This video is like Indiana Jones meets Les Miserables meets Missle Command meets Dance Dance Revolution. I haven't the faintest idea what is going on half the time but I freaking love every second of it. #duranduran4ever
Wow! This is one of my favorite of Duran Duran’s songs, but I never saw this version until tonight (2022). Never knew how much of the story I was missing. It makes so much more sense. Thanks for posting, Cedarbush!
I have been a fan since 83 and this is the first time I see the mini movie of this music video. So elaborate and cool! Love it! Thanks for sharing this gem on youtube!
I was just gonna say the same thing! I saw the link in a Facebook post and thought "eh... I'm not gonna click it because I've seen the extended version on Dancing on the Valentine (the VHS)." After I got about the 2: 25 mark, things started to look different, and I was like "WHAT?? What the hell is this??" And watched the rest of the whole thing with my jaw open. Now the actual video makes more sense with the storyline. Thank you for posting this publicly!
Same now. This Lot were the bollocks eh? As I'm always saying..these Midland Rabble are fine but They always need a bloke from The Pinner/ North Arrah area to get things heading in the right direction 😂😂😂
As a DD fan since 1981, this is the first I've seen of this. If it really were filmed in one morning, it's extremely speedy work by the cast, substantial number of extras and crew. A night shoot followed by a day shoot is quite unusual. Including a helicopter shoot, too, I'd have thought this would be several days. Andy Taylor, in his memoir: " "Everybody... hates it, particularly the dreadful scene at the end where we all dance together," Taylor wrote in his memoirs. "Even today, I cringe and leave the room if anyone plays [it]." He recalls that they were miserable since their Christmas holiday had been cut short to shoot the video, and spent most of the day on the dark and cold set drinking, to the point that he was "half cut" by the time the last scenes were shot. "It's one of the few times I've seen Nick dance." Oh, the dancing... I can't watch any more.
Yes, i know about the cringe of the band regarding this video but i always loved it!! This was my first DD song i loved in my childhood, the chourus was in my mind since 15 years, when a friend gave me a seven and the ragged tiger TAPE! Today at 48 years, i see for the first time the entire video..omg ❤
It was a great time to be alive when all of those amazing 80s bands hit the scene. I am right there with you Brother, but we experienced one of the best decades in music. I still want my MTV, just not the post reality era.
I am 56 years old and was the biggest Duran Duran fan as a teenager in the 80s. I have never seen this mini movie either! Wow! It was never released anywhere as far as I know!
NO ONE does remixes and alternate versions of their music better than Duran Duran. back in the early 90s there was a guy at the end of my dorm hall who had just TONS of bootleg tapes and CDs of Duran Duran, it was amazing.
at that time i listened to punk music, but i liked Duran Duran and i had to listen to them secretly so my friends wouldn't make fun of me. this song is the first song in english i learned (i'm italian) and i still like it a lot, while in an interview i heard that they don't like this video at all.
oh my god~where on earth did you find this gem~i've been a durannie since 1982 and i've seen new moon vid many times since feb '84 release~even have it on the video e.p BUT NEVER SEEN/HEARD OR EVEN KNEW THIS VERSION EXISTED~why had this never been released back then or even shown~wow this has made my year so far~whoever you are that found this and put this on here is a star~top work you hero :)

I remember seeing this on MTV when it first came out. They did a world premiere thing. From there, it was incredibly rare to find. I haven't thought of it in decades. Thank you for sharing.
My first time whatching this long theatrical version of the song -video, Duran Duran allways keep surprisesing me, i just arrive here after watching the new video "Danse Macabre" Fantastic! saludos.
Today, I’m excited to visit Noyers-sur-Serein to revisit all the scenes from the clip. I can’t wait to go to the restaurant where the group meets the old lady. Even if it’s raining, I’ll do it for all of you!
Vive la revolution! This is what I loved about Duran Duran. Cinematographic quality, long videos, which were very special and well produced. Probably the best videos to come out of the 80's.
Man!! Approximately 15 :22;in video is absolutely fantastic!!.. just seeing all members of duran just groovin!. Even nick, and, and roger himself!. And Simon lebon in the middle just keeping all them motivated to keep dancing is very cool!. Love it!.

