What I love about Charlie is that he's so dedicated to just being a great drummer. You can see the passion in the way he tinkers. So much fun to watch him play.

Modern Metal Drumming owes much to this man. He was blasting beats in 1982 and continues onto today.
How this guy isn't near the top (or AT the top) of every modern "Best Drummer" list, I'll never know.

Hell yeah. Charlie and Paul Bostaph are the best drummers from the 80’s Thrash Metal scene. Lombardo is close but he lags slightly behind from my observations. You can’t count anyone from Megadeth since there were so many drummers however if Gar Samuelson didn’t kill himself with drugs and kept improving he would have the top spot considering where his skill level was at in the 80’s while strung out on heroin which is the most unhealthy thing any person can do never mind an elite musician. If I learned one thing from some of the best musicians in the world is stay away from drugs.

Fill in drummer for Slayer AND Testament. Of course the King of the 80's drummers is Gene Hoglan. Can't forget about him.

Dave Lombardo is definitely still my favorite thrash drummer just because of how creative he was for being self taught, but god damn Charlie and Gar Samuelson barely get any of the praise they deserved. They were definitely the best technically, and had amazing groove, they could actually swing, and add slight elements of jazz that work so well

Growing up I listened to so much and the rule was that Dave Lombardo was king of thrash, I was always that kid that said Charlie. To me still the undisputed top dog of thrash. I guess I'm the guy who buys a Saab or an Alfa Romeo not a BMW or Mercedes? Rock on! 👍🤘

I swear to God I kept hearing Neil Peart through the first half of those video in a weird way ..... then the clip with the blocks came in and it's literally a part of Peart's solo! Charlie is a fucking beast!

He is good because he can do more than metal drumming. If you can groove with snare hi hat and a single bass drum pedal then you got it. He’s got it.
Double bass drummers often overuse that aspect while neglecting the basics of drumming.

Charlie and Tom were my 2 favorites when it came to thrash drummers.
Great to see him doing doubles on the kicks... for the life of me, I cannot get this down.. Picking my battles, I have given it up. Not like I am ever gonna be in a metal band playing these tempos, I am almost 50 and I do wedding bands and pubs like. But it would be nice just to be able to.
I'm working on it, too. There's some great videos on RUclips that give great pointers on ankle techniques, heel/toe technique for double strokes. Biggest thing is patience and practice. Good luck!
Among the big 4 he is the most technical drummer in 4 some might said dave lambardo but to me dave lambardo is great but not technical he is just super fast to me .... But cherlie has great fills more technical than other big 4 drummer and atill he is as fast as dave i guess
