Thank You! - This is the most understandable and best instructional video for the installation of a Mixet replacement cartridge I have found. You answered all the questions and made it very clear how to do it right the first time. The cutaway and your explanation of how the valve works was fantastic. The companies that make the cartridges should license this video.
Wow. First video I have seen that shows the rebuild and the parts needed. Amazing how manufacturers will not have a "rebuild" kit, but rather sell another complete new valve. I've spent at least a $120 for the last three Mixit valves I have replaced over 12 years. No more. After seeing your video, this will be the last time another new one goes in before the bathroom is remodeled assuming it is not a seal problem! Thank You!!!
Thank you very much for doing this! I've been having a terrible time because my 1970s-built mobile home only has hot to scalding water in my shower for the past two years. Plumbers looked at it, informed me it couldn't be fixed, and that they would have to "go in through the back" by taking out the wall in my hallway and replacing the entire thing for the low, low sum of $700. SMH. I knew it had to be something simple. You're awesome!!
*****BEST VIDEO***** EASY TO UNDERSTAND!!!!! Thank You! - This is the most understandable and best instructional video for the installation of a Mixet replacement cartridge I have found. !!!
Outstanding instructional video. And, as previously stated the best one available on RUclips. Thank you for going through the trouble of making a cut out because that explains the functionality of this faucet.
Thank you for the kind words. It is my pleasure to provide these videos. If you are not a subscriber, please consider becoming one. If you are, thank you for your support. I should have another video to post today. This one is on the Delta valve with button diverter. Thanks again for watching.
the best instructional video you spend a lot of time sectioning the valve and buying the parts in order to show how that valve work and be fixed thank you really thank you very well made
Wow, very impressive! Not only do you explain how to replace the part, but also how it works. Thank you. Your tutorial helps eliminate some of the anxiety of doing the replacement myself.
Wonderful description of the process. I found it VERY helpful. I'm the original owner of my home built in 1973 and my guest bathroom shower is very difficult to use. I've had two different plumbers tell me they can't get Mixet parts! I guess I'll have to pick up the parts myself!😄

Wow, this is the best video for fixing mixet problem. I wish to find this video before I worked on mine, which has some problems after replacing a new one.
I have these throughout our house. I've change these cartridges many times. There's one valve however always has a too hot of a water flow unless it's adjusted to a maximum flow, then it's comfortable. It can not be adjusted to just cold water. This has got me stumped.
Btw, I’m working on a new video for Delta brand. I just repaired one, stopping the water leak from the tub spout. Material cost was less than $5. I used a new cleaning technique to clean the hard water deposits from the inside of the valve body that you may find helpful. Putting CLR in a small spray bottle and spray it into the valve body. The video should be out next week.
Excellent breakdown of the functionality of this valve and cartridge. Another common problem with this cartridge is the volume being adjusted when the temperature dial is adjusted. Would be great to see the cause and solution to that if you ever make an updated video.
This is a good video, very informative. Problem is with this type of Mixet valve is that big retaining nut hardly ever comes off easily which is why they give you a new one with the valve. You have to cut it in order to get it off which can be tricky. You should make a video showing how to cut that nut off so people know how to do that. But a great video, nice to know how something works but that rear seal is not the only thing that goes bad with these Mixet valves. Best just to replace it.
I found soaking the retaining nut in white vinegar works. I soak a small wash cloth in white vinegar. Then, I wrap the nut with it. Securing it to the nut using a rubber band. Usually, after couple of hours, nut removal is much easier. Hope this helps.
My pleasure. Sorry to hear about the plumbing cost. At times, the services they offer are extremely overpriced. That’s one reason I post these videos, to help folks to save money.
I just have to parrot the other review that this in an outstanding video. Thank you for the parts info to rebuild the existing valve. For some reason none of the Mixet valves will go in the assembly ass the way so I just have to rebuild the old ones. In any event the best video out t here for Mixet valves. Thanks so much for the time you spent making this.
i watched several videos, yours is the best. thank you so much! I just installed the new valve and cartridge, but the hot and cold control was loose for some reasons, i will reinstall tomorrow.
This is one of the best video i ever seen, i did replace the stem exactly the one in the video and i solved the leaking problem, but another problem is the cold not coming out. Thanks
This video is great, still I cannot make water hot or cold, it's more or less warm even despite I follow the recommended. Likely some mixing occurs and it's not obvious how to get rid of it.
Amazing video. Thank you very much. I have this fixtures in my bath And I do not love it, it has so many problems. The little handle dial is slippery in wet conditions (all the time).
Great video, however, I cannot get the new valve to insert. I have the pre 1968 valve, which is a 6 inch stem rather than the 4 inch post 1968 stem. Everything appears to match, the insert tube feels nice and smooth, I have applied grease, but cannot get it to insert. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Ron, Compare the end of each cartridge carefully, old vs new, make sure they are the same. Once issue is resolved, please post so others benefit. Thanks.
