I'm so glad you show replays, Taff. It's why you're my go-to channel for aviation sims. Too many channels don't show exactly what happened like you do.
The platform was so important to the war effort that the RAF started pulling spitfire pilots out of line squadrons and forcibly transferring them to Typhoon squadrons to increase pilot numbers, and yet media would have you think the Mustang and Spit won the war on their own
The Typhoon (and Tempest) are great aircraft! Even though very early models had a flaw which caused the tail to fall off in flight. The best ones imo are the ones with the Saber engine which made them stupid fast and got them assigned to intercepting V1 bombs.
Excellent special taff, it's utterly fantastic to see you back in the sky, your IL-2 content is incredible and gripping. Epic anti-shipping strike performed, great to see the axis shipping getting it in the neck like that of the allies, shows that both sides of the war we're going through the fire in regards of their merchants. The Typhoon is one of the best RAF fighters of ww2, an icon indeed so it's wonderful to see you giving it some spotlight. This was utterly fantastic, looking forward to seeing any future content whenever possible and when released, till then.. stay safe and happy gaming mate 👍
The Typhoon was not as good as the Tempest V. The Typhoon was used more in a ground support role against enemy targets firing rockets and dropping bombs than as a out and out fighter interceptor. It was very nose heavy and under-powered compared to the much faster Tempest V, which eventually replaced it.
@@darthvegan Hey Darth Vegan, great to hear your voice.. small world ain't it my friend? Thoroughly love your channel and just so you know.. planning to try setting up my own next year 😉. Have a wonderful week mate 👍
@@colindouglas7769 Well yeah, fair enough that's true. The Typhoon was mostly in it's prime as a fighter-bomber on ground attack roles, but at the same time.. if you knew how to handle it.. it could be devastatingly effective as a fighter, I've seen some Typhoons with a few air to air victories on the nose to prove it. Though they we're likely targets of opertunity at the same time. You are right though, ground attack and interception was it's best role, but with 4x 20mm cannons and the ability to carry an arsenal of bombs and rockets, it was in all truth an excellent aircraft, please don't misunderstand.. I do know what your saying, I'm not arguing or anything.. the Tempest was better in regards of dogfights and speed and lighter weight that's true, and yes it was the plane that phased out the Typhoon.. but I'm a sucker for legendary aircraft.. yeah.. guilty 😅
I swear the friendly AI are so bad, while the enemy AI are so good. Also that second bomb was dead on. They're lucky it didn't blow up! And that 109 should have been your kill. That dude had a nice snipe though!
The engine assign different AI for wingmen for each type of mission. Your ace wingman in last Free Hunt mission (Spitfire AI), will become docile in a strike mission (Il-2 AI).
Friendly AI is below all estimate in this game! Without excellent gunning skills, Taffs Heinkel-111 career would have lasted as long as one short video. I mean all of his Me-109 fighter escorts were shot down by Soviet fighters of extremely low quality (I-16 Polikarpovs to be exact)
Well at least he can take comfort in knowing that he hit them with a steel cylinder weighing as much as a motorcycle that was moving damn near 240mph and that the ships crew would have to sail for some time with a unexploded 500lb bomb rattling around in the ships hull
I think it was a mix of how little time it had to arm and the angle that it was coming in at. Compared to the first run, the second was a lot more horizontal so I think between the short arm time and it slamming into the side it just didn't detonate
A good lesson in Target Fixation right there! Excellent bomb dropping however. Landing was a bit rough, but any landing you can walk away from……oh…..no matter.
I read the autobiography of Hugh Dundas, youngest group captain in the RAF, and he was put in charge of the first typhoon squadron He had an argument with the chief designer at Hawkers over the lack of a rear view mirror (this was before the bubble canopy) and was told he'd be going to fast to need one They got mirrors in the end thankfully
He might have been too close when he dropped it. Some bombs get deleted if dropped below the minimum arming distance. Skip bombing works the best against ships.
You play this game, not me but I have a feeling your best bet would have been to make an emergency landing (or maybe bail out) as soon as you were convinced you are flying over an area held by friendly forces.
Saw the cannons....waited....waited...but NO...denied....where was the beautiful recoil sound of the 20mm cannons.....aaarrrhhhhHHHH...NNNOOOOO..Ha ha ha...gotta do another upload with the good old 20mm cannon Skipper Taff...Pip pip
Don't you just hate target fixation. I prefer the Typhoon over the Tempest, it was one of the best ground support aircraft around, right up there with the Thunderbolt.
Great videos, but You really need to do some research on the typhoon's use as a pure fighter. The idea that it wasn't capable against the 109 & and 190, especially at low to medium levels, is completely at variance with reality. I suggest you check out a few facts such as why they were rushed into service in 1941, why were they deployed as escort to the mossies on Op Jericho, and how was a ground attack configured tiffie able to knock down at least one 109 before being swamped during Bodenplatte, etc etc.
Should've gained altitude and bailed out: much better than conducting a kamikaze attack on a bunch of trees. You were never going to get back to home base. Your engine was leaking oil and would've seized up long before you got there and landing with a rear stabiliser missing and an engine starting to sound like a bag of spanners would have been tricky to say the least.
Seems a 200 mph cartwheel seems to be not very conducive to your pilot's chance at a long life. Huh, go figure. Heck of a couple of bomb runs there though, just a shame that second was a dud. Though I imagine there was many a pair of very soiled underwear tossed overboard later that day. Lol...
I'm so glad you show replays, Taff. It's why you're my go-to channel for aviation sims. Too many channels don't show exactly what happened like you do.
Typhoon is chronically under-represented in WW2 media. Glad to see you flying her!

