Things can always be better in everything we do so it is better not to think too much about it. Have a nice folding chair you can use to sit in the polytunnel and a little folding table. They do very comfortable camping chairs nowadays. You can fold them away and pop them into the shed when you don’t use them, just an idea. I was very lucky to get that 20% off discount too on our polytunnel otherwise we couldn’t have afford it. They are such a wonderful space to have in winter, even if they are small ones like ours. Don’t worry about your clothes! They look fine to me. It shows the reality of a garden! Have you seen my clothes? Covered with silicone and paint! I totally agree with you. I’m very tempted to shorten the bed in the north side of the tunnel. I think I’ll see how the space evolves next season first. I do have a little school desk at the end of the centre bed. I could, in theory, make a bench to sit on the end of that north bed for potting up etc, which would then give space for that chair in the centre space I’ll keep you updated. Hope the frost hasn’t gotten to your plants
Built a polytunnel at daughter's request this May and its been well worth it. Our polytunnel is 9'x 5' (two 2' beds and centre path) as that is all the space we can allocate in the garden and also limited by the bits of wood etc i had in the shed to cobble it together with. Tomatoes, lettuces, cabages and cucumbers have been great - had to hand pollinate the cucumbers though. Mesh at the top yes but then when you put the plastic over it hang it from the top and leave the bottom loose then as wind blows you will get some simple ventilation. I initially closed up my mesh with plastic stapled in place and it got really humid inside ( we keep the doors clipped shut because of local vermin (squirrels, foxes and cats).
Sounds like a very worthwhile addition! I’ve been debating putting another set of doors inside, and having the seconds doors just mesh. It’s a shame they can’t make double sliding rails for two sets of doors to cover both bases.
Hi Claire, i agree with your comment about using screws rather than nails, as it allows you to make adjustments and changes without wrecking the wood. When your cover eventually wears out, First polytunnels can supply you with additional hoops so you could make your polytunnel longer at that time.
Actually I did think I could maybe extend t)3 tunnel if needed. Sounds a lot of work. Ha! To be honest, it’s more the width than length I regret. I’m sure I’ll be fine with the space when I get going next year and will be settled with the size before I need to change the cover. We said at the time it seemed weird to be using nails. We wondered for there was less chance of the cover snagging than with screws twisting through it. Will definitely use screws if we change the door covering next year. Kicking myself that we didn’t.
I did debate a hot bin last year but didn’t think it’d be ready to use by the end of the season, so it’d be a huge task to empty again. Certainly worth some thought again though
Hi Claire, I really enjoyed watching this 😊 lots of info and its given me lots to think about too, especially the doors as I have the same as you. Your polytunel layout looks really fab and so neat and tidy.....the complete opposite of mine 😅 great video Claire 👍

Hi, I bought an 18ft x 30ft polytunnel 11 years ago after a very bad summer when nothing grew. I'm in the process of moving it to new ground because of the red spider mites that have infested it, the old cover was still in good condition so the 5 year guarantee is really not needed. I did have high raised beds to save my back but I am going to plant straight into the ground this time because of the endless summer watering needed for raised beds. I did try two types of irrigation but neither were very good for various reasons. The perforated soak pipe was much wetter at one end than the other and the sprinkler type was very hard to get right if at all. There is no substitute for watering and feeding plants in a bespoke way. Some like their leaves wet and others dry and they differ in the feed they need. Like you say go as big a tunnel as you can, you won't regret it. Put some shading up in the summer or nothing will grow well if we have a hot summer. The sun just seems to scorch the plants even the outside ones last year.
Thanks for your comment. I do like watering, as it’s time to be up close and check on your plants regularly. Like you say, one size doesn’t fit all with watering, as some need more than others. We have plants for some summer shading if need be, but only the real heat loving plants will be in there. I still wish we’d put up a bigger one. I can imagine your tunnel is far hotter being so much bigger. Here’s to a great season for us all 🌱

