There is so much in this video that speaks a truth about like minded people. I think that for me, the biggest frustration I have is that no one in my life understands what I am feeling and my way of looking at life and how I live it. I would like to from a small community where we can share and help one another with our lifestyle.
And so I wonder what is holding people back from doing it. In my case, I am ready to start today, I just don't know where to do it and have been looking at different States (I am in the US) but can't decide.
The last 7 years I learned, you don't need to go tiny to get out of the rat race. You can stop consuming however you live. You can stop wasting money in buying useless things. You can start growing your own food in nearly every garden, even on a balcony. Or you can collect fruits as berries, apples, pears, nuts and so on outside in nature. You can easily get used to need less without building a tiny house or van. It's not the outer form but the inner way you choose. I'm so glad working only 3 days in my "normal" job. Of course I would earn much more money, if I would work fulltime, but why?
You've had me until the very end. People work full-time to raise their families and provide for them. There is dignity in work. That being said, I agree that the tiny house movement and off grid living fad is unnecessary. A minimalist lifestyle, gardening, making the most of what you have already can deliver the same thing in a much more rightly ordered way
You still have to pay rent gas electrical though. My rent and utilities come to 700 a week. Its insane. Thats nit even food and transport. Going tiny and if grid frees you up from so much. Your also learning survival skills.
Of grid isn't for everyone. Not for me. Very rudimentary and harsh lifestyle. I prefer to use my time for other things than survival, every day. We've come so far as a human race, to be able to live with certain confort, water and electricity, a washing machine,🙏 etc... I had to wash everything by hand for years, before!!😓 So, that's a no goer, for me!! I enormously enjoy the simple confort I have every day. Don't need to collect water, no need to heat it, be in the cold, etc... Such a luxury, I'm so ever grateful for that !!🙏 Eventhough one still has to do house chores, cooking, and so on. One neither needs to have kids. We're already over populated. Better to adopt, or invest time in giving or doing good deeds to others and animals. Forest, animals and nature are vital for me. I love being in nature, and go out a lot, far into nature. I consume very little, much less than most. I recycle, upcycle, and get food from nature or alternative shops for way less than that I would do having my own crops. I have a little garden. But, mostly for the biosystem. Plants, flowers, a little veggies. I don't work 9-5. Choose to work less. Lots of jobs don't have those type hours, anymore, anyway. Only mostly office jobs, which are changing too. I need to be in a equiped town for various reasons, mostly health (I was born with) and also I don't want to own a big petrol driven car. So uneconomical and not ecological. Never needed one, really. Bicycle, or other type of electrical or sun powered small two or four wheelers are great, and public transportation is quite fine. One needs to change inside, the outside follows. Luckily we can choose quite a lot, nowadays.🙏🌟
Do this now. Quit my 7-3/6 days a week job. Went to nightshift weekends 2-3 days get 4-5 days off during the week. Only pay rent gas electric in my cottage. Grow my garden and flowers paid off everything. Now travelling with my kids. Life is good! Never go back to the regular.
If you pay rent, you didn't "pay off everything". What did you pay off? Nothing of importance it sounds like. If you don't even own your home, your still at start where all 18 year olds are.
"Volunteering to be part of a community, because it can get lonely" is the most honest and practical advice. Even though you live your dream, the dream might be difficult at times. Appreciate your honesty.
I'm from Fiji and I recently went to New Zealand and I got a shock that the cost of living is so high in NZ. Rent bills n all other crap costs. I am a chilli farmer in Fiji I produce n sell n it's my income. We grow our own food. No rent no mortgage. Free life.
Fellow dane here, living in NZ where off-grid and alternative ways of living is more common. This is the first time i've seen someone do it in Denmark. So interesting. Thank you for sharing your journey.
its an old lifestyle in short. the way we live now is a very, very short time span in absolute terms, and an aberration in the history of living. Tiny living and self sufficiency has always been the norm, historically.
Recently I saw a commercial of a training " how to invest money efficiently ", my first thought was that I know the best way... by growing my own veg and fruit garden, which give me return in long and short therm 🙂😉
That’s a neat way to invest! I am not into gardening but admire the idea given the astronomical cost of vegetables- how can a tomato cost 1$ and an avocado $2?! I guess none can grow tomatoes- just give them sun & water. Point finale.
