sides. As you said. DD is timeless. Thank You PROFESSOR for the vídeo.
I 100% agree with you !!! They're working oN a NeW ReCoRD. I thiNK the current state oF thE world aT the moment may haVE slowed things DoWN. Have yoU seen them LiVE ?
Duranie since 83!!! I've seen them in concert 13 times. First time in LA in 84. And I was at both 02 concerts this year. They still put on an amazing show.
Simon wrote the amazing lyrics, but guitarist Warren Cuccurullo who joined the band in 1986 deserves to be mentioned since he was the primary composer of the masterpiece "Ordinary World".
I was touched to my core that Duran Duran were so influenced by Roxy Music. But. If you listen , you can hear it. Right from the start. Well done gents 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I liked their early songs like “Planet Earth” and “Girls on Film” the best. These songs were the exciting beginnings of an innovative band. What fun the eighties were!
Something else not often remarked upon are their instrumentals! Tel Aviv is amazing - and Tiger Tiger feels like an anthem of the 80s because it opened their biggest shows and is used on Sing Blue Silver and As The Lights Go Down (every Durannie knows what I’m talking about) - so atmospheric.
It saddens me a bit when one of the greatest songs ever, 'A Matter of Feeling,' is never mentioned even by Duran Duran fans. "Steal away in the morning love’s already history to you. It’s a habit you’re forming this body’s desperate for something new. Just a matter of feeling this moment’s madness sure to pass. And tears will dry as you’re leaving who knows you might find something to last." Great video Professor, keep it up.
Love "A Matter of Feeling" !!! And it would have charted better than "Meet El Presidente", undoubtedly. it could've been the "Save a Prayer" song for that album.
One of my favourite lyrics (and I love the whole Notorious album), together with Seventh Stranger: a year of Sundays seems to have drifted right by, I could have sworn, in one evening.
I was obsessed with this song ...nostalgic and beautifully tragic but slightly hopeful. A masterpiece of nuanced emotion with lyrics that resonate with a deja vu familiarity that hooks me in deep. Glad to know Im not the only one.
I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say Ordinary World is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. It sure is to me. Every time I here it on the radio or TV, I have to stop everything and listen. I have no choice. Great video Adam. Thanks
My mom was a dig fan of Duran Duran. She would alway play them when we was kids. RIP mom. I would play Duran Duran every time I miss her. Just seeing your you tube just make me think of my mom.
Just like Hall & Oates, Duran Duran songs are incredibly infectious. I can listen to their songs regardless of my mood. Top 5 1. Lonely in Your Nightmare 2. The Reflex 3. Wild Boys 4. Is There's Something I Should Know? 5. Hunger Like The Wolf Could you please make a video about INXS? Thank you for this video.
Thank you so much for giving Duran Duran their due. It kills me when they are categorized or derided as a "boy band" when they are clearly impactful musicians and song writers. They definitely made up the bulk of my teen soundtrack, I can't imagine those years without them! I wasn't able to see them in concert during the 80's as my mom had a ridiculous rule about going to concerts. But once I started going to their shows, I haven't stopped. I did (in 2005) finally get to see the original fab 5 lineup too, while they lasted. I lost my voice for three days afterward; it was worth it.
Man. I will never forget seeing Hungry Like the Wolf on Friday Night Videos for the first time. Glad I was there live. Sorry kids of today you won't ever have that feeling like us old kids.
I remember when MTV started doing premiere videos. I'll never forget when Wham! Everything She Wants the video was going to debut in MTV. They promoted the heck out of it for a week. The first time you could watch it was on a particular night and time. My dad put thr VCR in the other room so I could watch and record it. I was so excited. I then proceeded to rewatch it over and over for like an hour after. It was that video that began my obsession with George Michael.
Brilliant perspective on this band. At the time in 82,83 I wanted nothing to do with them as the hysteria drove me crazy. Hearing is there something I should know and saying wow, I like this song then my cousin laughing at me cause she knew there was a new Duranie born.. Yep over 40 years later they tower over kiss as my 2 favorite lifetime bands. Some other songs I think deserve recognition are… New Religion, Salt in the Rainbow, Hold Back the Rain (US Version), Is there something, Land, Sunrise, First Impression. Great work Adam!
