    6 years ago, I decided to change my Boiler, from our good old reliable free-standing Worcester, to one of these popular ''COMBI' boiler's. Buy a Vaillant they all said, The German Rolls Royce of Boiler's.
    After the guarantee ended, weve had to call out the 'repairman' 5 times, despite the servicing. Constant l;oss of compression, failed 'scensor '? a tiny bit of plastic. I jokingly asked the repaiir guy, how much is that, a fiver ? '' Add a naught '' he said. Then the Pump was ''Suspiciously slow'', and, 'Probably Sticking.'' ''It could fail, but when ??? nobody can tell.'' After I checked every Rad and joint accessable for leaks, it still cuts out ( first thing in the morning -it's favourite time for a rest) = no pressure again. VAILLANT--? NEVER AGAIN.

    4. Unplug connection and remove pump head (for easier access)
    5. Remove diverter valve as explained in this video. Remove pressure sensor as explained in this video.
    6. Unscrew copper pipe to pump (right side).
    7 Unscrew connection to expansion vessel.

      Mister Zee you have drained the boiler before isolating the valves under the boiler always use an Allen key to do this not a screwdriver. You don’t have to remove the diverter valve just the big silver clip connecting the pump and diverter but it would make it easier for you. If you are changing the complete pump you won’t need to take the head off . At the end of the day as long as you get it out without damaging the boiler or yourself it makes no odds always follow the manufacturers instructions to help you. Thanks for watching cheers

    ecotec pro28, lcd no power, pcb has 240, but boiler looks dead. removed mech.clock, as the on/off/reset knob was always loose and not selecting anything. But boiler has worked previously with knob broken. Saying that, my first thought was to check this? Had someone moved it? I popped plastic latch at top of clock panel, visually checked it, and put it back. Boiler came to life, lcd showed temp and call for heat. I noticed no ignition attempt, but after 1min the power died, but spur was still lit and fuses ok. I removed clock again and same thing? Boiler lights up but goes off shortly after.
    Im guessing pcb.....but.....it turns off at a stage where the pcb may be giving power/signal for pump/fan to come on. So it may be one of them also? What do you think?
    I had 10mins withboiler as it was midnight, so need to check it further.

    Derek - another great video - very informative. I was shocked about the catalogue of faults that are "common" on these boilers. As a professional engineer, but not in the boiler business, this indicates to me poor quality design and development by the boiler manufacturers with the public left to pick up the bill for this. Are all manufacturers this poor or are there some with a much better reliability record in your experience? Also if putting new boilers on old dirty systems is problematic, what method of system cleaning would you advocate?

    • @tomkatgastraining
      @tomkatgastraining  3 года назад +1

      Julian Lindley most of the time it’s not the boiler it’s the install or lack of servicing for some reason customers don’t think a boiler needs checking and servicing every year. I think the best way of cleaning a system is a magnaclean and then a magnetic filter to catch the bits over the year. Thanks for watching and your comment cheers

    Derek, can you explain/show me how the boiler uses the flue gasses to “reheat” the water to make this a condensing boiler please? How some of the heat is taken from the flue gasses to reuse to heat the water....

    • @tomkatgastraining
      @tomkatgastraining  4 года назад

      Simon Stones this type of boiler is called a double pass heat exchanger. It has 2 coils of 10mm pipe inside the heat exchanger that draws most of the heat out of the flue gasses. Because it takes most of the heat out of the flue gasses it makes the water vapour in the flue gasses turn back into water (below 55oc) that’s why it’s called a condescending boiler. Hope that helps

    • @simonstones1918
      @simonstones1918 4 года назад

      Tomkat Gas Training I think I get that. I was under the impression the flu glasses pass back over the heat exchanger and in doing so, giving the water inside the pipes a double helping is heat energy. But you’re saying it’s ALL done inside the heat exchanger, in one go shall we say....?

    How come you say should have co2 reading between 8.2-10.2 but in the manufactures instructions its saying 9.0 + or - 1 just confused me. Great video again please keep them coming !!

      also sorry how would you check the rubber hoses on the flow and return, are they meant to be flexible and soft or hard and rigid? and if they needed to be changed what would you change them for? many thanks.

      Vaillant now say co2 reading of 8.2 to 10.2 because engineers were changing the readings when they didn’t need to also Vaillant do a copper tube replacement for the hoses. Thanks for watching cheers

    Brilliant video, thanks a lot for this! I have a bit of an issue at the moment with my bar going above 3.0.. I tried isolating and draining boiler but when I turn it back on, the bar creeps back up to 3.0 within a few minutes. I'm trying to figure out if it's a broken filling loop or maybe expansion vessel... how can I be sure what the problem is or would it just be a trial and error situation? I did notice a very slow leak coming from the filling loop but not at the valve end, at the other end. Any advice would be much appreciated.

      In that situation it’s normally the expansion vessel to check it isolate the flow and return blow the water out of the boiler then you can check the pressure you are looking for about 0.75 bar thanks for watching cheers

      Hi, did you fix your pressure problem ?
      We had similar issues where the pressure dropped and eventually pinned problem to the heat exchanger leaking via the condense outlet, so you never saw where leak went.

      @@tomkatgastraining I have BAR 0.6 or 0.7 constantly flashing on this exact boiler. Their are no leaks anywhere on the entire system that i can find visible and water taps / radiators all heat well. Anything to consider?
