Great video as always. Decent timing for this product too now that the Waldorf keyboard eurorack case has been discontinued for just over a year, leaving a gap in the market.
I see this as more or less a clean looking eurorack performance unit, especially when set up for polyphonic use and you are a keyboard musician. If you have a large collection of eurorack modules in a studio case, this would be a nice all-in-one gig performance case, that you can select and then swap modules in and out from your studio eurorack case. At least it looks a lot cleaner than lugging around a Arturia Keystep pro with a standard eurorack case.
This feels like the right way to expand just enough beyond my Pittsburgh Structure case. Lots of functionality and interface potential. I would want to put my sequencers in this for easy programming, and have them feed out to the main rack. Thanks for this review, and for just being the genius I wished lived next door! Bo, you are Ace!
I know they have different widths, but it would be neat if they had a variant of the BigEARS to attach a NiftyCASE to the top of a NiftyKEYZ, in case people are interested in upgrading and need more space anyway :) Oh well, time to bring out the 3D Printer.
I like the idea of creating a small rig. Maybe made up of modules I need to learn or spend more time with. Something I can take out of my office and annoy my family with in closer proximity. This is cool.
hahaha...another rookie yelling about something that is the current hype...get lost m o r o n , this has been around for decades and now you're talking about the future
I still love my Niftykeyz, but man I really wish the 4-voice polyphony had some better allocation options. I would much prefer either lowest or oldest key priority so that notes don't get stolen when I play a bass line under a melody. \
Hi BoBeats. I am experiencing an annoying MIDI feedback loop with my NiftyKeyz due to all my keyboards having dedicated IN, OUT, and THRU ports, but NiftyKeyz not. I use Local-OFF mode, sending MIDI to my DAW and back to the NiftyKeyz. However, because the OUT/THRU is combined, the NiftyKeyz sends everything it receives back through the MIDI OUT/THRU, causing the loop. I couldn't find an option in the manual to disable MIDI THRU. Could you guide me on how to resolve this issue?
What is the advantage f this compared to having a giant box.. and having the Arturia step pro as a sequencer.. Does the Arturia has a better or worst sequencer, arpeggiator?
This video made me Buy the NiftyKeyz! very nice, i have a questions until my arrives tho, u said its not true polyphony because u dont have a filter per voice and no adsr per voice whats the disadvantages of the setup u showed there? to me it sounds quite like a polyphony i would expect.
Wow, all out media blitz day for this product I guess. Those looking at this as an entry to eurorack need to seriously consider the longer term cost of modules as related to control surface (keyboard) and racking. If the form factor/nostalgia/similar are a primary factor then this looks compelling. At the same time a keystep pro + Doepfer 6UX86 or Behringer Go case are not much more for significantly more capability and, for the Doepfer, better power.
Keystep pro is 450 euro here, which puts it pretty close to the entire KEYZ. But you are right: eurorack means you have plenty of options to choose from. This is one option. And no media blitz at all. There was what, 3 youtubers making a video. Robin, myself and Nick.
@@BoBeats Perhaps you underestimate your well earned reputation and reach in the community? My only point was for one jumping in to seriously consider the implications of saving $200-$300 up front.
Just doesn’t look right having all these cables over the keys! You could build a very expensive keyboard with this, mind! Not my cup of tea. Modular takes patience and love for the tech genre. Hats of for showing it off in a cool way Bo.
Great review as ever 👍 I would love to start in the world of the rack anyone point me in the right direction video or article ie what units to by first cheers paul.
A case for people that hate modular.😂 The cable over keyboard issue indicates that things haven’t been thought out. If you want something that works rather than just eye candy, just get a keystep with your modular. Money saved and cable issue solved.
Great video Bo. This really makes me want to finally get into the Eurorack modular world. As I am someone who enjoys multi function gear and keyboards. Pray for me and my wallet 🥲
want to say here about audio clearing you used for your voice audio in this video - it's has toooo aggressive settings, net pleasant for my ears at least. at the phrase stopped - next is so empty sound, possibly without any signal, like total silence. usually in your videos you have some music, so it's not as hearing as in this video.
Isn't this the company with millions of customer complaints about the build quality of their faulty eurorack cases? Isn't this the same idea that didn't work for Waldorf and was discontinued because no one cared? what a cute couple!
description in one word: overpriced. It is a basic midi keyboard which costs around 100-250 USD with a slightly bigger case and a power supply. Why does it cost 600? There is no other reason that there are not many options on the market. I hope behringer loosens up this market.
TBF an Intellijel 104HP Palette (roughly equivalent space) plus the 1U MIDI to CV module for it would set you back the same amount. And then you’d still need the MIDI controller, an LFO module, and a slew limiter module to get all the functions out of this case.
That's like saying "a car is overpriced in comparison to a motorcycle." Sure, both have engines and wheels, but the car has 4 seats and air conditioning. In this case, what you're paying the extra money for is a sturdy metal case, polyphonic MIDI/CV converters, arppegiator, built-in mult and mixer and Eurorack power bus.
Far be it for me to say eurorack isnt expensive But like others have said: Midi keyboard with arp + midi cv + poly capability + split capability + mixer + usb + mult and more.. that gonna set you back a bit for sure.
Well, you are right to say that if you consider these features than it is a reasonable price. I see it from an engineering point of view. All these "marketing" features cost next to nothing to build. It is an empty case with a midi keyboard. Considering everything you mentioned this should not cost more than 300-350 USD. 600 USD is far too much.
Always a good time when Bo calls me up, no exception today!
Dope product, happy to help with this. 🙏🙏
Thanks!
This goes a long way toward making eurorack accessible. It's like... halfway between a Matriarch and a traditional rack.
Can I just say, much kudos to you my good sir! This has to be one of the most elegant polyphony/paraphony in eurorack setups I’ve heard
I'm not one for modular, but this case has a TON of super useful features! Great video, Bo (and Jorb)!
Very cool product. You guys make it harder to avoid the modular temptation every day! Great stuff as always. Thanks Bo! (and Jorb)