Just turned 34. Work a 9 to 19:00 very stressful, demanding job. People praise me and treats me differently now, specially family, because I work in a top law firm, when before they didn't even acknowledged me; but I HATE IT so much I can't make it justice with words... I am beyond burned, I am absolutely depressed but I hardly see a way out since nobody supports me. When I family that I want to quit they keep pushing me to stick with it... They're not thinking about my health or happiness, just about my social status and theirs by extension. So I am done, no more EVER office work, I want to work with/in/related to nature/animals. I don't care what anybody thinks, nor society... neither of them clearly care about my wellbeing. Is either doing this or killing myself st this point....
Take care of yourself man, I'm experiencing the same in engineering. Get drowned with thousands of pages of documents every day that I'm supposed to make sure every tiny detail is covered or else it's my fault. It's an impossible task that sooner or later will fail big time.
This comment will chock you, but is an excellent example of how us people from the Scandinavian countries speak out mind. Speaking our mind is way to solve problems, fast. I'm, like Anders, a Dane too. I my honest opinion your family actually only care about status and money. How do you think they will behave if you lost your job and/or become homeless? Learn to say no, choose your own path, and stick to it stubbornly. If you make different choices, your family will be of the opinion that you had lost status, and would very likely behave the way the did before ... but you can't have a job who destroys you. This is brutal, but : Go solo, drop ties to your psychological toxic family. If they're shocked, they care a little bit about you, if they don't, they don't care about you. You *has to move on* disregarding how your family thinks about you. IMPORTANT, Figure out if one of your family members is a psykopat, or is a sociopath. If one them is a psychopath or sociopath, exclude them from your life ASAP.
I am 65 now and still working. At least, I and my wife live on 5 acres north of the small city where I work. We have a greenhouse, barn and duck pomd, not independent yet, but working on it still. I applaud you friend, for figuring how to do it. Good luck with your future endeavours!
Really connected to this. Humans weren't ment to be in a 9-5 getting screwed over, over Consuming, eating food that is 90% Poison.. and so on makes me happy that people are waking up. We are all capable of doing this. It just may take more time than others. ❤
You need money to buy or rent the land, deal with the permits to have a residential buildings in those lands, buy all the material needed to work and plant the garden, and of course the materials and construction of the building, furniture... And without money how can you pay your bills (he's still buying clothes, internet, anything his dog needs, car repairs, taxes, etc). Renting a cabin? Good luck with the legalities of that. There are a lot of issues, is not a cheaper or easier live.
Love it!... I hope people will start to see the power of being living minimalistic, instead of buying a lot of CRAP! they dont even use in the future... Time freedom is the key to live in peace..
That's lifestyle I want also. I am from China and visited Europe 2 times and it changed my mind for living. I bought a piece of land in Hungary and will do pretty much the same like you in the video.😊
@@AF-vm6xx Well, forest is everywhere forest, fresh air is everywhere fresh air, birdsong is everywhere the same as well, but Hungary has better quality of soil and more sunshine than a lot of other countries.
did the same in 2019 after working in Manufacturing overseas for 20 years. finally decided to repatriate and build a beach villa in a beautiful windy coastal town famous for kitesurfing & surfing. My property is just 100 m from white beach front, Im working remote full time graveyard shift so I spend 3-4 hours day time outdoors gardening, tending to my chicken coop and my pets and next month looking to build a small piggery to supply local butchery at this small property by the hills that i just bought. So yeah, drastic change from toxic city and corporate living to simple country living may just extend my lifespan and have a better sense of fulfillment.
After traveling for a couple years I started feeling more at home in the countryside, no matter which country I visited. Then during the pandemic I visited a little Himalayan village and I am still here after 3.5 years. I run a hostel here and live the life I want. Low living costs, in the middle of nature, simple life and I still write software, but my software work now comes second after my relaxed lifestyle.
I wouldn't want to live like this, I'm way too materialistic, and I'm not unhappy with it, but I love watching these videos and see people thrive living this lifestyle. It just shows how diverse people can be and usually it's people who were unhappy in their dayjobs, seeing you escape from that into what makes you comfortable is just awesome.
I appreciate your honesty. It is true that we are diverse and may find that we have different needs in terms of how we live. I would enjoy this life, whereas my daughter is more of the type to want city living. I believe it's the single most important task.... to find our version of happy, satisfy our soul calling. It's a journey, not a destination. Blessings -

