I feel so bad for the "love surge" lady. The absolutely insane things that people will say to actual people over the internet is truly unbelievable. She definitely wasn't ready for all that, she's too wholesome.
I think she needs to do a lot of work on herself if comments from stangers on the internet can bring her to tears. Like I get it, the comments can be annoying and shocking, but those are people who have no idea who she is, she will never meet them; 99% of them are lonely, depressed, and probably one negative life experience away from taking themselves out. She expects everyone to love/accept everything she does, but thats just not how the world (especially the internet) works.
Charlie's true voice shined through at the last 30 seconds of the video. His voice is so powerful and true that it echoes in even the most decorated rooms
I love how the audio changes to make it feel like I'm in an empty auditorium. This was Charlie's TED talk about cringe and the was a perfect way to end the video.
@@AnthonysMeat Two simultaneous waveforms will cancel each other out or create a chorus if offset. This is clearly a reverb or delay effect. Its good practice to put a little reverb on any voice recording.. but here the mix has been cranked.
I hate how normalised it is that wishing someone to kill themselves or even to be raped is. It’s absolutely disgusting and I wish all anonymous accounts would show the user’s name and face after they make such vile comments.
@@matthewjones39 except whenever someone says they’ve been getting threats online people say that they’re being too sensitive and that threats are just something that they need to get used to receiving online because “welcome to the internet”. You’re kidding yourself if you really don’t think it’s been normalized.
Regarding the second woman, I'll say that social media just hates happy relationships in general. A couple can post something as innocuous as watching a movie together and they'll still receive a wave of extreme hate Some people are just so lonely and terminally online that the slightest sign of enjoying life is the greatest sin possible in their eyes
That's what I thought as well; a lot of people on the Internet simply cannot stand anything that is the opposite of pure hate, so they get disgusted and offended by technically wholesome videos.
Pretty much this, disgust with happiness. And if it’s a little too embarrassing or vulnerable, they get their chance to jump on it and tear it down for dopamine.
No, it's that normal well adjusted people don't understand the incessant need to share your life with the rest of the world. It's pretentious and it seems so disingenuous. Why are you desperately seeking validation from strangers on the internet
"I am cringe but I am free" is such a true statement. If I stumble across a cringey video, I just skip it and move on w my day. It's the people that leave hate comments / death threats who are the problem. Of course if you post anything on the internet you are subjected to backlash but nobody deserves that much hate for a silly video imo.
Nah if you wanna post stuff like that for clout be prepared for the shitty reactions you are gonna get. It just is what it is. I'm hoping that eventually if the backlash is big enough people will stop acting like goofy fucks. I don't go outside because of people that do cringey shit.
It's been theorised that we evolved to find embarrassment so unbearable because in the past, being ostracised by your tribe was literally a death sentence. Cringe is second-hand embarrassment, so we simultaneously feel both the pain of imagining being them, and also the desire to publicly reject them, so as to make it clear we are not in their group and do not condone their behaviour.
@@curious_O_oNo, his theory is way better than yours because it was actually cringe of you to use privilege in this context. Now you shall be exiled from the tribe. Take your cringe to mother nature.
Humans in general are Spiteful to "the weak" just look at american schools. If society had less boundaries, it would be just like school. Bullies picking on nerds, the freak of the class being sent to the corner, teachers being willingly ignorant to the runt of the class being the most picked on, the youth getting assaulted by the edlest ect.
Just assume the internet is a conglomerate of all your toxic exes, toxic mother in laws, toxic father in laws, and toxic bosses and any other toxic person you ran into. Don't ever show vulnerability to them. Keep your love surge in a safe zone.
That's actually a very accurate way of depicting the internet. The majority people are not "good" and have many toxic traits. Being online demonstrates that perfectly.
The funny thing is that Charlie really has a point. Like Colleen got a lot of hate for being a pedo but I really feel like no one would’ve paid attention to her if she didn’t make the cringey apology video.
