I looked at videos alllll day on how to repair a spinning handle, a shower faucet that does not get hot (but the sink does). I went to ACE and Lowe's to purchase a shower stem. Out of ALL the videos I watched, it was THIS VIDEO that showed me step by step what to do, but most helpful is that it had my EXACT shower pieces. That helped alot! I didn't know about the little tab thing in the faucet handle. Once I finally realized my shower handle had one (yes, I was one of the ones who just yanked off, but had I come across this video earlier in the day, I would have known about it). anyway I unscrewed it to reattach the handle (before I knew about it, I could NOT get the faucet to work). My guess is that whomever fixed it prior to me, also didn't know about that little tab. At any rate, thanks so much. My shower is now getting hot water, the handle works! and I've returned the pieces to both ACE and Lowe's and I'm going to cancel the plumber I had scheduled for tomorrow!!!

Thank you soooooo much for this video. A year ago, I went to Home depot, and the sales guy matched up the valve, but apparently the wrong valve. I got it in ok, but turning the valve on and turning the mixture valve was a choir. This morning I watched your video, went to Home Depot with the P/N you indicated, MXT07, and followed your instructions, and now it works like a charm. Good Video....

I replaced the valve a few years back, but have never been able to adjust the temp easily over the past years. . . . .and it has been a hassle for my tenants. I will be replacing the valve once again, and thank you SO much for the very well done video and suggestions for matching the valve with correct unit. . . . and clear procedures with professional and detailed steps! thank you for the kind words. That day may come when you'll need to replace the complete valve. these are good but very limited to the accessories for it, even for a rental. this was one thing I did when I renovated my rental near Huntington Beach (In 2010) I replaced all valves and updated to Moem. I'll be doing the same when I renovate 2 bathrooms in my house. Sometimes a little extra is worth it in the long run. Thanks for chiming in and thank you for viewing.

I literally got a quote today from a plumber and told me it was going to cost $295 to change the cartridge I was like well let me think ability and let me try changing it myself again. A friend tried changing it and realized he didn’t install it properly and didn’t push it all the way in so it was leaking, And so I nudged it a little bit and it went all the way in. I’m sooo happy!

I had the identical valve and my shower valve was hard to turn and really had to be cranked to shut the water fully off and when you ran the shower a lot of water poured out the tub spout still. I took off all the old parts and took them over to a local plumbing supply store (they are more helpful and knowledgeable than at Home Depot) and they helped me get exactly the right replacement parts and your video walked my step by step getting the job done efficiently, which is a rare case for any of my DIY projects.

I installed a new valve after watching this video and wow what a difference. It’s all in the details. Among other errors I think I had way over-torqued the valve the first time. • @kolinken9524

Excellent video. Especially how he describes the differences in the two Mixit Cartridges. I also like the fact he cleaned everything (especially the on/off knob and hot/cold water leaver) prior to putting them back on. Regarding the white sealant around the Eustachian.. there's 2 schools of thought. One is to seal it as this gentleman did. However the 2nd school of thought is by sealing it any water caused by a leaking valve won't be able to get out and will ruin the wall behind. This is a similar thought to sealing a toilet to the floor.
A good method to clean inside the water delivery pipe is to use an old toothbrush.
While he uses Plumbers Grease to grease the inside of the water pipe and the Mixit Cartridge.. most DIY people won't have this. One can use WD-40 which is fish oil based and won't hurt either the rubber O-ring or any component. One can also use K-Y Jelly which is glycerine based and water soluble.
If you wish to save money and do it yourself you can simply pull out the old cartridge and clean it. Use quad ought (0000) steel wool on the Eustachian and Bonnet nut to clean them. Use WD-40 and an old toothbrush to clean the plastic Lever and Knob. Use WD-40 and a paper towel or soft (lent free) cloth to clean the Plumbers Grease off of the Mixit Cartridge. You'll note that over time minerals in the water causes the Plumbers Grease to become sticky. This is why I prefer WD-40 or K-Y Jelly. You can also completely unscrew the Cartridge and use a toothbrush and WD-40 to clean all the threads... then simply reassemble it. Use the 0000 steel wool or 120 grit sandpaper to clean the brass rings which go onto the Cartridge.
Many times all that is wrong with the Mixit Cartridge is that the rubber O-Ring is bad and letting water leak... this and the sticky old plumbers grease. You can simply buy an assortment of O-Rings from Harbor Freight Tools for $5.99 here's the link: www.harborfreight.com/225-piece-nitrile-o-ring-assortment-67677.html
Simply put on a new rubber O-Ring and reassemble according to this gentleman's directions. I've saved a lot of money by cleaning all the Mixit cartridges in my rentals this way.
Note: WD-40 means Water Displacement 40. It was invented in San Diego in the 1950's for the aircraft industry and military. They needed an product to displace water and stop parts from rusting and corroding. It took them 40 times to get the ingredients right.. and the basic ingredient is fish oil.