I'm envious of your lifestyle. Your timing for moving in, in Spring of 2020 couldn't have been better considering the pandemic. I live in a small, old, rustic, A Frame cottage overlooking a small lake just outside of my hometown in southwestern Nova Scotia. I love it. But I would trade it for an old cabin in the woods in a heartbeat if I only could. Now it's time to start watching your videos from the beginning.
Excellent summary of exactly what i want to do At 62 i dont need money but time is running out... The way you split the three “jobs” is a good way to rationalise how working for yourself can mean looking after yourself / not necessarily owning a small business 🤔 Therefore Two days working on my food garden is essential and not a guilty pleasure.
Same here. I'm 61, divorced and my 2 children are about to leave the nest. In less than 2 years I will be retiring and I am now seriously considering on living full time in a Sprinter van I am converting. Time is indeed running out and I want to make the most of what is left because tomorrow it can all be over... ATB from Belgium.

Los Angeles is a toxic mess. It has become an open air mental asylum and full of aggressive people. Materialistic minded people are the reason. It all started when the Armenians and Saudis started arriving and engage in inflation manipulation schemes to drive costs in housing, rent so that we can feed their materialistic overconsumption. Not only that we have to deal with their aggressiveness on the road and in stores in public. System of a Down's Toxicity was in fact talking about how they made LA into a toxic mess.

Elderflowers go on to produce elderberries. Elderberries when simmered in a covering of water, then strained and the liquid brought back to the boil with a pound of honey per pint of liquid, makes a wonderful winter remedy that keeps flu away 🙂. When jarred in sterilised jars while still simmering, it will keep for years 🙂. Tastes lovely as well.
It’s really inspiring what you’ve done. I’ve been having the same calling lately and I can’t get it out of my head. I think that doing it alone is what holds me back. We need mini communities of people doing the same where we can share resources and combat loneliness 😅

Rent a property/house/flat and live in a off-grid cabin, your own property. Seems like a best option if you have the means to do it. Myself i just have not decided where. I'm from Northern Europe. It gets really, really cold out there, there are better places to keep the garden during the year and your feet, fingers warm. Sometimes 3rd world countries can be a nice option, but you need to feel secure and safe. Maybe having some kind of community helps. We really don't need all the things tv and magazines and society try to say we need. If we brought back things like "community" life could be so much easier. Somewhere we got off track and thought we had to have all these materialistic things to arrive at some destination called sucess. You waste your life and energy and health in that pursuit. Relationships and experiences and living with and among nature is way way more important. Peace in your soul is a good thing.
In ireland you require planning permission and permit if you want to live in non permanent structure for more than 10days and youll never get the planning per.ission in the country unless youre from there by generations. Ireland has ridiculous laws and then theyre surprised that they have housing crisis.
So true. I was looking into it few years ago, when I was at a risk of becoming homeless. I was hoping to get a piece of land and put a log cabin or a static caravan on it. The cost of the land was prohibitive enough - anything between 30-70 grand for a half acre site in my area.
@@JaneWillowMusic Well, they have multiple crisis now. Immigration, homelesness. Greed can never be good. Even Irish can't afford to live outside of their family house.
Looks lovely. I am starting to do something similar but in my old house in a village. And we have lovely outside spaces nearby so I try and take advantage of that.
very inspiring and this video has given me more hope that tiny living is indeed a path that I can pursue with my wife. It's been challenging getting through the mental hurdle of redefining what work and making a living looks like when moving away from the hustle and bustle of city life. thank you.
I've been doing van-life full-time now for about 2 years out of a squaredrop camper I pull behind my car in the states. Tiny Living here still has lots of obstacles....most zoning even in the countryside won't allow tiny homes that don't have their own sewer & running water, electricity. With Van-Life, there are more and more no overnight parking signs for places that used to allow overnight parking.
Have you looked into cal Earth? They build with sandbags. I think their projects are up to California code, and this could be legal other places. Best of luck 🇩🇰
Are you surprised about that? Your essentially just leaching off some communities resources, without providing any benefit to them. Or is your camper free for others like me to just come in and stay there when I feel like it? If you don't own the land you intend to stay on, your at best a guest, maybe an unwelcome one. Grow up and get your own piece of land and forget this "van dwelling" kids stuff. That has zero future in it. You can buy a piece of land for less than half of the average van build.
Many people are trying hard to get out of the rat race including myself. Support to the tiny house living and van life dwellers.👍

Never go back to the regular.
congratulations
Same here 8 hrs 3 days ! Fu#( corporate slave drivers !!
Free life.
As a New Zealander, I always warn people about the high cost of food here. The cost of living is so expensive that people are constantly stressed now.
Fellow dane here, living in NZ where off-grid and alternative ways of living is more common. This is the first time i've seen someone do it in Denmark. So interesting. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Thank you!! I started school in NZ in Palmerston North - say hi to Mrs Watson if you run into her😉Would love to go back❤️
It's an old Viking lifestyle.
its an old lifestyle in short. the way we live now is a very, very short time span in absolute terms, and an aberration in the history of living. Tiny living and self sufficiency has always been the norm, historically.
Recently I saw a commercial of a training " how to invest money efficiently ", my first thought was that I know the best way... by growing my own veg and fruit garden, which give me return in long and short therm 🙂😉
Love it😊👌
That’s a neat way to invest! I am not into gardening but admire the idea given the astronomical cost of vegetables- how can a tomato cost 1$ and an avocado $2?! I guess none can grow tomatoes- just give them sun & water. Point finale.
@@2501me checkmate!
Gotta own the land to grow this on though... And pay property tax on that land. Or are we just fantasizing here?