I play these videos as background noise to help me fall asleep, but Charlie saying that subjecting people to cringe could be considered an act of terrorism made me laugh myself awake
I feel like uncontrollable disgust is an involuntary and valid reaction to cringe. But you know what is super cringe ? Being the person who threatened the love surge lady.
Bro, you got so analytical on cringe I HAD TO look this up lol! "The feeling of cringe is a personal, empathetic embodiment of embarrassment that someone else is experiencing - but it's rooted in bodily survival instinct. “Cringing is essentially a mechanism to deter us from behaving in ways that risk us losing status or gaining the negative judgement of others,”
the herd mentality of the internet is disgusting, insulting a woman for crying because people wished sexual assault on her over an innocent video?? Stepping away from (most) social media was the best thing I've ever done with my life.
thats what she should have done after the initial video but instead of learning that valuable lesson, she recorded another video of herself and put it on social media.
@@Mellyburr yeah it's terrible. she defo is like some small time creator and thought her tiny viewer base would agree with her and share the same sentiment. definitely never expected the video to blow up this much and then the threats... seeing her cry made me tear up. she's just sharing her love even if it's cringey, no one deserves to be bullied into tears like that 😢
When photography first became popular it was considered really cringe to smile in pictures because people thought it made you look silly. People’s avoidance of cringe goes back way before the internet
I think she managed the first video badly, but it was not her fault entirely since she didn't think that video was something they needed to rehearse. The main problem seems to be her reaction after the surge, the little tap on his arm, the scratching on his head, the locked on eyes on the camera seemed almost like she didn't mean it and was looking for people to viralize her video. I know is a very simplistic way to put it, but I think that't what happened there, that's the cringe, if she managed to make it look a little bit more natural people would've been more supportive. I think the worst thing you can do by going on the internet is trying to go popular by chance, luck or intentionally but without a plan, people is going to put you down if you don't take care of your content. Even the most ludacris youtubers that created goofy characters as their internet persona have some sort of plan. Think about Fred, Goji or Lele Pons, their content was not the most brilliant but it felt like they were going somewhere with it.
I’m usually a menace but even I wouldn’t say all that stuff to her like bro…like bro the worst part is the comments here (some) say she’s playing the victim ..BRO SHE IS THE VICTIM WDYM
I'm all for laughing at and making fun of cringe, but personal threats and wishes of violence on someone just cause they're a little annoying is absolutely insane.
or even trying to be happy in their lives and posting videos to share with others to show how happy they are and little cutesy things that they do. the people complaining and calling it cringe have no love and excitement in their lives.
kinda wild how anytime a woman even mildly annoys people online with something like giving a spouse a cringe hug the response is literally always people wanting to "SA" her.
The "love surge" thing actually made me mad. It may have been a bit cringy, but at the end of the day, it was just a couple having a moment. Unlike the "hangryness" woman, who used the shot of the woman behind her to get even more views, and exposed her to lots of hate, as if she was some sort of tool.
People are not responsible to internet. Whether it's cringe for likes or the horrible comments, social media was no doubt the worst thing to ever be invented. The only thing it did to bring us together was to collectively hate each other. That and it seems like all the worst people that are internet famous can say or do horrible things and nothing happens. They keep their platforms, they continue to be successful and no responsibility was taken. Social media is so toxic and I do not blame people for taking breaks and staying off of it completely
the thin line between cringe and cool is sincerity. if a different video of someone genuinely becoming happy for pancakes may go viral because its so natural and sincere. when someone creates a fake scenario and acts excited it becomes so cringe. (for the record i thought both were weird and a little cringe because they seems disingenuous) take for example that skating guy with the cranberry juice. it went viral cuz it was just so sincere and relatable and not trying too hard, if at all. hell its why charlies content is so good.