Best video I've seen on the subject. The cutaway is great. I just replaced my cartridge. Had trouble getting it in as there appears to be an thin inner metal ring inside the tube. Your video explains how the valve works, but I still can't figure out why I was having problems with the old valve. Whenever you would shut off the water, after a few minutes the water would turn on all by itself. you could see the on/off valve turn. I attribute it to water pressure, but it still doesn't make sense. Have you experienced anything similar with this valve?
Gilbert, thanks for the kind words. Based on my experience, there are at least two versions of this cartridge being sold, one for valves made before 1968 and one for valves made on and after 1968. That being said, if you still have your original cartridge, compare it against the new one. Pay close attention to the rear of the cartridge as you do your comparison. Hopefully that will solve the mystery. If not, consider replacing the seals in the old cartridge, mainly the one in the rear. Defective rear seal is the main cause of water leak/drip. Hope this helps.
only issue I have is when you refer to the WASHER as the seat at 7.50 and the non replaceable seat as "the back area" the washers is no bigf deal to change or even the cartridge. but the non replaceable seat gets pitted and you either need a special refacing tool or the valve is junk but nice video and demonstration
Great video. I've been really frustrated trying to figure out what is wrong with mine, and this helps me understand how it works! From the day I moved into my apartment, the water has been cold. Even though the sink has plenty of hot and cold, the shower is always cold... I replaced the cartridge (MXT07), and it didn't fix anything. In fact, the old cartridge looks pretty good! But the building is really, really old. I'm wondering if this valve is pre 1969, and how I would know? Or do I have the right one and need to buy the NOMix valve? I've heard the problem could be in the body, and I promise, my landlord isn't going to fix this! So it's up to me to troubleshoot the problem.
Amazing job. Thanks for the time you put into this. Wondering if you could answer a question. I'm replacing my Mixet trim kits on our tubs/showers with the satin nickel finish kits. These have all metal handles and the temperature control handle is longer. These temp control handles have a screw to tighten into the indent on the valve for temp control, but they also have a slot at the other side, which comes with a loosely-installed machine screw and nut. Nowhere on the instructions (nor my internet search thus far) is this slot/screw setup described. It's a mystery. Any thoughts?
Thank you. Sorry, I have not seen that. However, if the trim kit is “universal”, in most cases there are extra features/pieces that are not needed for every install.
Best in youtube. Thank you. One question, my temperature knob can be rotated in one direction more than 360 degrees (can be rotated on one direction as much as I want), Is this okay? Feels like it has to stop in 90 degrees in one direction. Temperature is managed according to the position.
I put the stem in with the “up” marking in the up position and my hot and cold were wrong. In my case, the red dot needed to be down even though it said “up”
Beautiful and informative video. Best I have ever seen. What do you do when the new valve does not go in the pipe completely. It sticks. May be build up in side pipe?
One problem i have is on hot water comes out only. No matter where the temperature unit is pointing towards. Any temporary fix for that issue so i can avoid changing the whole faucet?
Amazing video thank you! Helps me understand how it functions much better. What happens if the small plastic tab was accidentally ripped off the temperature handle? Will it be loose and wiggle around? Also, I am having trouble getting hot water. I adjusted the temperature on my water heater a few weeks ago and it was perfect, but now it’s gone back to only lukewarm water. Do I need to continue turning the cartridge to adjust it to the correct position? The sink hot water comes out hot so it’s seems like a shower handle issue. If there is a way to adjust the temperature on this please let me know!
Angela, You are correct, if the small plastic piece is missing the handle is not secure properly. As for not getting hot water through the valve, it could be a damaged seal in the valve that does not allow hot water to come through. I hope this helps.
@@JustForYouDiy Thank you for taking the time to reply! Hypothetically if the small plastic tab is missing, would that affect adjusting the temperature? I turned the handles around and it looks like it is actually capable of getting hot water, but takes a lot of adjusting to find the hot water. Would this mean it’s a handle problem and not cartridge/valve? Thank you again!
Yes, the small plastic piece keeps the temp lever in-line with the position of the cartridge/stem. To verify, remove the top knob, on/off knob. Then remove the temp lever. Rotate the stem until the dot is at the bottom. Turn the water on and rotate the stem 90 degrees to the left, check water temp. Then rotate 180 degrees to the right and check water temp. By monitoring the position of the dot and the water temp you’ll get a feel for if the stem is doing its job or not. If the stem is doing its job, then, the issue is the disconnect between the temp lever and the stem. Hope this helps.
@@JustForYouDiy That does make sense! I went out and bought a new handle and now it seems like the temperature is staying in line with the cartridge. The heat is much better now thank you. The handle though is a bit hard to turn. If I want it to turn more easily likely that requires a cartridge change right? If so is there a way to find out what type I need to get? I apologize for so many questions and promise those are my last!
