    Think about this, clearly he hasn't been groomed before and yet, today he was given THREE baths, TWO shaves, a trimming with scissors, a nail clipping, paw pads shaved, grinch feet trimmed and yet he was a perfect gentleman the entire time, almost 3 hours!!!! He is a hero! And so is Vanessa, for spending the time and effort and patience to get this hero back in beauty shape! Some lucky humans will have this sweet boy as their companion :)

    Now that he has been freed from his painful coat, it's obvious he was neglected in more ways than just grooming. He has almost no muscle mass in his hind quarters. He's so lucky to have been rescued and taken care of. Now on to his forever home for him, and on to another pup in need for Vanessa. Thank you Vanessa, you rock.

    • @peggedyourdad9560
      @peggedyourdad9560 Год назад +209

      I'm gonna guess based on his behavior that he was just neglected and not actively abused, like, someone got him and just didn't care for him or didn't give him any more care than food, water, and maybe taking him outside to do his business. I think this because Cooper isn't acting as scared or flinchy around Vanessa as you'd expect an actively abused animal would. I say actively because neglect is more of a passive form, meaning the previous owner wasn't going out of their way to actively hurt him, but passively ignored his needs. Still doesn't make it any less bad, just different than active abuse.

    • @greenie15

      Physical abuse vs physical neglect

    • @peggedyourdad9560
      @peggedyourdad9560 Год назад +35

      @@greenie15 I would call physical abuse a form of active abuse, I'd consider active abuse to be someone intentionally going out of their way to cause pain and suffering in another being. this could be either physical, mental, emotional, or even financial when it comes to a human inflicting suffering on another person. I mean that it seems like whoever had the dog before didn't go out of their way to purposely inflict harm on it, they just simply ignored it into deterioration until it was discovered and untimely removed from that situation. This can even be done unintentionally by someone who doesn't know any better, which could've been the case. But yeah, I don't think Cooper was beaten or yelled at really, I just think his previous owner either didn't know or didn't care to pay attention to him or give him anything other than the absolute bare minimum he needed to stay alive and (barely) physically healthy. Which is still sad and messed up and I'm glad Cooper now has a home that actually cares for him now.

      We have a rescued Blue-merle Aussiedoodle. She came from an 'accidental' backyard breeding situation. She had not been groomed for 6-8 months, and looked more like a matted filthy Old English Sheepdog than anything. I was startled at how actually slim she is, once the masses of hair & dirt was shaved off of her. The groomer has lots of experience with doodles and advised that standard poodles (& she is 50%) are normally very slim and agile. Their musculature is more like a runner or thoroughbred horse than a weight lifter.

      I think animals are somehow grateful when we take care of them. Some flatmates and me took care of a stray kitty: her mouth was so bad she refused the food, and she even looked feverish. We gave her a children's medicine, and I bet that thing burned like hell over her infection, but she took it all in complete silence. She even "hugged" our hands after the dosis. She is now a healthy gal, living with one of the boys ❤️

    I don't enjoy seeing them come in that way, but I love helping them feel better. I'm so glad this happy boy gets to go to a new home where he will be taken care of! He did great!
    I wish our corporate shop would pay us something to do shelter dogs. We can't do them because of the liability. I think if they truly cared about pets they would make that a thing.
    Even if we did the rescue dogs for the shelter for free, the company should throw in something, it would be a tax write off. Maybe we as groomers can petition our respective companies into doing such work for our local shelters.

      Cause a lotta people buy these overpriced, unethical mutts for vanity reasons and don't invest in proper grooming tools, let alone learn how to use them.
      The vast majority of "doodles" I see in my city are matted. Cause the owners think they need to look fluffy and hate having their fur short, but also don't wanna spend 1-2hrs daily brushing - which is what a long hair poodle mix needs.
      Idk why you'd buy a dog that's half poodle and think it'll just .. magically groom itself tho.
      The way they "brush" is take a basic cheap hair brush and go over the top coat, which tightly mats the hair close to the skin together, invisible to the eye when you're not aware of what mats look like. Then rather than 1x monthly (like you need to with these mixed breed dogs) they only go to a groomer every 6-7 months or so, and surprise - dog is matted and has to be shaved. Then they get angry cause "clearly the groomer just wants money" and instead of learning and doing better, go to the groomer even more rarely.
      Doodles are mostly always bought by inexperienced first time owners who follow the hype - and this is what happens.

      I prefer to think that perhaps someone couldn't brush or afford to keep him trimmed. I have a 14 yr old Jackapoo that dislikes me brushing him, let alone trimming some mats up. He needs to be groomed, but I don't have the 75 dollars to pay to get him groomed. I have been bribing him with some special treats. I can groom him that way. It also helps to give him an herbal/chicken supplement that calms him down nicely. Also, walking him or playing with him first tires him out.
      He has missed 2 grooming appts and needs them. I just can't afford it for a couple more months. 😩 I'm doing my very best. I'm even considering using my trimmers on him. Using that as a last resort. Just remember, be kind. He may have been very loved (he sure is sweet and tolerant) by someone who wasn't able to comb and brush or have him groomed professionally. Monetary hard times are upon so many of us. I do agree that this poor dog needs professional help, and this kind of matting takes a long time to get to this level. 😉 I just think this dog was loved and treated kindly by someone. We do not know the circumstances of the previous owner, or caretaker. I never thought I wouldn't be able to have my dog groomed every 3 months. Things happen. Be kind, please. 💜💚😊
