People do the same thing for the concept of android phones. An even better example of this is Elon musk who still has fanboys despite seemingly trying to prove he’s an idiot. People get capitalism pilled in so many ways. Whether they simp companies, products or billionaires.
what a funny take, apple is a hardware company that makes money selling products and actively promises not to sell your information while being one of the most progressive companies in sustainability. Meanwhile android (google) is a software company and they make money by selling you data and by selling your information and forcing ads on devices you just paid hundreds of dollars for. which they do not even try to hide. Not defending apple they are big evil coperation, but am saying your take is L.

Planned obsolescence is probably one of the grossest things companies started doing with their products, intentionally making things shittily because you'll have to buy another is something that should land the originators of that trend to hell
We need more people like you Charlie who spits out facts it’s still crazy when apple and Microsoft gets away things like ripping off people with broken products
Something I’ll always advocate for is manual things. Manual car windows can’t stop working unless they physically break for instance. Stop making things weaker and electronic only, just because electronics are more convenient doesn’t mean they’re better in every single case.
I've always preferred manual things, but after working in IT for a few years I actively search out more manual/mechanical things. Electronics are just so fragile and difficult to repair in comparison.
my car has ZERO electronics between you and the road, and i feel more confident driving it than my moms 2024 super advanced car. then the car is driving, with my car you are fully and completely in control of everything for better and for worse
You would be surprised at how durable the iPhone 11 is. I’ve had mine since launch, and since I have butterfingers, I tend to drop it a lot, mostly on it’s front side (no screen protector btw) and there isn’t even a scratch on it.
I have a 13 and this thing has taken a few brutal drops onto hardwood and tile floors and has no problems. Don’t know if I’m just insanely lucky, but most of my iphones have been able to be fine after drops with just a basic rubber case
Like I always say, people who buy apple products get what they deserve. As if I can be bothered to care what someone who is just fine with child slaves building their phone has to say about anything.@@CurieBohr
We need more influencers and people in general who think like Charlie. "I'm not going to upgrade because I don't NEED to" this is exactly the kind of mindset we should all have as consumers.
Charlie I really appreciate you promoting Common Sense. I tell my kids pretty much the same things and warn them not to be influenced into buying useless upgrades or becoming sheeple to the latest trends. Of course, I'm the dad so they don't listen to me, but my boys absolutely worship you. Anyway just wanted to say thanks just putting it out there.
Galaxy Ultra 23 is a beast. Battery for days. Giant telephoto lense. Massive heat management. Super Fast charging. Reverse charging for your buds or watch. And the killer Dex mode to replace a desktop for 99% of most uses.
@bravo_10 do you use battery apps? I'd be curious to see the battery temperature when it was running full screen streaming video. The heat chamber was a huge upgrade from the S22 Ultra. My Fold 3 runs about 86f but when charging it goes up to 99f. So I just put a bag of frozen peas under it and it quickly comes down to 86f and allows it to charge at the fastest possible speed while maintaining capacity. I ran my Note 9 for three full years charging this way (or placing it over an air filter fan, Air conditioner outlet, etc.) and still had 85% capacity at the end. I'm still using my N9 as my Dex setup with an 1080 OLED flat display from Inocn I picked up for $190. Meanwhile my Apple stuff is crawling with bugs or can't handle the newest iOS.
"Planned obsolescence" is absolutely a real thing. I remember one of my high school teachers telling us about it all the way back in like 2008. It's simply the idea of a company purposely designing their products to be fragile and have shorter lifespans so you keep buying the "new" one that's only incrementally better than the last one. There's also "perceived obsolescence" which is when a company purposely makes that incrementally better product seem so much flashier and newer than that drabby old one (cough, adding more camera lenses, cough... making up a bunch of pro ultra plus max models, cough)
To be fair, the pro actually has a way better camera than the standard iPhone, as well as better performance. The rest is true. But pro isn’t just some flashy name, it’s legitimately a better product
@@kenthodges9838 well. Still true is it not? iPhone 15 performance wise is worse than 15 pro However, price / performance will vary depending on people.