I've seen Duran Duran in concert and they are terrific!!! They ended the show with "Wild Boys" and I am not a boy but they just rocked it with that song. 1. Notorious, 2. A View to A Kill 3. Save a Prayer 4. None of the Above 5. Ordinary World. Just too many to mention!!!!!! Hey thanks for the info about Simon not being the 1st lead singer. I never knew that.
Been a Duranie for more than 30 years. The worth and value of their contribution to pop music is surely underrated. Ironically there were those who thought they were overrated in the eighties. But the joy and enthusiasm they generate through their music is a marvel. The soundtrack to many lives. Ad Multos Annos Duran Duran.
I’m a member of a Duran Duran tribute band in Houston, Texas called Radio Duran. It’s an honor to present their music live and Duran’s music is still very relevant with today’s music goers for multiple reasons. Learning JT’s bass parts lick for lick has certainly made me a better bassist!
My Top 5 Duran Duran songs: Hold Back The Rain, The Chauffeur (Arena version), Save A Prayer, Friends of Mine, Ordinary World. But so many other greats: Lonely in Your Nightmare, The Seventh Stranger (Arena version), A View to a Kill, Wild Boys, New Religion, Planet Earth, My Own Way (fast version). Also great music from side projects of Arcadia and Power Station.
I would get out of school in the mid-80s, walk across the street to the pizza place, and have a few slices while playing "Hungry Like The Wolf" on the jukebox. Good times. Thanks, POR, for illuminating the memories like you always do.
I was a late comer when it came to Duran Duran. It was a new moon on Monday and seven and the ragged Tiger that hooked me. One of my best friends at the time gave me the first three albums to listen to in full! from that point on I have been a Duranie ever sense! I was 14 at the time. I just turned 50. They are my go to band every day. I could not imagine not hearing John’s baseline in hungry like the wolf, or careless memories or ordinary world. They are such an amazing band and so underrated by the critics. If they would’ve just sat down and listen to all their Music they would’ve understood what we already did, That they were simply amazing. I would have to say my top five Duran Duran songs would be number one new Moon on Monday, 2, hungry like the wolf, three, new religion, 4, careless memories, and 5, Union of the snake. However all their albums during the 80s and early 90s were phenomenal. The liberty album is so good and yet people don’t even recognize it. It’s such a shame. And one of the all-time best albums was the wedding album! Bar none, every song on that album is phenomenal. Every song on that album is so good. Duran Duran is simply by far one of the best bands ever. Thank you John thank you Simon thank you Nick thank you Roger thank you Andy!!!
I have 2 older sisters. My oldest sister's favorite was Andy, the other's favorite was Roger, & mine was John. We all fought over Simon! Lol! I remember Mtv aired a concert in about '84-'85 (I was about 8-9) & my mom actually let me stay up pretty late to see it. I think it might have been live & I was up until probably about 2am! I ended up seeing them in concert in '93 with the Cranberries opening for them! Linger had just hit, but I had no idea who the Cranberries were. My middle sister got me the tickets so I could see Duran Duran live. So awesome! I can't remember who went with me but I remember that they just went for the Cranberries. I ran into my first love there w/ his then g/f. I think he only liked Duran Duran because I once told him he looked like Simon! Lol! Such great memories.
I loved DD as a teen and was finally able to see them in concert at age 50. I enjoyed the Nostalgic moment, however I was surprised how meaningful there songs were. As we age we have many more experiences of life, so their lyrics have become more relatable and powerful to me now.
Thank you, Professor of Rock, for finally giving this band the credit they deserve. I'm 24 and fell in love with their music thanks to a family friend, a radio DJ, who believed in their sound and introduced me to their music when I was 12. All You Need Is Now came out when I was 14 and ever since, has been one of my favorite albums ever. It truly is their second and very modern-sounding "Rio." An album that easily could have been a hit on alternative radio stations here in the US. Keep up the great work in covering the greatest decade of rock ever... The 80s!
