We're both a little camera shy at showing our faces on our videos, although you may see us pop up from time to time.
So, please stop by, say hello and click on that subscribe button 🟢

Our visit to Rudyard Kipling's Batemans, in East Sussex, at Christmas
A look around Rudyard Kipling's home, Batemans, at Christmas.
Starting at the Mulberry Cafe we take a stroll to the front of the Jacobean Mansion that is Batemans on a winter's day.
Once we step into the entrance hall, we find that Bateman's has been decorated for Christmas with a jungle book theme. From here, we step into Carrie Kipling's office, which is a recently opened space.
On the ground floor, we discover the music room and the parlour, both featuring the Lotus flowers, iconic symbols of life in India, reflecting Rudyard Kipling's early years.
Moving on upstairs, we arrive at a bedoom, where the apes from the Jungle Book are running wild at Christmas.

Really good reminds me of my childhood in old Bexley after the war also as for your last comment I am also living in New Zealand... cheers
Magnificent camera work and narration, I lived there for 21 years and know all these locations, nice work!! Subsribed.
And no mention of the Beatles.
I was brought here as a child by my mother. Seeing that quiet place by the medway brings back allot of memories for me. Thank you for this trip down memory lane. Peace.
Hi, That's wonderful; I'm glad it brought back fond memories. It's a wonderful place that probably hasn't changed mutch over the years. Anyway, thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment, All the best, Gary & Janis
@OurWorldForYou next time I'm back over in London I might take a train down to have a look. Have a good one! From Dublin.
WHAT A ATTRACTIVE TOWN SANDWHICH IS, SO CLEAN AND WELL PRESERVED, IN EVERY WAY. LOVE THE ARCHITECTURE, MY FAVOURITE. KENT IS THE ONLY COUNTY, SOUTH OF THE M4, THAT I HAVEN'T VISITED. SOMERSET IS A BIT TOO FAR AWAY, FOR ME (84 ) AND MY OLD CAR. SO GLAD THAT YOU WAITED FOR A GLORIOUSLY CLEAR BLUE SKY, AND WHAT APPEARS TO BE, AN EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. WELL WORTH IT. AND THANK YOU. P.S I BET THE LOCALS WHITNESSED A LOT OF AERIAL ACTIVITY DURING WW2,
Good video and excellent explanation but It seems very risky to me that all these churches are open and without anyone controlling them in these times.
Hi Mauricio, The churches are opened up at about 10 am, and close before dusk, but yes, plenty appear unoccupied during the day, maybe there is someone milling around in the background. For us it was a lovely way to explore more of the Romney Marshes. Anyway, thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment, All the best, Gary & Janis
I'm here right now. Pity about the weather. It's raining. All those mysteries of the Rosary are closed up, presumably as it's winter.
Hi Maria, That's a shame, hope you haven't travelled too far, and can return sometime soon, a matter of weeks away it will be like the video when the magnolia is in full bloom. I know the weather improved from about 2:00 pm for a couple of hours; hopefully you managed to capture a rare bit of sunshine because now the weather is really awful. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment, All the best, Gary & Janis
As with the Italian Grimaldi's (Monaco), like Nice France (original name NIZZA) and Corsica, the Italian influences and history are still evident in these cities. The old Genoa hub.
Hi, The world is full of influences from the past, from the ancient Greeks and Romans. In Britain, we owe much to other nations who have created what we are today. Since the dawn of time, we have travelled and left our mark, and long may it continue. Anyway, thanks so much for taking the time to stop by and leave a comment. All the best, Gary & Janis
Thanks for this video. Is parking tricky? Is it just pay and display like in the uk?
Hi, The only place we may have paid for parking was in the car park in Paphos, and if we did it was really painless, probably a euro or two - but to be honest I can't really remember. The other places we stopped at were free of charge. Driving in Cyprus was a doddle, other than trying to manage the manual gearbox in Martine, but I think that's because I've been spoilt over the years 😊 Anyway, thanks so much for taking the time to stop by and leave a comment. All the best, Gary & Janis
Thoroughly enjoyed my visit last year.
Hi Linda, That's fabulous, we're so glad you enjoyed it. It's a wonderful part of the world to discover. Thanks for taking the time to stop by, All the best, Gary & Janis
OMG, fast motion video of driving through winding streets, I'm seasick by 00:30, quitting here.
Hi Denis, Sorry about that! I think I need to find a better way to squeeze 5 hours of driving into under 20 minutes. A least you didn't mention the narration - no, please don't. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and leave me some feedback, it is appreciated and I will try to do better in future. All the best, Gary & Janis
Back in 1987 my parents were friends with the custodians - and we had a weekend stay there. Quite a weekend it was, there was a massive storm - power cut and, being a teenager, i had an issue with the skull in my room - sitting on the mantle piece. My mother fell down the stairs and there was an organist in a nearby church that was clearly inspired by the weather, hammering out something akin to the death march. The barn and terry cottage were considered separate history items from the big house because I do remember the emphasis on ship builders. Upstairs the floors were not even. I wonder if anyone remembers the Weare's? They were dedicated to their job and loved being the custodians.
Hi, Now that's a really interesting story, I assume that was the 'Storm of '87'. The church organist sounds insane - something from a horror film almost. I bet as a teenager it must have been surreal. I wonder if the National Trust has any more on the Weares? A Google throws up a Time Team visit in 1999, and a Margaret Weare appears at about 11 minutes into the footage - just google 'time team smallhythe kent' and you should be able to locate it. Anyway, thanks so much for taking the time to stop by and leave a comment. All the best, Gary & Janis
Wonderful video