Its the creating a weird and unnecessary scene in public that people hate. Same thing goes for these kids doing dancing videos in retail stores and acting like its their god given right
i think anime kinda proves this point, the scared character saying they aren't gonna lose is cringe, but the fully focused, intense stare character saying the same thing is really cool
it's only the feeling of being more favorable in other people's eyes than the target of ridicule that gives us the confidence to make fun of their actions
I think not distancing from cringe increases fear of being ostracized, while fighting against being (second hand) ostracized feels good cause you can poject everything that gives you irrational fear onto the actual topic and "stand up for yourself" without having to actually stand yp fr youself
6:00 I honestly feel really bad for her since she was self aware of the cringe and didn’t mind the light hearted jokes. None of these miserable people would say stuff like that in person
That's pretty much how I go about being online, if I wouldn't say it to someone's face I'm not typing it. Being mean online is more cringy than doing a love surge, and that's saying something
The most tiktok thing about all this is that when she was crying because people made her feel bad for something completely harmelss, they just doubled down on it and kept insulting her.
Imagine being so unbelievably touch-starved and pathetic that you'll send _death threats_ to random strangers online because they're expressing their love for their partner....
Agree I think a lot of it especially with that video. Is that while it is cringy, it makes people who are bitter about love angry. Because they themselves are very lonely. So it’s not so much the cringe but jealousy.
Exactly! I thought it was sweet. Let people do wtf they want to do. Being cringy, embarrassing, and doing stupid shit is a part of being human. For every cringy thing you do, billions of other people have done the exact thing so LET IT GO. live your life. Embrace the cringe.
They (the haters) shouldn’t have done that but I’ve been in a relationship with a childish guy like that and it’s exhausting bc they expect you to match them. She’s going to get tired of it so fast. Mine used to crow out the window like a rooster and yell to strangers that he was the luckiest guy and I’m just like wtf I’m a potato chill. I knew I wasn’t worth that he was just overacting. It’s cringe.
It's not just the cringe itself that riles people up, but a twisted kind of herd mentality. People love to hate on the same thing, because it gives them a sense of community, while also giving them an outlet for their negative emotions without having to fear any individual consequences.
Idk sometimes when I see (in person) people doing "cringey" dances for internet clout, it makes me upset not out of herd mentality but out of the exact opposite, I don't want to associate myself with things I don't understand lol
As a teacher I can confirm that cringe is a weapon. I don't have to do discipline when I can just use cringe instead. I guarantee you that after a small exposure to unexpected cringe no one will be distracted again until the end of the lesson
This is sad but unsurprising. In the old days we committed cringe but it was forgotten in five seconds. Nowadays one gaff will have you branded a pariah forever. Stay safe out there people
The "love surge" couple gave me a flashback to when I was like 15 and wrote my bf at the time a happy 1 year anniversary comment on fb and it was pretty cringe and super like "IDC WHAT THEY SAY OUR LOVE WILL LAST FOREVER" kinda deal. And I got home from school and a bunch of family was visiting and I could hear them all laughing in the living room as my older, cooler cousin was reading my comment out loud to the entire family and making jokes and laughing at me. I don't think I ever posted on fb again after that and was really really upset, but I can't even imagine what it would feel like if it was the entire internet making fun of me instead of just my entire extended family.
F*CK em. I wish folks had tougher skin, it's not a disparagement I hope you understand that, but if folks were tougher they could ignore the absolute idiocy of other people. Be harder inside and ready to do things that need done.
@@slimely9758 It's just really sad that this happens so often that I'm not as shocked as I should be that this happened. It's appalling but definitely not surprising unfortunately.
Honestly i think the cringieat part of all of it is people's visceral reaction to cringe. Idk maybe I'm just happy people are willing to show me upfront that we wouldn't be a good match for a friendship.
I believe the girl dancing in public about food is cringe. But sending sa threats and death threats for two people in love isn’t okay. It’s disgusting.