Growing up at this time, I was the biggest Duran Duran fan. Watched MTV for hours just waiting for their videos. Especially “The Reflex”, “The Wild Boys” & “A View to a Kill” When they came back with The Wedding Album, even though I was now in my teens, it made me even more of a fan. These guys are absolutely LEGENDARY and their music remains timeless. I
I grew up in the 1980s and I do remember from 1981 to 1984, Duran Duran was the biggest band in the world, far bigger than Queen, Dire Straits, U2 etc before they split into two packs in 1985. Sad at the time. Glad they got back together again in the 90s.
These cats never broke up...sure there were lineup changes, departures, separate group projects, periods of time off/away from the spotlight...but there was never a breakup in the history of the group...
The chauffeur is my favorite song by them not many people know it, I love Duran Duran, it’s very different from all their other songs..but I love them period . You should listen to it. It’s in the Rio album
The Man Who Stole a Leopard, if you haven't heard this song, listen to it now. One of their best songs, on par with the songs on their 1st two records.
Respect for Recognising Duran Duran. Top envelope pushing. Master musicians ànd John Taylor has a sound like the late Mick Karn/Japan Quiet Life fame. And they have an Album peaking in 2023.❤🎉😊
Thank you for this. I was a teenage girl in the '80s, who stared at their pictures/videos, loved their looks and overall style, but I always thought they were immense talents as well. I grew up on '60s, '70s, '80s rock, hard rock, but loved their "new wave" music just as much. They will forever hold a major place in my heart. Their music stands the test of time. They are great people too.
One of the best 80's band. Plus they knew how to market themselves? Very good & strong songs. It didn't get much better back in the 80's. Also MTV helped their cause. Plus a #1 hit with a James Bond theme, also excellent!
Duran Duran was/is by far the greatest group of the 80s and really the only group still successful today. Everyone else faded away or relegated themselves to being nostalgia acts for coffee houses. All those other critical darling groups disappeared and DD is still together and working on a new album for 2021 release - formed in 1978 & 42 yrs later going strong
Haiii im from Malaysia my fav all times from school times now I'm 50 still listening to Duran Duran when I'm in school they call me le bon because my hair were like Simon le bon still love Duran Duran long live Duran Duran duranie all times
No mention of the Chauffeur? Was never released as a single in any region I believe but for me and many others it’s their real tour de force. On a side note, really enjoying this channel became a subscriber this week after discovering it. Extremely well put together content with a professional sheen. The channel deserves to go far. Keep rocking!
Yes! One of my faves! Although I hate the video! I know they are guys but their audience was teenage girls, why did they keep putting naked women in them? LOL
Duran Duran and many of their contemporaries manage to do something better than any music generation before - or since - climax their albums brilliantly. 'The Chauffeur' being a classic example. There are many.
I'm a 56 yr old "Duranie" and I FREAKIN' LOVE THIS BAND and THEIR MUSIC! YOU GUYS are part of the SOUND TRACK OF MY LIFE!!! THANK YOU For the AWESOME MUSIC!!!
Thanks for this brilliant video. Duran Duran are a prime example of band members mastering their craft and creating masterpieces. Each member brings something amazing to the table which results in tracks that sounds unlike any other band regardless of the decade. They’ve always stood apart from their peers - for good reason. They’re unique. Simon’s poetic award winning lyrics, John’s amazing bass guitar sound, Nick’s new wave keyboard sound and not afraid to try different techniques, Andy the rocker brings the edge to band (when he’s WITH the band 😂) and finally the backbone of group, Roger who may be quiet...but his drums certainly are not. Put Roger and John together mixed with Andy’s guitar and you’ve got an melting pot of talent on the boil. Pour in Nick’s keyboards and top it off with Simon’s brilliant lyrics and you’ve got yourself a hit from heaven. We’re the lucky ones, who decade after decade, are lucky enough to sit back and enjoy the fruits of their labour. I’ve come to appreciate their music more as I’ve gotten older - also appreciated the fact that they share so much of themselves with the media. The constant interviews, tours, documentary specials etc...we’ve essentially watched them grow up since they were 20. Unfortunately I’ve never had the opportunity to see them in a concert yet, hopefully before they stop touring I’ll get the chance. Simon’s voice has gotten better as he has aged. Some vocalists aren’t so fortunate. He’s definitely been blessed. My top five... 5. The Chauffeur 4. Come Undone 3. Notorious 2. The Reflex 1. Ordinary World Five isn’t enough, it needs to be twenty. But that will do. 😉
A very big minority. The quality of music constant, but they also had something to say for themselves AND had the class to express their views through great music. Credit to them and Nile Rodgers for it.