We are planning to stay here in June for a few days. Your filming was great and a very calm interesting tour you gave us all. Thank you!
Hi Bonnie, That's going to be fabulous. I guess with a name like Bonnie McSherry, and a profile picture featuring an Aberdeen Angus, you're from Scotland? (Probably completely wrong, but...) It's a great part of the world to explore, and the Romney Marshes, on which it sits, is also great to see. There are a few more videos on the channel, A Romney Marsh Road trip through Kent, taking in the coast along the way (Pt1/2) 🔗 ruclips.net/video/whQuX0VGYc4/видео.html That ends at Dungeness, and part two picks up from there. If you like history, there's also 'A tour of the Historic Churches of Romney Marsh - Part 1' 🔗 ruclips.net/video/p3daFX5sSPk/видео.html Then close by (13 miles away) is Rye that's worth visiting; Our visit to the historic Cinque port town of Rye in East Sussex - 🔗 ruclips.net/video/sgqEnWJ5xUQ/видео.html Then there's also a road trip from there too. Anyway, the most important thing is if you do make it to Dungeness, have fun. Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment. All the best, Gary & Janis
A wonderful video - thank you so much for sharing this. We truly hope you enjoyed your visit to the Palace and Wells, and we hope to welcome you back in the near future!

Thank you for this beautifully made film about Rye. It is a place I fell in love with visiting with my parents as a child in the seventies, and I still go there for a week every year. It feels a bit like home to me.
Hi, How wonderful, I bet it does. It's only about an hour away and somewhere often pop too, especially off-season. So glad you enjoyed our little video to0 - thanks so much. All the best for 2025, Gary & Janis
But you make it sound so creepy like we’re about to enter a hot and dry place where a man in a mask lives with a chainsaw somewhere in USA 🤔
Por favor, podrían habilitar subtítulos en español? Hermoso documento! Muchas Gracias!!
Muchas gracias, ya lo hice y me aseguraré de que estén disponibles para todos los videos, pasados y futuros. Que tengan un excelente 2025 Janis y Gary