To be honest, I was thinking myself "Oh my gosh, SO DAMN CRINGE" while feeling literal disgust at the start of the video, but the moment I saw her crying my damn heart broke. If she is not bothering anyone, we should learn to just accept that we are all cringey at some moment and no one deserves an emotional beating like this for literally nothing.
She made Millions of people uncomfortable for a couple of seconds and those millions of people made her uncomfortable for a couple of seconds as well, It was a fair trade.
I was forced to watch it and trust me bucko it was much longer than a few seconds. Time slows down in tragic moments like that but you have to have a very high intellect to understand.
Dude why she crying over sum hateful internet comments, then making a video about it and then even uploading it ☠☠☠ Its pathetic and idiotic as hell. If it really bothered that woman so much she couldve just deleted the video and moved on, or deleted the account to avoid the oh so harmful internet comments And besides, its her fault anyway. Too dumb to think of the possible consequences of uploading something like this and uses tiktok. That aside the people posting hateful comments that exceed simple clowning goes too far and doesnt make em any better than the person posting the cringe. @@deadlyrobot5179 They didn't make her uncomfortable though they made her cry they obviously took the video too seriously based on the kind of comments she got so its not the same at all and you are insane if you think so.
Saying being cringe is unforgivable is like victim blaming. The people overreacting and being mean to the people who do cringy things are the problem and deserve to experience all the pain that they have caused others.
Some people are just so miserable that they can't understand how to be happy/confident and let other people be that as well. They need to take it out on others because they have no way to improve their own life. It's sad really.
I hate that we as a society let abusers and terrible people of all sorts flourish without a second thought then tell people who got a little silly to kts💀
It really should be the other way around. Though I don’t condone harassment and individuals who have done horrible things should be processed properly, promptly, and professionally to be punished under the law, I wouldn’t shed a tear or lose a single wink of sleep if a large amount of people bullied murderer or pedophile until they lost their mind.
Fr I also don’t condone harassment but out of all the cringe tik toks why did they go after the kinda wholesome ones instead of some extreme anime cringe(should prob add nothing wrong with anime but it is very well known for its cringe)
I submitted to the cringe and accepted it was going to be inevitable before you posted the second video (I appreciate the warm up w/ the first) but I actually thought it was super cute and noticed a slight feeling of jelousy. I think there are a lot of people who have never been really loved and it makes them angry to see other people experiencing it.
You got it! People these days are really bitter and jealous and despise seeing happy people and especially happy couples doing their thing and loving each other. The fact that even after becoming vulnerable and sharing her pain online these same bitter and jealous people have to show their asses by being cruel to her all over again. It's truly pathetic and sad. 😔
I think cringe can be pretty much described as “doing things in public (or online) that the average person wouldn’t, or if they did, would feel embarrassed by”
I don't think you're wrong, but now think about how neurospicy, especially autistic peeps, have to function. When emotions are legit too strong to handle, so you have a physical reaction, like flapping your hands or dancing before getting your fav food. And we, as a society, shame people for it, cause it's cringe.
Being annoyed or mad at something cringe isn’t a big deal as long as you keep it to yourself. However, expressing your hate by making fun of them or worse, sending death/r@p3 threats to somebody just being themselves is the real "unforgivable cringe".
Beiing cringy is also not a big deal as long as you keep it to yourself. I, too, do cringy shit with my girlfriend but guess what? It ain't in the internet for everyone to see. They brought this upon themselves.
@@strawberrycrepesss you are welcoming everyone's response by posting on the internet it doesnt matter what that response is you are welcoming it. everyone wants to be on the internet but not everyone can handle it
Another weird fact about cringe. When it’s intentional we love it. Look at impractical jokes and things like that. It’s hard to watch but cracks me up and I love it.
Charlie is so right. Noticed that phenomenon too with many basically wholesome things being cringey and then people would go as hard as wishing death upon others. It's sad honestly.
As long as she's not somehow interrupting my meal by being too loud or like way to excited, then idgaf and no one should gaf if they are happy dancing when they get their food. Like bro, I'm going to do a happy dance if I want to, and you will not stop me from doing it. Lol
The people sending the death threats were probably single losers tbh. The video was cringy but also sweet if you've ever had moments like that with someone else.
@@bored_potatoThey’re not mad that she’s happy, they’re annoyed at how fake it is. There’s a difference. Obviously the ones sending threats are unhinged.
@Nezxmi I mean just cause they scripted it doesnt mean its fake. It could just mean they rehearsed that for a video but truly practice what they preach. People just dont like seeing other people happy when they themselves arent imo
It’s so shameful how the internet makes people completely lose their humanity. That couple didn’t deserve any of those disgusting comments but it’s such an issue for the world to just let people be happy even if they look goofy doing it
I vaguely remembered the Howard Dean scream, but I wanted a refresher, so I played it, and my cat literally got up and walked down his little cat stairs and left my bed. So it still works as a repellent to this day. I was laughing at it tho, I still think it’s funny. It’s goofy af, but I can’t believe it was enough to legit ruin him
Honestly when Charlie said that when someone makes us cringe we hold it against them forever, that makes sense to me. Think about it, what happens more randomly to you: remembering something that made you sad/upset, or something that made you cringe? I think with most emotions they often come and go, but cringe somehow sticks to us like a thorn in our brain
I rarely stay angry for more than an instant, a flash of indignation. Honestly I kinda wish I could hold onto to that feeling a bit longer if only to use it productively. On the other hand, I still cringe at my memories going back to fluffing kindergarten 😂
I think it's about the second hand embarrassment how you can never seem to forget embarrassing things that you did or happened to you even when its someone else the embarrassment still sticks.
What's interesting is that I bet if the lady doing the happy dance at the pancakes wasn't filming herself, but someone caught her doing it without the expectation of being recorded, the internet would have probably responded differently.
Yeah, that's because part of the cringe is the performative and (percived) insincere nature of it; she's acting like that to get attention. If she was doing it herself that would just be her expressing herself in a weird but harmless way.
@@Abhorrence353 i really wouldnt put it past some people (not saying she is doing it necessarily pls dont hate) to even upload the second video knowing people will hate watch and comment to get traction and more views.
I think we react to cringe so strongly because it's so relatable. when someone does something actually awful, there is more often a layer of disconnect (being that you have never been the victim or the abuser in a situation so it doesn't hit you as hard) Cringe, is within us all and no one likes to have that mirror forced in front of them by someone else. so we repeal from it like it's mustard gas. That's my theory at least
well said. i also think it's an instinct to repel something that's different. it's survival almost. back in the day we would probably sacrifice cringelords for disrupting the order. when someone does something horrible/cruel they hide it usually. deny it. etc. cringe just comes out in public.