Unfortunately it's in the interest of the free market to sell you things, and they can't sell you things if the stuff you have is still working. Capitalism baybeee!
Everything should. But hey, the teachings of the scumtrash Bernard London have been resonating to modern era, teaching these 2bit dimers how to scam everyone out of hard earned money. It's done on purpose. 2:13 THANK YOU. I thought I was the only one for so long 😭 I had an LG too before going to iPhone, and also, this vid inspired me to just not get the iPhone 15 because I was contemplating to jump on it but kept thinking how my phone works extremely good and it’s durability and benefits. This thing still look brand new and is even bigger then the iPhone 15 vs the iPhone 11.
After using a second gen SE for 3 years, I got a 14 pro max. The SE was a good phone. Had a bunch of cracks on the upper left hand side but it still worked amazingly. It was just starting to slow down and I wanted to get something with a better camera. This was about 3 months ago when the 15 just came out and I had already heard about overheating issues so that was the initial reason I went with the 14 pro max instead. But seeing how fragile the 15 is I’m extra glad I chose the 14 now. I’ve dropped it a few times by now (granted with a case and one of those privacy screen protectors) and the only time it got any sort of damage is when it ricocheted off my henny bottle and cracked the screen protector, but thankfully I had a free replacement under warranty
I love to imagine half a year ago some depressed caged up Apple worker who was keeping iTunes on iPod alive just for Charlie finally broke free of his shackles.
Fun fact: The biggest new feature on the iPhone 15 is the new standard charging port which they were legally forced to adopt due to the EU legislature that was recently passed. Shame on Apple.

I think one thing that may have helped break the glass is the titanium. I don't know what the properties of titanium but maybe the different elasticity had an effect.
Titanium is a great shock absorber so the chances are the phone either has very little titanium in it or the titanium is far too thin to actually absorb any shock.
My samsung s7 was pretty much invincible. It only stoped working when one day the frame gave out from all drops, and actually indented to the point of breaking the display (the drop pushed the frame into the display). The glass never ever broke on the front or back even though i dropped it hundreds of times without a case on various surfaces around the house.
Charlie immediately earned a respect boost by saying, I don't need any technical updates unless something breaks. We need more people to return to this mindset.
Unfortunately, hackers find security flaws over time. Then exploit them. Technically Apple don’t realise it’s broken until it’s exploited. So yes, by that definition you should get technical updates when they become available.
Definitely agree. Even for android, i try to use my devices for as long as possible, but after 5 years of use I've always found that my biggest issue is always with the battery. Going from an 8 to 10 hour battery to 3 to 4 hours is too noticeable to accept. And then even after replacing the batter I always have some software issue or glitches. I don't get why people do get new phones every year, transferring information and all that is always such a pain
try turning off data and location when you don't need it, with my j7 i've had it on for almost 12 hours now and it's at 78%, i only turn on my data when i need to text someone but even then i can just connect to wifi
@@zombiekiller4yo495the brightness too, one can argue this is like agressive min-maxing but why'd you need max brightness indoors all the time though you're not an old man point is your phone will last longer if you take care of it. I still use a OnePlus 6t as my work phone , battery lasts me all day and there is no glitches ... so maybe actually do some research when you shop for a phone and you will have better luck , that's advice you should do with literally everything in life.🤦♂️🤣
Just this year i finally upgraded to a new phone bc the last one i had for 8 years was so outdated and the battery was so worn out, i couldn't install any new apps and my storage was borked due to memory issues But not a single scratch was on that thing for the whole near-decade i had it. It was well cared for and quite sturdy for all that i put it thru, having it on my person every single day of those 8 years. It died of natural causes: old age. Goes to show no matter how well you engineer something or how tough it is, nothing can withstand against time itself
To be clear this is only the pro max because of the mix of a larger glass cover (less support) and the rigid titanium. Aluminum and stainless steel will flex a bit with the glass when slightly bent (like when sitting on it. Not enough to bend it permanently but there is some strain and flex. With the pro max the glass flexes into the rigid titanium and cracks.
