Not all German 20mm cannon are equal. The C had the 20mm MG-FF, which had a slower cyclic and muzzle velocity than the MG-151. It was also drum fed as shown at 8:47, and could sometimes be changed in flight depending on where it was mounted.
My favourite time in IL 2 was in the Me-110. This seems like a fitting replacement. In fighter roole I use them as boom and zoom machines. You can gain quite a lot of speed and basically be untouchable. Just don't tango with single engines in a prolonged fight. It is one pass and gtfo. Once they are low on energy trying to catch up, slowly turn around and another pass. But yeah, bombing is the best use for them.
Hey wolfpack great video! One thing to note is that you really don't want to use full WEP on the 88, as it only has 1 minute of full take off power. However, the combat setting allows for up to 30 minutes of power! A lot of the engine troubles you saw were due to you cooking the engines. Great video though hope to fly against you soon!
Reminds me of Secrets weapons of Normandy game for PS 2 game. Loved all the different planes you could fly in that game . You could choose missions or free form & do whatever you wanted to do bomb anything or fight just about anything. Could also choose planes to dogfight each other . Really giving me the idea of figuring out how to hook the PS 2 up again 7 give that game a run again after all these years. Thanks for the peek at the new content. Gratz on the well earned 100,000 Subs goal you achieved may there be many more people discover you & your great content now & to come in the future !!!
I just love these planes and you do such a wonderful job as a host and presenter and let the circumstances tell their own stories. Thank you and congratulations, glad to see how much this channel has grown over the years but I'm not surprised because you have been very competent.
This was a lot of fun, I'd love another campaign in one of these big, twin engine interceptors/ground attackers. The single engine fighters are fun too, but there's nothing quite like the sheer destructive potential of a twin engine.
Interesting choice - I don't recall seeing the C-6 in any other sim... perhaps one of the OG IL-2 expansions had it? Not sure... However: With the current plane-set, it seems rather pointless to me. I hope they'll finally get around to including some worthy targets for this thing. Namely B-17s or B-24s. Or better still, since this was typically used as a night-fighter IIRC... : Lancasters. Add in night-fighter conversion-kits and equipment for existing LW planes that were used at night, like radar equipped 190s or on-board radar and the 2x30mm, 2x20mm nose mounted cannon conversion for the 110 G-2, some Schräge Musik perhaps and Mossie nightfinders/pathfinders, and you could have an entirely new scenario/BoX-module. "(Nocturnal) Battle over the Reich" perhaps? Yeah... I'll have to work on that title, I suppose... :D
Looks great! Would definitely play a Ju-88C nightfighter with radar & schräge musik if they do that as an option. Need to get on and sort my HOTAS bindings.
Weirdly there's not much known about the actual combat effectiveness of the vertical canons. German reports were often exaggerated and the crews often went down over Germany so no real data could be collected. By the time shrage musiks were being used in large numbers the Luftwaffes data collection of combat figures had already became an unreliable mess.
I think the Ju 88C is a heavy fighter in name only. Really, it's a bomber with a lot of guns in the nose instead of a bombardier. It obviously desperately needs fighter escort in daylight operations over the Eastern Front. I can see why only 164 were built.
It's similar to the a26 or the a25 or the beaufighter and il2. Weirdly quite a lot of these heavy fighter bombers were made even though quite a lot of them failed. Some exceptions of course being mosquito, P38 and some of the Japanese twin engine interceptors.
By painting the nose of this variant of the JU-88 to look like the bomber variant , it would fool unwary allied fighters to make a head on attack which would have been a good idea , into a very nasty surprise.
Hi Mate, Im flying Bombers and Supply in Multiplayer and see that there is noooo chance against a fighter. Im getting shot down in sec. Do you thinkg with this plane I got a chance against and enemy fighter?
German heavy fighters went out in mixed groups, so you would have had 109s with the group as well. The plane does really highlight the design choices the Germans had for twin engine heavy fighters, and why the American / British designs were better because they traded defensive armament for speed / climb rate (P38/Mossie). The 110 was pretty successful early war, and the 190 wasn't around for some of the early campaigns. 190 performs in this role better than any of their twins until the 262 is released.
German heavy fighters were more like bombers adopted for that role, they were not designed for that type of mission at all. The idea behind the twin engine "Schnellbomber" was to have a bomber fast enough to escape single engine fighters, and when the Ju-88 was introduced it was infact faster then any allied single engine fighter. But that didn't last long :)
The 110s used as escorts for the bomber formations during the Battle of Britain were unable to beat off the British fighters and actually required to be escorted by 109s in the later months of the Battle and Goering ordered his single engine fighter squadrons to stick closer to the bomber streams in order to do that. That and the short range of the Bf-109 really played into the RAF's hands as they were unable to use their advantage in the dive. The 109 was a poor turn-fighter against the Hurricane and Spitfire.
@@colindouglas7769 it's interesting looking and the almost "rock, paper, scissors" aspect of the German formations at the time. 109s (and Spits) had lackluster range which required the 110 in the first place. Had the 110 followed the speed first design philosophy of the P38 things could have gone a different direction in the BoB. BoB was easily the toughest for the 110, and outside that campaign early war it did have success as an air to air platform.
Very early in the war they were Great aircraft. but after the Battle of Britain against hurricanes and Spitfires not so much. And The Gunnery was poor to say the least.
I had a brain fart trying to think which German machine gun was chambered in 9.72mm and how could I not know about it. Then I realized you must’ve just tripped over your words, much like my brain trying to recall which of the MG-XX models fired 9.72
You did, but I didn’t at the time. I heard it after backing up the video to make sure I heard you right. Then I lol’ed, thinking “yeah, I’ve done that myself a few times in the heat of the moment.” “Hey! Grab the four-twenty . . . er, two-forty! No no, the six-seven . . . gah! The seven-six-two! Damnit, the thirty! Grab the thirty and start suppressing that asshole!” Felt like a right idiot’s fool after that. But after the shock of walking into (and then out of, without a scratch on us) an ambush subsided and the heckling ensued I was a bit relieved to know that my guys knew what I was saying. And they’re pretty certain that they verbally dyslexia’ed some shit themselves back there
I meant 7.92. I goofed while reading the script.
My internal history nerd went REEEEEEE when I heard that lol....Keep up the great content!
@@ryanhampson673 LOL. Mine too.
My brain automatically corrected it the first time, then I saw everybody commenting on it and I had to rewatch that part again to hear it.