The love surge was ok. They were being silly. Wow. So if you cry & are vulnerable, that’s a weakness? How terrible. Just a bunch of bullies sounds like.
I think the reason people seem more disgusted by cringe than actual crimes is because of projection. The things people hate the most about themselves are the same thing they’ll call out other people for doing, as a way to subconsciously distance themselves from it. Where as actual tragedies and terrible acts are discussed so often that they almost loose their meaning, or at least their impact
I think people just hate to see people be happy. That’s the common denominator in both videos, someone being happy, happy about pancakes, happy about being in love. People are fucking miserable and want to beat people down who aren’t as miserable and depressed as they are.

@@donaldwobamajr6550 This. Maybe people had to have been there at the time, but it should be remembered that Dean, who had been polling 1st in Iowa (and in the whole race) for months, lost momentum at the end and came in 3rd place in the final tally; then he gave the "scream" speech to his Iowa crowd, after a disappointing finish, which is why people felt it was bizarre-after all, why would you give "victory speech" energy when you came in lower than expected? (Though, looking into the situation, the reason he seemed "too energetic" was actually because the media microphones weren't picking up the crowd's volume that he was shouting over, thus making him seem like he was shouting over near-silence.) Anyway, he didn't lose the nomination over that scream, because he arguably already lost his chance with that third place finish; while there's an argument that the media's over-replaying of that scream cost him New Hampshire the next week, the writing was already on the wall that Dean was done and Kerry/Edwards were the new front-runners.
I was bullied growing up, and I always wondered if the bullies knew they were being the “bad guy” in the scenario. Like if you asked the people who write those awful comments to that poor girl if they are bullies, they’d probably say “no”. It’s odd how cruelty can just be considered ok in many people’s minds. They think they are being funny or that they aren’t really that bad, but they are completely wrong. Making fun of people who are doing no harm is cruel and can have life long impacts on the person you target. People need to grow up and be kind.
For the most part, bullies have villain logic. They either don't care about right and wrong, or they convince themselves that you committed a transgression by annoying them, possibly just by existing, so their bullying is retaliation. Some even think they're doing you a favor by helping toughen you up.
@@Haha_im_losing_my_mindsorry please explain if I misunderstood that but is it not bullying if they do that to everyone how I understood it the way you said was they are a prick to everyone I don’t get it
there is a serious problem with social media where we seem to forget we're interacting with real people. love surge lady is not just some embarrassing video, she is a real actual human being with thoughts and feelings. but social media has conditioned us to view other people as concepts, ideas, pure amusement. it's disgusting. so many people feel good about themselves after sending literal death threats to people because they've stopped actually viewing them as _people._ seeing her cry meant nothing to them because they're so desensitized to the emotions of others they just don't care.
I agree! Especially since nowadays people think that since their online they won’t be called out on in real life. This fuels them to keep bullying other people since the internet hides their identity (like what Penguinz0 said, it makes them feel their superior since they are anonymous.)
I'm actually glad that from 16-25 I actually had basically zero internet access. By the time I joined the online world I didn't get sucked into these nasty black holes of toxicity. 4chan for example - I completely missed that. MySpace, Twitter until the end stages, I just wasn't there haha
The “love surge” is a really sweet, adorable thing for them to share between the two of them. I would never share so much of the intimate little inside jokes I’ve formed while flirting.
I would not be caught sharing something like that on social media. I'm sorry, but it just looks like creepy new age shit. Like just feels wrong looking at it.