Happy to hear the temp issue is resolved. The issue with excessive friction when turning the handle could be the age of the cartridge. You can use silicone grease to lube the o-ring on the cartridge first. In most cases that resolves the issue. As which cartridge to buy, I found taking the original cartridge to Home Depot or Lowe’s for comparison is the best practice. Hope all works out.
I’ve had luck with white vinegar. I take an old piece of cloth and soak it with WV and wrap it around the parts that are stuck together due to mineral deposit build up. The acid in the WV slowly dissolves the mineral deposits. Hope this helps. If you haven’t, please consider subscribing to my channel.
Vinegar on soaked and a small puller worked. I kept soaking and tightening the tension on the puller over a few hours. It eventually came off. Note that my tub spout threads were seized also and I ended up pulling the 90 elbow off of the riser. Ended up cutting dry wall out to re-solder. Heads up for owners of older homes.
Hello, I have the mixet replacement cartridge and have confirmed that it is the same one. The old cartridge was extremely difficult to remove, and the new cartridge does not fit all the way into the pipe to where it should be- it goes in about an inch then stops. I have confirmed that there is no debris inside the pipe, used plumbers grease, and it still won’t fit. There is a very small lip inside the pipe which makes it very slightly narrower inside (under 1mm), however the old cartridge worked for years and is identical to the new one. Do you have any idea what a solution could be? I have been looking all over the internet for a reason as to why this is happening. Thank you for your help and informative video!
At times, I have seen severe hardwater buildup inside the valve body. And in extreme cases the valve body gets damaged. In a case of severe hardwater buildup, I have used CLR (be careful how it’s handled, read the mfg “how to use” instructions) by soaking a small piece of cloth and stuffing it in the valve body. Within minutes, it dissolves the hardwater deposits. Hope this helps. If this helps, please post the results so others could benefit.
Thanks for the video. Moved into an apartment with this design and had no idea how it worked. Is it normal for the temperature knob to be free spinning? The outer knob adjusts pressure as necessary but my inner knob will do several 360 degree turns. I can get it to “balance” on the water temperature I desire but I don’t feel any “back stops” to the hot or cold side. Was this normal operation for this design?
Thank you for the feedback. My pleasure. Unfortunately, I do not have a video for the pre 1968 valve. I have not run across one yet. However, if someone sends me one, I’ll be happy to make a video for it. That said, I have videos for Delta valve with built-in diverter and many other fun repairs.
Oddly i bought a mixet temperator/flow dial set and it didnt come with the square block for the temp dial like the one you show and the instructions on the back of the box make no mention of it either, so the final reassembly step just wont work until i get a suitable replacement. Very weird how it was missing this part
Terrific, precise instructions, thanks so much! I have replaced a few but have a problem with my last replacement. When the water (outermost) handle is turned to open, the Hot-Cold handle spins without actually getting to the hot water (without a lot of guessing and hit-and-miss.). What did I do wrong?
Thank you. Most likely the plastic tab from the handle is not in the hole of the valve cartridge. There, the temperature knob is not connected to the cartridge.
Why are my plumbers complaint about the mixit valve creating a crossover issue which make is difficult for them to find a leak in a slab (if leaking in slab)? How is the cold water crossing over if the mixit faucet is turned off in both showers? When they shut the hot water off at water heater and I turn on a hot water at bathroom sink i still get water on the hot side. And I am getting cold water because it is crossing over due to the mixit valves in our two showers. Any tricks to stopping the crossover without replacing the two shower valves?
@@JustForYouDiy plumbers recently replaced so I turned them a little extra tight and I did set the valve to cold and that actually worked. I just don’t know why my plumber didn’t think about that. Now I am almost certain that our slab leak is a cold water leak. We should find out Monday when the leak detecting company arrives. I appreciate the video I subscribed.
@@JustForYouDiy thank you. Video was great. Trying to figure out if pex is safe or not since the city puts chlorine in the water and lawsuits about pex makes it difficult to decide if I should use pex for rerouting the cold water once they find the leak. Glad I was able to stop the crossover. Just don’t want to put anything in a slab anymore pex seems right but too much noise if it is safe or not safe.
I’ve used PEX in the past. In one specific case was to repair a slab leak. I ran the new line through the wall. I posted a short video of that repair. Slab leak repair without cutting into the slab, use PEX to fix ruclips.net/video/Adc4h7p_ucE/видео.html
Replaced Mixet shower cartridge w/brass bottom one from a plumbing store because the one from Home Depot (w/white bottom) wouldn't go back in the pipe(even w/silicone). Water pressure is good, but hot water doesn't seem to be as hot now. :(
I purchased the Mixet stem and for some reason, it would not go in, it looks like the 1/2 cutout at the base is not as large as my last one. I tried repairing my old one with the parts you showed, I saved over $18.00. Do I have to tap the new stem in with a hammer to make it go in, or are they just making them different. I purchased MXT07 Post-1968, my home was built in 1989. Thank you for the good video.
