A woman joins a contest to win a Wii for her three children. The rules are simple: drink as much water as you can, without taking a bathroom break. However, the contest was flawed, and caused 10 people to lose their jobs, along with her life. How could water be toxic, or even dangerous? Isn’t drinking water a good thing? What about sports drinks? Let’s get into it.

"They signed releases so we're not responsible, it's okay" is the single most psychopathic sentence I've ever heard. RIP Jennifer.
The radio show those douches hosted was unceremoniously canned after the death, so there were consequences even if it wasn't much.
The way he said its ok... Ok for him and his collegues if something goes wrong , he didn't give a **** whether anyone got ill or died.
You mean psychopathic. Psychotic would mean he was perceiving things that weren't real, IE having delusions and hallucinations.
Exactly! Boom, sociopath diagnosed. No, I'm not a psychiatrist but come on, how can that be your first and only reaction?
Vile murderers. RIP Jennifer
"They signed releases so we're not responsible. It's okay." Truly disturbing the way the hosts view a loss of a human life.
If you know what might happen before doing it, that's really bad.
But if you didn't know before, it's not good to carry a heavy burden for the rest of your life if there are 0 things you can do about it. Serves no purpose, helps no one.

They also say you can’t because they’re in the middle of a lesson. Going to the toilet when you need to is more important than finishing a lesson.

its nice of the nurse to phone in and warn the organizers about the dangerous repercussions of the game mechanics. this reminds me of a doctor who happened to watch a lady in tv and tried his hardest to locate her and advise her to get checked for throat cancer or something after seeing something suspect on her throat ( i think there is a small mass on her throat).turns out she really has something and thanks to the doctor it was operated on early.

It's also worth noting that if you're trying to stay adequately hydrated, you can also consume certain foods that have a high water content as well to help out with this
I recently learned as well that drinking all your water for the day at once doesn't really hydrate you very well. It's better to do sips throughout the day! (But honestly it's so hard to do that & easy to forget)
as someone who suffered from dehydration after a (way too long) mountain bike ride, I can confirm that it takes hours between the time you drink and your body actually getting hydrated. It was a miserable experience, but I learned a bit.

I remember this. I thought it was just a tragic accident though. that no one ever thought about the idea that drinking too much water could hurt you. I remember the news (or at least, some of the news) acting like no one could have seen it coming and it was a big wake up call, something we'd have to keep in mind in the future. the fact that they actually had people calling in and telling them exactly what could happen, and they were dismissive of it, paints this in an entirely new light for me.
And if the court ruled that they didn't warn anyone, that means that even if the hosts didn't know, they learned it was a problem and refused to tell any of the contestants. Like, if the contestants overheard that exchange with the nurse then at least a few would've up and left.

I have no names. It was a story from my teacher from the time he was in his internship.
Some water fasts forbid any supplements
This happened in my hometown. How crazy that no one thought to look up what can happen if you drink that much water so fast.. How terrible!
I've heard of water 💦 intoxication.
I went to a mental health center that had groups for different reasons.
A couple other clients there told me that they went to a water 💦 intoxication group there.
I even remember one of them used to visit me and ask for so much ice tea that I made a gallon of ice tea and kept it in my refrigerator so I didn't have to jump up and down to make him tea.
This was so sad! I was listening live when this happened. Even then, as a teen, I was really worried about it sounding dangerous. I had no idea how bad it was

When I drink a lot of water, like during a hike, I start to get funny feeling in my stomach and a disgust for water. I hope it's not a symptom of something else I overlooked, but I'm glad that I'm dissuaded by my own body to drink too much water.
Its just water bloat my guy, same reason why she looked pregnant. Its pushing the edges of your stomach which makes a funny disgusting weighted down and boggy feeling. Shake your stomach well like that and you can feel the water sway
I am one of the people that drink a bottle in only a few gulps...
the "secret" is to drink often, but only in sips. water bladders are perfect for that (camel back and alike).
@@penedrador Great. Thanks for sharing with us a technic to drink in an unhealthy way. Seriously, don't try to bypass the alarms of your body. There's a reason why your body tries to stop you from drinking too much in a short amount of time.
@@gokudomatic what? I'm not talking about drinking the whole bag at once...?
@@penedrador You're not? I could swear you said that.

Good. Glad the station staff got in trouble.
I hope both the families are alright! I couldn’t last losing my mother or brother. My niece and aunt are both suffering from a coronavirus. My aunt is worse because she has the flu combined with it! I hope they are okay.
I'm always dehydrated so I've made it a habit to take a drink every time I hear or see the words "drink" "water" "thirsty" etc. I drank almost an entire bottle of water while listening to this before I noticed the irony. Now I'm waiting while my bathroom is under maintenance. 😖
