Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

My first time was 12 months ago having not heard of Nightwish or Floor until then. I watched and listened to the "The Poet and the Pendulum" live from Wembley 2015 and I was blown away having never heard anything like it before. Floors voice is like no other.

I am a Georgia boy, discovered Nightwish and Floor 3 years ago now. This band is so freaking talented, every single one of them, top of their crafts. Floor is the greatest, most powerful, and most versatile singer I have ever heard. Every song is different and a new story and journey. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal and Nightwish. Her name is Floor Jansen(Yan-sen), she is Dutch, and the 3rd and current female lead singer. She had only been with the band about 10 months here, having taken over mid tour. The band is from Finland ,formed in 1996. The founder and band mastermind is the keyboard player, Tuomas Holopainen. He writes 90-95% of the songs. The orchestral backing track was recorded with the London Philharmonic. Those pipes are just stage decoration, behind them are 3 Korg keyboards, ...and a wine rack.
Wacken (Vah-ken) is a town in Northern Germany. Wacken Open Air has held a multi day metal festival every year since 1990 (minus pandemic years). Nightwish headlined here in 2013, in front of 82,000 fans. The artist on stage before them? -- Alice Cooper.

Originally Floor was sent by Allfather Odhinn to Midgard to gather the souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla, but she
got distracted and joined a series of bands. However, Floor still gathers souls by her grace, beauty and the sheer power
of her vocals.
We give thanks for her at our Blots regularly and hope that Odhinn won't notice that she has never returned to Asgard.

Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora.
Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy.
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6).
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the setlist in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.

Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish)
Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot.
This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people. The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival.

Welcome to our obsession. Greetings from Canada. In 2021 because of COVID restrictions, Nightwish did 2 full length live Virtual concerts with over 150,000 paid viewers from at least 108 countries. The fan base is world wide. Most will say Nightwish is best live, but their music videos are very good also.
You don't know this band because of the corporations that run the music industry here in the USA that decided what music we should like and usually bad for the last 20 years. Nightwish has been around since 1996 from Finland, tuomas holopainen the keyboard player not on a organ, composed the music for this group and it just gets better God bless

Yup, American Corporate radio keeps a lot great music hidden from people because to them it more important to push the same crapola that has made them some money before. Never mind if people can sing or not or if it's the same thing over and over. Nightwish is all about the music, they always have been, and the word you were searching for ""put together" it is composed. Nightwish has a composer, not a song writer. The best things about them: they have been making music for over 20 years so the catalogue is huge, all the songs are different and they are all good they don't do fillers. Best thing: they are better live than in the studio. This is from the Wacken (pronounce Vah-ken A as in father) concert and the whole concert is pure gold, not a bad note in it. this is melodic, but a song like Romanticide will show you a whole different vibe. The most amazing thing about this song is that the live performance is nearly flawless, and Floor Jansen was on her first tour with Nightwish as their lead singer. My wife was not a fan of metal until she listened to Nightwish, which is really a genre called "symphonic metal". The musical arrangements and changeups from this band are stunning, and every band member is at the top of their game.

It is called Ghost Love SCORE for a reason. It has musical movements that change in dramatic impact as it goes along, like a movie score where the music changes to match what is happening on the screen.
So glad you decided to go with this and enjoyed it. Floor happens to be my favorite female singer of all time. Keep up the good work.

I've been watching Nightwish reaction videos for probably 4 years, and I feel confident you are the geographically closest reactor that I've ever watched. I live in Cabot and work at the fine establishment that is on your hat. Anyway, welcome to the amazing world of Nightwish! Their musical ability and Floor's voice are enough to earn the respect of someone, but as you listen to their songs and understand the deep feelings that Toumas puts in the music and lyrics, that's when you fall in love with the band. If you have a mood or emotion, chances are they have a song to fit it. They don't play the same song with different words over and over, most of their songs are quite different from each other, so if one doesn't grab you chances are there is another that will. Best wishes on this journey of yours. I've suscribed and will be along for the ride!