the Typhoon and the Tempest are so beautiful machine.
That was an exciting fight.
You fought that one all the way to the end.
I swear the friendly AI are so bad, while the enemy AI are so good. Also that second bomb was dead on. They're lucky it didn't blow up! And that 109 should have been your kill. That dude had a nice snipe though!

2nd Bomb was too close. Bomb didn’t arm. Nice hit, though.
Great to see you back in the skies!
Nice bomb run! That seemed to be a dud, but it did hit the ship. Good video, would love to see more IL 2!
Nothing pisses us off more in games like this than a friggin dud.

Definitely knocked the rust of her
Be careful with those early model Typhoons, their tails liked to fall off.
Those damn kill stealers, you do all the hard work and they come and take the glory
10:25 ouch that shook me NGL

"It's not handing horribly." - Taf, October 2023, minus one elevator
Well done!
a cool video taff. that second bomb may have been a dud but not sure if that is simulated or not
Maybe it didn’t have time arm
Good to see you back in the cockpit, Taff. Any plans for a new campaign?
Especially with the Typhoon I agree.
Shoud do a scripted campaign. Battle of hurtgen forest is a good one.
Great video Taff! Love some good Typhoon action
Great mission Taff. Please do the il-2 typhoon career.
Valiant effort Taff!
Action packed mission great stuff. A lot of empty seats in the squadron mess tonight.
Tough break Taff but great video, thank you Taff!
Great new video! Another mission or series? Hope so!
A ship attack mission, rare!
I read the autobiography of Hugh Dundas, youngest group captain in the RAF, and he was put in charge of the first typhoon squadron

Should have pulled up into a steep climb and bailed out once you saw 3+ 109s after you. An aircraft can always be replaced - a pilot can't.
Exactly, I kept wondering why he wasn't doing that.
Great video Taff. I think your 2nd bomb hit but didn’t explode. Seems like a dud if they have them in game?
He might have been too close when he dropped it. Some bombs get deleted if dropped below the minimum arming distance. Skip bombing works the best against ships.
You play this game, not me but I have a feeling your best bet would have been to make an emergency landing (or maybe bail out) as soon as you were convinced you are flying over an area held by friendly forces.
I'm not sure if you know, but if you press V or C you can highlight casualties or equipment on the battlefield
Yeah now that's the taff landing that made me subscribe back in the day😅
Taff's silk allergy strikes again.
Now time for Edward Von Lufthoffen career!
Short campaign. Taff has the uncanny knack of losing speed with constant banking. Back to air school. :D
excellent vid, but I prefer skip bombing when attacking shipping
THE TIFFY!!!!
What is the use of the flap on the back of the air intake (from the Typhoon)? Thanks in advance!
Dogfighting 109s in a Typhoon. Darwin Award.
Which one of the IL2 games is this? Normandy?
The bomb hit that didn't go off possibly didn't have time to arm as you dropped it very low.
Don't you just hate target fixation.
I prefer the Typhoon over the Tempest, it was one of the best ground support aircraft around, right up there with the Thunderbolt.
What do you use to zoom in and out with a VR headset?
I have the hat switch on my joystick set to zoom / unzoom the camera which makes it quick and easy

How abt. using the parachute?
In ww2 pilots would often prefer to bail over using their parachutes because they did not trust it 😅
@@snakeoo7ca : Bailing out without using a parachute is not a good idea.
Is this a pilot career mission or standalone?
Should've gained altitude and bailed out: much better than conducting a kamikaze attack on a bunch of trees. You were never going to get back to home base. Your engine was leaking oil and would've seized up long before you got there and landing with a rear stabiliser missing and an engine starting to sound like a bag of spanners would have been tricky to say the least.
Might of released it too low and so didn't have time to arm itself.
That was a Jingles landing😁👍
Skip bombing!!
The fighter escort was useless and grab height before a dog fight.
Lol...
Those P-47s were absolutely useless.
they need to desperately improve explosion and fire/smoke animations, other than that, it's my favorite sim
IS this normandy map?
Don’t understand why you don’t just bail out. 😐