Notorious is one of my favorites, too. I see Notorious and Big Thing as the more adult, introspective albums of their 80s material, and I appreciated that. That said, Rio is still my favorite and the most demonstrative of their genius, in my opinion.
Notorious was a great album. The single choices of Skin Trade and Meet El Presidente were interesting. I think there were other songs which would have been far more commercial had they been released as singles, and more likely to have built on the success of the Notorious single.
I agree. One of the most underrated bands of all time. Simon Le Bon is a poet and lyricist on par with the greatest of all time and JTs driving bass lines are just... like you said. Really timeless.
My 10 in no particular order: Playing with Uranium, Girl Panic, Out of My Mind, None of the Above, Come Undone, Land, My Antarctica, Wild Boys, Notorious, Vertigo.
Whoa! Got a fellow later age fan. So let me repaste my comment here: Later age fan, started following them post their initial break-up, so a lot of my favs are post-85 1. Notorious 2. Ordinary World 3. Out of my mind 4. Perfect Day (Lou Reed cover) 5. Planet Earth Ok, its hard to stop with 5 6. The Chauffeur 7. Girl Panic 8. A view to a kill 9. Someone else not me 10. Skin Trade I do like the early hits like Rio, The Reflex, Save a Prayer etc. but enjoy the above ones more. Incidentally, my favorite albums are Notorious, Big Thing and the experimental Medazzaland. So, I guess I am one of the minority DD fans who like their less mainstream stuff more.
When they redid 'reach out for the sunrise' some years after it was released on that forgotten album, they made it harder and more edgy and ended up being one of their best songs ever
As a little kid, I loved music but didn't have a favorite band. Then after seeing the "Hungry Like the Wolf" video at age 7, I finally declared, "Duran Duran is my favorite band". Two years later, a guy named Huey took over the top spot. But hey, I still love Duran Duran!
Love this. Just because they were all hot and had the girls squealing doesn’t mean they weren’t great musicians. They’re all so underrated. Their songs were artistic & poetic along with having killer hooks and beautiful melodies. They’re the full package and deserve a lot more credit for the substance of their music. John Taylor didn’t pick up a guitar until he was 16, and was writing hits 5 years later, and his bass lines slay to this day. He’s such a good bass player, not just the most beautiful man to ever live. How many popular bands split up at the height of their success, splinter off into other projects that are both very successful, and then come back together to make more hits? They’ve really just got some rare magic and deserve a lot more respect.
Tears For Fears and Duran Duran were the bands that got me into my current music taste! Without them, I never would have decided to listen to other new wave/synthpop songs and fall in love with the genre. DD (along with Peter Gabriel, of course) also made me appreciate music videos more. It’s impressive that they still sound so amazing today, even working on another new album. My personal favorite of theirs is “Leave a Light On,” which might be from 2011, but is still so beautiful and is reminiscent of the 80’s with a modern feel.
Ordinary World, Come Undone, The Chauffeur, Hungry Like the Wolf and Do You Believe in Shame; and I also love their cover of Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me).
5 - The Reflex 4 - Save a Prayer 3 - Hungry Like the Wolf 2 - Ordinary World My No.1 Come Undone And thank you for doing what you do and the way in which you do it 👍👌👍👌👏👏👏👏
My fave band to this day. My life changed when they came to America along with the Second British Invasion. I always remember things in my life from the 80s and 90s dependent upon which Duran Duran album/single was out. Top 5 - Save a Prayer - Who Do You Think You Are? - Ordinary World - Anyone Out There - Midnight Sun
Ty POR for helping us survive in this new “not-ordinary” world.
Thank you for your support and comment! We'll get through this with music as our guide!
Professor of Rock, ty Sir! Been following for a long time, just never commented until today. You’re the man!
I read and sing the song at the same time.

