YES, FINALLY!!!! Charlie is one of the founding fathers of thrash metal drumming. Idc what anyone says, Joey jordison did not create the blast beat, that would be Charlie in his side band S.O.D. The song is called Milk!!!
@@punxsutawneyphil3944 we both agree on that. I'm just saying there are tons of people that firmly believe that he did it first. I never believed it, like I said about Charlie and Milk. And Charlie very well may not have invented them, but I really don't remember ever hearing them before Charlie. And I've been drumming for 40+ years.
@@randywissler9923 I know. I didn't laugh about you, I laughed about these people who think Joey invented it. I'm not sure about Charlie as the creator of blast beats, I think it's either Morbid Angel or Napalm Death. But we both agree on blast beats being played since the 80s, waaaayyy before Joey. 👍
Not only is Charlie a monster drummer but he writes a majority of the Anthrax guitar riffs too. Not to mention that he is doing a stellar job playing in Pantera - nailing all of Vinnie Paul's drum parts.
They’re one of the big four of thrash metal. Charlie & Frank, especially, are vastly underrated, fantastic players. & Charlie is now playing with Pantera
In my humble opinion, Charly is the best drummer in thrash metal. His best job can be seen since "spreading the desease" until "sound of white noise" albums. I recomed any track of these recordings
Hey Andrew, It's awesome watching you react to Charlie Benante,he's an amazing drummer.i grew up in the Bronx NY around the corner from his house and his uncle had a small candy store up the block from me.i remember hearing him practicing nonstop in the 80's he's a dedicated true master of his craft and you should definitely dig deeper into his catalog of music...looking forward to more of his music in the future.
Cool, Anthrax! If you need another old school thrash recommendation, try Masque of the Red Death by Manilla Road. Randy "Thrasher" Foxe was an insanely talented drummer, and you've never heard anything quite like his kick rhythms.
Hey Andrew! That was really cool. I'm right handed and my teachers always encouraged us to play open handed and closed so that we could experience the accessibility of all the elements of our kit. Playing open handed is a completely different animal, it's not easy, but it really does afford one more access to elements and style. One of the best at this is Dave Matthew's drummer, sorry, his name escapes me. He plays on Yamahas that I'll bet are worth about $100,000.00. That Man is well worth checking out, he's a great musician.
Fun fact: before he had a double kick (very young) he would "fake" it by playing his left hand on a floor tom to mimic the double bass sound. His single right foot is also killer, because he loved iron maiden's Clive and Nicko. (My opinion) Dude bro, just play studio version of "Among the Living" .... I've been here long enough Andrew...make it happen mate! Please and thank you!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums It's really cool, especially the extended drum solo at the end. Exceptional stuff as a fellow drummer who would really struggle to replicate it 😁
Charlie is a great drummer. I like that the video was recorded so simple, but still captured the drums. I would love you to do a reaction video on Brent Smedly from Iced Earth and the song Dantes Inferno. I don't think Brent get the recognition he deserves. His double bass patterns are insane and incredible difficult.
@Andrew Rooney Drums PLEASE you need to see this young man play an entire Tool album note by note in ONE TAKE! His name is " Tyler Visser " so impressive to watch, I'm blown away
I remember reading in an interview years ago that Charlie said one thing he likes to do when practicing is messing around with rudiments and figure out how he can use them around the kit. I also want to say that Modern Drummer transcribed the notation for this song, so it may be floating around on the internet out there. I took one look at the notation and was like, "Nope!"
I've been waiting for this and I'm a little bit underwhelmed by the reaction. Perhaps the song must be listened to with the band accompanied to fully appreciate? Or maybe this song isn't as gnarly to drummers as it is to non drummers?

@@punxsutawneyphil3944 alot of people over the years have been crediting Joey with creating it.
@@randywissler9923 Really? 😀 Blast beats have been played since the 80's. Slipknot's first album was released in 1999. 🤔😀

The RUclips content Charlie put out during lockdown was superb. Great collaborations and some surprising covers.

The song In My World has one of the most awesome drum fills. Charlie is known for his double kick. "Heels down baby!"

RIP Vinnie and Dime!
Charlie also did a lot of cool covers with other musicians during the Koof lockdown.
I'm not very familiar with Anthrax or Charlie but it seems like he's got some really good chops.

I don't think that was the full version? I remember a much wilder ending to that song with cross arm drumming..

Charlie is actually a Godfather of thrash from the big 4 days.

another good one is Charlie in the band S.O.D. "Charlie don't cheat" lol
Great first song to check out.
When ya get a chance, Delta Empire covered this song also. With the better camera angles etc
Double kick
I would like to see Charlie become Metallica's new drummer one day. he is so god damn talented drummer.
Nobody Knows Anything is forgotten "drummer" song, here is better view (Delta Empire version):

Not the best CB tune, you have to hear Anthrax A.I.R, Indians or Out of Sight, Out of Mind. CB is one of the best thrash metal drummer ever!
Pretty lame way to introduce you to anthrax. Has nobody recommended any of their like good stuff?
So much better than Lars
He was a bad choice for pantera, Gene Hoglan is perfect for that, but anyway…