I was lucky enough to get to tour Chartwell this past June and it was even more beautiful than this video. If you ever get the chance to go, do it! Lovely and the artifacts are great to see too. I would have loved to have been so lucky to live here! We got to see the black swans too but didn't get to see the ginger cat, Jock.
Kay, that's fantastic, so glad you had a great time. I think the video's just give you a taster, you can beat a visit in real life, and in the height of summer what could be better - the rose garden must have looked stunning. If you get a chance, you should check out Bateman's another fantastic National Trust property in the south-east. Thanks so much for stopping by, all the best and here's to a wonderful 2025. 🥂 Gary & Janis
Did you pick you rental car from the hotel?
Hi Jeev, No, we took a taxi to the Sixt offices in town, but we dropped the keys at reception and they collected it from the hotel at the end Hope that helps, all the best, Gary & Janis
I still love a bit of Margate it's in my blood ❤
Rick, There'll always be old Margate; there's just new alongside it, too. We've also got it immortalised in the OFAH - Jolly Boys Outing Anyway, all the best for 2025, Gary & Janis
Hi, I really enjoyed this video. Thank you from Denmark.
Hi Tina, So glad you liked it. It's got a lot of charm, and is one of the unique coastal towns we have in Kent. Always worth a visit, and great for Fish 'n' Chips 😋 Hope you've had a lovely Christmas, all the best. Gary & Janis
@@OurWorldForYou Thank you I had a nice Christmas hope you did too. Yes, I will visit it one day. I even wanted to visit it before I saw your video. Have a nice New Year. lots of love from Denmark
I use to live in København and soon to be moving to Deal. :)
Well velkomst, and hope you enjoy you new life on the Kentish Coast. Deal's a wonderful place, and there's plenty in Kent to keep you occupied. All the best for 2025, Gary & Janis
Hi, I am only going to visit Deal as a tourist sometime. I don't intend to leave cosy Denmark to go and live in Broken Britain. kr tina p.s. I do believe that some of you RUclipsrs when you reply to a comment your intention is good but I have seen it before from other RUclipsrs that I get a reply which is meant for someone else. I don't mind. No I think I live in one of the best welfare states in Europe and in the world. Britain just for a visit as a tourist. Have a nice day.😀p.s. You have got too many people coming from outside Britain who intend to make Britain their forever home. Not me though, I'm perfectly happy with my own country.
I really also enjoyed this, the flight simulation was very cool. ❤ thank you again.
Hi my friend, Something different in lockdown, although with winter upon us here in the UK, I may take to the skies in search of adventure from the comfort of my home office. Hope you've had a lovely Christmas, all the best. Gary (& Janis)
Hello..... yes me again. The benches ect are missing from the city because people in general, tourist or not are messy so and so's...... they leave rubbish instead of cleaning up after themselves so to not have left over food, bottles, paper ect blowing around or into the water and beyond into the sea better not having them.
Hi, I think it's a ploy to drive you into the bars and cafes, and there's only so much Aperol spritz I can consume before risk of falling into the canals 😲 Aside from the tiny niggle with the benches we loved Venice. All the best, Gary (& Janis)
Thank You ❤ another great explore around 😊
Hi, Thank you, so glad you liked it. A beautiful UK city, and one we'd highly recommend. We might head there for Christmas one year, heard it's meant to be lovely. All the best, Gary (& Janis)
This was beautiful ❤ thank you 😊 greetings from Australia. x
Hi, Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it - have you seen Hot Fuzz? It's a rather grey and misty day here in the UK - just how I like it (No Christmas on a beach for us 😊) All the best, Gary (& Janis)
A lovely video. Thank You. We tried to visit when in UK from NZ - but it was closed due Foot & Mouth. Never mind - I will just have to get out my five books and study them again.
Hi Martin, That's such a shame. Maybe another visit to the UK sometime 🤞 I know it's a long way, but we've plenty to see over here 👍 Anyway, hope you had a lovely Christmas time. All the best, Gary (& Janis)

