The replacement stems have a spacer that separates two brass washers. If you remove these when inserting, you can tighten the threaded housing and use that to get the stem farther into the valve. Once it's in far enough, you can put them back on and finish tightening. This avoids the tapping and makes it far easier to stem inserted. Even lubricating the o-ring doesn't always make it easy enough to insert. The red dot always says up, but that will align the handle to be underneath. If you want the handle on top, you'll need to have the red dot on the bottom.
You forgot to clean the valve body with a 1/2" wire brush then clean inside with a rag...then lube the vaulve and the cartridge with plumbers grease before sliding it in...thats why you had a hard time inserting the cartridge...no worries...live and learn
God Love You. After an hour of no success your tip saved the day. Took mere minutes to get that pesky cartridge out. 10 more minutes and job was done. Thanks!
100% wrong ! You are supposed to put plumbers grease around the black rubber o-ring. By doing this, you should only have to use a minimum amount of pressure to insert the new cartridge in. You should always check with you finger the inside of the pipe to make sure their no corrosion inside. If you do, carefully remove it before putting the new cartridge in. If you damage the black o-ring during insulation, your shower will leak. NEVER use anything to hit the new cartridge in. Hope this helps
I might have that Or I might not have pulled the entire cartridge out. Is that possible? I think I unscrewed it and left a piece in. Now I can't get it Seated again.?

Thanks man, you saved the day with your example of how to put the cartridge all the way in (hitting a little). Great video.

Thanks for your comment
yes, I agree need to grease the O-ring
What do you do when you can’t loosen the ring around the cartridge?
He donot now what he doing at least practice be fore
Try spraying it with wd40 to loosen the rust build up in there
Call plumber
Get a bigger wrench...
The red dot should be pointing down (per some other RUclipsrs)
Next to the dot, it should say up or down. I've replaced over 20 of these and only one time the red dot went on the bottom.
No grease on the o ring?
Do you have the part number for the cartridge? Where is the best place to buy it?
Home Depot
I get them at Home Depot, Ace , Lowe’s
I'm pretty sure you had the hot and the cold backwards. I know from experience you always put the The part with the red Facing down on the cartridge.
Red is on top when the handle is on the bottom. Red goes on the bottom when the handle is on top. At least from my experience.
Thanks for the video but you have to get a better cameraman. The money shots are half out of the picture.
Anybody here ever seen or experienced the "No mix" replacement cartridge for Mixet shower valves?

Does anyone know if you can do this without shutting off the water?
No you have to shut off the water
Yes, just wait when the City water tower falling off, or some construction company busting the main water supply line nearby!
You have to shut it off
Yes you can.. just get the whole family ready with buckets😂