Yeah, I think people tend to forget that something can be a little cringy but also really harmless too. Sweet, even. It does come off a little as tiktok culture, but it made them happy. And when something "weird" makes people happy in private, then they shouldn't be judged for it.
Weird how somehow enjoying myself on the internet, depends more and more on how much I manage to ignore stuff on the internet... really eliminates the whole point of shutting off reality and being able to let go of everyday exhaustion... How does humanity continously manage to ruin every kind of respect I have for our species, even though I try to let in minimum information about stuff that makes me sad.
This is the first video on RUclips that I have watched in months my Internet went off July 13, 2023 and my Internet is nowAnd it’s Tuesday, October 17, 2023 it’s been the longest time I’m so glad I get to watch your videos again
It's just an hypothesis, but maybe the reason people despise what's cringe is somehow related to a strong response of disgust. One of the most common feeling about things we despise (like cockroaches) is extreme disgust, followed by an eerie desire to destroy what caused us that feeling.
I believe it. Look at all the angry people mad at happy people and how they try to snuff that happiness the other feels till they're just as angry and hateful as them 🤣
I feel like it has much to do with insecurity. We cringe more at what we know we've done or seen personally done in the past, i.e. doing something embarrassing on stage or otherwise in front of people you don't know. Natural human conformity combined with the anonimity of the internet can be a vile compound. Cringe is everywhere. It is the inevitable byproduct of sincerity. At least in that second video it is. In the first video, it was a slightly misguided attempt at making something relatable, and the second video was a purely innocent display of a very odd personal display of affection. Not the worst thing in the world, and somewhat embarrassing, yes, but ultimately, no one is hurt and no one is even inconvenienced. Nothing says you can't share weird love online as long as it's not explicit. I dunno. Tldr: I think people need to calm down and find some other hobby that makes them feel good. There are worse things online that are worth their ridicule and rage
I hope that last woman is okay. Its shitty how all that stemmed from pretty much harmless cringe, yet also not really surprising bc the Internet can be the shittiest place to people who dont deserve it
Well the Internet can both be anonymous and faster spreading then if something happened in real life, which affects the victim as well as allowing the person to say whatever they like with not that many reproductions
As a non-American person, I never saw the Howard Dean rally back in 2004, however this brought back good memories of the Dave Schapelle skit on this, bloody hilarious
This is something that genuinely makes me angry. Its also says something about the internet itself, and how much of a complete mess it really is. We have people like Dale Wilson getting away with so many stuff. Straight up doxxed people, and it was revealed that he dated a 17 year old girl when he was 29. Yet, he seems to be more popular than ever because of his memes. While completely ignoring how narcissistic he really is. Yet, people who are "cringe" at best are the ones that are practically canceled from existence. This kind of behavior is pretty disgusting to me.
It also reminds me of the sorbet incident. A lot of jerks form both Twitter and TikTok have harassed and doxxed the Japanese idol group into quitting social media entirely just because they thought they were cringe and attracting creeps. Hasanabi had also claimed that they were cringe, and even made fun of their idol group dances, accents, and stereotyping them as Korean. Meanwhile, the same TikTok community that harassed some idol group of girls who just wanted to have fun would be the same community who would fall in love/idolize with Devon Erickson, the 2018 Colorado school shooter. They made tons of edits and videos begging for his freedom, despite being a convicted felon. The fact that a homicidal maniac is cherished and loved, while 3 kindhearted idol girls get bullied into obscurity just shows how doomed we are as a society.
I think…you might be following the wrong people? I don’t follow anyone who idolizes ab*sers lolol that is a personal choice sir 😂 the circles you run in will support whatever narrative, you need to find the folks questioning that. Also Hasan might laugh at cringe but he’s critical of ab*sers, so you were confused when you used that comparison.