That apple battery thing was crazy. I worked at an apple certified repair shop at the time and we literally had massive half way up the wall stacks of replacement batteries because Apple had a deal for them as part of the whole situation.
I’m with you Charlie, my old iPhone 4s has been used as a music player/podcast machine since they stopped doing updates on it and I was forced to upgrade. It’s nothing to do with money I just think we should really drive tech into the ground before throwing it away for recycling otherwise we’re just making more needless tech waste. Unlike your iPod touch I found a couple morphie power bank cases with a built in hard drive being sold for practically nothing because it’s for old tech they are just drag and drop allowing me to completely cut out iTunes.
Earlier this year I had to upgrade my old phone because it started getting super hot when it was on for any amount of time and the battery lasted like three hours. It was an amusing experience because it was a Blackberry Priv, and everyone at the store just could not stop staring at it because they'd never seen anyone who had one of those before. I originally got it because of the sliding keyboard, which I prefered over onscreen keyboards, and that was it. It was a good phone, I miss it dearly. I especially miss how it didn't slide off of even the slightest uneven surface, unlike my Google Pixel. I swear it secretly excretes oil when I'm not looking at it because some place i've put it down on it should not have been able to slide and fall from...thankfully, it's pretty hardy, because I don't intend on upgrading it until it too is completely unusable.
Upgrading your phone is probably the most disappointing purchase ever. The excitement fades within an hour once you realize it's the same as your previous phone with more bells and whistles you'll never use.
Honestly, I respect you for using technology to it's fullest and not falling victim to the consumer culture that we unfortunately live in today. Just because you can afford something doesn't mean you should buy it.
I still haven’t upgraded from the iPhone 11. The way I see it, there’s no point to updating technology unless there’s you know…some kind of technological innovation. Every year, it’s “it’s slightly faster and the camera is slightly better”. It just doesn’t do it for me. I went from the 5S to 11 because of Face ID. It’s an innovation I loved. Just waiting for the next thing I can love
What's worse is that they built 3 components in to the back glass and if you try to replace them yourself, apple has a software block that does not allow them to work anymore so you have to get it fixed through Apple.
i think thats the old one because the repair videos show that now its just one piece of glass. even apple announced that and you can repair it with like $10 glass
I saw some post of someone saying they dropped their iPhone and now they can't use it because that same software thinks a component was replaced by a 3rd party.
I remember “bend gate” being a huge controversy with the Iphone 6 or something. It took so much more force to bend that phone compared to this. I miss my indestructible Iphone 4
At that time other phone makers also competed each other to made a phone as thin as possible, before finally turned back to standard 7-8mm thickness after those bend gate issues
I was a pretty early adopter of Android phones. Some of the first HTCs and Samsungs did suck and were really fragile. I moved to the pixel when it first came out and have been pleasantly surprised despite being a Google product.
A channel called "Some More News" literally did a story on this. There was one company that made really high quality pressure cookers that were designed to last and because of that they put themselves out of business. Companies make products with the intention of making them obsolete for one reason or another. One of the examples this channel covered was how light bulb manufacturers colluded to fix the number of hours a light would work for and reduced it from 1,200 to 1,000 and had sales go up.
I know their more to that story Because If you made a pressure cookers that is better then your competition. All the high tier chiefs will buy that product over the others.
6:49 I too have an iPhone 11 and 100% agree with Charlie. My phone has become a lot glitchier in the past couple of months and that the battery drains much quicker now. This has happed every single year around the time the new iPhone comes out, then after a few months it *magically* fixes itself. If Apple wanted to be environmentally oriented, they wouldn't use planned obsolescence but I guess then no one would buy new phones and we would keep ours for a lot longer like Charlie's magnificent iPod.
