I bought the garland premium cell trays (12s and 24s). They are hard plastic, like containerwise trays, but not as expensive. I then bought a step cone drill and drilled out the holes in the bottom to make them bigger, so you can easily get your finger in and push plants out. Works perfectly and will last for years. X

    • @kayemahoney8640
      @kayemahoney8640 2 месяца назад +4

PS: You can buy the larger containerwise cell trays (used once) from Patch Potatoes at a much reduced price. 😉

Are they heat and UV stable? I’ve had loadsa hard plastic cell trays that just fall apart in only a couple of years

As far as I'm aware. I have both the containerwise (bought from Patch Potatoes) and the Garland cell trays and they are made from the same hard, injection moulded plastic. I've had and used the Garland premium trays for two years and they're as good as new. 👍

I only grew 5 this year because last year I had 15 super harvest I jarred 68 pints of pasta sauce to which I have about half remaining so I opted for more brassica plants this year, as well as peas and beans. 😊 love watching your vlogs 😍 Trying Kale for the first time those are tiny atm 😊

It really is an odd year for gardening 100% many of my plants are stunted ( the survivors from Roly polys and slugs) because of weather issues and life-happening . The Good thing about tomatoes is they grow pretty fast when finally planted out. Your poly tunnel looks fab 👌 👏 👍 good job 🍻 ❤😊

I did have a problem with stunted peppers, but I think a lot of it was solved when I put sevin in the container. Also, any container above ground needs extra water. It’s so hot it burns the leaves. A shade cloth is helpful. I’m learning that it’s important to put black plastic on the soil for a few days to kill bugs. That was the reason my peppers were slow and had leaf damage.

Here in the so called sunny southeast in Ireland we haven't got any good weather a few days of sun here and there , we are to get very bad stormy winds tonight. There's feck all growing compared to last year this time last year everything was in their second or 3rd flush of flowers this year now into July only a few things started to get flower buds. For the veg , onions not bulbing up they like a big overgrown spring onion / scallions. Beans are growing but no peas in the pods there's one here and there. Although the tomatoes are going great even the out door ones lots of baby tomatoes, well so far so good. I planted over 100 crocus blubs and not one came up a few days ago I dug around see what happened they hadn't even rooted looked the very same as the day I planted them back in November.

In the U.K. also, but got lucky with the tomatoes. Not it the beginning, I had poor germination and had to reseed. However, my plants were cared for indoors until mid May, then went into my greenhouse in the garden where the snails, which I expelled everyday, were mostly busy eating old cabbage and kale from in ground beds. They are now around three foot ish, and I’ve my first tomato growing on one. We’ve also just eaten our first sweet pepper, not large, plant or fruit, but still happy.

I just recovered my polytunnel last weekend. It had a cheapie shaped cover and quickly degraded and showered my beds with little bits of plastic and leaked profusely. I got proper polytunnel plastic like yours this time. The frame is strengthened as per Steve greensideup (RIP) so hopefully will last 5-10 years now if the never-ending wet weather doesn’t rot the wood prematurely. So- my tomatoes are also just now transitioning from greenhouse to tunnel and having a bit of a sulk, but hopefully will settle in soon and grow well, otherwise it will be October before there are any fruit 😢.

Hey Jessie Great job on the polytunnel. Won't be long until the tomatoes, etc are in! How big is that is that again?
This years weather has been appalling and set a lot of projects back. One of the projects was to jet wash the front and back and give my car its annual jet wash. I did to the back patio first but then it got too hot too quickly for me to be able to do the front. Now the weather has been meh it has kinda put me in a meh mood again. Also all of the ginger growing in the front has been eaten! Hoping to dig it up and see if there is anything left, also there are some rogue volunteer potatoes growing there.
I have coriander envy! Ours normally just bolts, if it does germinate. Waiting until August to resow as well as pak choi and spinach as they have also bolted.
Great harvest for dinner there. Shame the weather has been crap this week but on that weather roller coaster, it should be better weather next week!
Growing yellow courgettes for the first time and definitely on the list for next year. Our child thought that there were mutant bananas! lol Just getting another two new's - Yellow Kentucky beans and Honeycomb tomatoes. Just waiting for them to start ripening.
If you are talking about tomato horn worms that is only in North American (i think mainly in the west) and thankfully not here!
Is that round thing your mic now? What one did you get in the end? It looks smart.
Yes I don't want to be that person but our tomatoes are about 5ft now, growing outside, no cover. Several trusses now, first truss about to ripen in a few weeks.
Our tomato spares are about 4ft now and flowering. Our other current spares include:
California Wonder sweet bell pepper, 2 x brussels sprouts, lots of basil, horse radish, aloe vera and sedum. I am propagating jade/money plant atm and also testing to see if I can propagate weigela, mints, rosemary and oregano.
Just down the road from you, if you are caught short.
    Anyway, take care.
P.s. Re Potty Mouth - I wondered what that was when we were clearing out my late Mother in Law's kitchen. I didn't realise it was a runner bean slicer! Wish I had known as we had a mad bean harvest last year. Brother in law lives there now and not sure if it is still there or if he uses it. He isn't into gardening or traditional cooking. I did have to google and ask my older sister if she knew what half of the obscure stuff was as a lot of it was old kitchen tools and homesteading stuff. It is nice to rescue that stuff to keep it in the family and pass down one day and luckily enough to be able to use these things that we actually need and use!