Professor...blown away by your generosity toward the music. Many thanks.
Well said and deserved DD
Duran Duran your music it’s timeless, amazing and simply genius, one of the joys of my life it’s to have the luck to hear your masterpieces, I sincerely thank you!
@duranduran thank you for the great music and memories. And thank you for @professorofrock for bringing back those memories like they were yesterday.
Wow.
I agree with everything Professor said, but I also listen to the album "All You Need Is Now" in regular rotation. That album deserves much respect.
Ordinary World is a masterpiece. The vocal is incredible.
John Taylor may be the most underrated bass player ever. The bass lines in “Rio” are incredible .
My Own Way. Love the bass on that.
@@Windupchronic That is still my favorite song they've done, even more that any of the singles. And yes, mostly for the bass.
Awesome bass player, and the most ridiculously handsome men in music history especially as he got older. And just thinking of " Do do do do do do do do" automatically makes me feel great. Excuse me now I'm off to Spotify.
@@mattmunn71 Yup, really enjoyed learning to play it on Rock Band. That game changed a lot of snobbish minds about Duran Duran.
Also New Religion...... Amazing bass line
The Chauffeur is an underrated masterpiece. A juxtaposition of soaring and rapid vocals layered over a dense hypnotic track. Some of the best lyrical content and unbelievably good production. Starts off purely electronic and introduces the band for a powerful outro section. Just so well done
I love that song🎵

At last!!! Someone who acknowledges Simon LeBon’s brilliant lyrics!!!
"I know the answer, but I'm asking you the question..."
A magical moment of our lifetime, not just in 1980's music.
Brilliant lyricist - brilliant team.
"My obsessive fascination is in your imagination" just brilliant!
One of my favorite lyrics: “Bride of wire, How disguise so easily cracked,
Saw your heart turn spade
This orchid's turned to black”
Love me some Duran Duran, probably the 2nd to Depeche Mode as #1...but the lyrics were often like "Huh?". Not bad, just wondering wtf was going on.
The opening lines and last verse of "New Religion" are amazing.
There is NO POSSIBLE WAY not to love Save a prayer. It is probably (next to Careless Whisper) one of the best ballads there ever was!
Your's is one of the coolest posts I've seen in a while!
Save a prayer, best version imo. vimeo.com/224385425

5: skin trade
4: the chauffeur
3: union of the snake
2: so misled
1: do you believe in shame?
Ordinary World is a masterpiece!
Breath After Breath is also an underrated track from the same album.
"Ordinary World" is when Duran Duran crossed from being "Pop stars" to "Artists".
Let’s face it by 93 DD was long dead, and a relic of the the 80’s. I’ll never forget stopping by my fathers and clicking on MTV, and Ordinary World came on.. I watched, and after i was like holy shit these guys pulled it off. Great song, and they looked great.
warren's masterpiece
@@xoxxobob61 I think they crossed over long before that for fans, but I agree that's when it happened for the masses.
I grew up loving Duran Duran in the 80's. So when the early 90's came around, I heard their songs like Come Undone and remember thinking, "Man, Duran Duran is back at the top again. They did it again."
My favorite Duran Duran song is “New Religion” off of Rio. I couldn’t believe it was never released as a single.
And the Arena version blows it away IMO ✌️
The back-and-forth dialogue of those lyrics is so thought-provoking.
too right! Same here. Some of their best songs are album tracks even b sides. Friends of mine, nightboat and Secret Oktober come to mind
Love it....it might be my number 2 behind seventh stranger...3 would be anyone out there.
"Ordinary World" is brilliant--and still resonates in these troubling times.
So very well said~~~~~~~
I have been a Duranie for going on 40 years and I feel like they've never really gotten their proper recognition. As songwriters and musicians, they're truly underrated, especially John Taylor. His bass playing is so gorgeous and melodic.
My older brother was Duranie, he wore his Miami Vice sport jackets to H school . I stole all his good cassette tapes
Their glamour image overcasted their talents. John Taylor is one of the best bass guitar player around.
I’d say the bass is definitely the best part of the band!
They Need to be in the Hall of Fame NOW!!!
Yes!