Check your battery health. This sounds like you need a new battery. All lithium batteries drain over time. The 11 is at the point in its life that most who haven’t had their batteries replaced yet, need to.
i also have an iphone 11 and we only are upgrading because our plan was paid off and we only have 64 gigs which isnt enough space for anything coming our, so we decided to upgrade to the 15 pro. im not to worried as we are immediately getting cases and screen protectors. battery health is at about 80% now so also is good time. no broken backs nor screens yet on my 11 so if we had no reason to upgrade, we would have the 11. The 15 pro will work just fine. the pro max is much bigger so its more susceptible to damage.
I remember when the 10’s came out. My iPhone 5s shit the bed and got stuck in infinite reset loop. So I got a brand new iPhone 10. Some time after getting the new phone. I noticed my 5s received and update. It was running again. It’s 2023. I broke my 10 in January. I had a promotion so jumped up to a 14. But in between phones. That 5s that mysteriously wouldn’t work some years ago… still worked. Charged. And was fine.
I’m similar because I never update anything if it works. My iPhone is at 13.5.1 and I refuse to update to version 17 or whatever. The lawsuit against them for slowing down older models with newer updates only justified my actions.
As an Apple "hater" I gotta say, hearing that you stuck to the iPod Touch for so long brings me joy. Those were fantastic devices and I wish phones and other devices were that good.
A few years back I snapped an iPhone 6 in half fairly effortlessly. Just hold it by both ends with the backside to your palms, and bend it towards you. When I did it, I had the screen against my hand and got a chunk of glass lodged in my hand so don’t do that. they haven’t really changed in any way in the later models. The phone in the video that survived the bend test is genuinely impressive because it is not hard to do to any phone at all.
I totally agree. I don't get a new phone unless it breaks. I'm still using a Galaxy S10 and it still works just as good as the day I got it, I haven't even noticed a loss in battery capacity. I only stick with Samsung because a while ago I bought a Samsung surround sound system that was heavily discounted because it was a display and missing a lot of parts. I sent an email to Samsung asking where I can purchase replacement parts. Within 2 days they replied asking for my address. They sent me every part that I needed for free, plus they through in a 128g SDcard. This was over $150 in parts, I didn't even have to pay shipping. Thats how companies keep customers for life.
I'm still using my S10 too. Extra SD slot, head phone jack, excellent battery and survived multiple drops. Not looking forward to changing to the newer models.
@propop1 my only issue with the newer models is the lack of a headphone jack. I finally replaced my S20+ after the screen that I cracked 2 years ago started losing pixels and touch response last month, but besides that it still ran so smooth. If you like your S10 then you'll like the newer models too. I've had the S3, S5, S7, S10+, S20+, and now the S23.
@@propop1 Right! The expandable memory is awesome, btw Samsung says the S10 can use up to a 512GB micro SDcard however your S10 can actually support a 1TB Micro SDcard. The 1TB is whats in my S10 right now and works great. And not having the freedom to use expandable storage on the new S23 is the reason why I won't ever "upgrade" to the S23, and also I absolutely love the Prism Blue color of my S10 and meanwhile Prism Blue isn't available on the S23, only a very muted Sky Blue. Damm, now you got me looking for spare S10. And I'm guessing a lot of other people also like the S10 because for a new unopened S10 the price is a little ridiculous ($500+) for a phone released 4 years ago. Anyway nice to meet and talk to another super awesome intelligent person... but for real stay safe out there.
@@mastod0n1 I heard others say the S20 is great as well. So maybe I might get the S20 if my S10 breaks. Since the S20 has expandable memory(micro SDcard) and the S23 doesn't. For some idiotic reason Samsung got rid of that feature. Which is really dumb since expandable memory was one of the main reasons people went with Samsung over Apple. Hopefully Samsung brings it back.