I think you meant escutcheon. If you watched how he applied caulking on the rim of the escutcheon, you would see that he did not apply any on the bottom part. That is to allow any water from a leak that accumulates behind the escutcheon to flow down to the drain below. I have seen a similar video and the plumber said to position the hole on the stem with the red mark on top not below. Which one is correct?

Thank you for the great film. I installed today a new stem MXT07, following procedure described. The only thing, the stem didn't go till the necessary position, though I cleaned and applied the plumber grease. I used a muffler hammer and knocked on it, it went in the pipe. Actually many people complain that the stem doesn't go in and think that it is a wrong one, thought it is that muffler hammer which is needed to complete the project. I also added a new handles set. Looks great! Thanks a lot again.

After 30+ years of living in this house, we were the first owners, I always thought the dumb plumbers had plumbed my shower backwards. After installing the new cartridge per your instructions (red dot down) it works like it should, so yes the red dot direction does make a difference. Also, the new O-ring must have been a bit larger and I could not get it to slide in. I got a small deep socket so as not to be hitting the brass stem (socket resting on white plastic) and tapped it in with a hammer. Thanks so mcu for the video.

Very helpful video- thank you! I almost hired a plumber to fix my leaky valve, but your video convinced me that I could fix this myself, and I did. And installing the replacement cartridge was actually pretty easy, thanks to the detailed instructions and info from this video.
One point to emphasize that I am not sure if it was mentioned or not- the cartridge comes from the factory in the "Open" position. Turn the valve to Closed before you test the water line for any leaks, or you will be freaked out like I was when you turn your water main line on again, and water comes gushing out of your faucet. And note that you will have to turn the valve about 50 times to get it to the Closed position.

Excellent video, don't know why I stumbled into other videos first which were giving wrong information or not specific enough. Thankfully, I found yours and was able to get hot and cold water from my shower.
It wasn't too easy as the circumference of the back part of the replacement cartridge was a tiny bit bigger (unnoticeable to the bare eye) than the old one. I ended up replacing the plastic washer located on the back with the one that came on the new one and using the whole old back part on the new cartridge.

Thank you! I replaced it with a new one exactly like you said, but it was still hard to turn the hot & cold handle. I found out that if you loosen the chrome cover sleeve, that goes on the main pipe over the cartridge, a little bit at a time (not loose) it will turn easier.

You helped me IMMENSELY with this video! I had a plumber out to do this for me only because I was unable to loosen the nut. When he finished he said it was "not much better" and I should tear open the wall and replace the valve. I KNEW they don't really go bad, only the cartridge. So, I went to Home Depot and got the correct cartridge. Sure enough, he had installed the wrong cartridge. You mention at about 5:05 on this video that you wished you had a picture of the difference in the two cartridges. I have one for you all! New cartridge, greased up and installed and it works like new. (Was completely unable to turn it prior to this, AFTER plumber left.) Can't seem to share in the comments, I will try to get it to you. Thanks again!

Wish that would change we could update or correct thing without completely redoing the complete video. Although I might add a link to a pic for side by side of the 2 cartridges, You could email me direct and i could try to do that. Again thank you for the comment and thank you for viewing.

I had a professional plumber doing it. Two visits a week apart. First visit, he removed the part, ordered it. Second visit he tried to install the cartridge, it didn't fit, so he combined parts from existing cartridge and the one he ordered , rebuilt it and installed (wasn't easy). $289.00.

Red dot actually goes up. IIRC, it also says "up" in tiny print.
He does it right but doesn't say it. Do not put caulk on the lower 1/4. It allows it to drain if water ever got trapped.

This video is amazing, I would just like to add one more thing if there's a plumbing supply store near you I highly suggest you go there because they should have the actual mixit cartridge that comes with a brass fitting on the back, instead of the plastic ones that come from Home Depot and Lowe's. Also make sure you tighten up that screw on the back of the cartridge. After I installed mine it worked for about a week and then it wouldn't shut off. After taking it apart I realized the screw and gaskets were left inside the valve along with three other screws and three other gaskets all the way in the back from previous cartridge replacements.

That happened to me too just now I , I shit the water off took the cartridge out and the water was still flowing out the pipe , I look inside and the screw that goes on the back of the cartridge had fell off and was stuck inside the pipe , I put the cartridge back in and took it out again and the screw came out of the pipe , I put everything back together and tried it out, hot water was on the left and cold was on the right idk how that happened 🤦🏻‍♂️