This is brutal, but :
Go solo, drop ties to your psychological toxic family. If they're shocked, they care a little bit about you, if they don't, they don't care about you. You *has to move on* disregarding how your family thinks about you.
IMPORTANT,
Figure out if one of your family members is a psykopat, or is a sociopath. If one them is a psychopath or sociopath, exclude them from your life ASAP.
Agree. Listen to the Ferryman. He makes sense. ty and go well

You need money to buy or rent the land, deal with the permits to have a residential buildings in those lands, buy all the material needed to work and plant the garden, and of course the materials and construction of the building, furniture...
And without money how can you pay your bills (he's still buying clothes, internet, anything his dog needs, car repairs, taxes, etc).

did the same in 2019 after working in Manufacturing overseas for 20 years. finally decided to repatriate and build a beach villa in a beautiful windy coastal town famous for kitesurfing & surfing.
Thanks for sharing that story! Really sounds like a dream too! Congrats👏😊

The man living a way more simple life than most yet having so much more to live for
Many people are trying hard to get out of the rat race including myself. Support to the tiny house living and van life dwellers.
Indeed
After traveling for a couple years I started feeling more at home in the countryside, no matter which country I visited. Then during the pandemic I visited a little Himalayan village and I am still here after 3.5 years. I run a hostel here and live the life I want. Low living costs, in the middle of nature, simple life and I still write software, but my software work now comes second after my relaxed lifestyle.
Good for you! So much less stressful. I live out of debt and have a house paid for but relish going tiny...less housework, less stress!
Blessings -
It takes courage to live according to our inner calling. Agreed to start patially, getting some income n eventually move into it full pledge. May God bless you with abundant blessings 🙏
This is peaceful living. If enough people start being self sufficient and not solely rely on corporations for income. Only then the workers can create some sort of leverage.
I'm a hard worker, but these last fews years. I'm overwhelmed with work along personal responsibilities. Then the high cost of living to exist in society. Just working to pay bills, only having small amount of free time.
I have my own plans on being self reliant, thank you for sharing part of your journey. I enjoyed your video, the nature scenery is calming.
Doing the same here in canada! My first summer was in a hammock! A lot of my food was wild edibles!
Interesting story! I totally agree, life off the grid, far from the hustle and bustle of the developed world, is so fulfilling.
I also moved from USA to rural Kenya, not so long ago. And I started a RUclips channel documenting my relocation journey.

This video is very inspiring to me when I am not living in my tiny house(12x28) I am living in my DIY truck camper build. I am learning what’s on the land around me and also have planted herbs and a few other things that mostly come back every year. Anxious this year to actually get some organization and plant vegetables also. You are brave to venture out of your normal and allow God’s creation to sustain you. You are right it is hard work, but it’s reward is greater.
Years ago while living in Dallas Texas I helped a woman who was building her own tiny house. I don’t know where she ever got off to but I do know the insulation in that home was well done…
Your channel looks interesting so I subscribed. Three years worth of videos is a lot to watch, but I’m retied so plenty of time.
I left the corporate world just 15 days ago with a similar calling, it's wonderful seeing this and how far you've come in just a few years. Thank you for sharing 🖤
Excellent summary of exactly what i want to do
At 62 i dont need money but time is running out...
The way you split the three “jobs” is a good way to rationalise how working for yourself can mean looking after yourself / not necessarily owning a small business 🤔
Therefore Two days working on my food garden is essential and not a guilty pleasure.
Exactly! And Thanks!😊
I really support this kind of living life as peaceful and to be with yourself. More so close to nature🌿🍃🌿🍃 is absolutely wonderful.

I used to live in LA .Then last month I moved to my home country and living with my parents helping my father to grow his business.I’m so happy that I took this decision to leave a life where I used to work 5 days to live 2 days in a week . Now I’m enjoying everyday .Less money but happy life .

Thanks! I actually experimented with different elderflower berry juices - some with Black currant and mint. They turned out pretty well I think!

I applaud you. Very dedicated and impressive lifestyle.
In Europe Spain / France / Portugal / Italy are probably the best options we have..

So true.
I was looking into it few years ago, when I was at a risk of becoming homeless. I was hoping to get a piece of land and put a log cabin or a static caravan on it.
The cost of the land was prohibitive enough - anything between 30-70 grand for a half acre site in my area.

The same here in Denmark! It’s not getting easier, although there are some new regulations that maybe are changing the game now🤞🤞

@@dortek882 , thanks for the Cal-Earth recommendation. Just checked it out...those earth sandbag homes look awesome.