The Samsung line has some good products, even on their side brands. I've got a Galaxy A20 that I've had for well over 5 years and it still works fine. I cracked the screen recently, but that was my own fault. I didn't crack it for 5 years, even after dropping it more times than I'm willing to admit. Plus I got this phone cheap for the life time it's had.
My Z Flip 5 is pretty awesome. Durable, and kinda feels like a Gameboy Advance SP with the chunky case I put it in. Getting it for free was the best part.
It's still shocking to me that after bending a phone with your bare hands and crumbling to pieces, people will still continue to defend the company that will make your older phones slower so you buy their newest model that you will never actually need.
It's utterly mind-boggling, it's a masterclass in marketing. People get so sucked up in the way the products make them feel that they're willing to stick by and vehemently defend Apple despite repetitively getting screwed over and over. And the sad part is that it'll never change.
I have an iPhone 4 that survived a car crash, literally bent in a 20° angle and despite the screen being nearly dust it still works perfectly to this day. I miss using that phone, it had a large capacity chinese battery in it too lasted almost two days. How the mighty have fallen.
The reason why old blackberry phones never broke when you dropped them is actually really interesting. The phone was designed to eject the battery if it was ever dropped, so most of the kinetic energy is ejected through the significantly more massive battery, leaving the relatively lightweight phone with minimal energy to actually get damaged by.
Thats not how physics of that works. Overall Mass of the object falling will still experience the full force of the object since the battery will only eject after the impact. The gravitational potential energy of the phone falling and hitting the ground is still transferred to the phone in it’s entirety.
@@robster7787except that is how it works. Energy can't be created, so if you transfer a lot of the energy of the fall into ejecting the heaviest part of the phone then there's less energy going into the other components of the phone. It's high school grade physics. The battery doesn't just launch itself, it uses some of the energy of the impact to do so.
My Nokia disassembled after a fall and survived many falls without a scratch, so there may be some truth to this. Apple is a closed system. Users will buy another if it breaks so Apple make sure it will break.
It's being sensible. The truly rich don't spend their money on a new phone or car every year. They save their money and use what they have. You don't get rich by spending money.
I miss my ipod mini with the scroll wheel, it was be best interface to control while working out at the gym. You can go straight to the song or playlist you want, and not have to fiddle with a finicky touch screen.
Oh man, same thing happened to me. Also i just use separate devices for reading, music and a simple phone to just make calls without anything else in it.
I had a IPhone 6s, thing was the best phone I have ever had. It had a headphone jack (unlike my current 11) and it was apparently the most repairable iPhone ever made. I beat that 6s hard and it just kept working. Meanwhile I set my 11 down on a rock and it lightly slid and got 4 scratches on the bezel, with a case on.
I 100% agree about using older products. I was using my ipod shuffle for MANY years until recently, which I stopped for the same reasons. Stuff from back then really last longer, and I loved the convenience of attaching my ipod shuffle to my shirt and boom, ready to go. It's the best
Totally agree, Due to my work I HAVE to use a smartphone but that said for my personal use to communicate with people ... I still have my nokia 3210 , I just change the battery when it no longer lasts like 6 days with 1 charge
I remember when phones were using durability and water resistance as marketing points but they’ve dropped it and expected that nobody cared about those features so they stopped making innovations in that department
Hi Charlie. The planned obsolescence is not just with phones. I am an appliance sales man, and it’s the same there. All these companies make them so cheap they usually won’t last over 3-5 years. It’s sad and such a waste.