It seems like its pretty decently built. I hope they continue to expand the lineup, maybe update the nifty case a bit.
I love these surprise cameos. They remind me of hero team ups in comic books. Very interesting video too!
YUSSSS!!!! Was just about to buy the case, one sec ABORT! ABORT MISSION !!!
Thanks. BO! Great review! And thanks to Jorb, too!
Wow! I really like this one. May have to make this my primary Eurorack keyboard. Thanks for a great demo/review!

Perfect timing for this product really, with the Waldorf KB37 being discontinued.
Split mode!? Instant Buy it is.. wanted this in a Moog synth for a long time.. now i'll just eurorack one myself.
It’s an amazing piece! Had my for a few weeks now and I can’t stay away from it!
The worst part about having one is deciding what to put in it because you’ll want to put everything into it 🤷♂️
@@sonalsystem That's a nice problem to have!
I just learned that they made a pretty cool filter and oscillator for a damn good price.

So it’s a cross between a palette case and the Waldorf keyboard case? Excellent!
Just like building your own Moog grandmother
Nice splits, poly.. i ordered one! Looking forward to put my Eaganmatrix module with my joystick in :)
Modular is the future, I'm so excited for the next 5-10 years, gonna be wild.

Lovely patches and great video Bo! Thanks tons!
Not my wheelhouse but watched through anyways. Great vid Bo!
This really makes me wish for a black niftycase
I wish my Waldorf kb37 would have the 4 voice polyphony functionality of the Nifty. Otherwise I happy with it :)
Great video Bo. I could see this as a decent synth in my setup and almost makes me want to go modular. Thanks.

huge stuff!
Incredible idea, waiting for it , but too expensive, I give it 200 dollar 250 at max
this looks sick!!
This is pretty cool, did anyone notice the logo on the box?
This is the way….!
It's only problem is that you can't access the keys when a cable mess is blocking it
Gotto cable manage that! I’m not a good role model for this tho 😅👌

I like it. But I will wait for the 73 keys version ;-)
So, bye bye to the Minilogue? :P
haha you could totally build an expensive minilogue with this case
Just like my Moog, just more keys :)
When we can see some eating videos from you? 😁

The keys aren't fatar? For 600 euros that's a really big downside IMHO.

It's not affordable, furthermore it's extremely expensive as there is nothing but an empty synth case without instrument.
