I'm glad I watched this. My cartridge was stuck as well. I did not have the option of buying a puller like you, so was able to work it out about an inch and sprayed some dawn dish soap mixed with water in and worked it back and forth with a pair of channel locks. After 15 minutes was able to finally pull it free. The rubber seal had dislodged and was preventing it from sliding out. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much for the video. I appreciate that you let us know what DIDN'T work like it was supposed to and that it's still hard to get out sometimes even with the correct tool. So many videos make things look so easy because they edit out the problems and it makes me doubt myself when doing it!!
In case it helps someone else, I lost water pressure in the shower and no hot water. What fixed my issue completely was replacing the cartridge AND removing the shower head and giving it a 30 minute white vinegar soak including pouring some vinegar from the outside in through the top. This combo gave me back hot water and water pressure!!
Best and most thorough yet concise video I found for a moen shower cartridge. Thank you so much! You helped me get through my exchange especially when I thought I was going to rip the plumbing out of the wall pulling on it. 1000% agree, the cartridge removal tool is a necessary tool. It's like 15 or 20 bucks. Just get it and save yourself a headache, time, and sanity!
Thank you! Your video was super helpful and let us diagnose and fix the problem - in our case, the water wouldn't stop running after my Sunday morning shower! Of course, our plumber doesn't work Sundays and said he was booked Monday. No water to the house motivated us to venture into the unknown of replacing the cartridge. My only suggestion that may be helpful to others: we had difficulty getting the new cartridge to push fully in, as the provided silicone grease wasn't sufficient. After buying a tube of grease and liberally spreading it inside the tube and around the new cartridge, the cartridge slipped right in. Wonderful to have water and be able to shower.
Thank u so much for the step by step instructions, i actually did it myself and i could not belive it, never done something like this before. I appreciate your video very much!
Don’t pay for the cartridge. Places like Home Depot will give them to you for free. Moen lifetime warranty has their sales reps keeping most stores it deals with supplied with them.
Your quality is insane. Please make more content.
Appreciate it! Straight to the point is how I like it.

You were not kidding. That cartridge would have been impossible to get out without that tool. Thank you so much for making this video.
I bet this happens frequently in our area due to all of the calcium in the water. Nice work!
Yeah I started drinking city tap water instead of milk. Such a great cheap alternative😂
Great tutorial! It helped save me a good bit of money not having to call a plumber.
Wow! Thanx
Did u put silicon seal back after re install
No. There is a rubber gasket on the backside of the escutcheon that should keep water out.

Thanks. Vid helped
I had to use WD-40 to get mine out along with the tool.
That’s crazy, my shower had the same issue!
This is a very common issue with these types of valves.
Thanks for watching!
Where’s my loofah time for a shower
Don't worry I have a spare!
It’s definitely hard to pull out 😉 lmfao
Those cartridges are "MFer's" to remove, even with that tool...
i usually buy another house.