Regarding the second woman, I'll say that social media just hates happy relationships in general. A couple can post something as innocuous as watching a movie together and they'll still receive a wave of extreme hate
Some people are just so lonely and terminally online that the slightest sign of enjoying life is the greatest sin possible in their eyes
That's what I thought as well;
a lot of people on the Internet simply cannot stand anything that is the opposite of pure hate, so they get disgusted and offended by technically wholesome videos.

Very true
"I am cringe but I am free" is such a true statement. If I stumble across a cringey video, I just skip it and move on w my day. It's the people that leave hate comments / death threats who are the problem. Of course if you post anything on the internet you are subjected to backlash but nobody deserves that much hate for a silly video imo.
“I am cringe but I am free” saved me so much secondhand and firsthand embarrassment at totally normal or harmless things

I think she managed the first video badly, but it was not her fault entirely since she didn't think that video was something they needed to rehearse. The main problem seems to be her reaction after the surge, the little tap on his arm, the scratching on his head, the locked on eyes on the camera seemed almost like she didn't mean it and was looking for people to viralize her video. the thin line between cringe and cool is sincerity. if a different video of someone genuinely becoming happy for pancakes may go viral because its so natural and sincere. when someone creates a fake scenario and acts excited it becomes so cringe. It's the huge fake smile that makes it creepy-cringe to me. Psychopath behavior, idk.
Its the creating a weird and unnecessary scene in public that people hate. Same thing goes for these kids doing dancing videos in retail stores and acting like its their god given right

Yeah, that's because part of the cringe is the performative and (percived) insincere nature of it; she's acting like that to get attention. If she was doing it herself that would just be her expressing herself in a weird but harmless way.

The love surge reminded me of the hey baby girl I’ll see you tomorrow video from like 2016
I think we react to cringe so strongly because it's so relatable. when someone does something actually awful, there is more often a layer of disconnect (being that you have never been the victim or the abuser in a situation so it doesn't hit you as hard)
Cringe, is within us all and no one likes to have that mirror forced in front of them by someone else. so we repeal from it like it's mustard gas. That's my theory at least
Agreed, it's like second-hand embarassment. You feel for them, and being embarrassed is not an enjoyable feeling.
well said.
i also think it's an instinct to repel something that's different. it's survival almost. back in the day we would probably sacrifice cringelords for disrupting the order. when someone does something horrible/cruel they hide it usually. deny it. etc. cringe just comes out in public.
Glad those from r/iamverysmart made it here.

Dean losing his entire political career over that scream is still one of the most insane things ever. How has there not been a 2 hour Netflix doc on it yet?!?
"Please Clap"...it's not the first, it won't be the last. Beto's entire "Almost had a political career".
His campaign was already failing before the scream. That was just the final nail in the coffin.
@@justinlast2lastharder749this was basically Trump's entire 2015 GOP primary strategy. He made everyone else on stage look like cringe lords until he was the last one standing.
The Dean scream was covered in another vid by Penguinz0, I don't know the name of the original video, but you can find clips of it in searching.
Sorry to hear you were bullied :/ hope life is better now for you 👍🫡

there is a serious problem with social media where we seem to forget we're interacting with real people. love surge lady is not just some embarrassing video, she is a real actual human being with thoughts and feelings. but social media has conditioned us to view other people as concepts, ideas, pure amusement. it's disgusting. so many people feel good about themselves after sending literal death threats to people because they've stopped actually viewing them as _people._ seeing her cry meant nothing to them because they're so desensitized to the emotions of others they just don't care.
The internet made people into chronically online losers
Goes too far too easily indeed
I agree! Especially since nowadays people think that since their online they won’t be called out on in real life. This fuels them to keep bullying other people since the internet hides their identity (like what Penguinz0 said, it makes them feel their superior since they are anonymous.)
bruh how we know it wasnt all deep faked

I'm actually glad that from 16-25 I actually had basically zero internet access. By the time I joined the online world I didn't get sucked into these nasty black holes of toxicity. 4chan for example - I completely missed that. MySpace, Twitter until the end stages, I just wasn't there haha
The “love surge” is a really sweet, adorable thing for them to share between the two of them. I would never share so much of the intimate little inside jokes I’ve formed while flirting.
Yes. It is sad that they have now lost this special thing between them since it’s been tarnished by malicious people.
It's completely fine for them to enjoy that between them in privacy, it's not something you're supposed to share with others outside the relationship
I can already see the couple having a messy and public breakup through social media

Imagine being disgusted that someone harmlessly exaggerated their joy at having a tasty thing to eat.
Yes! That uncomfortable feeling of second-hand embarrassment is disgusting
Yeah the people who get really angry are insecure, but the people who find it cringe and move on are maybe having that disgust feeling
I hope that last woman is okay. Its shitty how all that stemmed from pretty much harmless cringe, yet also not really surprising bc the Internet can be the shittiest place to people who dont deserve it

@@NealCamerlengojust enabling people a bit more because they can hide behind the screen. That's what makes it a lil different. Other than that yeah

ANyone willing to do the love surge WILL NOT stand up to the hate online