She sounds like Floor Jansen...in other words there is not another female vocalist on the planet that can compare to her.
I think the clue about how complex the music is going to be is the word "Score" in the title "Ghost Love Score" (but everyone seems to be surprised about this). Like any "classical score" there are "movements" within it, each having linked but separate themes. This song is a perfect example of brilliant musical story-telling.

The pipe organ like structure is a keyboard stand designed to look like the Sibelius monument in Helsinki, Finland. Jean Sibelius was a famous classical composer from Finland and a big inspiration for the band's songwriter Tuomas Holopainen. The reason we Americans haven't heard of Nightwsih is that our music industry is so provincial that they don't let in music from outside the US. Thank god for YT. I have discovered a whole world of music that is thoughtful, complex, emotionally charged, and sometimes challenges your beliefs and makes you look at the world in a new way. Some other bands to checkout include Epica, Blackbriar, Within Temptation, Delain, Xandria, Ayreon, and so many others. Evanescence is still around and just finished a European Tour with Within Temptation (who did a North American tour over the summer/fall with Iron Maiden).
The fact that you have 700+ subscribers and this video has 15K views should tell you a lot about how popular Nightwish is on the Internet. Keep doing great content and you'll keep growing!
"They are not even from the US" 😊 There is a lot of great music from outside the US, believe me. This band consists of only top notch musicians, and Floor Jansen is a vocal Goddess. What you hear in this song is just a small percentage of what she can do with her voice and vocal abilities.

Glad you have been put on the Nightwish path. Floor Jansen is their third and for many best singer. At just over 6ft she can sing in any style from operatic to metal growls. This is song 13 out of 15 at this concert in front of 82,000 in Germany. By the way it went out of sync probably when you edited out the advert so it looked like you had quit the song before the end. Something that is best avoided with Nightwish 'til the very end.

LOL, sorry, I'm a bit protective of the organ... back in the early 80's I was a tech for Rodgers Organ (pipe organs), and you certainly will hear a (sampled) pipe organ on Nightwish's version of Phantom of the Opera (Live 2005, End of an Era concert, the last concert w/their first singer Tarja.
Oh yeah, and that video will also teach you that Opera belongs in Metal, big time.
So anyway, back to Nightwish.
It's a deep rabbit hole, With room for pretty much any-and-everyone.
And if you stick with it long enough, you'll find offshoots that's take you to 20, 30, 50 or more amazing European Metal bands, in a dizzying array of styles.

About the "organ" it is decoration to hide his triple Korg keyboards. Nightwish is finnish
Tuomas the keyboard Player once said it was a Tribute to the Finnish violist and composer Jan Sibelius and to his monument in the finnish capital Helsinki, 600+ decorated steel pipes .

Nightwish has been around for a good long while now, Tuomas is a brilliant man composing the songs & their keyboard player.
I suggest you react to Shoemaker too. Take the original video clip, with his name and the planets. That way you can read along and truly feel the song after reading my explanation here:
It tells you the tale of Eugene Shoemaker an astro-geologist (who basically was the founder of the study) , who together with his ife spend his life dedicated to looking for comets, tracking them and studying craters (ultimately he proved the theory that a comet wiped out the dinosaurs & had a comet named after him).
He also had a dream to become an astronaut.
Sadly, he could never be one and go up there, due to a physical problem (Addison's disease, I believe) he had, but he helped train those at NASA.
He has been quoted saying:
"The biggest disappointment of his life/carreer was not being able to go to the moon and bang on it with his little rockhammer."
He unfortunately, at the age of 69, died in a car-accident and as a last tribute they send his ashes to the moon.
On the Urn are a picture of the crater of his proving the theory & and inscription of the poem of Shakespeare. Now you know the story of how we came to be. LAUDATO SI AD ADSTRA; Praise be to the stars!
