  • It seems like every year new kinds of pests find something delicious in our garden. This time we found our gooseberry shrubs with almost no leaves left after they were attacked by an invasion of caterpillars. But fortunately, we have a lot of different types of fruits growing in the garden, so there's still a lot to harvest. We also have a lot of new flowers which help make this summer colourful 😊

I love that corner that Tommy created, also, with all the different geraniums, petunias and the roses. It is disheartening to put your love, sweat, and care into your plants and then to have an army of tiny green worms attack them. Don't give up, though, you've been successful in producing so mNy beautiful and edible things. You can be so proud of that.

Love the youtube vlogs guys, sorry to hear about gooseberry sawfly attacks, my mates bushes get hit alot and his gooseberrys are on a grass based area like yours, my goosebbery bushes have a good area under them of mulch which is also around them, which creates black soil around the bushes and later in the year I turn and disturb the soil around the gooseberry bushes which seems to bring up the larver of sawfly to surface for blackbirds to feed on, also mulch compost and maybe last grass cuttings of the year which gives sawfly larver hatchings a serious challenge of getting through soil and onto the gooseberry bush next spring. These critters hatch and live in the soil under fruit bushes. So pick them leaves off the soil under the gooseberry bushes so any larve not get into soil and dig and clear grass away from the bushes, perhaps dig the soil if you can without disturbing roots then add mulch layer with poss topping of crass clippings on last cut to hinder these critters next spring, the more you do this the looser the soil will be to dig and disturb the larve of these critters. Hope some of these tips helps you as it seems to work for me. Cheers Dougie

the gooseberries should be ok guys ..you can spray them with a garlic solution , boil some garlic cloves in water ..let it cool then take out the garlic and spray the liquid on the leaves ..you can also sprinkle Diatomaceous earth around the plants as that will stop caterpillars hatching ..but too late for this year you need to do it in spring worked for me and is organic and no chemicals ..great redcurrant harvest :)

What a beautiful way to enjoy nature, laying in your hammocks, in the shade and looking up at the blue sky through the leaves of the trees. I so look forward to the journeys and beauty you share with your viewers. You may not think so, but you're naturals at this.

Try spraying the trees with chilly and dish soap water then the leaves won't be taste anymore. The end was so sweet, thanks for making my day special. 🥰

Guys, I love how you are planting and growing so many varieties of flowers all over the property. It truly does look great and wonderful for long walks. You have provided many great tips of things I could do myself. Thanks.

I don't know but I bet the goose berry bushes will grow new leaves. I never heard of flies coming from caterpillars. They did leave the berries for you so they just wanted to share 😃 Nature will find a way. Your garden is so inviting so you may have more visitors/squatters. The flowers are in such a variety and are beautiful.

I forgot to mention that I loved the red clover. I’ve never seen that before, nor the yellow. So beautiful.❤❤

Aarrghh, those pesky caterpillars. I think they are the ones that attack my roses! 🤬 Such a nice amount of redcurrants. We love them made into a jelly to serve with meat here. Also, so lovely to have wild fruit trees ❤ Those cherries looked delicious. Lovely as always to have a catch up video from you guys ❤❤

Sad about the news of those undesirable creatures (oruga, here ) that are invading your plants. There are many home remedies ( eggshell, garlic, tomato, tobacco......) quite effective to combat them and on the Internet you can find how to prepare the product but probably you already know about this theme.

Make a spray of a little dish soap in a liter of water. Spray from a spray bottle like an empty Windex bottle. Good luck. Kevan
