Probably there was an anniversary of some sort, or a change in the financial situation (or both) that prompted the change.
My grandma had agoraphobia for most of her life, but it became really severe towards the end of her life. It started when she had a heart attack and became afraid of going far away from home, in case it happened again and there was no one to help her. Over the years it progressed from being afraid to go too far away, to being afraid to leave her own yard, to being afraid to go outside at all. She started spending more and more time in the guest bedroom of her home, and like the two cases described here, one day she went in and just... never came out. She spent the last few years of her life in that room, on absurd doses of tranquilizers that her irresponsible doctor would prescribe, watching TV and drifting in and out of consciousness. Ironically, when she finally did pass away, her heart--the thing she was so worried about for years--was the last thing to go.
RIP, Grammy. I hope wherever you are, you're not afraid anymore.
💞
What you said about the heart is similar to my mom. They diagnosed a weak heart at her, and over about 5 years, her basket of medicine to take every day filled more and more... One medicine against the side effects of the other. After 10 years suffering, she died from what i believe the many medicines she had to take, and the last thing pumping straight and strong when she was in her final coma was her "weak" heart. 😭
'Grammy' lol
You guys didnt think to get her therapy? A nurse? Nothing?

It's really good that you took a supportive and encouraging angle about mental health. I feel bad for the husband who got put in jail. He wasn't a doctor. He did what he could. It's hard to help people when they don't want it.
I would just like to contribute that there's a reason why it's the bathroom that seems safe.
In many homes, bathrooms are the only room that has a lock on the door handle. If you've tried to escape someone else in your home, the bathroom seems like a decent option because of the lock. The abuser can't get in. So it becomes a safe haven of sorts to wait out the storm until they aren't going to hurt you anymore.

I had agoraphobia as a teen. I was bullied at school and beaten at home and funnily enough, the only place I could actually avoid that was the downstairs toilet, the only room with a strong lock and I actually did wind up sleeping in their multiple times so I can really empathise with the security it brings. Though it's still not completely safe.

It's so weird this showed up as a recommendation. My next door neighbour got trapped in his bathroom a couple of weeks ago and only got out when I heard him yelling through the ventilation fan and called the building manager to let him out. 😅 I was so glad it wasn't me! I was diagnosed with agoraphobia about 7 years ago and I still go through bad patches at times. Lockdown has not been great for it as staying at home too much is one of the biggest triggers for me to spiral back into it. It's not a fun thing to live with, having a panic attack at the mere thought of having to do groceries is no way to live.
The encouragement at the end towards those listening who may be suffering from this and the careful choice of words isn't unnoticed.

My agoraphobia started as my hyperventilating when I'd walk into the cafeteria at school during lunch time. It evolved into me avoiding groups at lunch altogether. Nowadays, 15 years later, I have trouble leaving my house without anxiety. It has steadily been at the very least, only going to very specific gas stations and places when I was working. Anything new or outside my routine gave me debilitating anxiety.

I got so scared when you said that
I imagined to be trapped and become a glass statue, and then be displayed at a museum as Art, and be able to leave someday lol
That's why you (royal) should only ask the genie for some kind of "dependent immortality." Something that is otherwise readily accessible, like sunlight or water or whatever, so in these freak events you can still receive the sweet relief of death. Unless you're captured and tortured, I guess. I don't know, I try not to dwell on how awful we (humans) all are...

My cat once trapped himself in the bathroom. He closed the door, then opened a drawer that was in front of the door so that the door couldn’t be opened from the outside. You think you took the hinges off? How do you not remember
@@evilpimp4371 This was over 17 years ago. I was, like, 8.
If the door opened inwards (thus, getting stuck by the drawer), the hinges would have been on the inside, also.
Maybe you hired a contractor to help out, and that's why you don't remember exactly what was done?
@@iloveprivacy8167 that could be it.
@@iloveprivacy8167 depends on how far open they could get the door and how the hinges are set. If there's enough space when the door is partially opened to get a nail or other strong piece of thin metal in there, you could potentially get it under the bolt and tap it out with a hammer.
2:15 I love my best and I'd do anything for her. But jumping into an outhouse toilet for her phone is where I cross this line. As a matter of fact, I'd be too scared to use an outhouse so this will 100% not happen.
I was in bed constantly for four years with physical (heart) and mental (OCD / anxiety) problems, ignored by five people living in the same house - my wife and children 😢 I couldn’t read, listen to radio, play music or watch TV because severe OCD since childhood prevented me touching things for fear of damaging them.

This is interesting. I always thought of agoraphobia as fear of large open spaces while I have always have thought of claustrophobia (which my mother has - it can be annoying...she won't use an elevator alone or at all if it is less than 5 stories and she is terrified to fly, not because of the height or planes, but because she can't escape - she was locked in a bathroom as a kid by her brother and the door got stuck and a locksmith had to come break her out and it scarred her for life) as fear of places you cannot get out of or escape. So to hear the same definition apply to both is interesting and something I need to look closer at out of curiosity.
As someone who has gone through trauma. I used to lock myself in the bathroom to escape what was hurting me. So i can understand how they developed agoraphobia. They definitely needed help though this is a form of self destruction.