Thanks for the video. I have also just got a new polytunnel this year a little smaller than yours and as yet not planted anything. I have the same thought about how to hang string down from the side for tomatoes etc next summer. I shall be interested to know what you do about this.
Hi, Just found your channel and subscribed! I have a Poly tunnel and have changed the layout several times over the past 4 years! Its a case of live and learn, with nothing ever having to be too permanent ! Some of your thoughts on what you would do again or change , will no doubt come about over the next year or two! My only suggestion is to use more of the vertical space to grow stuff! Feel free to take a look at my poly tunnel vids and see if anything is useful, as the more ideas you see makes making any alterations easier! Keep up the good work , Shaun.
Thank you. I’ll take a look at your channel now. Next year it’ll be full of taller plants over summer. We have plans for cucumbers, tomatoes, melons, chillies, peppers and even a loofah ❤️❤️

Ooooo Mrs Kevin the Carrot sounds appropriate doesn’t it? 😂 Comfort over looks any day of the week. I will never forget my Nan constantly telling us being warm is preferential to being fashionable. 😂❤️ It’s funny how we need to create our spaces (and make our mistakes in doing so) to realise what we actually want or need. Third bed re-arrange sounds pretty extreme. You’re as bad as me! I will be watching the live later too.. love Danny’s lives ❤️❤️
@@TheFarmyardGarden we got a bargain a few years ago from b an M them pallet collars £2 each instead of £12:99 that's how I ended up with raised beds 🙈 I didn't even realise I was no dig 😂 I'm sure I've put a pic on allotment group if you want to see Definitely warm and cosy of style I live in leggings lol hate clothes shopping Can't wait to see Mrs Kevin the carrot 🥰
Eyup Duncan she's admitted she was wrong and you were right! I think you should buy her another bigger polytunnel (cos she wants a chair in it - just imagine how quiet it'll be!)😂😂❤❤
I nearly choked then! 😂😂 It’s not often I admit I was wrong, especially not publicly. Duncan is very much enjoying a spot of “I told you so” stuck on repeat. 😩😜😂 If I have enough growing space next year, I think I’ll shorten the bed on the north side of the tunnel, to make more room for that chair 🙈
That’s not a bad shout actually.. if I make room for one. The tap is only just outside the polytunnel. You can see it at the end of the clip, wrapped up in insulation.
Only subtle changes but the width of the tunnel I absolutely do regret. Kicking myself. Fancy having to publicly admit my husband was right and I was wrong 😂
You bring up good points to consider. I have been promised a polytunnel/hothouse/potting shed but need to wait for the new tractor shed to be built as it will be at the end of it. Alas the build keeps getting put off with lamb prices dropping, interest rates rising, summer drought etc. I am hoping things will start in the ne year ready for next winter. Looking forward to seeing the hats. BTW I enjoy watching the natural you. No need for make-up and fancy clothes.
Farming is so difficult, I can relate to that one. We only have cattle, no sheep here. We didn’t get a summer drought here. February has been the driest month but a long margin for us. Hope you get your tractor shed and growing space sorted before next season.
Brilliant. I knew it could grow outdoors, in theory, I was just using the polytunnel for the sake of it. Good to know for next year though that you’ve had success 😊
It’s 3.66m Maybe have a look at the polytunnel build series. This isn’t a cheap £60 tunnel from Amazon. Every hoop is anchored in the ground with corkscrew foundation tubes. 35mm hoops, with crop bars and storm bracing. The door frames are also sunk over 50cm in to the ground too It’s withstood every storm we’ve had in the past 13 months no problem. Not moved an inch.
It gets colder in the polytunnel in the middle of winter than it does outside! Something to do with the stillness of the air apparently. The greenhouses have been moved since I made this video and they are now sonically warmer overnight than the polytunnel. Be interested to see if that temperature difference is held over winter too
I'm 70 years old and never wore makeup... my hair and beard are still dark brown... I eat a fistful of vitamins and supplements twice a day... and I commit myself to exercise for 5 minutes before i open my refrigerator door for something to eat...