Wha!?! Duran Duran isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Somebody needs to get them in there NOW!
Yeah, Simon and John just inducted Roxy Music into the Hall of Fame!
I can't understand for the life of me why they are not yet.
They are in the rock n roll hall of fame, was after The Wedding Album
This brought me to tears. 😪
I've always said they were not a boy band.
Totally agree! And yes, So Red the Rose is a masterpiece!
I will agree in every word, and now i know that the Chauffeur is someone elses favourite song of all time too...
My two daughters, as well as I, think The Chauffeur is also possibly the best song ever. They are 24 and 29 and they have great taste in music.
John Taylor is the reason why many picked up the Bass (or even flipped their guitar for a bass). His lines are a joy to play. A wonderful disciple of the late Bernard Edwards.
Yep! Definitely sat at the feet of Bernard Edwards.
Beside influence of Lou reed and David Bowie, they were a big fan of CHIC and its funk/disco beat.
Me! I learned Bass because of him 💜
Adam is so sincere and passionate about what he does it makes me feel like whatever band he is talking about is the best band in the world. Every damn one of them :) Always a joy to take the time to watch these.
1- New Religion
2- The Chauffeur
3- Girls on Film
4- Planet Earth
5- Careless Memories
Now this 👆 is a great top 5 DD trax list!!
Pretty close to my top 5, The Chauffeur is my all-time favorite song
@@DiesalAZ I can't pick a favourite Duran Duran song but The Chauffeur is definitely among the top group. It brings so much mood and beauty with it.
A music youtube channel who acknowledges Duran Duran's talents and skills and influence on pop music?? I never thought I'd see the day! Finally!
Ordinary World is a bonafide masterpiece of a song.
Bill bright you Sir are most correct indeed, a real masterpiece.
It’s a fucking awful song. Fuck that!
“Came in from a rainy Thursday on the avenue, thought I heard you softly talking “ dude this song never fails me.
"Where is my friend when I need you most... Gone away......"
Colorful Meta4 love it!
Matt Ma love
It!
That song has some seriously beautiful lyrics ❤️
I loved Duran Duran ever since I first heard "Hungry like the wolf" on the radio in late 1982. Great music!
Gawd I fucking hate that song!
And, let's not forget Arcadia! :)
So Red the Rose is a beautiful album. I love Arcadia
I believe Arcadia to be part of DD canon.
So Red the Rose is magnificent. Goodbye is Forever remains one of the best songs I’ve ever heard.
I love So red the rose... my favourite from the album are the flame, goodbye is forever and election day
So red the rose the best non-duran Duran album.
I had the Ordinary World cassingle! It’s truly one of the best songs ever written. 👍🏻💜✌️☮️
It was so awesome being a kid and watching MTV in the 80's! Duran Duran were the forefathers of the MTV generation!
I agree, kids today have no idea what they missed!
@Devin Mills we has a tv station out of either Aurora or Joliet that was a Spanish educational channel until 6pm then played videos all night
Amen to that, brother. One 80's kid to another.
Does anyone know if these guy realised a culture club video? They were huge too
Duran Duran is still busting out jams!
No way. Hyperbole.
I 100% agree with you !!!
They're working oN a NeW ReCoRD.
I thiNK the current state oF thE world aT the moment may haVE slowed things DoWN.
Have yoU seen them LiVE ?
Andy Pandy I was lucky to see them LIVE 3 times in Brazil, where I Iive. They are even better playing LIVE. Absolutely fabulous.
There b side is captivating
Just gave you thumbs up to give you 💯 likes mon !👏👏👏
Totally agree
@@duranfanvr882 The handful of people I played the song for, all loved it. Should have been a big hit.
One of my favourite lyrics (and I love the whole Notorious album), together with Seventh Stranger: a year of Sundays seems to have drifted right by, I could have sworn, in one evening.
Mark, 'A Matter Of Feeling' is a very good song.
I'd love to hear an extended version of it.
Superb album 'Notorious'.
Thanks
Keep it going PROFESSOR.! The 80s was the best Decade EVER !
My mom was a dig fan of Duran Duran. She would alway play them when we was kids. RIP mom. I would play Duran Duran every time I miss her. Just seeing your you tube just make me think of my mom.