This video version is my most fave, I know that DD was a bit in the bag when they did this video and are not proud of it, but man I loved how Russel Malcahey turned it into a mini movie. I fuckin love this version of this video. Guys you said how you did not like this version of this video but I think it was amazing and so many others do, seeing the comments here for this video.
You 've got to thumbs up just for the aerial scene on the road, for that time a masterpiece. We are talking about a real helicopter shooting it. No drones allowed that time. They didn't even existed...
Serious question but do you think he would have made a good James Bond? Considering they have been playing James Bond as an older man recently he could still play him.
Glad I wasn't the only one who thought this. I have seen this video several times, but only after repeat viewings did I realize he was pretty good despite not having an acting background. It must be that he is just comfortable in front of the camera since he already had to get used to it before.
My favorite DD song and video. I've always heard that a "Thriller" type version of this video existed, but i never saw it until it was first uploaded to YT eight years ago. Then it suddenly disappeared until now. After seeing this version, the video now makes a lot more sense. However, if they had put a lot more work into it in terms of plot and all, they would've come out with a rather decent mini movie. Still, i love this video just the same. Thanks for giving us Durannies such a wonderful gift.😊
Their debut album, then Rio, followed by Seven and the ragged tiger, was a killer progression of albums. They were at the peak of their popularity here. It was a great time to be an impressionable kid taking it all in as a fan.
I am 57 and I am lucky to have grown up during the best time ever for music that spoke to me and helped me become who I am. I love this band proud to be a Duranie
This final movie version is on the Greatest DVD. You have to watch New Moon on Monday on replay like 5 times in a row to unlock it. Each time, it's a slightly different version.
Uhhh?? I can't believe I've never seen this version before. Did any of you know it? There was the official single video, the extended one on the "Dancing on the Valentine" tape but I had no clue of this superextended one.
I am also wondering what your comment means… have they never performed New Moon On Monday live in concert? I also don’t know what “Sunrise” is. Can you elaborate?
Duran Duran fueron la joya del Nilo para MTV!! Sus videos (los que vimos siempre por tv y por suerte hace muchos por otros medios!) son espectaculares: impecables y muy, muy buena producción! Éste nunca lo había visto, si el comercial. Gracias mil veces Cedarbush!!
This version is so amazing compared to the other which was fragmented and didn't make much sense about what was going on. Also, Patricia Barzyk, Miss France 1980! So Gorgeous!
God bless these lads…they put so much into this & pulled off looking like they were having a good time all the while they were actually freezing cold & pretty miserable & a bit sloshed by the end 😂- according to JT ❤️
I had all their 12 inches as a teenager!. I would sit for hours in my room, just listening to all the cool effects from their songs! They'll always be the best band in my book! Kimmy-Duranfan1982
As a life-long Duran fan I can honestly say, I thought I'd heard (and have on VHS) the full version of New Moon On Monday....I was 51 years old when I learned I was wrong 😁
Just fabulous to see - I can remember looking for fragments of this when the single first came out, but hardly anything was out - even buying the EMI picture music international releases! Forty years later, here it is...and looking a lot better than the single edit did. Thanks so much!!!!
still i light my torchs, anyway, thanks a lot Cedarbush, form brasillll, lots of sun, think of 30 degres celcius!!!!, glad glad glad ! DDs classic 4 me, keep in touch
Never knew this version existed. Love this song so much.
Same here.
Think I’ve seen at least five different versions of this song
Neither have I. Until my brother Adrian discovered this movie version.

I have to say there will never be another band/group like Duran Duran 👏💯🎉 love them❤️

Same. John Taylor actually mentioned recently that this video was so awful that they won’t even discuss it. But for us fans, it’s another story🥰
@@amyleigh7660 haha exactly. Such a great band

I havent seen this video in years! Thank you for posting
DD's extended version videos are so cool 🎉
God bless these lads…they put so much into this & pulled off looking like they were having a good time all the while they were actually freezing cold & pretty miserable & a bit sloshed by the end 😂- according to JT ❤️
I had all their 12 inches as a teenager!. I would sit for hours in my room, just listening to all the cool effects from their songs! They'll always be the best band in my book! Kimmy-Duranfan1982
It's been a long time since I have seen the movie version of this video #classicDuranduran
Love it!!!!
Back when they did the Blue Silver tour in 1984 they talked about making full feature video and this it that video! A bit long but great!!
As a life-long Duran fan I can honestly say, I thought I'd heard (and have on VHS) the full version of New Moon On Monday....I was 51 years old when I learned I was wrong 😁
my favorite song and video of the band.
Just fabulous to see - I can remember looking for fragments of this when the single first came out, but hardly anything was out - even buying the EMI picture music international releases! Forty years later, here it is...and looking a lot better than the single edit did. Thanks so much!!!!
How can I have gone 41 years without knowing this existed?
#teamRoger for life