Paul, thank you for supporting the channel and reaching out. Please examine the end of the cartridges, new & old one, to ensure they are the same. If they are, examine the inside of the valve body and look for hard water deposits. If you see some, I usually use white vinegar to remove it, soaked piece of cloth with WV. Or, I use CLR. With CLR I make sure it’s all removed as it will attack seals. The other option is to take a picture of both cartridges and email it to Mixet. They are part of Masco group. I hope this helps.
@@JustForYouDiy The stems are identical, except for one thing. At the base, there is a knotted out area half way around, my old stem has a larger cutout than the new one, and for some reason when I put the new one in, it will not pass all the way in, I can hear and feel it tap against the inside ridge of the tube, not allowing it to enter, should I tap it in with a hammer? Do you have any suggestions? Thank You
@@BlahBlah-we6kx I took the stem out and then removed the O-rings, and replaced them. No need to buy a stem if it is OK just replace the O-rings and the seat washer
@@JustForYouDiy - the small notch on the end of the cartridge was smaller than the one on the old valve. i had to clean up the old one and grease it and re-install it. Seems to be working fine... for now.
Spray white vinegar into the valve hoping to get it in around and behind the cartridge. Then, try it again after an hour. I’ve seen this loosen the hard water deposits and free up the cartridge. Hope this helps.

Angela,
You are correct, if the small plastic piece is missing the handle is not secure properly.
Great detail. I have a metal handle that is stuck on. Is there a tip for getting that off? Don't want to pry it. Screw is taken out obviously.
Please can you add the link to matching valve body for MIXET post 1968 system
Unfortunately, this is the only video I have for the Mixet valve.
@ thank you so much for your response, I will give it a try!
I believe that’s how the older ones operate.
I didn't notice the stops at the valve body, are they present or been removed? The stops on my valve protrude a lot.
If you are referring to water shutoff stops, this valve does not have stops. Please see my other video for delta valve showing how stops work.
Excellent video! Thank you..
Thank you. Please share it with others. Much appreciated.
Excellent video. Thank you.
Thank you very much Bob.
Great video thanks
Thank you.
I have a question, can I switch a mixer valve with a single handle valve
Yes, you can always change valve bodies from single handle to multiple handle and vice versa.
@@JustForYouDiy thanks for clarifying that
Weird…Amazon will not ship the o-ring to my area.
🤔
WOW BEST MIXET VID i'VE FOUND. THX. DO YOU HAVE ONE FOR THE PRE 1968?
Thank you for the feedback. My pleasure. Unfortunately, I do not have a video for the pre 1968 valve. I have not run across one yet. However, if someone sends me one, I’ll be happy to make a video for it. That said, I have videos for Delta valve with built-in diverter and many other fun repairs.
@@JustForYouDiy Ok thanks again. By far the most thorough mixet vid I've seen.
Oddly i bought a mixet temperator/flow dial set and it didnt come with the square block for the temp dial like the one you show and the instructions on the back of the box make no mention of it either, so the final reassembly step just wont work until i get a suitable replacement. Very weird how it was missing this part
Thank you for sharing.
If the seals are in good shape, when water is turned to cold, you should not get any hot water, no crossover.
My pleasure. Glad to have helped. And thank you for subscribing.
Slab leaks are not fun, I’ve had my fair share of them. Best of luck.
Slab leak repair without cutting into the slab, use PEX to fix

Thank You
@@paulortez6305 I have the same problem. How did you resove it or which part and model # did you buy ?
@@paulortez6305 you have to buy the identical valve. Don't bang on it.
@@BlahBlah-we6kx I took the stem out and then removed the O-rings, and replaced them. No need to buy a stem if it is OK just replace the O-rings and the seat washer
I get warm water to tub but only cold water to shower 😢
I just replaced my Mixet valve and now I don't get any cold water, just warm and hot.
Most likely the cartridge is installed backwards, hot and cold reversed. Hope this helps.
@@JustForYouDiy - the small notch on the end of the cartridge was smaller than the one on the old valve. i had to clean up the old one and grease it and re-install it. Seems to be working fine... for now.
Happy to hear that you got it working. If you have a bathtub please consider watching another video from me: ruclips.net/video/e19LT9vW1t0/видео.html
Buen video saludos
Thank you.
Pliers don’t work still stuck
Spray white vinegar into the valve hoping to get it in around and behind the cartridge. Then, try it again after an hour. I’ve seen this loosen the hard water deposits and free up the cartridge. Hope this helps.