Yep. I have a 20 yr old direct-drive Whirlpool washing machine. A very honest salesman convinced me to spend the $300 in parts that I needed to fix it rather than buy a new washing machine. I was ready to just throw my old washing machine out, I had no idea what I had
@@baylietrout7888 Auto manufacturers literally invented planned obsolesce. All the American auto companies did it until they had to start competing with Japan in the 60s

About 10 years ago, I was working in a oil change shop when a lady came in for a oil change, she walked into the waiting room and sat on the couch all excited with her brand new iPhone still in the box. I was in there talking to another customer, I left and came back in a few minutes later and the lady with her new phone stood up with the phone on her lap and forgot it was there, the phone fell from her lap and landed on the throw down rug and the screen broke. As an owner of a 2007 iPod touch and still use it, this is pretty relatable for it surviving this long. Mine has survived a 30 foot drop without a case and severe water damage and it still works. I have an iPhone 12 as well but I still use my iPod at times.

My iPod Touch from 2010 fell from waist height and was fucking SHATTERED the whole front glass. I remember going to the Apple Store ready to pay $150 to have the display replaced. Thankfully the guy working at the Genius Bar was sympathetic to my issue and comped the replacement fully. To say thank you I bought a case for it before I left. Apple products have always been fragile. If you care about it, put a case on it. I think they were reasonable solid for a few years from the the X to the 14 Pro when they used stainless steel frames, but I would never go naked with $1000 device that goes in my pocket.
The reason the back glass is weaker is because a metal frame used to be adhered to it. It's now part of the body making the glass a separate piece that's easier to replace, while making it weaker at the same time. But if you wanna replace screens, cameras, even microphones you'll run into issues because they've serialized all the parts. You will lose tons of functionality replacing parts DIY because of this. Face ID, battery health, etc. etc. will lose functionality unless you get the serial #'s to match which basically only Apple and repair shops granted access to the tools by Apple can do
So sad that new phones snap so easily. My oneplus 7t just now shattered its backglass after like, 5 or 6 years and like almost 100 drops and even now it's just minimaly damaged. This is so sad.
I have an 11 and it works great. I’ve broken it twice within the past 1-2 years; once half my screen cracked and the second time the entire front came off,and it works great. I personally don’t like the newer iPhones because the screen is too big and I don’t like the squareness of them. I’m sure mine will stop working eventually, but until then, I’ll stick with the 11.
My first electronic device was a Samsung GalaxyTab E, super cheap even when it was new. It's been through nearly 8 years of constant use now, I dropped it out of my bedroom window in protest once and it still looks brand new to this day, not even a scratch. In fact I'm watching this video on it right now. Android forever.
My android slipped out of my hand the day after I got it and the entire thing shattered all around. My iphones after almost a decade have small hairline cracks at most.
My last 2 phones over the span of 8yrs were 2 Samsungs as well, sometimes I even accidentally dropped those from up to my height down and they still remain good as new
Though it is worth mentioning that in every one of these tests its solely the TITANIUM iphone pro. Not the regular 15. Aluminium has much more give than titanium which doesnt cushion impacts or bends at all. Effectively if you drop a 15 pro its just glass sandwiched in something much harder than glass. Where as aluminium and even steel are softer.
It’s called “planned obsolescence” the first lightbulb is still on and going, As a gardener I spent triple to get boron steel gardening tools that will last 1-2 lifetimes instead of 1/3 the money buy only last a couple of month.
France outlawed artificially lowering performance, so if you set your region to France (doesn’t affect language, App Store, or anything really), it should work noticeably better. I had different apps frequently crash before I did this with my iPhone 11 and a year later, I rarely ever have app crashes

Oh my god, same, I was using my old Ipod touch, for my primary use for music and watching youtube. But had to buy a phone, since I also never had a touch screen phone before that, about a year back as alas my Ipod just straight up broke one day. Just seems to refuse to start, getting stuck on the apple logo.
I skip iPhone generations a lot. I’ve had a 4S,6S, X, and now 13. I just take care of them, and they’re 99% the same as the last model. Going from the 6S to the X felt amazing, after 5-6 years. It was insane having Face ID, no fingerprint, bigger, better cameras. You don’t notice these things when jumping from model to model. Also, just always use a case of some sort. I use a 360 case so that I don’t have to deal with the screen protector shit, but honestly, a good case can just have rubber bumpers to absorb shock. It should be standard that something you should carry with you is durable, but unfortunately it’s not right now. Also, get a normal 13 if you’re wanting the feel of an older iPhone…it has the same shape, and somehow that actually makes it feel better than it is.