I was obsessed with DD in the 80s. Still love them, they are an amazing band to see live. Thanks for covering this underrated band. ✌🏻☮️
Ordinary world is one of the best songs ever written, in all aspects; vocals, bass, guitars, drums, keys and lyrics..
Just like Hall & Oates, Duran Duran songs are incredibly infectious. I can listen to their songs regardless of my mood.
Top 5
1. Lonely in Your Nightmare
2. The Reflex
3. Wild Boys
4. Is There's Something I Should Know?
5. Hunger Like The Wolf
Could you please make a video about INXS? Thank you for this video.
Colorful Meta4 Third-ing. INXS definitely need to be talked about!
Lonely in Your nightmare has some of the best of John in it!! Luv it.
I agree with INXS! They definitely need to be mentioned.
I'll fourth that INXS nod. DD, INXS and U2 were my three faves at one time.
INXS. Waaaay ahead of their time. What a beast of a band.
They are so pretty that some were biased against them. Unforgettable classics songs. Nick Rhodes is brilliant!
How Duran Duran is not in the RRHOF is beyond me! They are soooooo deserving!
One year later! Yes!
You're right! I used to get butterflies in my stomach!
Wow. My first Duranie vid on Friday Night Videos was The Reflex. Simons voice, Rogers drums and the waterfall and I was never the same.
Friday Night Videos was a major event for me as a kid. I'll never forget that into music!>> ruclips.net/video/_PMXbSqTYIY/видео.html
I don't think kids today know what MTV or a music video is
Brilliant perspective on this band.
Best videos of the MTV era along with Michael Jackson and Madonna. I feel lucky to be old enough to remember the 80s. Best decade ever.
Friends Of Mine!
They were MASSIVE! One of the top 80s bands - Loved them during my favorite decade!
My bedroom walls were covered top to bottom with pictures of John Taylor.
Mine too. Lol.
John was/is so gorgeous. He and Ben Orr are the two most fu@&able bassists ever
Same!!! He was the hottest back then but now Roger is the hottest.
Every girl loved Nigel back then
Same here.
This is my "super group"! I still love them
My 5’er:
1-Wild Boys
2-The Reflex
3-Hungry Like The Wolf
4-Come Undone
5-Ordinary World
I would get out of school in the mid-80s, walk across the street to the pizza place, and have a few slices while playing "Hungry Like The Wolf" on the jukebox. Good times. Thanks, POR, for illuminating the memories like you always do.
Ordinary World remains in my top 20 songs of all time.
YES! YES! YES! Duran Duran are the pop rock group of the times. They can't be touched!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was a little sad that you didn't mention that soaring guitar solo in Ordinary World. I gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it.
played by warren and no mention of super groups arcadia and power station.
Change that to 'every time' and I'm with you!
"Leave a Light On" is one of their newer songs I really like.
I loved DD as a teen and was finally able to see them in concert at age 50. I enjoyed the Nostalgic moment, however I was surprised how meaningful there songs were. As we age we have many more experiences of life, so their lyrics have become more relatable and powerful to me now.
"The Chauffeur" is the best Duran Duran song that didn't get mainstream attention. The video is so beautiful, albeit NSFW.
The 80s!
They get written off time and again, and bounce back.
'All You Need Is Now' was a superb album. Fantastic, classy songwriting.

View to a Kill
Growing up at this time, I was the biggest Duran Duran fan.
Watched MTV for hours just waiting for their videos. Especially “The Reflex”, “The Wild Boys” & “A View to a Kill”
When they came back with The Wedding Album, even though I was now in my teens, it made me even more of a fan.
Totally agree. I grew up during the time too.
They never broke up...Andy came back again for a ahort stint in 2001 and left in 2006 again..
Thanks for the rec ! Great song
Agree man!
My favorite band for the last 39 years by far.
One of the best 80's band. Plus they knew how to market themselves? Very good & strong songs. It didn't get much better back in the 80's. Also MTV helped their cause. Plus a #1 hit with a James Bond theme, also excellent!
It proves that if you're making good quality music, it doesn't really matter what genre it is.
