Oh Lord. I just saw this pop up and I'm delighted! I love everything on your channel, as I hope you know from past comments. But I grew up two miles from Wells and was lucky to do so. Ironically, I'll have to watch this later because I' m currently in Wells, about to drive to my current home near Axbridge/Cheddar, 25 minutes away. If you ever pass through Somerset again, these two would make a superb and historically riveting episode. Don't let the cheese distract you. (And that's s sentence I didn't expect to write today).
Hi, Now I feel pressured I don't disappoint 😉 We had a lovely time in Wells despite some very British summer weather, and we'd be back in a heartbeat. It's not really that far from our home in Kent, so I think we'll be looking for more fun in the west. On this trip, we headed out to Glastonbury and then up to Cheddar, mainly to follow the road through Cheddar Gorge, but Axbridge looked lovely - Do you have any more hints or tips from a local? I hope when you do like it when you watch it. Take care, thanks for the support, Gary & Janis
@@OurWorldForYou This was great. You did the place proud! Thank you. As vistors, you're spoilt for choice in the West Country. Like you are, frankly, pretty much anywhere in the UK. Within easy range from London, I'd suggest Thomas Hardy's Dorset. Dorchester and Shaftesbury are lovely, and just to the south is the glorious Jurassic Coast which, in my opinion, is even prettier off-season. And quieter, of course. Thanks again, both. I look forward to more adventures soon!
Hi, Thanks so much. Maybe we'll head west again in the spring. Our next adventure takes us to France in a couple of weeks, and then autumn sets in, but on the channel, we have a little more from this trip to uncover. Thanks for the support, and hopefully, we can continue to entertain. All the best, Gary & Janis
Hello once again - and another of your delightful videos - although your frequent reference to a movie ( ??? ) had me slightly confused - not being a movie buff myself . I made quite a few visits to this fascinating and historic location, gosh, any number of times as, an eager Oxford undergrad to later visits with my wife, and always finding something exciting and interesting missed previously !!!! So, yes, jolly well done - enjoyable and thank you :)
Hi there, Firstly, it's good to hear from you again. I hope you are well and that the New Zealand winter is being as kind as it can be. I hope the mention of Hot Fuzz didn't shift the focus away from what is a beautiful, historic city that we really loved. I'm hoping we can get back there sometime soon. All the best, Gary & Janis
@@OurWorldForYou The NZ Winter ??? Ah well, we have just been exposed to a very cold system straight of the Antarctic Ice shelf, more pronounced in the deep south, but cold enough. Fortunately short lived, so survivable :) Mmm, Hot Fuzz ???? please elucidate - was I correct in assuming a movie, or perhaps a popular tv series - or even an alcoholic drink ??? The cathedral library, as I recall, held some absolutely exquisite examples of illuminated manuscripts and some rare and important letters and correspondence, although I suspect the later are most likely within British Archives by now. Wells, the stunning cathedral alone is worth spending considerable time in, although I found, as with so many historic places of worship, the antiseptic white interior a genuine disappointment, as the process has removed nearly all aspects of it`s medieval past, which would have been a riot of colour and splendour. No matter, there are also some pretty fine traditional pubs in the city - perfect for drowning one`s sorrows in - ha :) Thank you once again - keeps the memories alive !!!!
Hi, Indeed Hot Fuzz is a comedy movie - (www.imdb.com/title/tt0425112/?ref_=nm_flmg_t_61_act) Written and directed by Edgar Wright, who grew up in Wells. It has a wonderful cast of British actors including Jim Broadbeant, Olivia Coleman, Simon Pegg, Paddy Constantine to name but a few. It is also a beer, brewed in celebration by a local brewery, to commemorate the film. There will be two follow-up videos for Wells, One on the Cathedral and the other on the Bishop's Palace and Gardens, arriving in the coming weeks to cover the details I had to skip in the main video. Anyway, we are enjoying the mixed conditions that is a British summer, All the best, Gary & Janis
@@OurWorldForYou Thank you, Gary and Janis for the more expansive explanation re Hot Fuzz :) I look forward to the additional videos of Wells you mention - they will, I know, be top shelf as always !!!! Take care :)