I took the same iPhone path as you but XS and 12pro. Only moved from the XS cause my job wanted to get me a phone and I didn’t want 2 phones. Mf’s will fill their phone with sand at the beach and then go home and take it in their sauna of a bathroom and then question why the speakers are quiet and the battery sucks
I have the 11PM right now and the only reason that I’m upgrading is because of the usb-c. If that wasn’t happening I’d probably keep this phone for another few years.
Had a samsung note ultra for 3 years now and the only thing that broke was the auto focus. I drop it everyday in a mous case... iphones just kept breaking for me even in a case.
If you watch JerryRig's videos on it, you'll soon realize how much he has been misinterpreted. He actually says the 15 is quite durable, screen wise it is more so than previous models, and it is cheaper to replace. But people keep grasping on to his video of him cracking the max version, because it's good clickbait, even though it ironically doesn't even represent his takes lmao. The max backside has the weaker durability, but every other model does not have this issue (he does the same test in the video with a pro non max, immediately after the max version)
@@blazex224people are dumb, you know this. It’s actually kind sad, but I’m glad I came across your comment as you seem to know what you are talking about. Same thing with people complaining that the non pro models don’t have usb 3 and think the phone will charge slower because of it lol
My 14 pro max handled my abuse really well. The design allowed the back to take all the shock so my front screen is just so much better. I have never understood how people think iPhone products are bad(not talking about the new one) because I moved to iphone because of how low quality androids were. My chargers don’t fall apart. My phone batteries last. The screens handle damage more. The only downside with my current phone is that the speakers didn’t hold up my extreme use of it, but that’s more about how often I use my phone like a tv. 😂
I'm still using an iphone 7 plus and it has survived from when it first came out to today. I've dropped it down the stairs, on gravel and i drop it on my floor at least once a day. Only scratches and it still works perfectly. Only thing i ever had to do was change screen protectors cuz i break them ;)
i try to keep my devices as long as possible - had my iphone 6 forever, got a hand me down x that crashed and upgraded to an 11. im keeping this thing for as long as possible. my friend upgrades her phones pretty consistently and has handfuls of problems with them. i refuse to let my laptop die, its a 2015 air - battery life is atrocious but this thing is getting me through university whether it wants to or not lol
Same situation, an Iphone 11 that has the battery life of a koala on a tree and an air 2015 that can stay open without a charger for max 2 hours but as long as they light up when u charge them I’m keeping them.
I had my mind set that the new titanium models would be more protective and for the non-titanium ones, they would have a consistent if not improved durability compared to the previous models, but it's shocking to see how the new ones are so fragile. I wouldn't be surprised if these phones suffered the bendgate issue in jeans like the iPhone 6.
Titanium is lighter but it's not a guarantee for durability when you're trying for a sleak and thin design. It's also a bend test and not an impact test so it might just mean they didn't consider that when deciding on an alloy.
I remember "bendgate." However, that was one of the phones people would not get rid of. People kept the 6 until Apple stopped supporting it, and they could not use it productively. All the people "testing" the phones should be taken with a grain of salt. Unless it is an actual tech influences like Mr. Whosedaboss.
@@Rumplegirlskin Agreed. Even after I upgraded 6 years later I still keep and use the 6 basically as an ipod touch now. And it looks brand new despite never having a screen protector, just a case. So bendgate really was blown out of proportion.