I lived in Maidstone for 40 years and have been living well abroad for the last ten but I often at times miss the place!❤️
Hi Rusty, That's nostalgia for you - you must have had some great memories over 40 years and seen plenty of changes too. It's easy at times to be negative about a place, and for sure there's stuff that could/should be improved, but there's also plenty to be appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and leave a comment. All the best Gary & Janis
@@OurWorldForYou When I do visit the UK I always have a day wandering around the shops and pick my Mrs up something from the Golden Boot and an evening out with old friends drinking around some of the various pubs (The ones that are still there at least)we used to frequent.
I loved the video. Could I make the request you drop the volume of the music. The volume of your voice is fine in my opinion, but the music is so loud I have a hard time understanding everything. But regardless, thank you for these videos. I love them! Also, call it holidays, Christmas, whatever you like. Have a Happy Holiday!
Hi Nathan, Thanks so much, I'll check that out, everything appears okay when I author it here, but I guess I need to listen to it back once I've uploaded it to RUclips on different devices. My background was working for an international corporation, so I often speak like that, I'm happy to refer to a cellphone when I speak to a North American, and a mobile in the UK, there's more in life to be worried about. All the best, Happy Holidays and all the best for 2025. Gary & Janis
The 1967 animated film is fantastic, takes me back to my childhood, though tbf I haven't watched the remake. Thanks for this delightful tour ,and Merry Christmas to you both.
Cheers Robert, and the very best to your clan too. I was with the '67 one too, once again childhood - but the 2016 is very good - still on iPlayer for a week I think, or on Disney+ Again, all the best for a great 2025 - I might even return to Scotland, it's only take 25 years! Gary & Janis
Thank you for the guided tour of Rudyards home. I felt very sad at the loss of their only son. How devastating. I'm thankful to the National Trust for the preservation.❤ Just two little points could you record your voice a little louder as its sounding like a whisper ( very quiet recording) & please call it Christmas not holidays. Thank you.❤
They can call it whatever they like. Happy Holidays!
Hi Crystal, Thanks for that, I'm so glad you like the video. I think the loss of Jack was devastating. On our road trip from Rye we take in Burwash, and you can see Jacks's name on the villages's was memorial. I'll look into the volume issue, try to make sure it doesn't happen again. On the Holidays front, I use that term in the international format to encompass everything over the festive period from the beginning of advent to the 12th night. I generally use Merry Christmas the rest of the time. Anyway, a Merry Christmas to you and a happy near year; here's to a wonderful 2025. Gary & Janis
I have just researched Daisy May, she was a schoolgirl puppet, worked by Albert Saveen, d 1994, this clever schoolgirl had her own show on BBC, she had a real bank account and her own telephone number, children would phone her before they went to school.....I remember her and her ventriloquist Albert........take care, looking forward to the Christmas present videos and more of your gadding abouts
I have found Daisy May, she wears a straw boater, has black hair in two plaits, a yellow pinafore dress and white shirt with her extremely smartly dressed handler Albert in tails and top hat, he was born in Southwark 1914 and died in April 1994 in Worcester Park, he beat Archie Andrews and Lenny the Lion etc to obtain a show on the BBC, I used to see them on Crackerjack, say it loudly you will get a pencil....CRACKERJACK !!!!
Hi Linda, Thanks so much, what an interesting slice of history - just looked up Saveen, what a character! All the best for Christmas, and a great 2025 Gary & Janis

Hi Nazan, You've confused me slightly, but that's not unusual. Anyway, hope you like the video, All the best, Gary & Janis
Hello Gary and Janis , I had a very unexpected letter from Mr DaiseyMay, I am sure thats not his real name, used to be a ventriloquists dummy, Roger de Courcey ? I have been watching your excellent videos , still top notch, I am afraid London is even worse than before, Khans a nightmare, an even greater bombsite with lights on .....take care happy travelling
Hi Linda, Very confused with the Mr DaiseyMay reference, although strangely enough he's dropped us a line too. I think Roger de Courcey's bear was Nookie. Glad you enjoying our videos, last one before Christmas should be out on Saturday, think you might enjoy that, and that will be the last one before Christmas. Such a beautiful video! And a wonderful city 🇩🇪
Hi, Thanks so much, that's very kind of you, glad you liked it. It is a wonderful city; we must go back in the summer sometime when it's not so wet or cold. I'm sure it will take on a new life when the sun is out and people are sitting outside the bars and restaurants. All the best, Gary & Janis
Such a lovely video! Im going to Munster in 2 weeks to see the christmas markets and that video was really helpful as well as the previous one about Munster! My friend lives there now since she went for Erasmus. We would also like to see Düsseldorf or Coln during that trip but we didnt decide yet which one would be better. Maybe you could give us any advice? Greetings for Poland! 🇵🇱❤
Cześć Gabriela, Firstly, so glad to hear you are going to Münster, you're going to have a wonderful time. It's a lovely city and so chic too. I'm glad you found our videos helpful and if you're looking for advice on your next Christmas market then, for us, it would be to Cologne, (Köln). We've been over 10 times, and we will be back again next year. Düsseldorf is nice, but for us Cologne has it, but it will be busy (Münster's a nice size!). Hamburg & Bremen are also close by and really nice. We've a post on our Blog if you want even more ideas - 14 of our much-loved German Christmas Markets - ourworldforyou.com/14-of-our-much-loved-german-christmas-markets/ - but you may have to save some for next time. I hope that's of help, all the very best and najlepsze życzenia (I hope Google translate has not let me down) Gary & Janis
Thank you for the romantic road Video. We are doing it next year and much appreciated
Hi Michael, Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope you have a fabulous trip; the route is full of wonderful towns and villages. We both just love Germany, such a great country to visit - we'll be back next year, definitely for Christmas, but also maybe another try in the summer too. All the best, Gary & Janis
Bob marleys (the rasta bloke from Jamaica) great grandparents came from Rye .
Dan, No, I didn't know that - another bit of trivia for the pub, and I know I'm going to use it! 😉 Thanks, Gary & Janis