Well said. Politicians and journalists could learn a lot from you.
Most definitely the best band ever!!!! And they still rule today!!!
I FREAKIN LOVE DURAN, DURAN!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Haiii im from Malaysia my fav all times from school times now I'm 50 still listening to Duran Duran when I'm in school they call me le bon because my hair were like Simon le bon still love Duran Duran long live Duran Duran duranie all times
No mention of the Chauffeur? Was never released as a single in any region I believe but for me and many others it’s their real tour de force.
On a side note, really enjoying this channel became a subscriber this week after discovering it. Extremely well put together content with a professional sheen. The channel deserves to go far. Keep rocking!
I do like the Chauffeur and will be returning to Duran Duran for sure and talking about their deeper tracks...
The Chauffeur is my favorite song of ALL TIME!!! Absolute perfection!!
Yes! One of my faves! Although I hate the video! I know they are guys but their audience was teenage girls, why did they keep putting naked women in them? LOL
Duran Duran and many of their contemporaries
manage to do something better than any music generation before - or since -
climax their albums brilliantly.
'The Chauffeur' being a classic example. There are many.
Mine too. My license plate says, "BLUSILVR".
I'm a 56 yr old "Duranie" and I FREAKIN' LOVE THIS BAND and THEIR MUSIC! YOU GUYS are part of the SOUND TRACK OF MY LIFE!!!
THANK YOU For the AWESOME MUSIC!!!
Man finally thank you very much !!! Duran Duran and Depeche mode are my all-time fav bands you can tell looking at my screen name.
I would also say one of their best songs… Hold Back the Rain….
5. The Chauffeur
4. Come Undone
3. Notorious
2. The Reflex
1. Ordinary World
Five isn’t enough, it needs to be twenty. But that will do. 😉
I'd like to remind everyone that "Girls on Film" is an absolutely brilliant song
I always liked the “Notorious” album, but I seem to be in the minority.
I still love 💓 playing the album, it’s amazing!!!
Really? That album is brilliant. Played in my Walkman when I was 13. Winter Marches On is a stunner.
Some great deep cuts there!
oooh "Land"...love that song
Pop Trash and Liberty always get overlooked so well done.
Whoa! Got a fellow later age fan. So let me repaste my comment here:
Later age fan, started following them post their initial break-up, so a lot of my favs are post-85
1. Notorious
2. Ordinary World
3. Out of my mind
4. Perfect Day (Lou Reed cover)
5. Planet Earth
Ok, its hard to stop with 5
6. The Chauffeur
7. Girl Panic
8. A view to a kill
9. Someone else not me
10. Skin Trade
I do like the early hits like Rio, The Reflex, Save a Prayer etc. but enjoy the above ones more.
Great track. Was jamming on AYNIN yesterday. That was my fave tour
Ordinary World, Come Undone, The Chauffeur, Hungry Like the Wolf and Do You Believe in Shame; and I also love their cover of Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me).
The same way I felt bands got me throughout my life, I feel you get me...because you also get these bands. Thank you for what you do.
The Chauffeur (live Arena version). My favorite DD song.
You are right ordinary world is just one of those classics thats comes along once in a lifetime so unbelievably talented
5 - The Reflex
4 - Save a Prayer
3 - Hungry Like the Wolf
2 - Ordinary World
My No.1
Come Undone
And thank you for doing what you do and the way in which you do it 👍👌👍👌👏👏👏👏
My fave band to this day. My life changed when they came to America along with the Second British Invasion. I always remember things in my life from the 80s and 90s dependent upon which Duran Duran album/single was out.
Top 5
- Save a Prayer
- Who Do You Think You Are?
- Ordinary World
- Anyone Out There
- Midnight Sun
Nice to see some Medazzaland love there, Midnight Sun is my favorite DD song ever!!
I luv your list! Midnight Sun is so underrated! Probably my favorite song on Madazzaland.
@@duranfanvr882 Such a great album. In my Top 4.
@@heatherjones2701 Mine is "Who Do You Think You Are?" with "Midnight Sun" right behind. And thank you!
John Taylor was the bridge for many rockers & musicians to get drawn into the DD sound from my experience.