Of all the iPhone 15 models, only the Pro Max failed. The best theory I've heard is that previous iPhones had a metal sheet underneath the back glass reinforcing it, while the 15 Pro Max attached that to the phone chassis instead and put a cutout in the middle of it for the wireless charging coil, reducing that reinforcing effect on the back glass. Ironically this was done in part to make replacing the back glass easier. As for why it doesn't affect the 15 and 15 Plus, that's probably because they don't have that cutout in the metal sheet; and for the 15 Pro, probably because there's less surface area to apply a bending force to. Oh, and it's also worth noting that the titanium is only for the outer edges of the frame - the inside of the chassis is still aluminum. JerryRigEverything talks about this, mentioning that Grade 5 titanium would've been obscenely expensive to use for the entire phone.
The new iPhone isn’t fragile though… The video that Charlie first showed was an iPhone that was blasted with over 3000° of heat which literally compromised the structural integrity of the tempered glass on the back. Any tempered glass that you blast with a lot of heat within an interval of less than three seconds, will naturally become brittle.
Actually, Apple was sued because they’d done so without disclosing it to customers. It was said to be intended to optimize the life of older batteries, but in doing so, users saw a dramatic decline in performance. This is now offered as an option in settings that can be shut off. Marques Brownlee did a short video on this topic.
In Settings, scroll to Battery, tap on “Battery Health” this will then show you the real capacity of the phone when you charge. Although Apple will only give you the option to degrade performance when it hits 85% or below.
The whole company of Apple has to be some sort of social experiment because the lengths people go to defend such a soulless company is insane
People do the same thing for the concept of android phones. An even better example of this is Elon musk who still has fanboys despite seemingly trying to prove he’s an idiot. People get capitalism pilled in so many ways. Whether they simp companies, products or billionaires.

Dude +1 on the battery, on my power saving thing lasts an entire day listening to RUclips and music all day
@bravo_10 do you use battery apps?

I used my phone till it died lol. That’s when I finally upgraded. I don’t see the need to upgrade every year, such a waste of money
I thought it was just me, I didn’t see no reason to upgrade unless it was necessary. Unless I was rich, fuck it I would’ve bought a nice car or house
I don't even know why there is any other way at all (other than people having the money - and I don't, tbh).
Charlie grabbing his iPhone and then realizing that trying to break it prooooolly isn’t a great idea. Classic 😂

But not a single scratch was on that thing for the whole near-decade i had it.

Charged. And was fine.
you probably shouldnt update your IOS when they release a new phone. the only way for them to make your phone slower is through IOS
@@ldtech5999I swear people walk around with a 5 year old battery and wonder why their phone doesn’t last long lmao.. idiots
I’m similar because I never update anything if it works. My iPhone is at 13.5.1 and I refuse to update to version 17 or whatever. The lawsuit against them for slowing down older models with newer updates only justified my actions.

Zack from JerryRigEverything is pretty damn strong. Just something to note with regards to his bend tests.

The reason why old blackberry phones never broke when you dropped them is actually really interesting. The phone was designed to eject the battery if it was ever dropped, so most of the kinetic energy is ejected through the significantly more massive battery, leaving the relatively lightweight phone with minimal energy to actually get damaged by.
ah yes bassberry
Thats not how physics of that works.
Overall Mass of the object falling will still experience the full force of the object since the battery will only eject after the impact. The gravitational potential energy of the phone falling and hitting the ground is still transferred to the phone in it’s entirety.
??? this is terribly explained psuedo science lol

You will lose tons of functionality replacing parts DIY because of this. i try to keep my devices as long as possible - had my iphone 6 forever, got a hand me down x that crashed and upgraded to an 11. im keeping this thing for as long as possible. my friend upgrades her phones pretty consistently and has handfuls of problems with them. i refuse to let my laptop die, its a 2015 air - battery life is atrocious but this thing is getting me through university whether it wants to or not lol
What option is it in settings ?
What setting are you referring too ?
could you link that please?
?
In Settings, scroll to Battery, tap on “Battery Health” this will then show you the real capacity of the phone when you charge. Although Apple will only give you the option to degrade performance when it hits 85% or below.