I would feel like a fish out of water glammed up, so it’s good to know I’m sufferable just as I am 😜🙏🤗🤗
@@TheFarmyardGarden aww your videos are just fab, so I’ll defo be sticking around😊😊
@@maxine.9348 thank you so much. ☺️
Thank you very much.
You’re welcome. Hope it’s helped you make some better choices than I did. Oh how I wish I’d gone bigger….
Amazing video sharing
Thank you. It seems to have been a popular topic amongst viewers ☺️
Thanks for the video. I have also just got a new polytunnel this year a little smaller than yours and as yet not planted anything. I have the same thought about how to hang string down from the side for tomatoes etc next summer. I shall be interested to know what you do about this.
I shall be giving that some serious thought after Christmas. Thanks for watching and enjoy the polytunnel ❤️
It looks so good!
Thank you ☺️
I know what you mean about regrets I've just finished the 3rd rearange of the outdoor veg beds i also wish I'd gone bigger with the polly as ive got a few akward areas to figure out, this is a fab vlog for people looking to get a tunnel, bag lady you should see me at least your coats clean an at least were comfy 😂 vegies are looking fab maybe drees up as a vegie for the 1000 subs 😂 have a great weekend clare See you on Danny's live later 🥰
Ooooo Mrs Kevin the Carrot sounds appropriate doesn’t it? 😂
Comfort over looks any day of the week. I will never forget my Nan constantly telling us being warm is preferential to being fashionable. 😂❤️
It’s funny how we need to create our spaces (and make our mistakes in doing so) to realise what we actually want or need. Third bed re-arrange sounds pretty extreme. You’re as bad as me!
I will be watching the live later too.. love Danny’s lives ❤️❤️
@@TheFarmyardGarden we got a bargain a few years ago from b an M them pallet collars £2 each instead of £12:99 that's how I ended up with raised beds 🙈 I didn't even realise I was no dig 😂 I'm sure I've put a pic on allotment group if you want to see
Definitely warm and cosy of style I live in leggings lol hate clothes shopping
Can't wait to see Mrs Kevin the carrot 🥰
Eyup Duncan she's admitted she was wrong and you were right! I think you should buy her another bigger polytunnel (cos she wants a chair in it - just imagine how quiet it'll be!)😂😂❤❤
I nearly choked then! 😂😂
It’s not often I admit I was wrong, especially not publicly. Duncan is very much enjoying a spot of “I told you so” stuck on repeat. 😩😜😂
If I have enough growing space next year, I think I’ll shorten the bed on the north side of the tunnel, to make more room for that chair 🙈
Getting closer to 1000 👍
I hear it’s a magical number on RUclips. 😂🥰
A large water barrel with a battery timer and drip hoses attached may work for watering.
That’s not a bad shout actually.. if I make room for one. The tap is only just outside the polytunnel. You can see it at the end of the clip, wrapped up in insulation.
Interesting listen on what you'd change with the polytunnel
Only subtle changes but the width of the tunnel I absolutely do regret. Kicking myself. Fancy having to publicly admit my husband was right and I was wrong 😂
@@TheFarmyardGarden never do that 😅
@@ronskiuk not my wisest move 😂
Hahaha roll on Xmas hats ❤
You just made me order 3 more to up my game!
@@TheFarmyardGarden 🙈 I’ll be sure to appreciate the efforts then! You made me laugh so much I choked on my coffee tho😂

What are the dimensions of your polytunnel please? Thanks
Ooo it’s 20ft long by 12ft wide, which is just over 6m x 3.66m
Hope that helps
I grow my daikon/mooli outdoors…survives overwinter😀
Brilliant. I knew it could grow outdoors, in theory, I was just using the polytunnel for the sake of it. Good to know for next year though that you’ve had success 😊
need to dig holes and add posts for support frames.. i tell everyone not to buy 3m wide tunnels :)
It’s 3.66m
Maybe have a look at the polytunnel build series. This isn’t a cheap £60 tunnel from Amazon. Every hoop is anchored in the ground with corkscrew foundation tubes. 35mm hoops, with crop bars and storm bracing. The door frames are also sunk over 50cm in to the ground too
It’s withstood every storm we’ve had in the past 13 months no problem. Not moved an inch.
Thanks, do you have a farm ?
You look fine as you are.
Hi. Yes. We’re run and live on our own farm. ☺️
It’s a poly tunnel it’s used mainly for warmth not light
It gets colder in the polytunnel in the middle of winter than it does outside! Something to do with the stillness of the air apparently.
The greenhouses have been moved since I made this video and they are now sonically warmer overnight than the polytunnel. Be interested to see if that temperature difference is held over winter too
Roofing battens and zip ties
I was going to do that but in the end it wasn’t necessary. I used paracord fastened to the crop bars
I'm 70 years old and never wore makeup... my hair and beard are still dark brown... I eat a fistful of vitamins and supplements twice a day... and I commit myself to exercise for 5 minutes before i open my refrigerator door for something to eat...
That’s very disciplined. Impressive