It's cool. We all knew what you meant...
Well done for the 100k wolfpack! You deserve it. This might be good plane for a campaign.
Ahh, that old il2-music gives me nostalgia chills from back when i played with arrow keys and shot down tb3 in my stuka with 37mm :)

That reminds me of the Japanese "canons" which were basically machineguns but with new barrels and chamber.
@@nathaneddy502 i mean that basically MG151/20 and Shvak too.
It's easier to adapt an existing operation system than design a new gun.
@@nathaneddy502 The 13mm guns?
@@EneTheGene no the Japanese 20mm and 30mm canons were rechambered 50 cal captured and self made machine guns.

Congrats for the 100k and this is a very interesting new IL-2 career here. Try to avoid ejecting if you'll be fighting mostly over water.
Should definitely think about doing a campaign with this aircraft would be amazing. 🙂
I wonder if a pair of people could make a series out of this or a variant of it in a coop campaign.
I think a pair of people could make that happen 👀

I'd love to see a night fighter variant. Something with the crude radar they had back then, hunting British bombers at night.
Is that European Air War soundtrack I hear? My first ever game and my first ever flight sim..

it will be nice to see japanese aircraft like the mitsubichi A6M zero, the nakajima KI43 oscar and the mitsubichi G4M betty.
Good to see that it can at least dogfight a stationary train.
The first plane was still fly worthy. You could fly it home.
Brave, to take an 88C into just about any engagement in 1944. Even a Ju 188E would crap itself at that time in the fight.

Why cant i find IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Normandy in DLCs?
off topic for the video, but how is that computer chair holding up? it has to have been a few months now. any immediate issues?
Why didn't you drop.the Bombe simply infront of that train - the loco will just drive into the hole?
How can I get that plane? As far as I know its included in the Normandy-Pack für 90€ but I dont need that. Is there a way just for this plane?
The Swiss cheese wants it’s holes back :)
